I am so impressed with this random find in the Claremont/Upland area. I'm not much of a meat eater but I do enjoy myself a tenderized, juicy chunk of meat once in awhile. We came here one evening and it was a just what we were looking for, a modern steakhouse to celebrate a special occasion. The parking lot is small so there are limited spots. The food was delectable. Shortly after we ordered water and cornbread was brought to our table. The cornbread was warm and the butter was tasty. There is a great selection of high quality meats including wagyu. We ordered the tomahawk steak and it was melt in your mouth good. They also ask if you have a pet or dog that would enjoy the bone and can bag that up for you at the end of your meal. The sides are a la carte and are an additional charge. The service was amazing. The bartender and servers were very friendly and attentive. I would definitely return to the Meat Cellar for date night, or special event, or when feeling fancy. read more

The dinner was supposed to be a DATE NIGHT until my daughter found out where we were and crashed our evening! The Meat Cellar is where all finicky carnivores should go to indulge in mouthwatering dishes! When you first walk in, you enter a spacious and well lit warehouse space with a simple rustic gastropub date night feel. The establishment was clean and there were enough room between tables that you didn't hear the other party's conversation!! WIN! KENDRA is truly any awesome service professional! She was welcoming, extremely sweet and very attentive and thorough. Great timing with the check ins too! We ordered several plates, Wagyu Rib Eye, Surf and Turf and the Dry Aged Rib Eye. Appetizers were oysters, pork belly, brussel sprouts, and mushrooms The surf and turf came with hangar steak, lobster, prawns with a small salad, potatoes and asparagus. Adult sodas were the blackberry special. Portions are huge! You can share the plates family style and still leave with full and happy tummies! The steaks were phenomenal! Perfectly cooked to medium rare! No additional seasonings needed. THe Wagyu was just a bit disappointing. The ones we usually had at other establishments were usually a bit more buttery tender. The oysters were fresh and yummy. I would only suggest that they spend a lil bit more time cleaning the shell of the loose grit. The lobster was amazing! Sweet, tender and a great portion! The brussel sprouts!! Show stopper! So yummy! The corn bread was one of the best PLEASE MUNCH ON THIS UNTIL YOUR FOOD IS READY appetizer! They only had two desserts to be served, rum raisin bread pudding and a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. My daughter chose ice cream and loves it! Hopefully, they will have more options. I recently went to the Claremont location and was disappointed that you can only order cocktails and no beer or wine during Happy Hour..... Let's just say, I wasn't happy during the hour I was there. I also was disappointed that the previous menu items weren't there, like the shrimp tacos, the wings, the queso!!! I LIVED FOR THE QUESO!! I ordered the fish and salmon tacos and would've preferred eating toast since they were extremely bland. Change can be good at times but this just made me really rethink going back to a NOT SO HAPPY HOUR...... Meat Cellar, please bring back what the people want and don't make us become Yard House happy hour customers.... I beg of you! I was going to give this a 1 star however, the bartender Pablo made it a vibe and made this experience there enjoyable! He really connected with the customers and you can't find that everywhere. Ambiance is casual and very loud so not good. Wait time for food very bad. We sat down around 6:15 pm and got our food almost at 8:00 pm. Steak cook time was specified on the menu. The bigger the steak the longer the cook time. You pay more with a credit card!! Price $288 with tax, plus $45 tip for 1 ribeye, 1 miso fish, 1 cocktail, truffle fries, and asparagus. - Never again. This was our third attempt in approximately 3 years. Definitely not a charm. In summary, I found the restaurant pretentious, and the food mediocre at best, though perhaps not quite as bad as the previous visit where the waiter attempted to pawn off an indistinguishable slab of meat as Prime Rib. Both my wife and I opted for the Filet - mine medium rare, hers medium. I could have overlooked the rushed manner of service, getting the plates mixed then dropping them on the table, but not the surprisingly large hunks of meat. The texture was rubbery, chewy and somewhat devoid of flavor. The sauce helped a little but not enough. We both took home about 50% of the leftover meat but the next day was worse than the previous evening. The neighbors dog ate it though. The vegetables were so salty to be inedible for my wife. I at them but used quite a bit of wine to down it. Perhaps that was the intent. The reason for "pretentious"? I'm glad you asked. We live in Claremont - I have for 42 years - and we sometimes have a running joke about Claremont-ites. But there is much to be proud of in this city. The colleges - other than their fascist clampdown on the freedom of speech - are gorgeous and world-renown, there is art, a fabulous Sunday Farmer's Market, and lots of trees - though the City Council now finds many intrusive and are gearing up to cut down thousands. And some very fine restaurants. Unfortunately, this is a flop. By the way, maybe try cloth napkins? and if you are too cheap for that at least hand out a paper napkin with your refreshments. This place is the place to get your steak fix! We ordered a few things. 