Amazing gluten free turkey sandwich!!! This quaint grocery store has it all - Italian sandwiches, Italian cookies and staples, drinks, salads, and even tri-tips. The owner and his wife were so helpful and friendly - they really made us feel so welcome. We feel like this would be a great place to live based on this butcher/sandwich shop that also has prepared meals. We really appreciated the large area to eat in this pleasant atmosphere. read more

The other day I stopped in and ordered 4 8 ounce center cut filets. But her cut them and wrapped them in brown butcher paper. At 39.99 per pound i kind of expected something close to what I asked for. When I got home, they were not center cut at all they were from the end where the 2 heads separate, with the big section of fat in the middle. Also, they didnt trim even an ounce of the outer fat. They basically took a filet, untrimmed, and cut 4 pieces and wrapped them, charhed me 72.00 and sent me on my way. After trimming them all down I actually had about 1 pound of meat. Pretty disappointing to pay more than even Whole Foods charges, but getting the worst quality around. Not sure of the beef grade, but there is no way it was Prime. Obviously Choice or Select. So I should have just gone to Market Basket. I think most of their but hers are terrible, but they charge 16.00 less per pound and actually trim some of the fat. I would actually think meat from a local butcher shop would be cut and trimmed properly. Also, if they didnt have center cut filets, as some places do not sin e they only buy the cheaper half of the tenderloin without the center cut section, they could have at least mentioned it. But hen you see they charge 39.99 per pound, higher than pretty much anywhere that sells Prime filets​​, it seems like a safe bet that they have Prine Beef and will give Center Cut Filets when thats what is requested. I certainly did not expect to get garbage cute and get robbed for it. Obviously anyone who knows nothing about the quality of meat or the types of cuts may not realize they are screwing you over. My father was a butcher and i grew up pretty much inly eating center cut filets, so i know what im talking about. It is upsetting because they are walking distance from where i recently unfortunately moved to. I actually thought it was going to be great living half a mile from a butcher, but now i know they only sell low quality cuts, dont trim the steaks to maxing the screwing you get, and charge Prime rates and give select or choice, there is certainly no reason for me to go back. Im sure they will do fine due to the onlivious customers who dont know what they should be getting. Thanks for screwing me over, Im definitely glad you did it on my first visit. Same quality tenderloin that Lambert's sells for 14.99 a pound, and i wont buy from them at that price, but i bought it from you for 39.99 a pound while expecting better. read more

Decided to try this place on a whim as we were looking for somewhere new to get subs. Was surprised to walk in and see not one person wearing a mask as it is a pretty small space. We got a steak and cheese, which was fine but the steak could have used more flavor, the bread wasn't toasted so it got pretty soggy by the time we eat it. I came upon this gem about a year ago from a recommendation from a good friend. Everything I have tried from The Meat Market has been consistently excellent. The staff is friendly and the market is very clean. I gave the Meat Market a 5 star rating because I truly believe this place is as good as it gets! The butchered meats are incredible. The marinated steak tips are the best I've ever had. The fresh meat along with the marinades they use put this place at the top. I've also tried the homemade sausages which were fantastic. They have a wide variety to choose from. I highly recommend the Chinese sausage. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. They have daily lunch specials. Always ask for the specials!! Everything that comes out of this kitchen is great. Using that advice I got the chili last time i went. Great decision. The chili was amazing and it came with these homemade pita chips that really took it up a notch. The subs are an excellent choice too. Everything they served here is high quality, they also only use Boar's Head Cold Cuts. With your sub you get homemade chips, add a drink and your walking out of there having a superior meal for under $10. The prepared meals I've tried are great too. I keep a few in my freezer at all times. These are quality meals at a great value. I'm also a huge fan of the breaded cutlets. There was a complaint about the cutlets being tiny. I've never come across that. Perfectly cooked breaded cutlets every time. I don't leave without getting at least a couple. I also highly recommend the calzones from here. Big calzones with big flavor. My top choices are the Buffalo Chicken, Steak and Cheese, and the Italian Cold Cut. read more

