This is my fifth stay in this little hotel and it never disappoints. The rooms are very small but extremely comfortable and well appointed. The beds and linens are nice and the housekeeping is excellent and much more efficient than large chain hotels. Staff are always friendly and super helpful and the food and bar are great. I recently stayed at The Marlton Hotel for a business trip. It's a boutique hotel located very close to NYU. The style embodies New York, a traditional design with modern touches. Pros - location, design, service Cons - price, size (significant con) The spaces are very small and narrow. When you exit the elevator, you're brought into a stairwell, then you go into a door which leads to the hallway with guest rooms. Thankfully I only had a carry on suitcase - if you have large luggage, this hotel would be a challenge. Not just getting to your room but the rooms themselves are TINY. There was zero space to open a suitcase. I had to place it on my bed, then unpack everything into the closet. There's little counter space in the bathroom so you either have to unpack all your toiletries and makeup onto the small ledge, or put your toiletry bag on the toilet cover while you get ready. Overall service was good. Although I asked maintenance to fix a slow sink drain and they didn't remove the towels stored under the sink, so when I returned to my room they were all wet, which was a bit gross. I was in a standard room which had a view of the wall of the building next door. Including taxes and fees, the cost was over $500/night. Although this is NYC and hotels tend to be expensive and small, the value isn't there. The Marlton was fine for a business trip, but I would not recommend it for a leisure stay. read more

Overall a decent experience. The rooms and hotel overall are VERY small so pay close attention to the room dimensions when booking. Upon checking in it almost felt elbow to elbow in the entry. The staff were decently friendly, but not super welcoming or helpful. The coffee bar/open work space is a little confusing as far as ordering, so we just kind of figured it out. I appreciate the history of the building and the touches they kept. It's a cool vibe overall. The walls are THIN so be prepared to hear whatever is going on in your neighbor's room. read more

Absolutely amazing experience. I am from California and honeymooned here with my wife just a few days ago. The staff was very accommodating and even gave us an upgraded room for free at the mention of our honeymoon. The restaurant downstairs was wonderful and relaxing. I highly recommend their NY Strip! The shops all along 5th street and in the Greenwich district give you much option to explore and shop! The bellhop was so helpful and even arranged transport to get us to the airport on time to catch our red eye international flight. I'm very satisfied and am really hoping to go back and stay a whole week! It's a must! read more

I don't think you can find a hotel that is closer to NYU and Washington Square Park. Literally corner of 5th Ave & 8th Street, so 2 min walk to the Arch. Well-appointed lobby and rooms. The one cavaet: rooms are SUPER small (no place to sit down). If you spend most of your time enjoying the city and only sleep in your room and want this prime location, this is the spot for you. Mixed Review of the Martlon Hotel, NYC I recently stayed at the Martlon Hotel in NYC and had a generally decent experience, with some clear highs and lows. The Good: Check-in was easy and straightforward, and the bellhop was very friendly--great first impressions. My first night dining at Chez Nous was also positive. The steak and fries were delicious, and breakfast throughout my stay tasted great as well. The Mixed: Service at the restaurant was consistently slow and not very attentive. My ham and cheese croissant at breakfast was delicious but oddly inconsistent--one day it came with béchamel, the next day not. Both mornings, my coffee refills were lukewarm because they were poured from a metal carafe that didn't keep the heat. The Bad: My last night--November 28, 2025--was the worst experience by far. Around 8:30 PM, the bartender took an unusually long time even to acknowledge me, and when he finally did, he offered a snarky "I'll be a second," then turned to a patron he seemed to know and muttered, "More like five minutes, shit." I left after that. The host that evening wasn't helpful either, which didn't improve the situation. Overall: The hotel itself is comfortable and not a bad place to stay, but based on my experience, I'd recommend skipping the restaurant and bar. The food can be good, but the service issues really undermine it. read more

Just not a hotel I'd suggest to stay in if you're in the village. The staff are unprofessional and don't make you feel welcome. The rooms are small (even for NYC standards). There isn't a manager overnight so any issues the front desk literally will tell you there's nothing they can do. The hotel bar (or restaurant) staff aren't ideal and like to talk about you in Spanish while You're standing there. Definitely spend your money/time elsewhere. read more

It was raining the morning of my departure from the Marlton following a two night stay. That's when I discovered possibly the best feature of my cozy room: windows that open! I cracked both to enjoy the sound of the precipitation against the roof. Rooms here are small, bathrooms even smaller. You don't come the Marlton expecting spacious. But what this West Village hotel lacks in square footage it makes up for in charm. I arrived at the hotel needing to be at a work dinner in Gramercy in just over an hour. At check-in I asked for a clothing steamer (Yelper, I always ask for a clothing steamer). Not only did they send one up quickly, the person who delivered it kindly told me he filled it with water so I could use it straight away and I did. On the morning of my departure I went downstairs to find the complimentary breakfast included juice, tea, and a selection of food from which I picked steel cut oats. I'm not typically a breakfast person but I really enjoy this one, especially before a cross-country plane flight. Opportunities for improvement: - Box of tissues somewhere in the room - Deep clean of the hallways (unpleasant smell) All in all, I'd return to the Marlton for its terrific location, helpful staff, and the property's overall charm. read more

