I heard multiple people talk about how they struggled to stay awake during the day because if they couldn't sleep at night, nurses refused to give them any medication to help. The doctor was by far the worst part of the experience--rude, dismissive, and controlling. If you didn't agree with him or act overly polite, he would threaten to keep you there indefinitely. Upon admission, they zip-tied a tracking device to my wrist. The room I was assigned had a puddle of urine in the corner and hair all over the floor. Only after I made a scene was I moved to a clean room with fresh sheets. When I was finally released, I was given 30 minutes to arrange a ride home. I was told that if I couldn't secure one in that time, I would be forced to stay another day. The nurses were young and negligent--especially alarming given that this is supposed to be a psychiatric and elder care facility. The entire place was an absolute mess. People were treated like animals--held captive with no real help, support, or supervision. My heart truly goes out to the people who were forced to stay because they didn't have family to advocate for them, and especially to the elderly who were abused and neglected.

The staff shows a genuine investment in the people who come there for help. They include family in the process to make sure that everyone is on the same page with the proper treatment. Where other places gave up on treatment if it wasn't working, Solstice persists until they can find a break through and then they keep going. There is always someone available to give us information when we need it. This has been a big problem with other places. The residential program is top notch. I highly recommend.

If there is one thing I want people to know, it's that the staff, program aides, and case managers truly care. They make you feel safe and are very easy to talk to. One of the aides, Lasey, goes above and beyond. She doesn't leave until she knows you're okay and consistently checks on you. She has a calming presence and helps clients who are really struggling find peace and comfort. Can't say enough about Ms. Kara is the person who runs the show. She may sit at the front desk, but she will also become one of your biggest advocates. When she tells you she cares about you or says, "I got you," she truly means it. She wants you to succeed and move forward into a better life. I remember showing up one day, and she told me how pretty I looked and that she was proud of me. She was proud of me and then wrapped me in one of her giant Kara hugs. Even though I mentioned two people specifically, all of the staff are caring and supportive. They won't let you feel sorry for yourself, but they will help you recognize the direction you need to go and encourage you every step of the way. This place and its staff truly helped save me from my depression. Ms. Kara says this isn't your first home, but your second home, and that really reflects how they make you feel. They also offer TMS, and for me it has been a complete game changer. If you are considering getting help for yourself or a loved one, make the call and take that step. I can't fully express what this place has meant to me. Even my family felt encouraged and reassured when they had to leave me there, knowing I was in caring hands.

I attended Burning Tree Ranch in…read moreKaufman, TX for just under two months in the fall of 2025 after multiple detoxes and many prior short-term programs. I was a client, not a referring professional or business partner. I left and have since gotten to a much more stable place. This review is not written from crisis. It is written because the gap between what was presented and what I experienced was large enough that I wish someone had said these things clearly beforehand. When I later raised the discrepancy, a senior leader's response was essentially, "We got you here, right?" There were genuine positives. My individual counselor was excellent -- the best part of the experience. Some other staff treated people decently, and I met at least one client who said he needed and wanted the long-term structure. I will not pretend those things did not exist. The problems were structural. The program was presented as roughly a year; the actual continuum is closer to two and a half years. Outbound communication with family was tightly controlled -- calls monitored and restricted, and my first letter home had to be read aloud to the group. At the same time, the facility maintained its own channel to my family. During detox I was directed to turn banking access over to my father, being told it was to prevent me from taking someone else from the facility and leaving with them. At times the facility went into "shut down." Clients could not speak to one another, enforced even without staff by using confrontations so people would call each other out. During shut-down the chairs were placed so we were in continuous physical contact, bathroom access was tightly controlled, and the "corner" chairs were highly sought after because they gave a little space. I never agreed to give up my physical autonomy, including the freedom to use the bathroom when needed. They also removed coffee during one shut-down; when it returned, the clinical director said something like, "Your bodies are craving it, it feels good, right?" I watched them take drawing away from a client who used it to regulate. Seeing him later leave in an ambulance the second time he ran is a big part of why I'm writing this. Daily confrontations significantly increased my anxiety. Staff repeatedly referenced my military service with variations of "What about this is harder than being in the Army?" For someone with significant anxiety, that combination of confrontation and control was extremely difficult. A program that presents itself as dual-diagnosis capable should take this more seriously. When I asked to leave I was held 48 hours, then dropped off at 3 p.m. in Dallas behind a homeless shelter that would not take me because I just wanted to go home. What keeps me on track now has nothing to do with fear of that facility. It is the knowledge that I will one day give an account. I'm at peace with what I have to say here. I was lucky enough to be born to the best parents a man could ask for. They supported me through a very difficult time, and I love them for it. I'm not telling anyone to avoid treatment. If you need it, get it -- just go in with open eyes. Families should ask hard questions about total length, completion rates, how communication with family actually works, and what happens when someone wants to leave. The place is not what the marketing suggests, and the cost of discovering that after arrival is high.

Each day we had 1 group meeting w/ social workers and 1 group activity (ie Pictionary, YouTube dancing, petting a dog). Most of the time we sat in common areas watching TV since spending time alone in your room was discouraged. There is no outdoor exposure. It's 2 long hallways, 2 common areas, and 1 cafeteria-lounge area. Overall, the nurses and techs were helpful, the social workers were overworked, and the doctors/psychiatrists were mechanical.

I drove to the hospital to bring the medication myself, but after waiting about 40 minutes, asking multiple times for assistance, and requesting to speak with a supervisor, no one ever came to help. I eventually had to leave with the medication, which meant my loved one went without a medication that had already been prescribed. What frustrates me most is not the inconvenience to me. It is that a patient went without needed medication because the process broke down. Better communication and a little urgency could have prevented the entire situation. I have filed a formal patient grievance because I believe this needs to be addressed. If you are considering entrusting the care of a loved one to this facility, I would encourage you to do your homework and carefully consider your options. Based on my experience, I believe you can likely find better care elsewhere.
