I stopped by Dot & Pearl's Bakery in High Point and had such a hard time deciding what to get because there were SO many cakes and baked treats to choose from. They had everything from cakes, pies, cookies, and cinnamon rolls to candy, stationery, and other fun little finds throughout the shop. I ended up trying the Oreo, Old-Fashioned, Lemon Velvet, and Biscoff cakes. Everything was delicious, and I'm already planning my next visit because I need to try the cinnamon rolls and go back for more of the treats I didn't get the first time. Stepping in here made me feel like Alice in Wonderland. The unassuming exterior opens up into high, industrial-like ceilings and rooms upon rooms of vintage/boutique gifts. I'm not sure if they do consignment style shops within the gift shop, or if it's all under the same business, but it's arranged in a bunch of mini sections that all kind of have a different aesthetic. It was a bit maze-like, but I have no doubt they sell something in here for everyone. Like the gift shop, the bakery had huge variety. Who knew there were so many types of cake? I ended up getting a carrot cake latte and a heart shaped macaron. It was only after I had ordered my latte with oat milk, checked out (including paying the up-charge for oat milk), and waited several minutes that they told me they were out of oat milk. This was disappointing, as I paid my extra for the oat milk, yes, but also because I don't really want a latte in general without it. Regardless, it was too late, so I just told them to do it with 2%. The latte was okay but I didn't love it. It mostly tasted sweet and like cinnamon. Which I guess is more or less what carrot cake tastes like? The menu said it came with a cream cheese cold foam or whipped cream (I don't remember which) but it came out with plain whipped cream. The espresso was a little bitter - maybe burnt or shocked. The macaron was gorgeous, but didn't have a macaron taste or texture. It was hard like cookie. A macaron should be light and airy, and the shell should almost collapse under a bite. I had to chomp through this one. I am not sure if it was stale, a bad batch, or if their "macarons" are just "macaron shaped cookies" by design. read more

Always my favorite spot to go when I'm craving good Ole fashioned cake. Got my favorite which is the Apple Almond Pound cake and tried the Italian Cream cake. Both were mouthwatering delicious. I was told to try the Pound cake warmed up in the microwave, and it was even better. Definitely going back for more. read more

When I first walked into this place, it was like bakery heaven. You are immediately engulfed in the sweet smells of butter, sugar, and chocolate. It is more than a bakery. It is a boutique, coffee, and candy shop. There were like 12 freshly baked cakes that you could choose from. They also have pies and cookies. Plus they give all first timers a free cookie. It is just an absolutely amazing experience. I was in love with this place. In the back of the shop is a cute little outside area where you can sit and enjoy your pastries on a beautifully decorated patio under umbrellas. This entire place is just a vibe. Everyone just seems so excited and happy to be there. The employees are just as nice and pleasant. I ordered a slice of German chocolate cake, a slice of cheesecake, peanut butter and cowboy cookies, a slice of this pie, I think it was called Slap pie. It is like a chocolate pudding pie with coconut, nuts, and chocolate chips. I also ordered a slice of pecan pie. The cookies were very soft, tender and extremely flavorful. They were my favorite. The Slap pie was OK. I think it was just not my kind of dessert, but I'm glad I tried it. The German chocolate cake was also delicious. The icing had a creamy texture that is different from other German Chocolate Cakes that I've tried but not in a bad way, just a different texture. To finish out this weeks personal coffee tour, I decided to try out Dot and Pearls Coffee and Pastries, as it was the only thing open on Sunday morning. I was a little bit confused upon entering, having done no research on the establishment at all. When you walk in, there is a full service bakery and boutique(?) goods store. After browsing the entire store and coffee selection, I ordered the Honey Bun Latte with oat milk. It was lacking in pretty much all departments but milk. The espresso was slightly bitter, and I tasted no brown sugar to ease this flavor. They had a fantastic selection of cakes, and many were tempting although I did not order any this time. I can tell that the baked goods is really where this place shines. The workers were friendly, though it did take a while for my order to get started and be ready. I would probably not return for coffee, but might stop in for a slice of cake if in the area. read more

Living only 10 minutes from this place, I should be on punishment but I'm not because honestly, this place is gonna make me a big back. The line was to the door, so I already knew it's must have something worth waiting in line for. There were cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, crisp and cinnamon rolls..... they were SOOOOO many options, they were super nice and helpful. I got the apple pie cinnamon rolls. That thing was amazing! My son got some chocolate chip cookies, he said they were pretty good, nice and soft. I am a fan. Stumbled upon this adorable shop and bakery. Talked to Dawn about possibly ordering our wedding cake and the Tia is out of this world. She suggested and could not have been more spot on. My fiance "got goosebumps" first bite (he has a bit of a sweet tooth lol). The gift shop is also super cute and I feel like I could buy one of everything, so nostalgic. I visited Dots and Pearls for the first time on Saturday Oct 5 around 5:30pm and they were super busy. Most bakeries I know typically close around 5-6pm on a Saturday but you would have thought the doors just opened for the day! I love it!!! The selections were outstanding. They have almost every kind of dessert you can think of, cakes, cookies, pies, dessert bars, honeybuns, cheesecake and the list goes on. You must see the place for yourself you will be in total awe. And they were putting out fresh items so if they ran low on a cake they would put the last slice in a container but then put out a fresh whole cake. And unlike some other bakeries who have the same concept you aren't waiting in line 30 mins or more to get checked out. The line was long but man it was moving. Beware--if you have a sweet tooth, this place is dangerous in the best way. The layer cakes, pies, and cookies are absolutely heavenly. We didn't get pictures because we were too busy trying to limit ourselves to just two items each. I've been here several times over the years and honestly liked it more when there was a larger store area to browse. The cakes are fine--everyone raves about them--but for me, nothing compares to my grandmother's baking. Doris Hiatt, my grandmother, was the best, and her cakes set a high bar that this place just doesn't quite reach. That said, the staff here are always warm and welcoming, and they genuinely seem happy to help. It's a pleasant spot overall, but I do wish there were a bit more seating.
