great location in the city center - and I would even say for London at a fairly reasonable price for the standard they offer. Rooms are big enough, nice bed with good (!) Pillows which is in my opinion not a given any more. I had a room on the first floor and at first was worried that I might hear the noise from the street all night but nope - all quiet and peaceful in the alley below. on the downside - the AC is very loud, the windows seemed to have received a paint job recently - and I wasn't able to close them. someone from facility management had to take care of it. read more

On August 30, I experienced what appeared to be discriminatory, misogynistic, and racially biased treatment from a front-desk staff member named Omar during check-in. After a significantly delayed flight, my partner and I did not arrive at the hotel until approximately 5:00 AM. We were traveling with all of our luggage and had booked the room beginning the previous night specifically so that we would be able to check in upon our late arrival. When I approached Omar and explained that I was checking in, he immediately responded that check-in was not until 3:00 PM. I explained that we had booked the room for the previous night. When my partner, who is a white man, arrived at the desk and repeated essentially the same information, Omar proceeded to assist him with the check-in. What happened next made the interaction even more concerning. After providing my partner with the room keys, Omar asked me whether I was with him. I had been the person who initially approached the desk and attempted to check us in, yet I was effectively disregarded until my partner intervened. I then asked whether a room with two beds was available. Omar stated that this was not what we had booked. Rather than continue an already uncomfortable interaction, I told him to forget about the request. I subsequently asked Omar for a late checkout. He told me that I would have to wait for the manager. My partner then asked for the same late checkout, and Omar/amar/umar (don't know how to spell his name) granted the request to him. The contrast in treatment was noticeable enough that my partner independently asked me why the front-desk employee seemed to have an issue with me and why he was being accommodating toward him while being unnecessarily rude and dismissive toward me. To summarize, I made reasonable requests related to our reservation and was repeatedly met with resistance or dismissal. My white male partner made the same or substantially similar requests and was accommodated. This occurred without any provocation or inappropriate behavior on my part. I understand that individual requests may be subject to hotel policy and availability. My complaint is not simply that a particular request was initially denied. It is that the same staff member treated two guests associated with the same reservation materially differently within the same interaction, with my partner receiving assistance and accommodations immediately after I was dismissed or denied. The disparate treatment was obvious enough that my partner noticed and commented on it without prompting. Given the pattern of the interaction, get the manager for proper assistance especially towards women and/or POC.. read more

We are in London once a year and each time our choice is The Mandeville Hotel. The service, location and rooms feel like coming home each time we stay. The staff at the hotel are always kind, efficient, and engaging. The Executive Double rooms overlooking the college and quaint high street are our favorite. On our last visit we were surprised to be upgraded to the Terrace Suite. WOW and Thank You! What an amazing and unique room...definitely a splurge-worthy treat. The breakfast buffet is great way to start the day and a cocktail in the lounge is a great way to end the evening. Located in the picture perfect neighborhood of Marylebone, everything we need is either a pleasant walk or a convenient tube ride away. Next year we'll be back! We wouldn't miss it. read more

We stayed here because of the location. It's in the ideal spot!! But to be honest, for $300 a night, it wasn't that worth it. Especially now, you can find better deals in the same area if not better. The walls are paper thin. Rooms are extremely hot and temp can't be controlled. I know it's the UK, but the rooms are tiny. We couldn't even open our suitcases at the same time. Breakfast wasn't included and we couldn't go downstairs to the bar because there was a private event booked each night. The TV didn't have good selections for those struggling with jet lag. Water pressure wasn't good either. The elevators are extremely small so if you have multiple bags, you'll have to make multiple trips. read more

Except they offer an affordable room to me as single tiny room, I didn't see any other good qualities for this place. One thing special was they provide a cell phone so you could use it to make calls, google map etc. however, the phone wasn't user friendly so I end up didn't use it at all. read more

