During a recent visit to some friends in Chelsea, I wanted to pick up breakfast for everyone and found this place on Yelp so I decided to go here. It's a very unassuming sandwich shop that's quite easy to miss. My friends have lived a few blocks away for a year and never even noticed this place. Inside the shop, there are a few seats, but it is definitely much more of a takeout place. It seems like most of their orders are for catering as well. When I got there, my order was taken at the front by a very kind woman. I ordered a few sandwiches and fries for about $50 total and then was told it would be about 10 minutes. Lucky for me, there was a Dunkin a short walk away so I went to grab some coffee. Once I was back, it was just another minute or so for my food. The sandwiches are MASSIVE. I mean these were the biggest subs I've ever seen and I included a photo below with some hands for reference. I ordered a New Yorker for myself and then 2 other breakfast sandwiches for my friends which I did not try. The New Yorker was incredible - nice meaty, cheese, and carb heavy - the perfect meal for a long day ahead or as a hangover cure - an absolutely fantastic sandwich. The sandwiches are definitely too big to be just 1 meal. I stretched mine out for just 2, but could easily have been 3. This easily helps to justify the rather expensive cost of a single sub. The fries were really good too - they were the sort of double fried ones with all the crispy bits on the outside. Definitely a great local spot to visit, I highly recommend. read more

" Super big subs , tasty and fresh " Our trip here wasn't planned. Nevertheless my husband and I were delighted to get subs from here . We got steak and cheese subs . They tasted fresh and were delicious and big . We actually each only ate a half be a use it was so big . This will definitely be our sub shop when in this area . The staff is friendly. The vibe is warm and welcoming. The price is super reasonable for the value . Parking is difficult but manageable. read more

What an amazing family business! If you are staying anywhere around Logan International you have to go here! We had a one night hotel stay at the Revere Hampton Inn but wanted to go out and eat before we settled in for the night. Found S&L Subs on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! They treated like royalty! It's mainly a take out business but we wanted to eat there so we sat at the few stools that were there. We are so glad we did. They brought us samples, talked to us, shared family stories and were the best hosts you could imagine. It was a great send off to our 10 day road trip of the northeast. The food was spectacular! Meatball sub was amazing and the walnut, cranberry chicken salad sub was delicious. The half sandwiches were huge, so be ready for a feast! It's not often in today's world that your expectations are exceeded. I would give them 10 stars if I could. We left feeling like long lost friends! Give them a try! read more

First time at this place. I just moved up here and would pass by this place on the way to work and figured I'd walk in someday. First, the ladies working there are such a charm. They are incredibly nice and I'm glad to hear they've been in business for over 50 years - which is a product of their great food and service. I ordered the imported Italian sub. I generally have high expectations for subs since I grew up eating the best subs where I'm from. This place exceeded my expectations! The sub was terrific! Will definitely make this place a regular visit! read more

One of the, if not THE best, sandwich shops in Boston. These subs are incredible, huge, tasty, and quality. Not to mention Fran and Stephen are some of the most stand up people I've ever had the pleasure of speaking to. If you're in Chelsea, or even downtown, this is the place to go for a sandwich. Oh and did I mention the prices are great. read more

So all day I've been thinking about having an awesome corn beef sandwich. I decided to go to S&L subs. Unfortunately, my day was ruined at 4 PM when I finally arrived at S&L subs. I ordered a corn beef sandwich with a couple extra slices of pickle snd when it arrived. It was hot and cooked. They ruined my corn beef. I was beside myself when a cooked corn beef sandwich came over to my table for $17. I wouldn't have paid two dollars for the sandwich. I mentioned to the young man behind the counter that handed it to me, I said, why did you cook my corn beef? Why is my sandwich hot? A corn beef sandwich at any Jewish deli in the world unless you order a Ruben is a cold sandwich. I went from happy to very sad and disappointed in seconds, I was so excited when I ordered a corn beef sandwich with yellow mustard on a bulky roll and what I got was a makeshift unfinished half a Reuben sandwich, not even Ugh!!! They cooked my corn beef!! If I wanted a hot corn beef sandwich I would've ordered a Reuben so I would've had sauerkraut, cheese and it would've been pressed. This was just a big mistake. . Now for those of you, that don't know the history of the corn beef sandwich, S&L subs in originated years ago with Arthurs Deli before the big Chelsea fire. Then a friend of mine Paul bought a three decker down near the Chelsea mall where the fire originated back in the day. He found the original barrels that where used to cure the corn beef with the original recipe nailed on top of the barrel. He then proceeded to re-open Arthurs deli, which was a staple in Chelsea for the next 20 years until he retired and sold the business to S&L subs. S & L eventually sold that location, but they kept the corn beef recipe and moved the corn beef to their original location on the other side of town. I have frequented this location for corn beef sandwiches and enjoyed them very much for the past couple years. Today I was looking forward to a corn beef sandwich. All day I went in and they just ruined my day. It was the worst corn beef sandwich I've ever had. The young man behind the counter said that's how we make it. No apology nothing. He didn't ask me if I wanted to have it changed for an uncooked sandwich, which if it is the same recipe would have been delicious but I got nothing. No I'm sorry no oh no explanation nothing. When I went outside and was standing out front. There was a young lady that worked there sitting at one of the outdoor tables taking her break. She said hello, I said hello and she happened to ask me if I liked my food and I I let her know that it was the corned beef sandwich ever and that it was cooked. She said they've been doing that for the last eight months. I don't know why they changed And they have taken the one Jewish deli delicacy from around the world and changed it to a cooked well done disgrace of a sandwich. It just doesn't make any sense. Anyway, if you're interested in getting a corn beef sandwich this is totally 1000% not the place anymore. I am beside myself there's a very sad day in Chelsea. read more