Last minute reservation for yesterday evening - great location and everything worked out from parking across the street to friendly staff and comfy seating in front of a fireplace. The room was small, but hey it's NYC and we weren't planning to spend a ton of time in the room. Bed was comfortable and the heat/ac worked perfectly which usually doesn't happen in older hotels (actually in many hotels). Quick cup of complementary coffee before heading out to brunch. A beautiful hotel renovated in an old style which I liked. Cramped but comfortable. Pricey but you can't beat the location. Close to Washington Park. We got a standard room for $500 a night. It would be nice if the nightstands had drawers. Lots of easily accessible outlets. There's a downstairs area with a fireplace which I really liked. You can't be the order something or not, you are free to sit there either way. The onsite restaurant is quite convenient. If you need a taxi/uber, thé front desk will order for you if you want. Following our stay at The Marlton Hotel, I described it to a friend as the most magical stay in New York City. This boutique hotel has all the charm, coziness, and character that I had hoped for when planning and imagining our trip to NYC. First off, it's in the perfect location. Walkable to Washington Square Park and anything in Greenwich Village. The lobby is just lovely with a ton of cozy couches and chairs for seating. There is a fireplace one one side, and an espresso bar on the other. Each morning, they offered free coffee drinks and little pastries, yogurts, and things for breakfast, which was a nice surprise! Check in and out was a breeze. I absolutely loved the aesthetic of the hallway to our room. And our room was small but beautifully decorated. We even had a little window that had a nice view. The bathroom was also so cute. My only complaint is the water in the shower backed up. The restaurant in the back of the ground floor is so beautiful. Sadly, it was closed during our trip, but the menu looked great! I can't wait to come back to the city and stay at The Marlton again! read more

I think the one pro of this hotel is the location. Close to the most desirable spots and the subway. But that's where it ends. The staff were just not kind or even courteous. Not a hello, goodbye, or holding of any door. The hotel rooms are small which they do advertise. But small is not even the word to describe it. You cannot even open a suitcase unless you put it on the bed and the hallways are so suffocatingly small. The rooms can almost make you feel anxious. I used to live in NYC and am honest when I say, stay elsewhere. For the price of the room each night, a hello would suffice. read more

These are the smallest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. It feels like prison, there's no natural light, no room to move, limited space for luggage. The free breakfast is sub par, the hotel lobby is always packed with nowhere to sit (probably because the rooms can't even fit a desk), and there's no amenities. There's no justification for the cost of this hotel. The only positive is that they provide standard daily housekeeping. read more

It's really not my fave but the boyfriend liked it. The check-in staff was so rude and attitudinous and it was such a dysfunctional room. We had the biggest room size (deluxe queen) and it was still on the small size even for Manhattan. Plus the closet had a pool of water in it and I thought it was leaking. Not a lot of space in the bathroom to put toiletries either. And the room was so cold even though I turned the thermostat to 80 degrees (the max). Breakfast was included though! read more

We stayed one night only. The room was little but lovely. For anyone who wants to eat breakfast in the atrium it's not available currently because it's under renovation. It was a great place that was centrally located to everything that we wanted to see. We had tickets to the energy music curfew hour at the Minetta theater. We were able to park directly across the street walk five minutes to our restaurant and walk seven minutes to the Minetta. It was pretty quiet, except for the swoosh of the construction elevator outside that only ran during working hours, so wasn't a problem. It was kind of neat. The bed was extremely comfortable. It had a classic feeling - a little bit of old New York but I'm only guessing. You'd have to ask the ghost of Jack Kerouac to be sure. I would stay again. read more

I was very disappointed to see that the food in the lovely lounge had gone downhill. One of the best parts of the hotel is the downstairs lounge that had very good food. This is only for the lobby bar. Went at 6pm on a Wednesday. The hostess was efficient, professional, and helpful, read no attitude. It was pretty full with locals and tourists and pretty dark, which isn't necessarily a problem but it took some adjusting to. Noise level was moderate so hearing your neighbors may be a thing if you're trying to have a quiet conversation, maybe not the place or time. There is an area on the other side of the lobby with a communal table and a few separate tables that wasn't crowded. Not sure if servers go there though. Luckily there were two seats open next to the fireplace which was roaring. We had four drinks and two apps. Both came out lightening fast. The zucchini flowers (3) were delicious and the turkey meatballs (5 small ones) were surprisingly so good including the sauce! Bill came to $117 w/o tip. Enjoy kids! read more

What a great spot to stay in the West Village! It's incredibly cozy with great design, great service, and great location. You're steps away from Greenwich Village, and close to the subway if you want to get elsewhere. The hotel's lounge is a differentiating factor. It's full of comfortable seating with a roaring fireplace and beautiful Old World wood paneling. There is free breakfast here in the morning, and it's not continental - it's full service, where you can order full plates off a menu. There is also a made-to-order coffee bar with an espresso machine. At night, the lounge turns into a restaurant/bar and is actually very lively. Chose this unique hotel for the great location in Greenwich Village, close to Washington Square Park! Bonus, guests get a tasty continental breakfast, which is either pastries/ yogurt & granola or oatmeal with fruit and coffees (cappuccino/ latte/etc.) and juice and we opted for this complimentary and added a bit we paid for from the regular menu and were very satisfied. Rooms are small, as advertised, but charming and bed was perfect for a great night's sleep. The only negative was the lack of flat space if you are one who likes to unpack (like me) because there is not a drawer or shelf, just the small end tables, teeny shelf and a bit of closet hanging space. The lounge area with fireplace was happening and cozy in the evening and we hung out there each end of night. I read the reviews, but found the staff to be very helpful and friendly when asked for anything, perhaps people who complained are higher maintenance than we are. I thought they were all very nice. My daughter always had one of their very substantial and wonderful burgers. Today howeve the burger was not good. Nothng like the previous years. The bun was not the same and far inferior. No, I was not a guest--but I spent time in their very cozy lobby after dinner at Margaux. This boutique hotel was not only quaint, but the interior (various rooms) set the perfect mood to chill with friends and/or to consider it as a date spot. Unlike some other hotel lobbies, this one was definitely unpretentious. I brought my Rose wine to the lobby area after dinner to savor the rest of it. I'm keeping Marlton Hotel on my return list.
