First, to help you understand how my experience went, I had not had cheesecake (which I love) since going plant-based in December 2017. I only went to Cheesecakes by Alex because it was the meeting place selected by someone I was meeting with. I thought I would grab a tea, have the meeting, and then leave. However, nothing went as planned. Lol First, I am a "sucker" for eclectic vibes, which is the ambiance that the Elm St. location gives. The inside has a large mural on the wall, it has rustic flooring and furniture, and it is nothing like what I had pictured. I thought I would encounter a more "refined" place where everyone had their pinky in the air because of how everyone raved about Alex and his freaking cheesecake. Gracious! I completely understand now. I mean, I get it. Lol So after the meeting, this roughly drawn menu reeled me in because it had CHAI TEA. That's my jam. Once I had a sip of my delicious hot Chai tea with almond milk, I KNEW everything else was probably tasty, so I (in a reserved way) ordered an apple muffin. The muffin smelled divine, so I inquired (because I HAD to lol) about the best-selling cheesecakes. The cashier smiled at me and directed me to the Bourbon Pecan and the White Chocolate Raspberry flavored cheesecakes. They were $6 per slice, and I couldn't decide, so I had her pack both. I had a long day planned, so I had to take the slices home and refrigerate them. I almost forgot about them until around 10:30 when I had a sweet craving, and...have mercy! BOTH cheesecakes were velvety smooth, flavorful, and decadent. The Bourbon Pecan was heavenly. I could definitely taste its unique flavor pairings, and it had enough pecans. I also loved the buttery crust. The White Chocolate Raspberry was rich and creamy, with the tang of the raspberry exactly where and when you need it in every bite. I had to take bites out of each, you know, to treat them fairly. Lol Although I paid dearly for eating too much dairy, it was worth the experience. Sometimes, you just have to eat the lactose pill and jump in! I'm so glad I did. Now you know that Cheesecakes by Alex is Kiesha Speech approved. Hands down, they are bringing more than flavor. Cheesecakes by Alex is bringing the "flava!" I hear there are several locations in NC. I hope you can try one near you. read more

This restaurant has been around since I was in high school & still living in Greensboro. Growing up, I was never into sweets but the older I grow I become more fond of them. The first time I had this particular dessert, I was given it as a gift. Upon the first taste I was hooked. Pure euphoria. Ever since then, I crave this dessert on random weekdays but I live too far away to indulge on a consistent basis (thank God! lol). They had fresh flowers and a large seating area off to the side. Perfect place to get close and share a slice of cheesecake. I LOVE cheesecake, specifically reeses cheesecake, and their peanut butter cup slice did NOT disappoint. It was decadent, smooth, and wonderful. So good I practically inhaled it! I will start like I always do which is the basics. I was there with a group riding the train and the woman who worked at the station in our city recommended it. I need to find her and thank her. There is some street parking and lot parking near by. It was accessible for those in wheelchairs and scooters. I ordered two cheesecakes, the sweet potato soufflé and crème brûlée. I also got the cookie sandwiches: strawberry and chocolate chip and a dozen cookies:butterscotch and chocolate chip. I will start with the cookies. The chocolate chip taste a little burnt. Definitely over baked. Not nasty but had a burnt taste to it. Not what I was expecting. Butterscotch was okay. Thought it would have more flavor. Saying all that, I will say the cheesecake and cookie sandwiches were well worth it. The sandwiches were both really flavorful. I really enjoyed them and should have just got more of those. The cheesecake. Omg. I don't even have a photo of the sweet potato because I took it down. It was great. I did get to get a photo before eating the other one. Overall, good experience. The staff was on it with all the people and orders. I got through the line quickly. Street and lot parking. Accessible for people. We love a good cheesecake. But this time we ordered something else - just as good though! We got a slice of carrot cake and a Gluten free Coconut Guava cupcake. The carrot cake had a deep flavor that wasn't overly sweet. While the the cupcake had a flavor I don't think I've had before. But it tasted really fresh and tasty. Loved them both! I stopped by here around 9:30pm on a Monday evening after another dessert place was closed. When I went inside, it wasn't busy and there were 2 staff members. After browsing what was available, I chose to get a strawberry velvet cupcake that was $3.47. I waited until I got home to eat it. When I opened the container, the aroma of strawberry blessed my nostrils! Strawberry is my absolute favorite flavor. By that time, it also softened up a bit from being in the cooler. I've been a regular for years, and I'm just finally getting around to writing this review! The service is consistently good and the dessert options are endless. I'm not usually a cheesecake person, but the sugar-free pumpkin cheesecake is actually quite tasty. My go-to is hands down the Strawberry Red Velvet cake or cupcake -- it's to die for! The cake is perfectly moist, and the icing is sweet but not overly sweet. I have a love-hate relationship with Alex... because the cake is so good, but it's definitely not doing any favors for my waistline! On my last visit, I decided to try the banana pudding cake... and honestly, it was just-meh. The texture was more like bread pudding, and the flavor was a little off/artificial. I also wanted a few cookies to take home but apparently so did everyone else because when I got to that section of the display they were mostly gone. In a downtown with a lot of vacant storefronts, this is a unique business. How many places (outside of NY and Chicago) specialize in cheesecake? And how many have so many flavors? I went with the bourbon butter pecan cheesecake. I could taste the bourbon that is mixed in. There was a nice dose of crunchy chopped pecans too. It was a pretty dense slice too, I was feeling pretty satisfied after the one slice. The only thing I could have used was a little bit of whipped cream. I can't say it's the best cheesecake I've ever had, but it is very good. And major props, they have good old school crumb cake! It's so hard to find, and they have a great one. Still the undisputed GOAT for cheesecake in town. I love their creme brulee cheesecake, it's my favorite. Whole or sliced, leave it to me and I'll take care of it. They'll even pre slice the whole cheesecake and make even individual servings before sealing it! Just one note... it seems the crust is a bit more crumbly than I remember it. I don't remember it being dry or crumbly, which was perfect to me! I noticed this both on an individual slice while visiting and with the whole cheesecake as well. So this spot is on a very main street so there are a lot of things there so you could easily pass it, but actually how could you pass it if you're looking in and all you see is the delectable treats that they have for you!? Hi, my name is Sylvia and I made a purchase last night 12/6/2025. I purchased 2 pieces of white chocolate raspberry, 1 slice of banana pudding cake, lemon blueberry cake & coconut cake. I'm sitting here eating the coconut cake & I go to eat more and I see a long strand of brownish hair underneath the slice of cake. I've tried calling the store today 3 times & no one answered. I'm going to check the other 2 slices to see if anything is in it. I have pictures and a video of the hair as I pull it out the cake. It's unfortunate that this happened. I drove from Rockingham, NC to Greensboro, NC. This was my 2nd time coming to this location. Suggestion is the workers should wear hairnets or something to prevent this from happening to anyone else. We sat outside down the street from the restaurant. I will add that the item I initially asked for was sold-out, but I think my plan B should've been my plan A anyway! I didn't see any post or hear an announcement about sold-out items, but I won't take a star off for that because that could've been on me.
