Upon finding out it was our first time visiting, he explained the menu and the complimentary cheese and cracker bar. We started off with the sticky meatballs and the almost escargot (mushrooms). This is a very cute venue. We entered through the inn, down the stairs, out through the back door through a covered walkway to the restaurant and we loved the decor inside. It was very cozy. We were seated at the rear corner of restaurant and were able to see it perfectly. Samantha who was our waitress this evening was wonderful. If you are not very hungry skips the appetizers since your main dish will fill you. We have the Mac and Cheese burger, pot pie and pub skins. I've stayed at the common man inn a couple times, and was able to try to the restaurant the last time. The decor is awesome and the staff super. I started with a manhattan, and to my surprise they have a big complementary cheese board. I didn't have anything from it but it looked great. For a starter I ordered the mussels and they came out in pretty short order. They were solid. For my main I had the Asian bowl with salmon. There were some nice glazed veggies and rice with the salmon. I'll definitely return next time I'm in town. read more

I'm feeling this is Claremont's best kept secret and it shouldn't be. Let's be honest, not much going on in terms of food scene in Claremont so I'm rating this my number one. The ambiance is so warm and welcoming. I love the decor. Staff....say less.....they are amazing and know everything on the menu. The manager, Patrick, definitely a true gem. He came around to every table. Great for large parties and kid friendly. Menu has everything for any palate. They have a full bar with a great cocktail selection. They give complimentary bread such as garlic rolls with also a selection of a sweet bread of the day. We started w the parm garlic truffle taters. I had the tuna lo mein bowl that could have fed 3 people. Husband had the chicken Mexican style. Located behind the Inn. Parking seems limited but don't let that deter you. We were seated outside with a carafe so water - no glasses, no silverware. Our waitress- who was very sweet- said she would be right back. 20 minutes later the manager came over and asked if our server had been over . We responded about 20 minutes ago. He looked at our table and said ok if you need anything just let me know. First should he have noticed that there were no water glasses or silverware? She came back and was very sweet she took our drink order, appetizer order and dinner order. She also offered us bread and told us cracker bar was in the lobby. Ate here twice and ordered in once while staying at the Inn- first night was steak, ordered in an assortment of appetizers, and last night was pot roast and the pulled pork mac and cheese. The pot roast was sooooo tender! It was an excellent meal! And the steak with asparagus was super yum! The pulled pork mac and cheese was deceptively bigger than it originally looked! Fresh out of a concert by the Garifuna collective a tribal influence Latin American band from Belize I dashed into the common man needing a restroom and found an immaculate one at the bottom of the stairs. I belly up to the bar in a hurry since I had a massage scheduled at 9 PM and Nate immediately took my order providing me cold water, a delicious common man IPA and my salad with grilled chicken was fresh large and delicious all in 15 minutes or less. After thoroughly enjoying my salad and gaining electrolytes from lemons slices that were gladly provided. I was out the door in 30 minutes, sharp, satisfied, refreshed and invigorated. read more

One of our favorite restaurants in New Hampshire. Common man restaurant is built in an old mill and one of the coolest buildings I've ever seen. They even have glass floors you can look down and watch at the water flow by. We ate at the bar and had a great meal and the drinks are excellent and the wine list is reasonable. Bartender was very hospitable and the service was prompt They even have a little local cheese and cracker station that you can go and try out some of the local cheeses. There are several common restaurants in New Hampshire and if they anything like this restaurant they are worth visiting ! read more

Server was very nice and helpful, but unfortunately when the food arrived, the main portion was good, but all of the sides were cold! Sides consisted of a vegetable medley, rice and mashed potatoes. We walked in 30 minutes before closing after a long ride and were met with looks of displeasure. We even apologized for rolling in toward the end of the night. We ordered drinks and food quickly (no complaints about food). When we asked about ordering another round, we were told no as they were closing. We proceeded to ask another person working if this was typical, as I've never been told you can't order something once you've been seated. He gave us a different story. Really cool and historic setting. It was in an old textile mill, and the toilets were real nice. There was a no phone policy, which I feel like wasn't needed. We're all adults here there's no need for you to tell me what to do. I had to risk my life to take these pictures. What if I had pressing matters or someone was in trouble? You just never know. There were free crackers and dip in the front that you could get if desired. The food was not fantastic. The only thing that was really delish were the bacon wrapped shrimp. My book club meets at Common Man frequently. There is a large, private area that gives us room to discuss our book without distractions from the rest of the restaurant. There is a decent tap list and a full bar. We have ALWAYS have excellent service, which is commendable because our group is sometimes as large as 25 hungry and thirsty folks looking for drinks & dinner all at the same time. The last time I was there I had Bacon Mac, which was delicious. I've had the Braised Short Rib Grilled Cheese sandwich which was also very good. No complaints. Highly recommended. read more

"We don't do reservations, but call 30 minutes before you arrive and we might be able to put you on the wait list". Struck me as odd, but oh well. 30 minutes into our 1 hour drive, I tried to call 6-7 times, constantly getting the busy signal. Oh well. We show up, only to be told it's a 50 minute wait, even with clearly open tables. Ask if we can have a minute to ponder with my group. We decided to wait, only for the hostess to tell us it's now an Hour to hour 15 wait!? Not a chance. Not interested in playing their games, we went to the Crow Bar nearby to try and salvage the evening and had a great meal. Not taking reservations is crazy, when the majority of restaurants take them. Shows no consideration for potential customers. Not wasting an hour drive for them to "maybe" have a table. read more

