This is a beautiful cafe we stopped in for breakfast. The room is very well appointed and very inviting. Service was a bit spotty though. Although not very busy our Cappuccino and Cafe au Lait took over 5 minutes and it was the same waiting to order. While we weren't in a hurry, it was a little too relaxed. Pretty, historic building. Pretty mediocre food although the service was very good. My girlfriends and I thought we'd try this restaurant in the hotel's lobby, and it was disappointing. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich, which was, surprisingly, a chicken SALAD sandwich. I'd envisioned a piece of chicken (which they said was "roasted") with the mentioned Dijon mustard and pickled onions and a side of slaw. Instead, the chicken was cut into chunks and smothered (And I do mean smothered.) in, what I presume was the endive slaw and Dijon mustard plus the pickled onions. Overpowering. This was served with a side of endive with vinegar dressing. The sandwich bread was delicious, though. They should change this item to "Chicken Salad Sandwich" instead of using "Chicken Sandwich." My friends ordered the breakfast sandwich with eggs and bacon and a slice of the quiche, which they said were okay. These three lunches plus a small Coke and iced tea (I had water.) set us back $90.00 with the tip. Way overpriced for the food. read more

Came here during Storm Fern as it was one of the only places open with the snow. We had a great breakfast, both of us got the egg plate. Bacon was very crispy. While in Hudson, one morning I stopped at Makers Cafe for breakfast. The ambiance was old world clubby but welcoming. But a hungry traveler would be advised to avoid the ricotta open faced sandwich. Or order two of them. Topped with the freshest of cheese, almonds, figs and local honey-what other type would be permitted?-the sandwich whets your appetite but leaves you unsated.  At $18, I label this sandwich A Tease.  The cappuccino sidekick was good. But- no heart in my foam? Big city prices for such a small town; although The Maker has established itself as the chic place for a meal. My friend and I have eaten brunch here a few times over the last couple of years and the food is reliably decent. This visit I had a really tasty $19 green goddess chickpea wrap that seemed elevated and flavorful (not merely mashed chickpeas in a wrap) with a portion too large for me to finish and the other 1/2 tasted great (not watery) the next day. My friend was pleased with her 3-cheese grilled cheese sandwich although nothing exceptional for a $21 sandwich. We like the decor, the coffee is fine, the service is lack luster and while it's good in Hudson, this would be sub-par in a bigger city. On a rainy Friday around 1:30, as we sat eating a couple came in for a coffee & pastry and was informed that the baked goods were sold out. If you are planning to stop by for a croissant or snack, call ahead to be sure they have some available. read more

Oooo definitely a lovely upscale ambiance with dimmed, cozy, middle eastern/Mediterranean vibe inside. Cute comfortable seating and prime windows for people watching! We stopped in for a coffee and pastry so cannot speak to the whole menu but our pastries were next level (though definitely pricey). The jam donut we shared @ The Maker might go down in history as one of my favorite donuts and the croissant was pretty fresh tasting as well. Matcha was very earthy and chai latte was not too sweet. Overpriced with terrible service - hotel restaurant. It was one of 3 open places in the town for Monday lunch, according to Yelp and driving around. I gave a $12 tip because the price of 1 sandwich and 1 salad and a couple of coffees was $60. I used to wait tables at Union Square in New York, so I was trying to tip 20%. They told me they will bring the food outside. We waited for over 30 minutes. For a sandwich. And a salad. Finally, they gave a lot of attitude, and gave it in to-go boxes at the counter. The sandwich was meant to be shared, but was enough for 1 person. The food tasted fine. So we sat outside with the wind blowing our coffee cups away. Then people walking by were also uptight and rude that our coffee cup flew off the table to the sidewalk next to the table. We asked the server where she was from, and she said she couldn't tell us. A strange town that thinks it's SoHo in the middle of nowhere. Too bad, the decor is cute and retro. If you are there on a Monday, there are some other restaurants open away from the river, and a deli towards the river. read more

