They were early in taking restrictive measure--even before CMS required them. They have been transparent and communicated with families frequently. It was inevitable, given their location in Northern Virginia, that there would be COVID cases--especially since many staff work at least 2 jobs including at other facilities. Tall Oaks gave direct care staff a raise and asked them to limit their work to this single facility. Tall Oaks seems to have managed the COVID cases well, working closely with the Fairfax County Health Dept. Yes--there have been some deaths (inevitable in this population), but cases have been limited to fewer than 10% of their population. My 99-year-old parents have been safe, with no cases among residents or staff reported on their floor. My parents have lived at Tall Oaks for over 7 years. There have been many staff changes and although I've never been concerned for their safety, management and care has been variable, with current staff returning quality to the level it was when they moved in. Yes--I've had some complaints and frustrations over the years, mostly related to staff not taking responsibility for issues or not following through on commitments, but these kinds of issues have mostly disappeared in recent years as staff has changed. If I had to find a residence for my parents again, I would definitely choose Tall Oaks Assisted Living.

After hiring a consultant who was familiar with many of the options available to us in the Northern Virginia area they compiled a list. After reviewing the list, we started at the very top. Tysons Woods was at the top of the list. We called and scheduled a tour of your location on Central Avenue. Upon entering the location, all of your employees we encountered were very friendly and knowledgeable of the potential needs my wife may require after a brief history was shared. One tip we were given by our consultant was to be aware of any smells when we visited the home. Smells of uncleanliness or cleaning products used to cover bad smells were a warning sign. To our pleasant surprise, we did not find any objectionable smells, no smells of cleaning products, just the smell of fresh cooking food on the stove preparing for lunch. The home looked impeccably clean and neat. When meeting some of the other residents, they looked just as neat. They were clean, dressed in clean clothes, and enjoying their day in the living room. They were cooking lunch and the place smelled wonderful. No boxes or frozen meals here, just good home cooking. We decided to place her in your care and we are very happy with our decision. She was very well cared for. She was always dressed in clean clothes, her undergarments were clean and dry. She really enjoyed the food at your place. We never questioned her safety while at your facility. We rested well knowing that you all were taking care of her. You would be doing a disservice to your loved one if you did not go and check out Tysons Woods as a possibility.

I think it's pretty safe to say it's a one of a kind (if not the only) non-profit organization / facility that allows you to drop off your child(ren) with special needs, for a day or two on the weekend to allow the parents some time of respite. Absolutely love their mission and the fact that they care specifically for an otherwise marginalized population. They have three "lodges" each with 10 rooms (half singles, half doubles), outdoor playground, pool, indoor gymnasium, chapel, a variety of rooms for computers, music, arts & crafts, sensory stimulation and quite rooms. And practically everything has a theme. It really does look like a kids' paradise...and hopefully it will be. You'll need to register on their website to utilize their services.

From the carefully thought-out interior decor to the doting, compassionate staff, Jill's House is one of the most tangible manifestations of love for a group of children often overlooked by the general public. Jill's House is an overnight respite home for special-needs children. For the kids, it's like a fun sleepover - there's a music room with musical instruments, sing-a-long DVDs, and space to dance, a technology room with touch-screen computers, an art room, a gym, an indoor pool, a playground, and nature-themed "pods" with more games, puzzles, toys, video games, and even a movie screen (tell me you didn't have to take a breath in between reading that list). For the hard-working parents (for whom I have such great respect and admiration), it's a chance for them to have a night to themselves. Furthermore, Jill's House is an incredibly safe place for these children. The intake coordinators are very detailed in recording each individual child's diet restrictions, medical concerns, and methods of communication. They also make sure to give the parents (and the child) a tour of the facility beforehand. The intake coordinators, then, propagate all of this information to the staff who work directly with the children. Now, the staff are a group of people who are not only efficient caretakers, but are also genuinely loving people. It's apparent that the children quickly form bonds with the staff and recognize them when they return. It's heartwarming to witness. I could go on and on, but (as another review has pointed out) it might be easier to just visit the website or call. Ultimately, this facility houses an amazing group of workers and a precious group of kids.

My parents moved there about 12 years ago when my mother's Alzheimer's was making it too challenging for my father to care for her. He moved into independent living (where, at the age of 90, he is still living with my stepmother), and my mother moved into skilled nursing. She received wonderful care there and was treated with respect. When she passed away, the staff on her floor cried and showed us great compassion. One of the things I'm most impressed with are the many activities planned there. Recently they had a Moroccan festival, where they learned about the culture and customs. They had Moroccan food at dinner that night, and they even brought in belly dancers. The units are nicely appointed and maintained. The entire building and grounds are lovely. The staff is friendly, making a point of getting to know the residents. It's comforting to know my father is living in a place where he is safe and will be well cared for.

It was unreal the the excuses, the stupidity and incompetence of people on all levels there from the director of the entire place down to the hairdresser and telephone operator. Ask for information on what services are provided in assisted living they can't provide you with one. *See Angies list for similar experiences as mine. * They like to blame family members for being difficult because you expect the nurses to do their job. For example bathing, clothing not on backwards, proper medication, getting the person down to get their hair done, being treated with respect by physical therapy. Doctors who can't call you back, who have medications being refilled at all different times and amounts. If you want to put your entire fortune down with this place and then continue to pay $5000 a month as well for a place that doesn't have enough staff or proper oversight, management, or procedures come here. Oh, and they also like to use the excuse -- well you know it's the memory - using that to blame or make excuses for their staff who do not do their jobs. One time my family member was waiting for the hair dresser to come pick her up. She say and sat. Thevstaff ciuldnt take tge time to see her sitting on the couch there and tell her they werent coming. The whole management of assisstedbliving which is full of memory issue people is confusing bevause there is no oversiggt, lead nurse, lead manager actively making sure things are done right. And i dont think there thirld world staff is trained well at all in how to deal with memory issue patients. And as for doctors they misdiagnosed what was wrong with my family member giving her medication that made things worse. It's not a good place.

Before the move took place, we had a great meeting with owner Joey Lynch-Flohr who explained that he came up with the idea for Cobbdale when his own grandmother's health started to decline. The houses that he has built are beautiful, and perfectly equipped for each resident, as well as featuring a beautiful sunroom where family members can visit with their loved ones. Meals are created by a professional chef off-site and then prepared daily by the house staff. For the private room/bathroom: You furnish the room as you want it for your loved one, and they work with Hospice / Medicare to bring in special equipment - such as a hospital bed, if needed. Our mom's room was large, with two walls of windows, and plenty of room for 2 dressers, a TV, bed, nightstand, and recliner chair. Her bathroom was equally large with a walk-in shower. As for the staff, I can't begin to exclaim how wonderful they all are - and overseen by Atta (nursing) and Gabi (household). The kindness, compassion, and love shown by all of the Cobbdale staff to our Mom in her dying days is something that I will never forget and always appreciate. The nurse is very knowledgeable and can't do enough and also guides the family through the troubled waters of aging. The owner has developed a 3 small 8 residents homes with high standards in the industry. Several days through the week appropriate activities or games or movie afternoons, or bingo etc are offered. I enjoy the beautiful home like setting and taking my husband into the sunroom or outdoor side porch. So grateful I found this private assisted living. I am sleeping nights again ad worry less.