1. The short ribs fries 2. Prime Bone in rib eye 3. Charred octopus 4. Bread pudding dessert The steak was juicy and tender and cooked to perfection. Best steak I ever had and we love meat!! The octopus was delicious too, and the presentation was nice. We had a few drinks - old fashioned and Boss Lady (Two rounds). The drinks were on point. Our server Anthony was so nice and attentive. Service was excellent. I'd been wanting to try the Meat Cellar for a while... it didn't disappoint. Quite the opposite. Visiting for a business dinner with spouses, the Meat Cellar made for a wonderful evening for our table of 14 guests. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted from a friendly hostess. As our guests arrived, we moved to our table and started with drinks - cocktails, wine, and locals beers. I enjoyed their Old Fashioned. On a scale of 1-10, it was a solid 7. That said, I'm a stiff grader on Old Fashioneds so I was happy with that. I wasn't expecting anything more as I've come to find most serve them in my 3 to 5 range and rarely do I find one close to a 10. Shortly after, we had numerous appetizers - the jumbo prawns, bourbon pork belly, and shortrib poutine. My fave of the three was the pork belly. Sometimes pork belly isn't done well and it's not great. But their pork belly was just right - it had a smooth texture with a perfect blend of the meat and fat and it was served at just the right temp. Next came the Steakhouse Wedge, which may have been the best wedge salad I've ever had. It was so large that I shared it with three others. I decided upon the Wagyu Ribeye Score 6 marbling. It was tender and juicy with a rich, butteriness. By this point in the meal, I could only eat about half the portion. My son was thankful for that as he got to enjoy the other half when we got home. With dinner, we also had the charred asparagus, mac and cheese, and the bacon brussels. I enjoyed trying all of them. We didn't try dessert as we were all pleasantly full by that point. It's good to note that it's not an inexpensive place. Be prepared to spend a decent amount. Also, note that the atmosphere is not overly fancy, which I liked. It was nice but also comfortable as it's connected to what looked like a meat counter or deli. I'm looking forward to my next visit! read more

We came in really early and they sat us near the kitchen/wash station in the back. When we asked to be moved they had to make sure it was allowed, even though no one was practically there. The Meat Cellar is a premium reputable butchery, restaurant and bar. I have been here a coupon times and have had consistently positive experience with their food and service. Love their interior with the rustic barn type of ambiance. Located off Route 66 - Foothill Blvd they are fairly easy to spot, but somehow I always miss their parking lot and end up parking on the street right after and walk over. On my first visit I enjoyed their Charcuterie board which has a selection of their fancy cured meats, cheeses, and classic accompaniments. It was enjoyable but at the time I wasn't inspired to write a review. On my second visit I had The Fancy Burger ($23) which comes with a side of their house cut fries. This was clearly a more memorable experience. This glorious fancy burger came with a wagyu beef patty, bone marrow aioli, caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, smoked bacon jam, arugula, truffle garlic. Soooooo much flavor. Every bite was fantastic. The patty was so juicy. It was the best burger ever and great value! Yummmm! Will definitely want to come back with some company so I can try offerings from their butchery counter. There were minimum "pounds" for the steaks and I can't eat that much by myself so Looking forward to coming back with a friend to try more of the menu. read more

