Order at the counter. There's as couple outside tables. Clean. As for my review, I'll go back and try the shawarma. It's reasonably priced and in a good location. These flavors are hard to come by in Madison. I'd like more seasoning and perhaps some heat. I encourage the owners to deploy a kitchen that their grandmother would be prouder of. I've been looking for good falafel since I came to Madison a couple years ago. I have now found it! The falafel was light and moist and very tasty. Wow. This place was OUTSTANDING. All of our food was amazing, I loved the meza plate - I don't think I can pick a favorite of the 3 appetizers we chose. The chicken shawarma was really well-seasoned. They were also offering free water bottles which I really loved. The service was great, they had good recommendations and a positive vibe, which I loved. The restaurant is cozy and cool. Had a dine-in gyro wrap earlier this week. Was phenomenal! Today, I had the same but take out. It was terrible! The meat was not seasoned and there was no tzatziki sauce. It was a very bland wrap. So disappointed! I am very frugal and eat out rarely so I was so disappointed that I wasted my money. I would like to try them again because I always hear positive things, but after today's experience, I am very hesitant. I just ordered a gyro plate and a side of baba ghanoush, online through a third-party. This was suppose to be a treat as it has been a long week. When I received the food, I started with the salad first, and did not realize that it was actually absolutely slimy and disgusting, which in turn made me lose my appetite. The third-party did not help to resolve the issue, after I spoke to the owner- by calling the restaurant per the third-party directions, who agreed and said, I would get a refund for the meal. I told the owner I did not need a refund for the baba ghanoush, but certainly for the meal. Once confirmed with the third-party to get a refund by the owner, I was told I would be refunded for the baba ghanoush, but not the meal! Phone calls to the restaurant were ignored with my number as well as phone calls from the third-party. It is clear the owner is not trying to make anything right! He straight up lied to me. I tried to call back once more and the owner acted like he could not hear me and hung up! WOW!!! The owner is as nasty as the lettuce he sent! Wow, I'm really surprised when I pulled up the Yelp page to see all of these 1-star reviews, because my experience was quite the opposite. We came in on Sunday, shortly around the lunch rush. Ambiance is nothing too special, which is what we expected given it's a pay-at-the-counter kind of place! We placed our orders, and the food came out rapidly, and it was fresh. We started with the Mezze plate, where we choose 3 - we did greek fries, grape leaves, and the yogurt dip, which came with some fluffy pita. All three of these things were so tasty! Greek fries we fresh, crunchy, and hot. The grape leaves were pleasantly acidic and on par for most grape leaves I've had. The yogurt dip was creamy and also perfectly acidic, and I liked the nuts in there, too. No complaints there. For my entree, I had the kofta place - the kofta were piping hot, appropriately juicy, and seasoned just right (not too salty, not underseasoned either). It is served with a mayo/tzaziki/herb situation, and then I loved the side salad that it comes with. I feel like these salads can go unforgotten, but this one felt thoughtfully prepared, with a nice blend of greens, softened onions, and tomato. For the folks who were unimpressed, maybe consider trying dine-in instead of takeout - I know that I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for Mediterranean food that is fast-casual! read more

