Horrible experience, they started off friendly and disarming but after you were committed to using their service and were too far in to turn around and use someone else or back out without paying, they effectively stole several hundred dollars by changing prices and scamming. I would not recommend this the magic needle to anybody. the couple of times I had gone here, I encountered that they were extremely busy and hardly had enough time for me. And it seemed the busier they were the more expensive they were. Overpriced and very low standards. they took a coat of mine in and used the wrong color thread. My experience with Magic Needle for bridal alterations was negative overall. If you choose Magic Needle, I recommend getting a firm delivery date in writing during drop-off, as well as an itemized receipt at pickup. Bring along an objective third party to the pickup to help scrutinize the garment, on and off, for as long as needed, before taking possession of it. In summary, the dress was several inches too long, the lace on the dress and the veil was sewn on bunched, folded, and crooked, the lace was not placed on the dress as we had discussed at the fitting, the comb was sewn into the veil in the wrong place, and the dress was full of dog hairs. The positive in this experience was a one-button bustle that was easy to use and a well-placed piece of decorative lace sewn onto the bust. Details follow below. I brought my wedding dress in for alterations (6 weeks before the event) and had a veil made (I dropped off the materials 2 weeks before the event). I asked for the dress to be hemmed, the bodice taken in, and the veil constructed. It was agreed that the veil would not affect the timing on the completion of the alterations. At 2 weeks before the event, alterations on the dress had not yet been started. The dress was scheduled to be finished in the week prior to the wedding, but it was not finished until the week of the wedding, 4 days before. I paid $760 for the dress and veil alterations. When I went to pick up the dress, I knew something was wrong but I couldn't articulate all the points. It was only after a detailed review at home that I was able to figure out the issues. I did not contact her prior to the event to fix the issues I had found because I was not certain that the fixes would have been completed satisfactorily in the two nights between pickup and leaving for the wedding, based on the issues with workmanship. When I brought the dress home, I found the skirt was full of dog hairs (when I brought this up later, she said it didn't matter because I had accepted the dress). I made her aware right away at my first fitting that I was very allergic and I couldn't be anywhere near the dog. She vacuumed the room but then let the dog walk around in it afterwards. The dog also followed me into the changing room and later stepped on my dress and left a mark (he had just been walking outside and had wet paws). The mark was identified and she did clean the spot. The dress was hemmed several inches too long so that it dragged on the ground and I spent the wedding and the reception stepping on it. Where the lace was sewn onto the bottom of the dress, the tulle was bunched under the lace on the whole right side of the dress. I had to take the lace off of the front and side sections of the dress and resew it, and I found that there were 8 extra inches of the tulle skirt bunched under the lace. The points of the lace were also sewn on crooked. When I mentioned these at my final fitting, she said the tulle would steam flat (it did not) and that the point had to be sewn on crooked so that it didn't hit another piece of lace (it did not, I removed and straightened it without it touching any other lace). Additionally, the lace was placed differently from what we discussed at the last fitting. The comb on the veil was sewn on to the top of the veil off center. This would have been simple to fix, except that a long triangle of the material had been cut out to make it more rounded on the head. I had to cut open that stitching and sew in a scrap of material to make it whole again. She admitted that the veil was done wrong and I received a $100 partial refund on the $280 charged for the veil (this is the cost of the labor only, not the materials). I spent the last two nights before my wedding fixing the dress and veil. When I informed the owner of the problems with my dress and my veil, she said she needed to see them, so I drove an hour to the shop. When I got there, she said that because I took the dress, it was legally binding and I couldn't do anything about it. read more

My designer of my bridesmaid dress recommended The Magic Needle and I was a bit worried by the appearance outside but I placed my faith and I am so glad I did. The seamstress (whose name I did not catch) literally maybe be a sorceress. My dress was too small by like 1 inch around my hips and she was able to rip out the seams and the zipper and add in fabric that is the exact fabric of the dress and then sew back in brand new seams. It fits like a glove and I literally can't tell the difference between the original machine work and what she did. I would whole heartedly recommend this store for any alterations. Also, she did all of this in TWO WEEKS! I couldn't believe that she took me as a client with a month turn around, but getting it done two weeks earlier than projected was amazing. read more