The door greeter Dylan Was very attentive and immediately brought us water and cornbread (which was delicious) promptly upon seating us. The bartender Greg hooked us up with delicious cocktails, mine was the Smokey pine and pencil thin mustache which were very tiki tasting. My server Chelsea, got the chef to make me vegan style mushrooms which were delicious, with rosemary and pepper, such a treat. Boyfriend got Poutine but was sadly disappointed it didn't have enough gravy in it and was on the dryer side. I was hoping the previous to this last time was a fluke. We visited this past Sunday. Dinner for four, celebrating my daughters boyfriend's graduation from the Air Force Boot Camp and air traffic control school. We are excited to take them out, as he was never been there. Dinner started out with an order of oysters, which we are told we're sold out for the day Because it was Sunday. We ran out of the upgrade to the surf and turf which was a Wagyu steak so we upgraded with a different Wagyu that meal was $124. The octopus was cold in the center. I ordered a prime Las dry age, ribeye, with almost 5 to 6 ounces of fat. The lobster was delicious, as was the lobster mac & cheese. It was my daughter's 18th birthday and I wanted a nice, intimate dinner with my kids as we were having bday festivities another day. Wait staff were super welcoming and friendly. I first learned of this place at my local wine bar in Anaheim, #ColonyWineMerchant, but this was my first in person visit. I had the fancy cheeseburger and it was amazing. I haven't been here in years but this place has gotten bigger from the hole in the wall I knew it as once! The ambiance is beautiful it's gives you the corner butcher shop feel while offering a decent place to sit and eat a high end meal. I had a hard time choosing a meal. My server Clinton offered me a surf and turf meal for 85 dollars which was a bargain for the quality I got! My staple for an appetizer is always their short rib poutine which is to die for with the cheese and fries and pulled meat they put into it! The restaurant makes it seem like they sell top of the line meat, but we ordered the Australian Wagyu Score 9 and there was only two slivers of fat and not as marbled as it was sold to be when compared to the Score 6. The meat did taste different, like a bit gamey, but not in a bad way. Definitely not worth ~$100/lb. I'd rather buy a tomahawk or ribeye from Staters and be happier. We also ordered the mac n cheese. Flavorless, yet spicy? It was weird. It was so bland and felt like there wasn't any cheese in it. Perhaps they make it such a mild flavor (emphasis on mild) so that the Mac is versatile enough to add lobster or bacon? Beware though: if you order without any of those, it's completely flavorless. I had the wedge salad w added steak. I thought the salad was delicious, but honestly if you add enough blue cheese in something, I'll probably love it. Their complimentary corn bread and honey butter was delicious!! I wanted more and would've preferred to pay for that than our mac n cheese. I also didn't like the seating area. There were no booths and the chairs are so uncomfortable and fitted soo close to other tables. I could hear everyone's conversation and I'm sure they could hear ours. It seemed like later into the evening, the restaurant tried to compensate for this by turning up the music. However, that came at the cost of not even being able to hear my partner seated across from me. Not worth the hype. Bad ambience. So here's the good. They have a very nice wine list at affordable prices. We were greeted and immediately presented with some corn muffins, which were nice. The meat is clearly top-notch no complaints about that. But the service seemed a little haphazard. We had told them it was a wedding anniversary, but they did not aknowledge that. That's OK if that's not their thing. The timing of the service of various courses just didn't seem quite right. There were several servers and managers around, and we would be asked how things were three or four times within two minutes, and then no one would come by for 10 minutes. We ordered raw oysters. These came fresh and well presented. The waiter had told us ahead of time there were three kinds to try, but no one explained which one was which. There was no little spoon to put the mignonette onto the oysters. This was one of the times when no one came by. Everything seemed over seasoned and too salty. Especially the sauces and sides. I'm glad this restaurant is in Claremont. They need a little more attention to detail and a little less salt and it would be fabulous. In the meantime for an anniversary steak dinner, you are probably better off at Tuti Mangia. read more

Amazing! We went on a Saturday evening and it was busy! We sat at the bar. The bartender was very helpful and friendly. He never made us feel that he was too busy to spend sometime talking to us. The drinks were very tasty. The prawns were cooked perfectly and the cream sauce that they came with was so creamy and flavorful. The pork belly was on top of polenta with roasted cherry tomatoes. Located in the same building that used to be Wolfe Market ( they still sell meat and salads) is a great restaurant for lunch or dinner. First, what we had: the short rib poutine was mind blowing. The fries were seasoned so well and loaded with unctuous short rib meat, gravy and melted cheese. We shared the generous portion and are now stuffed. The Dao Cabernet was delicious. Claremont Alehouse blonde nutty and smooth. As recommended by our sever, the Japanese lager, Panam was crisp and fruity. Our server Pablo was phenomenal.
