I don't want to sound like a sourpuss here, among all the glowing reviews, especially for a shop that is clearly independently and lovingly run. But, I do need to advise anyone who is unwaveringly accustomed to the Italian and Portuguese bakeries of New England (at least in the 1980s), and similar places, the pastries here aren't quite at that level. The pastries I tried were a little dense and shriveled, with a slight sour taste (which could've also been due to some uneven baking, erring on the overbaked side). In an apple filled item, the small amount of apples weren't quite soft and sweet enough, as well. Overall, the pastries were nearer to those of a very talented home baker than the polished work of a traditional professional pastry shop. Of course, for this specific region, this will be an enjoyable stop. With that in mind, I'm not surprised there are long lines; it must be very exciting to encounter a shop like this for the first time. There are very few other bakeries making pastries of this type, much less good ones. It's very, very hard to make excellent pastries. But, if you come from a land rich with bakeries, just set your expectations appropriately. Plus, there is the critical difference between New England and North Carolina bakeries: Would you rather have pastries that are sensational from sullen and unpredictably snappish people? ...or pastries that are decent and charming from laid-back and friendly people? read more

Excellent bakery but very expensive. True to their European roots, they have many different types of pastries, cakes, breads, etc., all made fresh and on location. Very limited hours of operation (just 2-3 days a week), and when they run out of something that's it for the day. Although, they do seem to have a pretty good stock of most items in the morning. Be prepared to wait your turn to order at the counter (often starting outside), but if you don't mind paying their prices it is worth the wait. read more

Oh my God this is such a hidden gem in Greensboro! I found out the lady that help me is Romanian, they make everything in house. There are so many options such as cakes, quiche,cookies, bread and so much more. I ordered the jalapeno bread roll. The cheese was magnificent and they even warm it up for you upon request. Also saw the pecan sticky bun, so glad I got it for later! There so many pecans and honestly never had anything like it. The jalapeno bread wasnt to spicy and was such a nice little snack before heading out to shop. I did sit outside and enjoy my jalapeno bread roll with the coffee I got at the jumping bean ( another small business in summer field) since the weather was really nice today. Family said croissants were best they had in our area. Cheesecake rich and raspberry topping full of real fruit. I have to say that I had great expectations related to this place. I love sweet and deserts, so I was super excited to finally find another bakery, but it was super disappointing. The service was great, very kind even with a big line of people waiting (which I was prepared because of the reviews). The appearance of the products makes you wanna try everything, it's beautiful and very attractive, but the taste wasn't good. We bought 4 things: bannoffe pie (strange flavor, few bananas), walnut croissant (super sweet and also a bit bitter), cinnamon roll (looks like had coffee or something else super bitter and tasted old) and lemon pie (that was ok just missed the lemon acidity). I really don't see it worthy to come back, but I might try to buy other things because I really wanna find a new spot for dessert. read more

On a Saturday afternoon there was a line that filled the little bakery. The line moved quickly, which was surprising. The selection is staggering, it was a challenge to choose 2-3 items. I purchased a pain au chocolat and a blue cheese tart. Both were delicious. I've not seen a bakery like this since i was in London. Definitely recommend, but be prepared to wait. This bakery is a hidden gem, one of the best I've been to in a very long time. It's located in a converted house across from the Greensboro Science Center and open only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We meant to stop by a few weeks ago, but the line was out the door on a Saturday morning. Popular spot, and for good reason! We decided to show up Wednesday morning when it wasn't as busy. Little did we know that we would have waited ten times as long had we known how great this place is. What an amazing variety of both sweet and savory items, in addition to their large selection of breads. It was hard to choose for our first time. We seriously wanted to try everything since it looked so good! My wife and I shared a cream cheese filled cruffin, jalapeño and cheese quiche, and a pesto prosciutto pastry. We were in heaven. Can't emphasize enough how fresh everything tasted. We wanted more, and ended up bringing home 2 loaves of bread, a sourdough loaf and a Parisian baguette. Later that same day we ended up eating most of the bread, adults and kids included. Don't miss out on this one. Yeah, there'll be a line. Yeah, it's EASY to spend a whole mess of money there. Yeah, it's possible that you won't adore everything among the 57 varieties of sweet and savory baked goods on offer. (As others have said, their "croissant" dough is...unusual.) BUT... ...when you lock on to one or two things that really tickle your individual fancy? LOOK OUT. For me it's the Cream Cheese Cruffin. Those darned things call to me in my sleep, tempting me to bad behavior. It's as if they were designed to perfectly agonize my hedonism receptors. (I recommend heating the Cream Cheese Cruffin slowly in a 250F oven for a few minutes to liquify the filling before unrolling the whole thing into dippable pieces. Paradise!) read more

