Ok, let's see, after my first review, I have been at this little restaurant sooo many times, I got to the conclusion they have the best gyros in town :) And I also noticed by accident (somebody ordered it when I was there) that they have Gyro burguers, I was like, do you mean that your yummy lamb can be stacked in a bun besides pita?? OMG, I have to try it next time. Three days after, I accomplished my goal and oh man, I LOVED it. Imagine this: A soft grilled bun 2 patties (beef and lamb), cheddar cheese ketchup, mustard, mayo lettuce, tomatoes and pickles And getting to the specific, the bun it's grilled and soft, both meats are grilled (for the lamb, you have to request to be grilled, trust me, you get crispy bites you won't forget). It kind of reminds me of a big mac but in a 10 times better version, plus you get a bonus, it's homemade! For me, it is such a pleasure to eat it I don't want to finish it. I have never seen a Gyro restaurant in a shopping mall's court yard before... so of course I ate here! I ordered the Gyro Burger and noticed a tray of baklava (naturally, I ordered one of those as well). Now, the only problem I had with Gyro Express was that I didn't feel like my food came in an 'express'-like manner. It was slow and in a food court... slow is BAD! But, I saw them cut meat off the roast, so I know my meal was fresh to order (is that the correct phrase?). The only other place in that food court that takes a while to complete your order is Steak Escape. The Gyro Burger was outstanding, if I wasn't in a hurry... I'd say it was 'worth the wait.' Now, that baklava... that was AH-Mazing! It was a huge piece, first of all. It was delicious, second of all. And third of all, the pastry portion was flaky. It may have been the best baklava I've ever had and will definitely entice me to stop back for more (even if that ends up being the only reason... a craving for baklava). read more

Curious I just wrote a different review without reading this and I used the word serviceable for gyros like Garrett :) I too have been searching for a long time for gyros. These are some of the better in Madison. They keep it in a liquid vs on the spit that seems to keep it a bit moister. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have it cut off the spit, but this is where we are at in Madison Wisconsin. They have a nice hot sauce, make sue to ask for it. Tzatziki could use some work. Way better than your typical mall food! I had the gyro with rice with extra meat. The meat portion was more than generous! It wasn't the most succulent gyro meat but pretty darn good and about the same as Parthenon on State. The tzatziki sauce was thick but delicious. The rice was just okay. The sauce selection out front is not custom sauces but a hot sauce (probably Franks), and a BBQ sauce (probably Heinz) and a "mild" sauce that tasted like a mild Franks. read more

(original review, 3 stars) Thought I'd give this place a try, as there doesn't appear to be any viable gyro joints in a decent radius of the south/southeast side of Madison. Long story short, it's a serviceable gyro place if you're jonsin', but would recommend others if they're a viable option, location-wise. Ordering online was quick and painless, and I didn't have to wait at all for my food. I knew exactly what I was getting, and received exactly what I ordered: I ordered a take-out lunch portion of the gyro plate and fries, with an extra side of sauce. The fries were absolutely killer; the best part of the meal. The "plate" itself was essentially a build-your-own gyro kit, with enough of everything for two gyros. The pitas were not as fresh/soft as I'd prefer, and the lamb was plenty, flavorful, though quite dry and hard. The portions of tomatoes and onions were pretty small (I love them heaped on), while the tzatziki sauce was essentially flavored, very thick sour cream. On the whole, this was a serviceable attempt, but I've had better. However, I would return to get my gyro fix in the future, and can only hope some of the items improve. EDIT: Just returned from my second attempt at carryout. Aside from a small snafu in the online ordering process, this was a 5 star experience. Everything was much fresher, especially the lamb, while the tzatziki sauce was actually a great representation of "sauce" this time around. Will definitely return. read more

Gyros are simple enough, and they're delicious when the ingredients are right. Not the case here. Lots of liquid dripped out which told me the meat came from a bin. The sauce was less tzatziki and more cheap sour cream. The pita was not very fresh. Try the other menu items instead. read more