A friend and I were bought a gift for afternoon tea here. I called to book a few weeks ago, clearly stating I could not have milk, cheese, cream or yoghurt due to a dairy intolerance but was fine with butter. I have been to quite a few other afternoon teas in London (including The Ritz and Pret-a-Portea at The Berkeley) and this was the worst I have been to for catering for people with dietary needs. At seating, I clearly stated again that I could eat butter. What usually happens at this point is that a member of staff checks with the chef what I can eat and what they can amend and go through the menu with me. But oh no, this did not happen here. I was brought out 4 bone dry sandwiches of just ham and salmon. I hear you say "Dry, but surely they buttered the bread?!" Alas, this was not the case, not even a squeeze of lemon juice or pepper on the salmon. "You must have cakes and scones at least though?" Nope. Fruits. Fruit shot, fruit skewer, and some figs. With a few weeks notice they could have least had the decency to prepare something suitable in advance - even just the meringue without the cream! Ah, but that would have involved too much common sense. Afternoon Tea with sandwiches a 5 year old could have made and no baked goods. Not my idea of culinary heaven. We stayed at the Mandeville because of a pretty good deal found on Travelzoo. At the end of my vacation, I realized it was a good location for a first day in London, because it was safe, and very close to the metro, and lots of shopping and touristy stuff. We signed up for a bus tour where they allow you to hop on and off, and one of the jump on locations was at the arch, which was about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. The room was pretty small with one double bed. They had asked us if we wanted to upgrade...for 30 more pounds. Uh, I don't think so. The front desk was nice, the bell people were helpful and the room was quiet. Overall, it was a nice hotel, but we missed out on our included breakfast since we had an early train to catch. read more

This hotel was fantastic!! Definitely my new favorite place to stay when visiting London. I have stayed in other very good hotels in the Marylebone area as well as in Knightsbridge which is even more posh than this area, but the Mandeville had all the elements of a successful stay for me in order to earn these 5 stars whereas the others I'd say are a 4 at best. -Absolutely gorgeous boutique hotel decor: though the room I stayed in was small, it was tastefully decorated, yet bright and cheerful. It was spotless and well kept with clever use of the small space. Toiletries in the bathroom were top notch (Etro). Yes I had a single (twin) bed, but if you need more room I have the perfect remedy: pay more. -Excellent service: From the moment my black cab pulled up, until they saw me off early in the morning a few days later, the doormen, front desk staff, concierges and housekeeping all took very attentive care of me. The doormen would not let me haul my own bags except on my insistence. The concierge was great in arranging my car service to the airport. They offered also to help me with dining selection, but hey - I have Yelp for that :) I cannot speak on the food here as I ventured out morning, noon and night to eat elsewhere - London has too many options to be relegated to the hotel unless there are rave reviews within. From what I can see, all the poor reviews of this hotel were for the restaurant and everyone that had a actually stay seemed to be as pleased as I am. Looking forward to staying here on my next visit to London unless the Royal Family asks me to stay with them instead! read more

Stayed here for 3 nights. It really is an excellent location with lots of bars and restaurants nearby and within 2 minutes walk of oxford st. The service on the front desk was very professional and the deluxe room was of a high standard and a reasonable size for the centre of London. There was a queen bed, a desk and 2 comfy chairs. The bathroom was large with both a shower and a bath with shower over. Everything was clean and I always appreciate a nespresso machine in the room! So why only 3 stars? I found it difficult to sleep because of the traffic noise - a double glazing upgrade seems to be needed. The bed was also far too soft for my taste so unfortunately I didn't sleep well here. If you are a heavy sleeper who likes soft beds then you might rate it higher! read more

Had a brief stay to rest while travelling. Nice room, decent service except that in the afternoon, a man knocked on the door and offered 'room service', although we hadn't ordered anything. It didn't seem like he was delivering a specific order and just had the wrong room, because he asked if we wanted any water or any cake, almost like he was trying to upsell us to spend more money with the hotel. Then after I said no, he went to the room next door and seemed to make the same offer. It was very strange. I wonder if this was a mistake or something the hotel does routinely to try to increase their profit margin. We found it a little intrusive. read more

