You would never expect such a amazing restaurant to be located inside a hotel... But it is! We stayed at the Holiday Inn Club Vacation Mt. Ascutney for a week and decided to have a low-key night and have dinner at the onsite restaurant, The Maple Kitchen. It was a slow Sunday night and no reservations needed. The restaurant only had the bar tender manning the bar and the tables. He was very nice but the wait was long... luckily we were in vacation mode so we didn't mind the wait. While we were waiting for the food, we were enjoying the Moscow Mule made by the bartender. He poured all his drinks to the rim, it was great! They only had 2 things on tap: Switchback ale and Harpoon hard cider,but they were solid brews. It took about 45 minutes before our entrees were served and we started to think this may be a mistake. Boy were we wrong in the best way. The lobster bisque dip came with 2 rolls of warm bread already buttered on the outside...soft center with the creamy dip spread over it was so scrumptious. The lamb chop was cooked to perfection and had a orzo chickpea side that can be a main dish in itself. The duck was cooked with crispy skin on, very tender and also came with a delicious rice pilaf. We also had the half chicken breast dish which was perfectly seasoned, juicy! Came with a mushroom and spinach stir fry and mashed potatoes was more like creamy scalloped potato. We were completely stuffed but wanted to try a dessert because the food was just amazing. We shared a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake that did not make it in my photo because we finished it so quickly. Definitely come here, you will not be disappointed. read more

If you are on GLP-1 I would recommend; however, for those who are hungry and appreciate value for their money choose another place. First of all the bar was not stocked, the dirty martini was so dirty it needed a shower. Basic items like ice tea and lemonade were unavailable. Bud Light was not in stock either. It was a quiet Friday night, about at 20% capacity, service was slow. The meal took about 45 minutes to service. Although flavorful the lamb chops were anorexic. The short ribs, were a little on tough side, and lacked flavor, the portion size more consistent with a small plate menu than entree. Good restaurants are in demand in this area; however, this was another missed opportunity. read more

The Maple Kitchen: 5 stars Review by Beth Gallaway When in Vermont, eat local, and local means maple syrup in everything, at least in the Maple Kitchen, located in the Windham building at Holiday Inn Club Vacations Mount Ascutney Resor in Windham VT. We were celebrating our anniversary and splurged on a meal out, and this came highly recommended from our Airbnb host. The Maple Kitchen is dedicated to fresh local affordable fare. For a hotel restaurant missing an executive chef, we had a fantastic farm to table dining experience on a weeknight in May 2024. The kitchen staff did an incredible job to pull together to prep, cook and execute the menu. We split the Smoked Maple Plank Salmon entree, which came with deliciously creamy garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the asparagus was soft with an al dente bite. Our Vermont in a Bowl side salad was composed of apples, local goat cheese, fresh greens, and local vegetables, and was garnished with crunchy maple popcorn "croutons." After reviewing the tempting dessert menu, we opted to order another appetizer--Maple Bites bites instead of desert. Fried cauliflower was tossed in a maple and vinegar glaze and served with a sriracha aioli as an accompanying dipping sauce. They were sweet, spicy, tangy, and absolutely delicious. The menu features tasty and creative cocktails as well, made with local spirits. Though small, the dining room does not feel crowded, and the prominent bar did not give off a bar vibe. This is an experience with a low-key ambience and a nice view. There was plenty of parking, and the lounge, restrooms, dining room and grounds were well-maintained and spotless. Service was prompt, and staff friendly and accommodating, answering our questions and accommodating our ingredient-kosher dietary restrictions. Gluten-free and vegan options are available. The Maple Kitchen is a nice hideaway restaurant in the Mt Ascutney Resort in Brownsville, VT. We sat in the bar area and the bartender made a great dirty martini. We started off with Lobster Brie Fondue and MAPLE BITES (Fried Breaded Cauliflower) as appetizers which were really good. Then we had black Pepper Crusted Beef Tenderloin and the braise short rib. Both entrees were very tender and juicy. I am very surprised that the food was exceptionally good especially for a restaurant in a time share resort. read more

Restaurant hotels are quite often disappointing. That is not the case at The Maple Kitchen. Two nights ago we ate here after a five hour drive. We ordered the Maple candied Bacon and Onion Rings as appetizers. Both good, but the Bacon a winner. Cooked well and just maple- sweet enough. I had a roast chicken sandwich, my wife took a chance on the scallops. Both very good, but the scallops along with mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels Sprouts were decadent. Even though the staff was short handed, our server was thorough and prompt. The ambiance is standard hotel, but designed with a rustic flair. An addendum, tonight we went and had dessert. My wife had a caramel cheesecake and I had this triple chocolate cake. A lovely presentation and quite scrumptious. read more