Last night I grabbed a chicken shawarma meal here. I asked for the rice instead of fries. The meal was an extra $2.00 because of the rice which unfortunately wasn't as flavorful as it's been in the past. The chicken shawarma was dry with no sauce and the "vegetable side" was iceberg lettuce with tomatoes. I was very disappointed considering I paid 11.50 (that include my drink which doesn't come with the meal). It also came with 2 tablespoons of hummus. When I was asked if I wanted Tzatziki sauce and I said yes, I was told I already have hummus (that I didn't ask for) and then reluctantly given the sauce... it's sauce. The chicken was EXTREMELY dry to the point where it was just over cooked crumbles. The food took a good 10 mins I was extremely disappointed as I frequently purchase chicken shawarma at other local establishments and it's amazing and no more than $8.00 for a side and drink.. I will never order this meal there again. read more

A generous portion of meat, topped with thin sliced tomato and rough cut onion, topped with a sprinkle of parsley. I get mine with sauce on the side, which was nice and cucumber-y. Ask for well done to get it crisped up on the grill. FYI, fries were of the coated, frozen type and...not good. Get an extra pita for a $1.00 if you need some more starch. I was moderately happy with my order here. I ordered baklava and the veggie plate which comes with grilled seasoned tomatoes, green pepper, shredded carrots and onion, and rice. The baklava was pretty good, your typical baklava. The veggie plate was ok, but a little too vineger-y / pickled for my taste. I don't know how they prepared the vegetables but it was just a little too acidic for me. It probably would have been a good side to a main dish but was too overwhelming for an entree. read more

Ordered a gyro extra meat. Wasn't worth the extra charge for not much more meat. At least not what I'm used to. Gyro had a couple pieces of "fresh" meat on top of a handful of overdone rubbery chunks. Best part of the sandwich was the bread. read more

For a mall place this is absolutely great. To be honest I've been waiting for this place to open up since they've announced it and I was not disappointed. The prices are cheap ($6 for a giant gyro, $6 for a 4 pc fried chicken meal with fries) and the food is above average for sure. I agree with Rose that the gyros do not seem as greasy as other gyros that I've had, which makes the food taste slightly lighter. I have yet to try the other items of their extensive menu with everything from Italian beef sandwiches and burgers to chicken gyros and kebabs (with fried okra and fried chicken being next on my bucket list). Sure, it's not fine dining, but for a few bucks this is as good as mall-based fast food gets. It's only been a week since they've opened. I imagine they'll do well. Just hope they don't jack up the prices or start being stingy with the prices. The guys there are very friendly as well. read more

This is my first time try Greek food and it was great! I ordered lamb gryo with salad and French fries for $8.34 in total. There is so much lamb and I love lamb! The bread they put underneath is soft and tasty as well. Gryo is yummy and in good price, and you can get Frenchfries for 1.99 and soda for 0.99. I enjoy my Greek lunch with GryoExpress. read more

A rare and amazing dining experience awaits you at the food court in West Town Mall at this location. I have finally found Madison's best gyro location and it is in West Towne Mall's food court. The lamb meat is perfectly cooked and retains just the right amount of moisture without being too moist and is never over dry. The Baklava is amazing. My only issue with the location is they put the fries in to-go containers a bit too quickly which causes the fries to melt and fuse with a little bit of the styrofoam which can be toxic. However the fries that were not completely melded with the styrofoam were actually pretty good. read more

Some good things, some not so good, and bottom line is that my gyro was not so good. The good part is that they provided plenty of meat (lamb) and it was cooked well, was tender, and not greasy. And they lived up their name by delivering at food court speed. The bad part is the overall taste. In particular, what passed at tzatziki was bland, thin, and runny, and I think they just passed the essence of cucumbers over it. Not many tomatoes or onions for the double-sized plate that I ordered. Very filling and inexpensive, but not a gustatory treat. read more