Two stars mostly because of the ambiance. The maker cafe is beautifully decorated with great Hudson River vintage vibes. That was the only redeeming thing. The food was so overpriced we honestly actually laughed when it was delivered. We ordered a soup, salad, chips and grilled cheese sandwich and our bill was $90 with tip. None of it was good. The grilled cheese was honestly terrible. Tiny and over cooked. What a wild place. The first night we went solely for after dinner drinks in the lounge. The bartenders are very talented and the signature cocktails are amazing. We returned the next night prior to dinner just to try some more of their drinks. We then ate dinner outside on the patio. Everything was delicious. We started with a cold asparagus appetizer, and we each had a homemade pasta dish. The mushroom pasta and the the white lamb ragu. Both were great. We happened upon this place while searching for a place to grab breakfast. They don't serve a breakfast breakfast (it's mostly pastries, muffins, tea, coffee and breakfast sandwiches.) We decided that wasn't what we wanted and started to leave. Just as we were about to, the manager happened to be walking by (knowing nothing about our wavering) and was so chipper, telling us, "you've got to try the ham, egg and cheese sandwich. It's to die for.) His friendly disposition and hype of the breakfast item was enough to make us stay. And he was right, it was delicious. But it's more than that. The cafe, which is part of the hotel there) is just adorable. It's part coffee house (people were there with laptops and books) and part the kind of place friends meet up to grab a light bite and delicious coffee and baked goods, which are made fresh daily nearby. Lunch for two, New Year's Day. The inviting ambiance, design and mood is so delicious here. Big windows, mirrored walls, low tables and chairs, dark wood accents, vintage details and pretty floor tiles. The idea of this place is a tribute to the best European coffeehouses ... and they do it well. They have a to-go counter in addition to the sit down option with fewer menu and drink varieties. We ordered the roast beef sandwich, beet and gin cured lox sandwich, mimosa, wine and the Oaxacan hot chocolate. And a chocolate chip cookie to-go. All were SPECTACULAR. I seriously cannot wait to go back for dinner or to get drinks or stay at the hotel when life is normal again. 100% recommend! read more

Really great place if you're looking for good food and a pretty ambiance that feels like from another era. We had a delicious breakfast on our last day in Hudson and they were accommodating with the 2 babies we had with us. I had a flat white, ham and cheese croissant, and a chicken veg soup, all of which were delicious! Everything hit the spot for me~~ There is only one big bathroom in the space with no changing table, but there was a credenza in the bathroom that we were told we could use as a makeshift one, which was fine. read more

We came to the cafe a couple of times in the spring when we were visiting Hudson. Loved the ambience, feels like a lounge from a different century. Both of the times we came for coffee and a croissant early in the morning. The pistachio croissant is by far the best croissant I ever had, which is solely the reason why we came again the following morning. It will be my first stop if I am to return to Hudson. Walking around Warren street we stumbled upon The Maker Cafe. Walking in it is adorable. They have a beautiful seating area and a lovely pastry counter that holds so many delicious morsels (I wanted everything). But let's get to the best part - the food. Given that it was early we didn't want to eat too much so that we wouldn't spoil our lunch. I ordered the yogurt parfait with citrus marmalade and Jeffrey ordered ham, egg and cheese sandwich. I also ordered white peony loose leaf tea and coffee for him. The yogurt came with granola. It was delicious, but how can you mess up anything with a large amount of citrus marmalade?! LOL. His breakfast sandwich looked delicious. It had a fried egg on it that of course got a little messy. Amazing! Pretty good little quick bite spot. I was watching other dishes come out and I think we ordered the wrong items. The other items coming out of the kitchen looked so much nicer than ours! I was jealous! LOL. I'm traveling and dropped in for what I hoped was a cup of coffee and a little time to sit and plan my day. The coffee, although insanely overpriced, was fine. However, the absolutely indifferent attitude of every single person behind the counter was a serious turnoff. I'm a writer, and I like to write in coffee shops. I've been in hundreds of them, all over the world. I hate places like this. Hudson isn't Paris, and this place isn't The French Laundry. Nobody said "hello", nobody smiled, nobody gave a shit about me or my experience, obviously. This place had the warmth of an airport ticket counter. To make sure I truly understood how unimportant I was, the young woman behind the counter, who I'd describe as "sullen" handed me my latte in a to-go cup. Here's your coffee, pal, now get out of our nice place. There was road work being done on the street outside, with lots of noise -- jackhammering, cutting concrete, and so on. To attempt to punch through her crust -- and this women was young enough to be my daughter -- I casually said, "Hey, what are they doing outside?" She looked at me for a moment, then with zero expression of interest, said, flatly, "They don't tell us." Then went back to what she was doing. Got it. Never going back. Walked down the street to a small place, Supernatural Coffee, which was great. Go there instead. read more