I'm never ordering from this place again and I've been eating here for more than 15 years. My sub was messed up for the fourth time and when I asked if they could fix it for me, they were beating around the bush trying to say I didn't put what I wanted when I clearly did. Then they tried saying the cook made it right which he did not. After about 5 minutes of literally arguing with someone on the phone, they told me that I'd have to wait 30 minutes for the driver to come back when I literally live up the street in Chelsea. They said I also had to give them back the wrong sub after waiting for at least 30 minutes when I'm really hungry. When they've previously made mistakes, they'd fix it and would let me keep the mistake sandwich, but now I have to wait and go hungry waiting for their mistake. NEVER AGAIN will I ever order from them again. I wouldn't even give a star but it's the only way I can leave a review. read more

This is a must-visit in Boston. Fran, the owner, is so unbelievably friendly. We got steak and chicken bombs and the amount of food for the price is truly impressive. The subs are probably near or over 16 inches, packed, and delicious. Fran checked in consistently and was extremely accommodating, not only with us but with other customers that we witnessed. They couldn't have put any more chicken and cheese into the chicken bomb (pictured). One thing that was really impressive to me was that even the bread on the sub tasted high quality and was noticeably fresh. While the food truly was incredible, I cannot overemphasize how much Fran's attitude and service made the experience. This is truly the best place to get subs in Boston. read more

Visit S&L several times during the week days. Service, and food outstanding. However, this past weekend was completely different. Extremely disappointed, ordered a sub and a wrap. Was given the incorrect sub and the wrap was made incorrectly. The service was not great. I guess moving forward, I will only visit during the weekdays. read more

Sorry for the late rate boss man ! This place was absolutely wonderful. The subs were delicious and the staff was friendly. The owner and his family took very good care of me and my construction crew and warned me ahead of time how delicious these subs would be! Do NOT get a regular sub if you're not hungry because this establishment gives you more then your money worth. This is absolutely my favorite place to grab a sub! I will definitely be coming back! The owner gave me a free water while I wait on 8 subs and the cashier gave me an extremely friendly conversation and the entire staff was just so cool and interactive! Thank you! read more

Talk about friendly atmosphere and great subs! This is it! So many options to choose from that I already want to go back! Steven, the owner, recognized that I was there for the first time and he comes out with a cup of chili (which was also amazing) and says, "thanks for coming in!" I was telling him that my son and I were in town from Illinois to watch a couple of Celtics games and when I was saying goodbye, he made my son, who wasn't with me, a sandwich too! We stopped here when staying in Boston and it was such a great decision. Not only did you get a good decent sized sandwich for a reasonable price but it was delicious. It was a small mom and pop shop that was welcoming and the staff was very warm and helpful. There was a small bar to sit at but no tables. There were many different people coming in and out to get takeout orders and we realized that it was a takeout heavy place so we got ours to go as well. There were 2 people in front of us, but we waited maybe 10 minutes to get our food !! read more