Been here a few times in the past and for a restaurant at a time share/hotel, it exceeded all expectations and actually looked forward to visiting when in the area. Food was excellent and most dishes had a VT touch/flavor to them. This last time was very disappointing from both the drinks and the dishes. The restaurant was out of a lot bar ingredients and was not able to make many of their featured drinks. They also didn't have stock of many local spirits, which was surprising given their focus on VT ingredients. The drinks they could make were just bad. Margarita and daiquiri, avoid those. Their wedge salad was a poor attempt, see the photo. They offer candied thick cut local bacon as an appetizer and also offer the candied bacon on many of their dishes. Didn't order the appetizer this time, however, the candied bacon on the entrees was thin and not noteworthy. Not sure if they are taking cost cutting measures, but it definitely felt that way. Service was ok, the waiter/bartender took back one of the bad cocktails without issue. Overall, don't think we'll be seeking this place out next time we're in town. read more

So me and my boyfriend stayed at the resort right by this spot, there was limited food options around so we were skeptical considering there's little to no competition. But everything we got was slamminnnnn, the wings were fresh and hot and super crispy. The sauce was amazing. My salad (Vermont in the bowl) was soooo good and bursting with flavor and my boyfriend didn't talk the whole time which means he was enjoying his food great spot lol we will probbaly be coming back again during our short stay. Sooo good. The chef even came out to ask us if we enjoyed our food. Must visit, def saving this one in my traveling bookmarks! Not the mention our hostess was sooooo sweet and very kind. There were 6 of us and we all ordered an assortment of meals. 2 people chose ribs, 2 people chose burgers, 1 person chose chicken tenders & french fries and last was the VT salad. All the meals were very good except for the portion of size of the salad. It was too small for a $16 salad. The salad had very good taste but they could have left out the popcorn Our server was excellent and were very happy with cleanliness of the restaurant. The main-course was absolutely terrible. Over cooked my steak and every other steak at the table. The service was HORRIBLE like really bad. I thought the sandwich was really good, I never had a sandwich with pieces of apple on it before. The fries were great too. Sure, I had my doubts since this place is inside the Holiday Inn, but we ate dinner here on both nights of our stay and we were blown away by the quality and flavors of everything we tried off their menu. The Maple Chicken Wings were unreal. That apple cider maple glaze was soooo good. Ascutney Chowder fantastic. The Vermont in a Bowl was such a fantastic combo of flavors. Spiced maple popcorn as croutons?!? Apples, cranberries, toasted almonds, goat cheese and apple cider vinaigrette was so amazing. I ordered this salad twice. Once with 8oz. salmon that was cooked perfectly. Daily Burger was great too. Not quite cooked medium, but medium well, but nice char and not dry at all. Shoestring fries cooked perfectly with just enough salt. Ask for ketchup, as they didn't supply it without asking. I even ordered dessert (their Maple Kitchen Crumble-- apples and blueberries mix, served with vanilla ice cream). They will even use your CC on file to bill your room so one less transaction and will deliver the food right to your room. Win win! read more