Having been on a Mediterranean food kick lately, I wanted to check out this new spot to see how it would be. We must've showed up during a busy time because the place was packed. They were also backed up with take out orders. Looking back, I definitely wish we would have ordered ahead of time! We ended up waiting a little less than 30 minutes for our food but we were understanding with how busy they were. They ended up being out of gyro meat when we ordered which was a bit of a disappointment. We settled for the beef kabab wrap instead. The meat was definitely not trimmed as there were many fatty parts making it tough to chew. My chicken shawarma plate was tasty but I felt a bit overpriced for the amount of food I got. The serving sizes inside looked much bigger compared to my takeout order which cost the same at $16.99. We really loved their tzatziki sauce and may have just came at a bad time. My guess was with all the orders, the staff may have been rushed. Opening a new restaurant can't be an easy task I imagine, but I think this place has great potential! I recently went to The Mediterranean Joint after seeing articles about them when they first opened. The Joint is family-owned and opened August 2023. The location features high-top tables and regular tables for 2-4 guests, but could be combined for larger parties. We started with the hummus and pita bread appetizer. They don't give you a ton of bread at a time, but you can ask for more, which you will likely need because it comes with a lot of hummus - which was delicious! I then tried the chicken kebab plate. "Plates" come with a salad and rice. The homemade tzatziki sauce was to die for, and the chicken was too. I really enjoyed this but would love to try the other protein options. I will definitely be back to The Joint again because I loved the food, but I'm giving them 4 stars because I felt that the food was a little pricey for what you get and besides them bringing out your food, there is very minimal table service. read more

My sisters and I go out to eat every month. This is our favorite go to place. Food is great and service has bee outstanding.

Nice ambiance. We did take out, but they gave us a piece of baklava while we waited, which was delicious. A little slow on initial service, as we arrived pre-rush hour and two of the employees were having lunch. Plus side, good to know they eat their own food! Shwarma wrap was good but a little more greasy than I would like. Fresh veg elements were nice. Portions were generous. They package in a leak-proof container, which was good. The food here is incredible. Every dish is bursting with flavor! Perfectly spiced, beautifully balanced, and clearly made with care. The chicken, beef and gyros are tender and juicy, and their tzatziki sauce with garlic is so good it honestly deserves its own spotlight. Don't even get me started on the Greek fries, crispy, seasoned with paprika and herbs, topped with parsley and just the right amount of mild feta. They're addictive. And the desserts? The waiter was warm, helpful, and told us the place is run by a Turkish family, which explains the rich, layered flavors and authentic vibe. The Mediterranean Joint is a very welcome addition to the Madison food scene! They just opened, so they are still settling into their rhythm, but nevertheless the service was fast, the staff very friendly and welcoming, and they had good recommendations for the indecisive. The location had a nice informal old-school cafe vibe. Everything we tried was absolutely top-notch. By the time we arrived, they were already nearly sold out of their beef kebab, but they were kind enough to give us a little sample of it. I have eaten a lot of beef kebab (in Europe and the Middle East), and this was easily the best. The beef was insanely juicy, succulent, and flavorful. Highly recommended! We had the hummus appetizer with sides of yogurt sauce and baba ghanoush. The Yogurt sauce was thick and creamy, and the baba ghanoush was homestyle - rough and chunky, but with all the smoky flavor you could hope for in a good baba ghanoush. But the hummus was utterly sublime - seriously, try it and you'll be blown away. It came with some nice, fresh pita wedges. For our entrees, we tried the falafel plate and the chicken shawarma plate. The chicken was very good, nicely grilled, and the falafel was amazing. I don't know if this is the typical Turkish style of falafel or if is their own style, but I absolutely loved it. The texture was almost more like pakora than a conventional falafel. It was super crispy, but with an almost creamy interior (not at all like the sandy texture of typical falafel). I went a couple of times when they first opened and it was. Went today for lunch and was shocked at how bad the food was. They seem to haves replaced their lavash bread with a (stale) tortilla. The falafel was cold and greasy. The salad filling was paltry, limp, heavy on red onion while light on any tomato. And the fries were also greasy and so salty that they were inedible. Everything we have tried has been excellent - the only note I have is that the chicken shawarma wrap is delicious, but the juices in it can make the bread a little soggy/drippy when you're eating it, but very tasty regardless! I'll probably stick with the plate, especially when getting takeout. Not pictured, but the gyro meat we had was also incredible- really unique taste you won't find anywhere else in the area as far as I'm aware! And even better, they're generally open later than other restaurants in Madison for the times you need some good late-night food that isn't pizza :) Everyone working there is always very friendly, too! read more