Finally after 2 years I found a butcher in the throp! They're actually more than just a butcher, they are a deli/sub shop, convenience store, caterer...oh and they deliver! Oh and Pizza! And its pretty good, square sicilian slices. Ok so they have meat of every kind, marinated or not, steaks, steak tips, turkey tips, chicken tips, lamb tips, game poultry, pork, beef, sausage...I can go on and on and that is just for the butcher part. They carry only boars head deli meats which looked good, but this wasn't the purpose of my awesome trip. I came to try out the steak and turkey tips. I am inhaling them as I type and theyre ammaaazzzzing. The steak is marinated in a mesquite BBQ and the turkey in a garlic and herb, both with amazing flavuh from the throp! Also, i got some sausages which they confirmed that they make on site, hopefully i found a MA version of the pork store (ok not as great as brooklyn, buuuuut). The prices you ask? Not terribly bad. The steak and turkey was $5.99/lb the same or less than at a standard grocery store (obvi fresher and tastier. They also have butcher packages which are really good and affordable. You get a variety of meats and sausages for set prices, all ready for the freezer, so I am going to have to try that one out when i get a deep freezer. Ok I think im in a food coma so I need to stop, but I am super excited that I finally tried it out, oh also its in Winthrop Center across from a church...not sure how parking would be on a sunday (if theyre open) but whatever, I WILL BE BACK! Never have I stopped a meal mid bite to review a place. Not until now. I was just enjoying one of the Meat Market's delicious cold cut calzones when I had to stop and yelp. The Meat Market has always been a Winthrop institution. But, it is well beyond your local butcher. Sure my family has been getting its BBQ needs for years from the place (the garlic cheese sausages are probably the best out there)...but it is more that that. Italians subs are the best I have tasted. Fresh cold cuts, crusty bread and fresh fresh tomatoes. Try the buffalo chicken pizza. At around $2 a slice, one is ENOUGH -talk about being economical in these hard times. As I mentioned, the italian cold cut calzone stopped me dead in my tracks to write this review. My only problem is that they are closed on sundays...and that makes me sad. read more

i want to start this by saying i've gone to the meat market my whole life and this was the first time i've ever had a bad experience. i love the chicken salad subs, but today i had the worst chicken salad sub i've ever had. the chicken was flavorless mush. the hots wasn't even hot, just salty, so each bite tasted like play doh. i was so disappointed i called to let them know "hey i think you're serving old/gross chicken". the woman who answered the phone sounded like her dog just died. she sounded so sad and monotone i wanted to ask if she was ok. she didn't offer a refund, said she would tell the owner, then hung up. very shocked by this customer service. the meat market is usually great and reliable. they must be having a bad day. read more

Great place. Have been going here for years. The staff is great, the owners are wonderful. I have to say, I have never gotten anything that was not great. When we come here, it is overwhelming on what to get because everything is right on, so we each try to get something different and we share, so we each get a little bit of everything. The beef is cooked perfect to your tasting. It is a great atmosphere. Very good. I come here with my friends a lot after half days from school. I usually get a Caesar salad with breaded chicken cutlets. Let me tell you, they have some of the best chicken cutlets that I have ever had. Mixed with the Caesar dressing and lettuce, it is perfect. FFS. I live nearby and don't frequent this place because I don't eat meat, but - walking to the bus stop last week - noticed the sign "Order your fresh turkey for Thanksgiving!". It will likely be my elderly mom's last Thanksgiving, and it's her favorite holiday, so what the heck. I stopped in, ordered a bird, they said they would call on Tuesday or Wednesday - awesome. Nothing on Tuesday, nothing on Wednesday, so Ron went in and asked this afternoon when he got home: Of course - here it is, only $3/a pound - enjoy! He put in in the fridge and I came home a half hour later ready to put it in some brine. SOLID FROZEN ROCK. I could have gotten the same damn thing at the chain store last weekend for a fraction of the cost, but if I had done that I would have been able to thaw it out and actually use it. The label indicated that it was fresh when delivered, but they obviously just tossed it in the deep freeze because..because...because WHY? What the hell am I supposed to do with a 20 lb frozen rock of a bird at 5PM on Thanksgiving Eve?? And there's not even time to make reservations anywhere. I am so pissed. read more

Great chicken pot pie option on a cold Thursday night, had popped in to get some steak tips and found they had a chicken pot pie special Thursday's. Not bad at all, loads of chicken, with a pastry/filo type crust. I think it was 13 for the large so it was nice and easy and still warm when we got it home. read more