A group of 9 of us dined here on a Saturday night. As a server in a past life, I can appreciate the challenges of serving a large party, especially for an inexperienced staff. The bar and restaurant was smaller than I had expected for a ski resort. But this is a faraway place and a relatively small resort. This is my first time here and even if I had the best experience, it would be unlikely for me to return, as it is so out of my normal areas of travel. But sadly, it was not the best experience - far, far from it. Even though we made reservations, it took a bit to seat us as they had to find a server to take our party. Not sure what that meant. Brandon introduced himself as our server and he was pleasant enough. He told us about the specials and drink orders were taken efficiently. As a seasoned scotch drinker with a frugal budget, I ordered a Johny Walker Black, served neat. When our server showed up with my scotch in a shot glass, I told him that I didn't want it that way. He said that is how the bar serves them. He misunderstood me to say I didn't want it. What self respecting bartender would serve a scotch in a shot glass. Was I expected to pound it or shoot it? What self respecting scotch drinker would do that? So when everyone received their drinks, I asked where mine was. Ok, he thought I didn't want it at all but I explained that I want it in a glass so that I can sip it. My dining companion simply asked that he serves it in a small glass. I supposed that was a most unreasonable request as he came back with my scotch in a small glass, but slammed it on the table. I thought it was going to shatter! I later understood that he gave me the death glare! Another dinner asked how the soup was served, in a cup or in a bowl. That was the last straw. Brandon stormed away and took his apron off. A few minutes passed and the head chef and GM came by to informed us that Brandon has a family emergency and katelyn will be out server. Fine, we just wanted to have a reasonable experience. As it turned out, Katelyn is awesome and most friendly and accommodating. What family emergency? We saw Brandon serving another table. I ordered that bacon wrapped petite rib eye for $18. Compared the other things on the special list, this seemed like a good deal. My food was served on a hot skillet and the overall presentation was nice. The steak and the sides were cooked to perfection. Bravo. While the steak was a tad fatty, that is the nature of the cut and for $18, I can't ask for more. If I had to complain, the whole dish was a tad oily. My dining neighbors had the BLT and the burger and both looked substantial and tasty. Then comes the check. Oh boy. A Johny Walker Black label costs $12.50! Wow! A friend's Manhattan was $16! This friend is the executive chef of a high end local restaurent. He was totally shocked. Even the Pine at the Hanover Inn wouldn't dare charge these prices, let a lone a far away second rate 'resort'. Alas, they have no competition and I suppose they can charge whatever they want! Food, 3 Stars Service, 1 Star for Brandon, 4 Stars for Katelyn Drink prices. Negative stars. read more

The presentation of the maple kitchen is very nice. The interior is what you would expect, given that it's set out in the woods near a mountain. The wait staff seemed nice enough. The food is also played in a visually pleasing way. There were a few issues though. The menu, specifically the entrees, is very brief. There are only seven or eight entrees. There many more appetizers though. Many of the few selections on the menu were out of stock or had been phased off the menu. The choices for dinner on this night were not very good. I ended up ordering a basic burger (the fancy bison burger had been phased out). The selection of beer and spirits was not good. I wanted tequila and they only had two different kinds. I opted for Patron on the rocks and the drink came in an odd little glass with a stem. Seems like a nice place to have some beers and appetizers at. Take out....I ordered a couple basic burgers and wings. I wasn't that impressed and it took a lot longer for the food to be prepared than they said it was going to. You only get 8 wings for $10 and for some reason they gave me maple/brown sugar wings. read more

My boyfriend and went for a Valentine's Day date a few days late and were very impressed. Atmosphere was warm a welcoming. We were promptly seated. Dustin was attentive and made sure to convey to the kitchen my allergies. He promptly offered another side when I was going to in able to have one due to my allergies. Sadly this place no longer serves the excellent food it was once known for since the chef is leaving and was not preparing the food. On one of the chef's last nights he was mixing drinks and letting the regulars know he was leaving. This left us served with ribs that were not cleaned of the membrane and cartilage making them inedible. The mashed potatoes had no flavor, no salt, and hard lumps. The rest of our meals were nothing great except the fries were delicious. The excellent waiter and fries have us giving them 2 stars though overall the food was not even 2 stars. Hopefully they find a new chef who knows how to properly prepare food, as we have always enjoyed this place in the past. read more

We ate at the Maple Kitchen on Thursday while we stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort and it was a fantastic dinner! We were disappointed that the seafood dip appetizer was out, but we enjoyed the veggie dip platter instead. For entrees we had the salmon and the trout, both were excellent but I give the edge to the salmon because of the creamy and flavorful cauliflower risotto. We were too stuffed for dessert. The food was fresh and delicious because it was farm-to-table and prepared very well. As past reviewers have written, the chef came out during our meal to make sure everything was well. The only mini-gripe I had was that the beer selection was poor, but everything else as top notch. read more

Try the tater tots. They are way better than your average tater tots. The food is farm to table. The service was good. This is a small restaurant that is only open a few days a week for dinner only. The chef is a friendly guy who assisted with serving because they were short staffed. Unbelievable surprise - honestly did not expect the food to be as amazing as it was. My family stayed at the Holiday Inn and wanted dinner nearby after a long, tiring day. I figured... It'll be your run of the mill, below average hotel lobby food. Boy were we wrong. The food was absolutely delicious, better than so many restaurants I eat at in NYC where I live. Very reasonably priced for the superior quality. Simple, farm fresh ingredients expertly prepared. My wife and I decided to try it as we were staying at the resort and thought it might be a nice restaurant. The menu was not horrible, but by no means was it great. They were out of a couple of items, which surprised is as it only 6:00 pm. The wait staff was nice, and the chef came out and spoke with each table. That was a fantastic touch. We explained to the chef that we were celebrating our son's first birthday, which was in the day we were dining at the restaurant and they did not offer a dessert or anything for my son. Even the staff singing happy birthday would have been wonderful. We got the crab cakes, a salad, and the VT BLT. The crab cakes were greasy and seemed to consist of more filler as opposed to crab meat. The BLT was okay, at best. The restaurant is over priced for the quality of the food and there are far better options in the neighboring town of Windsor. read more

