Top Shelf: 3 slices of every Italian meat in the deli case
Matt P.

New Deal Fruit is widely known on the North Shore for having the best sandwiches around. This place is, at its heart, a market with fresh vegetables and fruits, dairy products, specialty breads, imported Italian products (including 200 different styles of dry pasta), and most importantly, a deli. Their menu includes 40 different specialty sandwiches, overwhelming to even choose, but for my first trip to New Deal Fruit, I knew I had to go with the Top Shelf: 3 slices of every Italian meat in the deli case. Plus chopped tomatoes, pickles, and onions lathered with oil, vinegar, and seasonings. The size is pretty large and you can get at least two meals out of it. They slice all the meats fresh so expect a bit of a wait, especially around lunch time or the weekends when everyone is looking to get subs. With so many other subs on their menu to try, I'm looking forward to going back soon.

New Deal Fruit makes one of the best Italian subs I've had anywhere in Massachusetts. The bread was fresh and perfectly soft with just the right crust, while the meats and provolone were sliced perfectly and packed with flavor. The toppings tasted incredibly fresh, and the oil dressing tied everything together perfectly. You can tell they care about quality and consistency. The shop has an old-school neighborhood feel that adds to the experience. Friendly service, generous portions, and an Italian sub that absolutely lives up to the reputation.

Chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella and what felt like a pound of prosciutto and broccoli rabe. Seriously good sandwich.

I walked in feeling like it was a local place and they knew I wasn't local. When it was my turn to order my sandwiches I knew one for sure that I wanted and then I wanted to try an Italian, but I wasn't sure which one to get (there feels like 1 million choices) to get so I asked the gentleman behind the counter to make me one that he would like, and he went for it the sandwiches were humongous. The produce was super interesting as well as the dry pasta choices! I left with Spaghettio shaped pasta to make it home and a little Guanciale to make an amatriciana sauce. They had fresh figs at the front counter. I got those on my way out as well as a big meaty local tomato. Gentleman that worked there offered to open the door to my car to help me pack up personally it was one of the better experiences I've had since coming back to the East Coast . This place is an inside secret that's pretty well known and they will make you feel like a regular at the moment you get in there I will go back again .

There are plenty of sandwiches to choose from, I would recommend looking at the menu a head of time. It gets very busy, the grocery store side has decent prices. I got the Italian, you get your basic Italian cold cuts on a soft roll with all the fixings with oil and vinegar. Very good sandwich. I was hoping to try one of the sandwiches with the rabe but they were all out of rabe at the time.

More than just a deli. The sandwiches are a hit. It was busy when we went but they are super fast. Everyone is friendly and courteous. The owner is a super nice also. We got our sandwiches and headed home. Took a bite and I was sold. When in the area this has to be a stop. I came prepared as they have som many selections. The ratio of bread to meat was awesome. Very bite was full of flavor. I'd recommend adding this to your list of stops while in the area.

Half the Italian sub on a seeded roll with everything.

I grabbed a Mediterranean sandwich which is lots of warm chix cutlets with feta cheese, lettuce and tomato. I added balsamic glaze which they gave me lots of. Menu was updated with new prices. Friendly service and always a great place to be with lots of fresh imported produce and specialties from Italy and other countries.

Italian Sub

This place is amazing, we were visiting the Boston area and we had to try this place. This was the BEST Italian sub that I have in my life, keep in mind I'm from Houston. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was what I expected out of an Italian grocery store!!

Holy moly I may come back to this place for just the dry pasta! But next time I will try a sub! The line was so long, they must be fantastic! We were staying nearby here and just happened upon the store. We ended up buying a bunch of dry pasta, Spumoni, and other treats. All of the staff were so friendly asking if we needed help, making recommendations. Parking lot is right in the front with enough room to turn around kind of on the sidewalk area so you don't have to back up into the busy road.

I came here not expecting much, I had seen the TikTok videos and we thought it would be fun to have lunch here. What actually happened is that this sandwich changed my life. Forever from now on until the end of time anytime that I have a sandwich I'm going to go this is good but it's not new deal fruit good. I wonder if there is a way that I can just have these sandwiches delivered to Washington State like overnight, or If I have to fly out to Boston once a week in order to have a decent sandwich. The sandwich was not the only great thing that we had with include one of these giant pickles that they have as well as a huge pepperoni stick that I only got a few bites out of before we had to rush out of the hotel room and then I left it there and now I'm really mad at myself because I left it there. So go to New deal fruit. Get a sandwich. Be forever changed and have all of their sandwiches ruined for the rest of your life we can start a club.

Awesome Italian grocery, deli and sandwich shop near the airport. We always stop on our way back to Maine to get subs and goodies. They also sell fresh produce. Our fave is the special Italian. Free parking in front of store. No dine in eating area its more grocery like but they sell chips and drinks to go.