Reform Grill at the Mandeville offers up an incredible Sunday brunch. Priced at £42 per person it includes a free flow of wine, beer or prosecco and a 3 course meal. The starter is a posh ploughmans platter. Main course is a proper British roast dinner, beef, enormous fluffy Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings. Come hungry. Lastly, tiered traditional British desserts, chocolate cake, tarts, apple crumble. Perfect and nestled behind Oxford street it's the ideal setting to refuel after a day of retail therapy. read more

My review is solely for the DeVille Restaurant inside the hotel. Went here for a special 'Men in the City' event I organised. We had the Men's Afternoon Tea and the tea was cold, in fact, the 'hot food' was COLD. The service was fine as were the alcoholic drinks. Lovely place & reminds me of one of those 'ladies who lunch' spots. I stay at the Mandeville for an entire week and had a pretty pleasant experience. The standard room was a little on the small side in comparison to what I am used to in the US, which posed a problem. The closet had room for one suitcase, so we had to leave one along the wall. The bathroom was a good size, and very modern. The shower was a little interesting since there wasn't a curtain but half a glass pane. We had to be very careful when we showered so that the bathroom wouldn't look like it had been flooded. Every night around 6PM someone comes by for turn-down service and has the weather forecast for the next day, which helped out in knowing what to wear. The hotel staff was very friendly and helped us with directions and restaurant recommendations in the area. We didn't get to try the restaurant and bar in the hotel, but it seemed to have a decent flow of people the entire week I was there. The hotel was situated right off of Oxford Street, which has plenty of shopping. It is also withing close distance to the Bond St Station, Hyde Park, and Regent Park, perfect if you are interested in a morning run. Overall I really enjoyed the place especially since I made reservations when they had a promotion for $100/night. FYI - they charge for internet if you use it in your room, but if you go down to the lobby the wi-fi is free. Just as someone at reception for the code. read more

The people here honestly came up with the mother of all inventions: men's afternoon tea! ha, ha. When I heard they had that going on I couldn't help but laugh my heart out. I was picturing a bunch of suited guys, legs crossed, eating scones and chatting the latest office gossip. What a scene. So I went to scout the truth about this new trendy service, the hotel that hosts this events is pretty posh and is illuminates with neon lights at night. The inside decor wasn't my taste at all, a bit to forced in being a Phillip Stark. But the whole afternoon tea was actually not too bad, the setting is pretty masculine and the also have a whiskey afternoon tea; I'll be up for that as well. We stayed here for 10 days in February of 2010 and were So impressed with this boutique hotel. The staff was wonderfully accommodating, service at the restaurant was top notch, and the concierge was always helpful. The location is perfect, the hotel is within walking distance to SO many wonderful restaurants, the underground, pubs, and Hyde Park. We loved the Pontefract Castle pub next door. We dined at the Mediterranean cafe for breakfast most mornings, the food was good, but service was spotty. There's a wonderful little curry house in an alley near Selfridge's that is to die for! The rooms are small by American standards, but the amenities were nice, the rooms were clean, and I loved the hand made chocolates placed on your pillow at turndown. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Right, the bar is in an impressive neighborhood, with an impressive menu, and you should expect to pay a premium price. I think our tab for two rounds between two people was something like 55 pounds.. yeah... not really my cup of tea, but if you can't be bothered to leave the hotel or if chic cocktails are your thing (trying to impress a date? *cough cough*) then I guess it all works out in the end. The drinks were amazing... as they should be for the price, we got flavored caipirinhas, and I can certainly say they were well worth returning for. I popped into the restaurant with a couple colleagues for a breakfast meeting last week and while the wait staff were friendly, the management and maitre d' were obnoxious. It's rare for me to feel so compelled to write a review, let alone download an app, reset my password and then write a review but seriously, this place was that bad. I can only imagine the sheer emptiness of the bar/lounge/restaurant area (alarm bells should have been ringing) was what inspired the countless interruptions to our meeting by the Duty Manager, as he tried to sell us more food and drink from their very uninspired menu. In case you find comparisons useful, let me describe the breakfast options as Holiday Inn at best, the decor, Days Inn and the service, an aggressive Fawlty Towers. The only thing going for the Hotel Mandeville is it's location and with so many better options nearby, that is not enough to make me consider a return visit. read more