I normally love the common man, however when I got home with my takeout, I noticed the baked onion soup had no broth, I checked the bag thinking maybe I spilled it over on the way home, bag was dry and clean. Okay maybe it was a fluke, when I called, the woman who answered the phone was rude and told me that's the way it is and hung up. I've eaten here many times, this is not how it is in the restaurant. Came for Easter dinner, it was busy as to be expected however the attitude from the bartender was not expected. While waiting for our table we decided to go to the bar for a drink, as is pretty common at restaurants. We sit down and proceed to get ignored from the bartender as he runs around making drinks. We are patient and wait while he makes other drinks. Meanwhile he starts talking bad about us to the servers that come to get drinks for their tables. Complaining about why we are sitting at the empty bar. Keep in mind, there are ZERO signs that say the bar is closed or anything like that. Finally we just speak up and ask if the bar is open, very polite with no anger in our voices despite him trashing on us to the servers. He gets annoyed, barely looks at us, complains about how busy they are and that he can't possibly make another drink or help us and then storms off. Extremely rude, a simple yes or no would've sufficed and given how busy it was we would've understood. Shortly after we sat down at our table and refused to order any drinks as we didn't want him to make them after that. About halfway through our meal however we see someone sit down at the bar, thinking he would get the same treatment as us.. instead though he was served by the bartender. Drinks and food! We started out getting the complimentary cheese and crackers...ummm sorry...no cheese and only a few broken cracker bits in the bottom of the container. Our waitress was nice and asked the hostess to refill it. This was at 5 pm...I could see them being out at 9 pm but at 5? On to the dinner... our party of 5...Mashed potatoes are not that hard to make but a potato mashed on my plate and no sign of any butter is not it. Plus they were cold. My steak tips were so tough I wish they'd warned me to bring my hyena to chew them for me. The veggie of the day...thick slices of carrots cooked with cabbage...no seasoning...nope as it was cool and not hot. My granddaughter got the burger with Mac n cheese...we asked for medium. The thing was still mooing but she said just leave it...I'm hungry. The Mac n cheese on the burger was literally a scoop of Mac n cheese plopped on the burger so it speed out all over her plate all the way to the edges. The one positive is the fries are much better than they used to be. Add this onto the fact that several items on the menu were unavailable on a Sunday of a holiday weekend at 5 pm. Looking for a nice restaurant in Claremont is very challenging on a Sunday evening. I've been to the same restaurant in Lincoln NH and I enjoyed the dinner there and this place did not disappoint. It's an Inn and a restaurant, sort of rustic, it's like an old manufacturing brick building. For the food, it was enjoyable. Although I couldn't taste truffle with the truffle fries. The escargot was garlicky, buttery and cheesy.. I could've easily eaten 2 orders. The corn and lobster bisque was quite tasty as well and for dinner, the steak tips was superb, perfectly cooked, juicy and tender. Tasted like Korean bbq, marinated well, a hint of sweetness, a delightful dish. Drinks are well made, servers and bartenders were friendly and accommodating. Would definitely dine at another common man when I'm in New Hampshire. read more

Jason was our server; hostess was Christina. Both immediately friendly and fast. We sat outside by the waterfall and the spiders kept mosquitoes at bay. Really lovely ambiance and delicious food! Hubby also liked the beer selection. Cute little touches throughout the evening included complimentary cheese and crackers, as well as bread. We both enjoyed the spinach soup of the day, and I loved the crabby haddock! When we got our pizza to go, a food-related quip ("Wanna pizza me?") written on the box made us laugh. I just had dinner (June 26, 2024) with a friend. What a special experience! When my friend was unhappy with her meal (mine was great!) the waiter (Frankie) and manager (Patrick) both came to talk with us and listened respectfully to my friend's feedback. While they didn't need to do so, they ended up graciously taking her meal off the bill. Even before this, Frankie was engaging and attentive and lovely. The place is in an old, renovated mill-like building, so there are high ceilings and plenty of fans to circulate fresh air. People are well socially distanced The menu has a nice blend of fish, foul (chicken and a turkey special!), beef (steaks, tips, burgers), and pork (ribs). I started with the skins, and they were nice, large, crispy, and flavorful. I got the ribs as my main course and I was pleased with the size of the order. The mashed potatoes were excellent, as were the beans. The ribs themselves were a bit dry. My wife ordered the steak tips and they were nicely presented. She offered me a piece and I found the meat tasty but tough. After a long hard weekend moving to the Upper Valley, my wife and I needed to find a place to eat and relax late Sunday. Our intention was to go to Harpoon in Windsor but they closed at 6. By chance we found CM was opened till 8. What a nice find! Relaxing atmosphere overlooking the Sugar River set the tone. Service was prompt and friendly. Drinks and dinner were reasonably priced. My Cobb Salad with chicken was huge and delicious. Bonus was the avocado and bacon. My wife had Tuna Ahi Salad which was equally huge and tasty. Tuna was chilled but cooked just right with plenty of pink. We both walked out with enough for another meal. We will be back to enjoy the outdoor seating on the River. read more