I have been wanting to visit this bakery, but I always seem to miss the operating hours. I regret that I left my phone at home (I was in a rush), the bakery is small but so so cute. Our first time here! I had a good, robust iced coffee which is hard to do as coffee can become bitter when iced. Outdoor seating only at picnic tables under a large shade tree. Worked well for us, it was a pretty day. The greeting we received was warm, welcoming and patient ....we asked many questions about the large variety of pastries available. About the pastries....WOW! There aren't enough adjectives! The array of European treats are homemade, baked fresh daily. We will return! I forgot to take pictures so you need to drop in and check out this bakery yourself! On my third visit, I decided to try something completely new. I've been craving something salty, so prosciutto and mozzarella pastry sounded like something I could enjoy today. Indeed, when I got home, the pastry was still nice and warm. It was probably by far the best pastry I've tried here. The layers of prosciutto, cheese and a few cherry tomatoes on top were perfectly encased in delicious croissant-like dough. I had half of it, and then 15 minutes later finished the whole thing. Now on to the desserts. I'm a huge fan of coconut cream pie, and since I came at 9:30 a.m. today, right when they opened, I was able to steal a slice. It was a bit on a sweeter side than I prefer, but delicious nevertheless. The fluffy consistency of cream and firmness of pastry were a perfect combination. A chocolate cruffin was something I've never tried before either. I sliced it in half to see what was inside and was a bit disappointed to realize that filling only went about an inch and a half into the cruffin. The dough was flaky, but not really croissant-like. Just like I noted in my original review, the croissant dough is definitely different from what I am used to. It's not as flaky and more doughy. Also, the pastry was covered in finely ground sugar, but not fine enough to be considered powdered sugar. Probably it is just my preference, but I would prefer powdered sugar. The texture of crunchy sugar was just not something I enjoyed very much. I don't think I would buy this pastry again. The last pastry I bought was a mini blueberry pie. I was surprised how soaked it was. In fact, when I tried to lift it and transfer it onto a plate, it almost broke apart. I cut a small slice and again was surprised by the texture of the blueberry filling which to me should have been more solid. Instead, the juices were flowing everywhere. Now, it didn't diminish the taste of the pie, just got a bit messy. Overall, I will keep coming back to this bakery. I'm almost on a mission to try all of the pastries at least once. While I am pretty critical in my reviews, the fact that I'm willing to go back there is an indication of a very good pastry chef. I also have to mention once again the staff who are extremely efficient even if there is a line out of the door like it was today. I would recommend that people come right when they are open to be able to have a full variety of pastries. read more

It's easy to find the place and it's a single family house, there are plenty of parking space in the back yard. I love how the store displays their bakeries, it gives you a warm feeling! They have homemade gelato, pastries, bread, and dessert. People are nice and willing to answer all of your questions, they are pretty patient. This is my first time to the bakery, but it seems like other customers had been there several times. They do not have much space in the house, so it's only ordering inside, there are picnic tables outside under a big tree where you can chill and enjoy the food, vibe, and conversation with your friends and family. I had the luck to come in on a bright sunny day, had great conversation with the other customers on food, it seems like they sometimes have new items available. OMG This is a true hidden GEM of Greensboro! It's a European Bakery, when you walk in you just know.... It was hard for me to make choices but I got a quiche, a next and a dolce de leche cheesecake and they were ALL amazing! They are only open Wednesday/Saturdays- I got there this morning (Saturday) around 10 and it was happening! Only 3 or so people allowed in the bakery at a time due to covid. There is a ramp up to it with place markers to make sure people are following social distancing. There is no real place to eat here, it's more of a get it to go but if it's a beautiful day you could take it to the park across the street! You can also preorder items for pick up as well! Augustino Gusto had long been on my radar - it received glowing reviews from the start - but its distance from High Point and its limited operating hours made it a "some day" destination. Some day finally arrived during a Greensboro sojourn last Saturday. While there are a number of things to like about this bakery, I nevertheless walked away feeling a bit disappointed. Located in a converted house near the Greensboro Science Center, Augustino Gusto is off the beaten path. That's OK: many hidden gems are. Park in the gravel lot, traverse the long front entrance ramp, and hopefully avoid a line out the door, and you'll come face-to-face with an impressive array of baked goods. Augustino Gusto might have the most impressive assortment of quiches and croissants I've ever seen. There are breads and pies and more to be had here as well, and making a decision can be difficult. You won't want to dawdle too long though as space inside is limited. My wife and I opted to take home a chocolate mousse, a chocolate croissant, and a Nutella bread pudding. At $20 for these three items, Augustino Gusto's prices are high, which would not have been an issue if the bakery's reputation preceded it. Our experiences, however, were mixed. The mousse was very creamy and possibly my favorite item of the three. The bread pudding had good a good flavor but it was dense and a bit dry. The croissant was wonderfully buttery and flaky, yet what little chocolate there was within was entirely at the bottom of the pastry. Despite these setbacks, given the huge selection and the ongoing stream of positive reviews, I would give Augustino Gusto another chance if I were in the area. However, it isn't a place I would feel compelled to go out of my way to seek out. read more

Service was nice and prompt although it can be busy. I got the quiche Lorraine, the goat cheese and tomato quiche, and the french bread. Quiche Lorraine: Great! Has nice ham flavor and wasn't to eggy. Had it cold and oven toasted and both were delicious! Goat Cheese and Tomato Quiche: Also very good! The balance between tomato tartness and creamy goat cheese. It reminded me very much of a deep dish pizza from Chicago in flavor. I would note that this one had a less flaky crust and was more chewy rather than flaky (maybe due to the tomato moisture?) French bread: Good! It has a crust that flakes and isn't too thick with a good rise inside (evenly distributed holes). I would note that it has a fairly strong sourdough flavor (likely they use some sourdough to aid the rise) so if you are adverse to sourdough taste, maybe avoid. Will visit again on a Saturday to try other things! read more

We have come to truly enjoy and appreciate this bakery. The work and craftsmanship that goes into their products is evident. This past visit we got two loaves of their sourdough sandwich bread, 6 sticky buns and two prosciutto "flips", an olive loaf, mushroom and spinach quiche and a pear and fig tart...everything was excellent. The savory flips made a great lunch and travel well. The olive loaf works as a great accompaniment to a salad and has a lite interior with a pleasant olive flavor throughout.
