There are of course fewer tables so plan accordingly We ordered the BBQ Pizza and quesadilla. Both were served hot and really well made. The quesadilla had a nice blend of cheeses and the salsa is spicy and delicious. The BBQ pizza was hot and cheesy with good flavor in the crust This was one of our favorite meals in Copper Harbor. Found this place last minute. The service was a little slow, but our waitress explained that she was new and still training. She was very nice and it was clear she was trying hard. All the way up the Keweenaw Peninsula in northern Upper Peninsula Michigan in Copper Harbor we find the Mariner North restaurant. Just a short 3 hour drive from Marquette MI. We arrived and found a parking space. The restaurant was packed. We were seated promptly and we were greeted by our waitress that was fantastic about describing the many choices on the menu. We settled in on the fish sandwich and a cup of the fish chowder. The chowder was very creamy and mild. But was more of a cream of potato soup. Mostly potatoes and a tablespoon of fish in a bowl. For this reviewer, it desperately cried out for some Tabasco. The sandwiches arrived and they were plentiful and quite good. Having been our first time here, we did not know about the lake view seating. When we arrived, it was seat yourself. Walked in with one other person. There was a big sign that said to seat yourself, we sat at a table and waited about 20 minutes and never had any staff come up to us. As soon as we sat down we made eye contact with staff. A different staff member looked at me and the proceeded to walk right past me and clean the table directly next to me. The rest of the staff were standing at the end of the bar and not a single person came to us or even said anything to us. We walked out due to lack of service. Food was great but the wait was pretty long. The server did let us know when we ordered that it would take about 15-20 minutes which seemed steep but accurate. We ordered a grilled cheese (with smoked turkey and bacon), chicken tenders, and mozzarella sticks so nothing overly complicated. Once the food did arrive, it did not disappoint! We spent the day site seeing in Copper Harbor and wanted to have lunch here. It was a little busy seeing as there was a bike race going on in town. We had a table of 7 so we got seated right away in the back, which was nice. Service was great throughout the entire meal. I ordered the sirloin steak sandwich with fries and coleslaw. The sandwich was good, but a little tough to chew at times, mostly because of the type of meat. I love the Mariner and I love the atmosphere. The beer battered fries were excellent and my sandwich was not bad. Nothing bad on the cooks part either. The lady older lady at the front is the rudest lady I have have met in a while, especially as she is the first person you talk to. If it wasnt the only thing open later I would have never bought anything. This is a nice place to eat in Copper Harbor. I went here twice, once for a drink at the bar, the other for lunch. With only 4 beers on tap, the choices are limited, but good choices. They had the blond and Amber local brew (I can't spell it so I won't try) (Keweenaw - I looked it up) a Smithwicks and LaBatt's Blue. If you don't like the taps, they have plenty of bottled beer. Also ask for it in a frosted schooner. Those looked good on a hot day. Lunch time - We had a very large group of 11 of us with small kids and they handled it very good. I ordered the nachos grande, because that's what I like. The nachos were grande. A plate piled high with chips, real cheese and plenty of toppings. The only thing I didn't like about and why I took off a star for, was that it came with beef and I like to have a choice of meat with my nachos. The kids fish and fries were good too. I'd recommend those as they were a large portion of food for a kid. Definitely enough to fill them up and then some. I was surprised when one of the little kids broke a glass on the floor that no one came running, but it was pretty loud in there and busy. Nevermind the other bartenders who would not make eye contact in fear that I would want something. So kudos to this ahole for stepping up and trying to help. I had my 4 kids outside and was putting a large food order. I explained to him we were sitting outside and asked if I could take a beer out there, he grew impatient. Yells at me "ya, but don't keep it a secret". What? "Your drink, what do you want?". I explained I also wanted to order food and he just starts waving his hands like a mime again yelling cmon cmon give me your order. Since I was ordering for 5, I figured he may want to write it down, silly me. I calmly said "I think I'll just go somewhere else". He