We ate here during our stay at the resort. It's fairly new, the chef/manager is very friendly and the food is outstanding. Farm to table (they use as local as they can get) and the hint of maple in almost everything is phenomenal. We had the wings to start (amazing!). I had the salmon and my husband had the ribeye for entrees. Everything was amazing. A must stop!!!! They were out of a few items, but planned to make up for it the following night, and some items were gone for good so updating the menu would be nice. Overal it was delish!! read more

We tried the maple wings which were divine and a reason to come back - I'm telling you, try them! We also had to buffalo burger and lobster, scallop, shrimp dish which were divine. Our family (nine of us in all) had dinner at the Maple Kitchen Saturday night. It was one of the best evenings ever. The waiter was friendly and patient and put up with all our jokes and teasing and was a pleasure to deal with. Not one of the nine meals ordered disappointed. Ingredients were fresh, uniquely put together and well plated. The Butternut Squash Ravioli was wonderful and the ribs were superb! Others in our party had the trout, the steak medallion's and pot pie...not a complaint at the table. The chef/manager made several appearances to make sure everyone was happy with the food. We had an excellent dining experience! Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The chef himself came out to ask us how our meals tasted and the manager wished us a happy evening. I loved having our own water pitcher at our table and there was a lovely live musician playing such beautiful acoustic tunes at the perfect sound level (and I'm very sensitive to the wrong dosage of decibels! Lol), we couldn't help but sing along and bob our heads throughout our dinner. The prices are reasonable and the food is quality. The atmosphere is modern, clean, rustic, and quaint. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort and weren't in the mood to go out for food. We had dinner here and it was amazing. The waitress told us they always try to source locally. That's always great to hear. You MUST try the maple bacon. It's so delicious and to die for! Our group ordered The half chicken, salmon and risotto, and one of the sandwiches. The chef did a fantastic job! My son who was 11 months, devoured the risotto. The half chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My only complaint is that the potatoes were a bit too oily. The Brussel sprouts accompanied it well. I highly recommend this restaurant for their food. It's not usually too busy so you can walk right in for dinner. read more

I've had a chance to eat here a few times now and the food is fantastic! Specifically, the Candied Bacon and Maple Chicken Wings (w/ Sriracha mayo for dipping) keep me coming back. Also, I don't have a chance to make it up to VT as often as I'd like, and so it's nice to find plenty of local staples on the menu (namely Cabot cheese and Harpoon beer). Fabulous dinner at the Maple Kitchen on a Saturday night. We had three different waiters, Katelynn, Mike and the Chef himself! All very sweet and accommodating. We were immediately served waters and they let us keep the pitcher at the table which was great. We split the seafood chowder which was served well garnished and piping hot. Great flavors. We then had the butternut squash ravioli which they split nicely into two bowls. I loved the chopped squash and toasted pumpkin seeds in it, added a totally new and delicious texture and flavor to the BNS ravioli which I haven't had before. We then ended the night with the chocolate molten lava cake. Oh my goodness... I only regret not each getting our own!! It was almost completely molten (the best way for it to be in my opinion) and served with vanilla ice cream to help balance out the rich chocolate. I have very mixed feelings about the maple kitchen. We had a lovely meal, the food was delicious although my husbands order was not what he ordered, but it took a while to get our food so he decided to eat what he was given. Our server Marissa (I believe that was her name) wasn't too knowledgeable about the wine or liquor selections. She couldn't have been any older than 16 or 17 though, so I can't expect much expertise in that field. She seemed very distracted and spent most of the night focused on the musician and talking/watching him from the bar. And while he was talented enough, he was very loud for the type of restaurant. Some quiet piano music or peaceful acoustic tunes would have sufficed. He played a lot of hard rock and loud loud loud songs. We would have gotten dessert but our server seemed very eager to leave as soon at the musician finished and we couldn't get her attention to ask. So we left. I give the food and atmosphere 4 stars but our poor service makes us give 2 star. read more