While in town we had heard we had to try this place for breakfast. They had a decent breakfast menu, fairly small and to the point. Prices were a bit high but I also get it's a bougee hotel cafe. I ordered a cappuccino and my partner ordered a flat white. You would not have been able to tell the difference between either as they both looked and tasted exactly the same. I personally think a cappuccino should at least always have a little sprinkle of cinnamon on top just to set it apart. I also ordered the breakfast sandwich with sausage, in which it came on brioche...I wish I could shout from the roof tops, STOP putting breakfast sandwiches on brioche buns. It might seem fancy but it's too much bread, and don't get me wrong, I LOVE bread, but when I wanna taste the cheese and maple sausage but all I taste is bland bread, it just doesn't do it any justice. My partner got the avocado toast which was very good and exactly how avocado toast should come. The thick bread is necessary with that dish so bravo on that. This is the more casual café up front, with entrance on and windows facing Warren Street, not the ultra-luxe lounge/bar (3d Street entrance) that has folks swooning. This place has small café tables with table service -- or order coffee and a baked good to go at the counter. It is open 8 am to 4 pm daily serving baked goods, coffee drinks and sandwiches/salads for those who are happy to dine on $17 sandwiches in a to-the-manor-born environment and avoid rubbing elbows with the local color at oh, Cascades. There is dark wood and cozy chairs, all comfy and sedate with dim lighting. I dropped in for a late lunch mid-week and had the corned beef sandwich, which is actually a reuben, served half warm/half cold with gristle and uber-fat. Arrived on a plate with . . . nothing else. I asked for a pickle and chips (hey! Cascades does that!). I got a couple very thin spears of pickle and salt and vinegar house-made chips for a cool $4.50 that were greasy. $28 for a weekday lunch is high priced for moi, especially when it wasn't outstanding. A think this would be a nice recharge spot for coffee and a cookie mid-day if you're happy to sit in the dark. And pretend you're a Euro-tourist with a hefty trust fund. This was our first stop on our day trip to Hudson. It's super cute on the inside, it looks like a boutique. They also have outdoor seating. It was a bit busy when we arrived so we had to wait for 30 minutes for a table but it was nice they they called us when it was ready. Once we sat, we were served waters but it was unclear if we were supposed to order at the counter or wait for a server. After waiting for a while I decided to order at the counter. We ordered the hot chicken sandwich and the mozzarella sandwich. I asked if there was any nuts in the mozzarella sandwich because it said there was a pesto on it, which the barista said no, it is just a kale pesto. Immediately after my wife had a allergic reaction. This was a very unfortunate situation, I'm glad I got her help immediately. If it wasn't for that happening I think this place should be rated 4/4.5 stars . The chicken sandwich was great! If you're visiting the Hudson area, make this part of your stop. I stopped in for lunch and was really happy with the food! I tried both the (i) fried chicken sandwich and (ii) the quesadilla. The Fried Chicken Sandwich is a premium sandwich - higher quality and more fulfilling than the chicken sandwich you'd get at a place like Popeyes or Wendy's. The Maker Cafe also adds a great chili honey which gives the food a nice taste. The quesadilla was so flavorful and tasty. there is no doubt that the maker is well appointed and managed, the staff attentive. the drinks are presented at the begin of the menu, and for good reason as they are well made and delicious . rather expensive and measured to the ounce. now to the food , several specials were offered and it made for a difficult task to order, as they all sounded wonderful. 2 specials, 2 menu items were ordered. 1 Salmon , 3 pasta. the pasta specials were noteable, the other 2 were only acceptable, this is I feel a gathering place for a good drinks and conversation. not so sure about a exceptional meal. I had lunch at the Maker Cafe in Hudson today. I have been there many times because they make great cappuccino. However, today, our server, after bringing our drinks seemed to totally forget us. After 20 minutes we had to inquire about our food order. It must have been ready because after being reminded it was served immediately. Then when we asked for the check the wait staff brought the check and left all our dirty dishes on the table. The Maker has very good food but the service both at table and at the take out counter leaves a lot to be desired. I am a local and if I have the opportunity to eat elsewhere ( as it was Monday, there was little choice) I will definitely pick somewhere else for lunch. read more

We ate here a couple times while staying in Hudson, and overall enjoyed our meals. The lox sandwich is delicious, and the Cobb salad was also quite good with fresh produce, flavorful tuna salad, and a nice vinaigrette. The grilled cheese on the other hand was overly greasy and just okay. The pastries, while not exceptional, are nonetheless tasty. While the food is generally good, I found the sandwiches to be somewhat overpriced. They are relatively small in size and don't come with any sides; my wife and I were both still hungry after finishing our sandwiches. The staff is also a mixed bag. On our first visit, our waitress was great: friendly, attentive, and helpful. The following day, the surly and unhelpful woman who served us made for a less enjoyable experience. read more