I chose Mandeville Hotel because it was part of an Orbiz package deal. I upgraded to the Double Premium suit and am glad I did. Upon finally arriving at my hotel, the Mandeville Hotel, I was greeted by three concierges and two hostess who made sure to remind me to set my clock as it is that time of year in London to change from BST to Greenwich Time or Zulu as the Army call it (clocks are not provided in the room but they offer wake up calls straight away). One brought my bags to my room and returned with maps of London and an electrical adaptop/converter with instruction that it does not work with hair straighteners from other countries. unpacked my things into the cupboard that contained a "butler"(which I use to ensure I don't take any bed bugs home if they are present), safe, mobile heater and shoe rack as well as a hair dryer and just enough hangers for all my items of clothing. If I needed any more I could simply call the desk and house-keeping would bring them to me. They also offer iron and iron board. However no coffee pot or tea "bar" in my room only a mini-bar and a 230mL bottle of Chianti and a wine glass that would later be billed if used. Mandeville Hotel in the middle of everything in London is an upgraded hotel. With common exterior the interior has been upgraded with bright colors and essential lighting. My room, a double ensuite contains as I stated, a minibar, TV with internet hook up both wireless and LAN line (access in room is £12/day but FREE in the lobby - ask the desk for the code), computer desk, six outlets for charging items (with individual power supply switches for energy efficiency) and two in the bathroom for shavers (specifically), two chairs, three end tables, Asian art prints on the wall, leather head board, bamboo accent wall treatment, calm yellow paint and dark furniture, full/double bed, four feather alternative pillows (by request), two accent pillows, memory foam bed with fresh clean sheets and duvet (more upon request), double curtains, three lamps and in room bath with full tub/shower. The water takes no time at all to get hot and I find it much softer than the US. I feel like I'm moisturizing and I haven't even used body wash yet. You are provided with two 4oz glasses, two oversized (huge!) towels, two soft bath robes, to wash towels and two hand towles as well as a floor mat (towel) and a shower mat (so you don't slip). The bath may be small but it serves it's purse especially for a solo traveler. You also get two bars of soap (non drying), shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. The hotel practices Re-use so you don't have to have them come in every day. I go for every other day as I am a single traveler and can use a fresh towel for each day. Similarly you don't have to have your sheets changed every day, only when you want them to. Room service will leave a note if they came by and you had the DO NOT DISTURB sign posted, that you can call any time for fresh items or cleaning service. The in room safe fits laptops, cameras, and anything else you need, I got everything (extra money, computer, chargers, work phone, jewelry, medications, and itineraries) to fit with very little effort. The hotel is located one street from Oxford and near many restaurants and coffee shops such as Costa and Starbucks and a Pizza Express and Tesco Express as well as lots of shopping such as the "big" Marks and Spencer. I've not stayed at the hotel but I've visited the hotel bar a few times. This hotel is right in the centre of town but has managed to keep a low profile despite being a stones throw from Oxford Street. The hotel bar is great and you don't need to be a guest at the hotel (or on some special VIP list) to have a drink here. The bar entrance is on the left when you walk into the hotel reception. The bar has a great buzz and comfy seating as well as seats at the bar. The fairly extensive cocktail list should keep you here for a while and the bar snacks are good too. read more

great value, great location, nice little boutique hotel. we good a good deal on the web, including the rather nice breakfast. the room was cosy and romantic, and the bathroom nice and modern. a very short stroll to Marylebone high street and Oxford street, and we indulged in some quality retail and gastro therapy. the lift (elevator) was small and slow, and also used by the staff, so expect a pretty long wait. our room key stopped working on the second day, but reception cleared the problem promptly. friendly staff. definitely worth a stay. read more

I stayed at the Mandeville in early July. This is an excellent hotel. The staff was professional, incredibly helpful, and extremely patient with all my requests. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and well appointed (for example, marble bathrooms), but on the small side. The hotel is near Oxford Street, which is a major shopping district including Selfridges, and the Bond Street tube station. There are dozens of restaurants nearby, but the hotel has very nice restaurant if you want to eat in. I would stay here again. read more