Extremely disappointed in the professionalism displayed at this business. I called 4-5 days ago to ask for an appointment for a dress fitting, I was told no appointment necessary, to come in whenever worked during their business hours. I called this afternoon to make sure they had availability to take me today and was told by an extremely unhelpful teenager that they were too busy this week to take me for a fitting. I asked if there would be availability next week, she told me she wasn't sure and told me that I was not allowed to make an appointment being that it is for a bridesmaid dress. She told me to try to come in next week, and when I asked how I was supposed to know if they were too busy or not take me, she said she wasn't sure and again denied me an appointment for a time when the seamstress would be able to accommodate me. She then placed me on the phone with the seamstress, who before I could even explain fully my situation and what I was asking for (by no means demanding an appointment today or even in the next few days), began screaming at me on the phone that she "COULD NOT PHYSICALLY TAKE ANY MORE PEOPLE" and that she would be having to work 12 hours over the weekend to get caught up at which point she may be able to take more clients. When I tried to explain to her that I was only asking for an actual appointment to ensure seamstress availability and a time which would fit into my atypical work hours, she just continued to yell shrilly into the phone about how stressed and behind she was and how much anxiety she had. When I tried to explain, as calmly as I could under current circumstances, that her tone was unprofessional and unappreciated by a potentially paying customer, she became even more unreasonable telling me that any further clients she would take would be "first come, first serve" (apparently completely disregarding I was ONTHE PHONE ASKING HER TO ACCEPT MY BUSINESS), and at which point I had to hang up. Clearly this woman has no regard for time management, is over booking herself to the point of hysteria which I am sure is going to lead to some pretty stellar seamstress work. After my interaction with her, I would advise anyone looking for seamstress work in this area to look elsewhere. read more

I paid quite a bit of money to have my dress hemmed and taken in a little in the chest. The chest was fine, dress fit great. However, the bottom of my dress was completely frayed in a matter of minutes and I was NOT the least bit happy. It was so disappointing for the price and after all of the good things that I have heard. read more

I took a knitted Christmas stocking to be embroidered with a grand child's name. The beginning letter should have been a capital letter I. Because it looked like an L I asked for it to be corrected. They refused saying this was the default font. I explained that I had asked for block lettering but they never showed me the alphabet. The woman yelled and said she is "not a robot" and that she should not even have this business open. She then yelled some more when I politely said this was not good customer service and then she said she would try to make it look like a capital letter I for $20 plus a $35 rush charge because it was close to the holiday. I had already paid $20 to have the name embroidered. I should have known better when I first saw the business as it was messy and appeared dirty. Stay away from this place at all cost. read more

Dishonesty, lack of skill and most importantly lack of caring can be the pitfall of any business. Unfortunately that was my experience with The Magic Needle. I went there to have a vest made for my wedding. I went in with the fabric and buttons needed to have my vest crafted. I had the suit pants with me for fitting. When I went in I was told I didn't need my suit pants and that my jeans would be fine. That seemed a little funny to me and was probably a product of her trying to usher me in and out without properly attending to the needs of the situation. My measurements were taken and I was quoted for $85. The buttons I had purchased weren't up to her liking so she said she'd get me better buttons and that she'd have to charge me for them. I said okay no problem. I was amazed to find when I arrived that the buttons were and additional $25 dollars. I tried on my vest and noticed that it did not cover my shirt in full, it was too short. I made note of that, paid for my "$25 higher than quote vest" and went home. Several weeks later I tried on the vest with my suit and found the same issue, the vest was too short. It should be noted that upon initial fitting, she tried to tell me that short vests were the way they were worn, which is completely false. It had been weeks since I paid for my vest and tried it on, when I called back, she immediately got defensive and aggressive, yelling at me why did I wait weeks, as if my vest had some sort of expiration date on it. She tried placing full blame on me, when I was calling just to see what could be done. After her harassing me for a full two minutes, she said I would have to pay to have it altered, yes I would have to pay to have their mistakes fixed. I told her I did not want to deal with her any more. Very unfortunate occurrence. Needless to say, I would not recommend the Magic Needle to anyone. read more
