So all in all I'd like to start by giving them this verbal (ehhh textual) 3.5 stars. This being the second time I've tried them out, both times parked over at Two Roads brewing, I've gotta say that this might be the slowest, most poorly stocked truck I've ever eaten out of... The truck seems poorly managed in general but the sandwiches being pumped out, or trickled out, really are pretty darn good. Portion size is well up there with the price point and they taste great. Am I going to chase after them on the highway and stalk out their next location? Heck no, though I probably wouldn't do that for any other truck either... Wait a minute, I think I sorta have, never-mind. This time around after waiting on a line of about 8 people for a 25 minutes and then another ten minutes just waiting for the guy to write my order down, and another 20 minutes to get the damn thing made, I had it, the Reuben Cuban... But no fries, apparently the guy before me got the last bit of potato. No biggie, I get that it's a busy brewery and people gotta eat. Not much else around so the truck really was swamped. As a business I think they could use some no-brainer streamlining, hell get rid of the empanada, it's out of place anyway, or trim the menu, I don't know, but I've never waited an hour for food out of any truck before. Seriously took a large chunk of time out of the day. Otherwise the thing was good, I think it needed a better pastrami flavor as the pulled pork sort of overwhelmed the thing and that officiallay makes up half the sandwiches on the board, with a BBQ pulled pork and a Cuban, made with bacon... Just seems off. Overall a good deal for good food and you should try it because nothing else in the area will be better. I'm just thinking the redundancy makes for a smaller variety... Surprised to see only one other review for this amazing food truck. They have been around NH for six months and offer a small, but hearty menu including cuban sandwiches, pulled pork, chicken, ribs, burgers, fries, and empanadas. They rotate locations around the city, so best to check their facebook page for daily updates. Prices are reasonable for the huge portions. I wanted to try a side of fries or an empanada which were each $3, but my pulled pork on a brioche bun with apple slaw ($8) was perfectly filling, so I will wait until the next time they are parked in my neighborhood (random Saturdays at the Sunoco gas station on the corner of Route 80 and Quinnipiac Ave). You have a choice of 4 bbq sauces on your pulled pork (I opted for spicy) and the tenderness and taste of the pork was not overpowered by the sauce, but added a nice compliment to the apple slaw which was offered as a side or on the sandwich. It didn't take long for the Meat Truck to be the talk of the town - or at least the downtown New Haven lunch crowd - once it started parking regularly on Church Street at least once a week. First I heard about the fries that are seasoned with brown sugar and cajun seasoning and amazing. I was already sold, and then I kept hearing people rave about the sandwiches and giant empanadas. I finally found a day when the truck was parked outside, when the line wasn't too long, and when I didn't already pack a lunch (it's a trifecta of factors), and I got the Cuban with fries. For $10, I walked away with a very heavy styrofoam box filled to the brim with culinary glory. The Cuban was made with juicy, flavorful pulled pork, crispy bacon, melted Swiss, half sour pickle slices, and a delicious cilantro dijon mayo that brought it all together on perfectly pressed bread. The seasoning on the fries was almost like the seasoning on barbecue chips, and it went perfectly with the flavors of the sandwich. I want to try everything on the menu, but I'm not sure if I will ever order anything other than the Cuban because it's so good. Everything from the Meat Truck is made to order, so there can be a bit of a wait, but it is worth it. After stalking the website for a good week and a half, my coworker and I finally found the Meat Truck in Science Park on a Friday at lunchtime. The day's menu included so many choices, I almost panicked. A cheesesteak?! Pulled pork?! A Reuben Cuban?! (That will be my next meal from this truck.) In the end, I opted for the brisket with fried onions, and a side of seasoned fries. My coworker had originally wanted the bacon cheeseburger, but he pulled an audible and went for the cheesesteak and a side of bacon mac & cheese. It was fortuitous that we got there early, since as soon as we finished ordering, other hungry Yaleies swarmed around the truck. When the guy called our names, I was surprised at the sheer amount of food. I ate the brisket with a fork and knife - there was so much that I didn't even eat the bread, and we barely put a dent in the two sides. My coworker kept raving about how it was the best cheesesteak he'd ever had. The bacon mac & cheese was made with maple bacon and it was such a delicious surprise, we ate as much as we could (and we still couldn't finish). The sandwiches are anywhere from $6-$8, and the sides are $3, which is more than reasonable for the amount of food you receive. I think my department is taking a field trip there next week - assuming we can find the truck's location. If you stumble upon it, I recommend getting food even if you aren't hungry - it's worth it. read more

They say everything is better with bacon. That is certainly true of the pressed Cuban sandwich at The Meat Truck, a fairly new addition to the food truck scene in New Haven that a fellow Yelper clued me in to. I'm not usually a fan of Cuban sandwiches and don't typically order them but this one sounded so good I thought, why not give it a shot? So glad that I did. The marinated pork in this sandwich is unusually tender and moist. There is no dryness in it whatsoever, which is a major deal for me. So many times marinated pork can get slightly overdone and quickly dry out and lose it's flavor. Not here. Combine this excellent simmered pork with a creative cilantro Dijon mayo, (very impressive) cucumber slices, (not pickles) bacon and a nicely pressed ciabatta bun and you've got yourself one heck of a sandwich. I'd never seen bacon as part of a Cuban sandwich before but it works great as an apparent stand-in for the usual Serrano ham. They also offer this with pastrami instead of bacon. I had to pass up the half-pound bacon cheddar cheeseburger with caramelized onions but somebody behind me in line ordered one and it was enormous. Definitely a must try on a future visit. For an appetizer, I tried the beef empanada for just $3.00. Could not believe how big this was. Definitely enough to split with someone else. The filling of ground beef was studded with pimento olives for a surprisingly salty touch. Very satisfying and not at all greasy. The food truck world is an exploding industry that is growing every day. The Meat Truck is certainly a welcome addition to the field. The owner, Jose, said they would be participating in the upcoming CT food truck festivals this spring and summer. Can't wait to see what else they are cooking up on their rotating menu.