Fantastic! I tried to order on the delivery services but S&L didn't come up, so I called directly. The lady who answered the phone was a JEWEL! So nice, so helpful and adorable with her BOS accent! I ordered 2 imported Italian subs (no tomatoes) a steak tip salad and fries. The subs were OUT OF THIS WORLD! I was staying at the BOS airport Hilton and the S&L delivery driver was awesome! TIP YOUR DRIVER! Took the subs on my flight (1 was for a coworker) and we were amazed! Unbelievable! We split the salad (Ranch dressing) later and it was the BOMB! Do yourself a favor and eat here! I went in today for the very first time and was met at the counter by a very nice lady with a Boston accent. I had a fun conversation with her. I ordered an Italian sandwich without the bread, like a salad, with everything and hots. I've never had an Italian sandwich this way before but it's been in my mind for the past few days and today was the day that I had to have it. Had the most horrible experience while picking up a sandwich this morning . The employees were very rude . Not just one employee , but two of them . While I was waiting I was looking at my phone and I hear "helllooooo??" I look up and I see a lady holding my order with an upset look as if she was trying to call my attention many times . I call her out on being rude and she didn't want to accept that she was . I tell her "you don't have to be rude, I will give you a bad review on yelp" she didn't care . And I was walking out the door the other lady yelled in front of other 2 customers "get out of here and don't come back". If the owner of the store reads this and would like to talk to me personally . Just leave a comment and i will. read more

So i love myself some steak and cheese Subs I tried them from many places and I feel like daring myself to compare the offerings from as many places as I can . I was looking on this very app looking at the mostly substandard reviews and even worse pictures posted. My expectations were lowered greatly looking at these posts and I have to say I am very happy that they were lowered because I was pleasantly surprised. Many of you complained they didn't put enough ingredients into the sub roll. They must have heard y'all because I got a good ratio. Not only that the roll was fresh and the order was made and delivered fairly quick. And it tasted very good. Not the best ever but it's something I'll order again until they screw it up. Keep up the decent service . Once again sorry for no picture. I'm a big guy with the need to feed , good or bad I will take a picture of the next one from here. read more

Can't say enough about this place... our classic Italian sub was amazing, fresh & HUGE. The service was fast and friendly. We sat at the counter and ate our subs and had the nicest conversation with Steven, the owner, who talked about his family and his business (that's been in the family for 50+ years). Yuuuummmmm! From Texas where it has been said that everything is bigger. Well let me give my 2 cents when it comes to subs. S & L has 'em and boy can they make 'em. Gotta be 30 inches long. We ordered one the day we landed and again they day we departed Boston. The folks are very friendly and helpful if you have any questions about what's on the menu. One of the guys even gave me a heads up when my car was about to get ticketed for parking on the side of the street during street cleaning time. He saw the parking enforcement car pull up. Just in time. Taking this sun back to TX to share. read more

The place is very small, but there was a steady flow of people coming in, ordering, waiting a few minutes for their food and going on their merry way. They make it work. There are only a few stools inside for eating in, but they've got a few tables right out front for the nice weather. I ordered the breakfast grilled cheese with avocado added on, as well as an iced coffee. The coffee wasn't really anything to write home about for me, but I was really there for the sandwich. I grabbed my order and sat at one of the tables outside. Upon unwrapping the sandwich, it looked delectable at first glance. It had a decent cheese pull when I picked up the first half. For the first bite or two it seemed like everything inside worked together in harmony; that is until I realized that the bacon wasn't crispy. Not like it was just a little chewy on the ends, but legitimately undercooked on at least one side. To me, not many things are more dissatisfying than biting into gelatinous, underdone bacon. Not sure if this makes me nitpicky, but it kind of ruined the sandwich for me since I ultimately ended up picking about half of the bacon out. If the bacon was crispy or otherwise cooked more evenly, this surely would've been a knockout sandwich and the experience as a whole would've been worth at least four stars for me. Sunny Girl really seems to have a lot going for them; a good location, fresh ingredients, a loyal and ever growing customer base, an overall good concept. I genuinely want to like the place and my hope is that I just happened to catch them on an off day. It might be a little while before I return for another try, but if and when I do, I'll most likely end up trying a different sandwich and will also have to make a point to ask for extra crispy bacon.

The turkey was fresh and flavorful, and it was complemented by stuffing, cranberry sauce, spinach, pepper jack cheese, and just enough chipotle mayo to add an unexpected kick, without overwhelming everything else. It's one of those combinations that sounds busy on paper but comes together remarkably well. I spoke with several others over lunch, and they were equally impressed with their choices. That's always a good sign when you're feeding a crowd. It's one thing to make a great sandwich to order; it's another to deliver dozens of them catered while maintaining that level of quality. Since this was catered, I can't really comment on the restaurant itself. The service on the catering side, however, was evident in how thoughtfully everything was prepared and packaged, and the rooftop setting where we enjoyed lunch certainly didn't hurt.
