The best shop in town! The energy when you step in the door is heavenly. So nice and vocal so you learn quickly this is a friendly spot and you should stay awhile to feel like family. I did not plan to come here. Actually sat in the parking lot looking for someplace to eat. I saw all these little old ladies coming in and out so I knew it was good. Cakes and cakes and more cakes! They have ever kind you can think of. Seriously, chocolate to pumpkin pies, lemon, strawberry, almond joy, butter pecan...every flavor and it's all homemade. Went here on a Saturday and the place was jumping. It was a revolving door of customers going in empty handed and coming out bags in hand. I knew I was in the right place. Visit this bakery at your own discretion, because everything looks so good. They have a variety of cakes, cookies, and pastries. Your not going to be able to pick one so grab two or three...like me lol. The cakes are soft, light and balanced. The banana pudding was super good, one of the best I've ever had. In some ways I'm sad this bakery is 30+ minutes away and other times I'm happy for my waistline. There is no bakery in Greensboro that compares. Even the one that has the line wrapped around the door in GSO. It doesn't hold a candle to the deliciousness of this little gem. The other night, I met a friend for dinner in High Point. Since I don't live nearby, I decided to get into town early and explore a bit. A quick Yelp search led me to The Market, and I'm so glad it did. Imagine if a boutique and a bakery had a baby--that's The Market! When I went, I ended up purchasing some Aaron's Thinking Putty. The price was the same as it was online, so I was pleasantly surprised that I was getting a good deal. I also browsed through the large collection of Christmas goods, but didn't get anything. I didn't end up trying the deserts, but they looked absolutely delicious. They are on display right by the cashier stand, so an impulse buy was hard to resist. The biggest drawback to this store is that it has a lot of items in stock and it is difficult to navigate without risking knocking things down. Granted, I did go on a busy weekend and it might have a more relaxed feel when it is less packed. If you want an eclectic offering of gifts and a nice place to browse, I would definitely recommend this shop. It does a lot more than your typical gift shop! read more

If Maxie B's bakery and Crackerbarrel gift shop had a baby, it would be The Market. The space is tight and quaint. Pandemic wise, the staff wear masks, but there is little enforcement with the customers. I bought several bags of cookies-they were all soft and tasty as expected. The cheese cake was very good. I haven't found a cheese cake I hated. You MUST try the hot coco bomb filled with Ghirardelli chocolate, marshmallows and pure deliciousness. I liked that they had a few keto friendly deserts. I bought the parfait and found it was good. You can really skip their coffee selections. I had a vanilla Latte. This tasted like hot water. My husband had a coffee with cream and sugar. It was like drinking instant coffee in 1978. If you are in the area, by all means stop by, but it's not worth a trip out of your way. For that, go to the real Maxie B's in Greensboro. read more

This establishment is nothing if not unique. The Market proper features shelf upon shelf of local knick-knacks, many of which are surprisingly affordable. Getting around the aisles (such as they are) can be interesting during a busy time, but the place oozes retro charm. The same visual appeal extends to Dot & Pearl's, as the bakery has a number of delectable-looking cakes, cookies, and truffles (all homemade) on display. The one thing that you will not find displayed here (or, if I overlooked it, displayed clearly) is a menu/price list. That and the layout (there was more of a huddle around the display cases than an orderly queue) made ordering a bit chaotic though the staff remained perfectly pleasant. For our first visit, my wife and I picked up a coffee drink and a cake slice apiece. Dot & Pearl's sells FosterHobbs beans, which generally bodes well for the quality of their coffee offerings. However, the iced vanilla latte that I ordered barely had any vanilla flavoring. The cakes fared better though neither can compete with Amoroso's offerings. The lemon berry cake had a good balance between tart and sweet, yet it was dry. The hot chocolate cake, on the other hand, was satisfyingly gooey and chocolatey although it bore little flavor resemblance to its namesake drink. I wouldn't write off Dot & Pearl's entirely, and the cake selection is commendable, but greater consistency can be found elsewhere. read more

The commercialized side is very expensive and the side with local vendors is extremely affordable. Overall, a decent mix. The Market is a great little locally owned place. It's home to Dot & Pearls bakery which bakes up the most delicious homemade cakes! My favorites are the Banana, 5-Flavor Pound, Tia Pound and Chocolate. The Carrot cake is awesome, too. They have a little coffee bar with all kinds of yummy creations. The shop is filled with lots of cool, unique items...furniture, decorative things, soaps, knickknacks, etc. There are always new, fun things to see there every time you visit. The store is quaint and I always find something I can't seem to leave behind. I usually start my visit with a slice of cake and a cup of coffee. During my last visit I skipped the cake until last, and I'm glad I did. I had to go to the restroom and my husband stayed at the bakery, while I was in the restroom he texted me and said whatever I did not to get cake. I asked why, he said he saw the older woman cough, sneeze, and blow her nose without washing her hands to return to mixing some cake batter.