immediately says fine and tries to snatch my menu. Real cool. So I lost it a bit. I spent all day driving from Marquette with 4 kids and solo parenting. My stress level was actually low since we were having a good day. Then, I realize there was nowhere else to go in Copper Harbor yet. So I drive hungry angry kids all the way to Houghton for food. So we dropped $80+ there instead. I am a business owner and I agree people have bad days. But the second he tried to snatch my menu, really should have been the point he calmed down. This is a vacation town.....chill. Anyways if ownership wants to know, tall gray hair guy with a bit of a beer gut. I would have got his name but if I stayed a second longer I may have put him in the headlock. Solid 4-star restaurant for the area. Highlight was definitely the smoked trout dip - we'll be back for more! Eating it you didn't get a mouthful of cream cheese - it was very fish forward flavor with just enough spices to add some depth. It's a shame this place claims to be a family restaurant considering the fowl language, intimidating tactics and lack of respect for trying to keep its customers safe by foregoing CDC guidelines and MI State regulations. The food was terrible and bland. The service, or lack there of, was worse. My family and I were originally told we could be seated if we ordered. Once our food came out, which also took forever, the host threw it in our faces and refused to seat us. Before we could speak to any management a middle aged white man easily towering 6' who was serving other tables stomped over to us, shoved his finger in my face and screamed at the top of this lungs at me to 'get the f*ck out'. Rating is relative - and as far as the Keweenaw Peninsula, Mariner North is about as good as it gets (thus the 5 stars). They have creative ingredients (cucumber wasabi dressing, for example, showing more originality than any other restaurant in town), a large menu, and fair prices. My sister, a California transplant, was thrilled to see a Schooner on the drinks menu, something she hasn't seen since Long Beach. Curious: what makes others label this place as too expensive? Everything up here is more expensive as it is carted in from farther away - Mariner North was completely reasonable, at least from Minneapolis standards. Every other place in town costs just as much for poorer quality. The kids menu at Mariner North was very well priced and largely portioned - always a good test of a restaurant's true colors. read more

They also have a full bar with a variety of beer and cocktails. Above all, their service is stellar. They make you feel welcome and the servers are very attentive and friendly. The Mariner is an institution on the Copper Harbor dining scene, and I've been there many times over the years. Most recently, in August 2011, I was impressed with the Smoked Lake Trout Pizza (featuring sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, and alfredo sauce in addition to the eponymous ingredient) and the Great Lakes Chowder (a cream chowder, including local perch and whitefish on my visit). Both were delicious, though the pizza could've used a bit more spinach (and it was a bit salty, but it had a lot of smoked fish). There was a limited choice of beers on tap, but two were from the nearby Keweenaw Brewing Company. On previous visits I've also enjoyed their whitefish and walleye sandwiches. Definitely worth a stop if you're up for some very good gastro-pub food or even if you just want a burger or pizza and beer. read more

We stopped here afer hiking in the Estivant Pines on Friday. Little did we know that our options for finding dinner past 8 p.m. would be so limited in Copper Harbor. The sign at the door said "seat yourself" and there was barely an empty space in the restaurant. We found a table in a back room, and it took a long time for anyone to acknowledge us or bring menus. When we questioned a server walking by, we received a curt "someone will be with you". I guess you don't have to have great service when you're the only game in town on a Friday night. A surprisingly decent choice for dining in Copper Harbor. I mean, this is the north end of the country, folks. Go north from here, and you're under water until you hit Nanook land. The atmosphere is very touristry, but also reflects the "end of the country" syndrome, as if we're in Alaska... there's a "it's done this way, because that's all we got here" type style to it. Don't expect too much, and you'll be pleasantly surprised. if this place was in Grand Rapids or Traverse City... it'd be a bit lower rated. The food is good. The service is good. We started with a smoked whiteifsh pate, which was not bad, but smelled kind of like my cats would have an orgy in it.
