I should preface this by saying I used to work for a food company out east, so I know how these…read morethings run. When I relocated out to California, I decided I would see if there was any food services in the area, and I happened upon Family Choice Foods. I scheduled an appointment, and the gentlemen that came over was indeed on time, and very polite. What I noticed right off the bat was the selection of the food they had, was at least 4 times the size of the company I had worked for back back east, and I thought we had everything. Secondly, I was informed that the packing material that they use is entirely corn based (no harmful BPAs), that was new for me (must be a Cali health conscious thing). Third, and most unbelievable to me, was their guarantee. The gentlemen sat and told me that if for any reason I wasn't happy, even if I burned something... they would replace the item for me (wait, what?). So I asked him to repeat that, and he reassured me I had heard correctly. I was in. What he explained to me was that the company was less like a supermarket, and more like a full service restaurant, except you do the cooking yourself. "If anything is wrong, or you don't like something, you just ring us up and we make it right." Hmmmm... interesting. About a week or so after, my delivery came. Here comes the 4th surprise, the quality of the food. The food looked beautiful in the packaging it arrived in, and when I cooked up my first dish (Rib Steaks), the meat just melted in my mouth. It was probably one of the better ribsteaks I have had in recent memory. Time passed, and about 2 months in, it happened. I found a shell steak that for some reason... just didn't quite taste right. So... I played the card I was dealt, and called up to customer service. I told the person on the phone, "Your representative told me....." Sure enough, in about 3 minutes they rectified the issue, and on my next order I was credited not only for the shell steak, but for another one on top of it for the inconvenience. Really? Yes really. The freezer is a worthy investment because if you have their freezer and something goes wrong with it, or if there is an earthquake, they actually replace every single item you lost to spoilage. When you live in the earthquake anus of the world, that comes in handy. Thankfully it hasn't happened but when you buy in wholesale quantity around here, that kind of reassurance helps you not to worry if for any reason it did. I'm a little bit surprised at some of these reviews. In all honesty I think they're much better than I anticipated they would be. If you look at my prior reviews, you'll see I have no problem clobbering a business that deserves it. But this company has been real good to me. Back east, the food service I worked for charged roughly 30% more for the freezer they offered, it was not commercial grade, and if you had a power outage and called for replacements, the owner would think you were on medication or needed to be. This company has always treated me with respect and courtesy (then again I'm never rude to them). The portioning, the service, the quality... I really have no beefs (see what I did there?), so I'll probably continue shopping with them when this order (my 3rd one now) is done.

Everyone talks about the convenience of food in the $4,000 freezer (that you are required to…read morepurchase or they won't guarantee their food). But food services are a dime a dozen. Why this company gets 1 star? They're cheats. A couple times they shorted our order and promised me they would "catch us up"on the next order and never did. I should've gotten that in writing. Then, in lieu of a "loyalty discount", I opted for their professional grade cookware (pots, pans, knives). A few thousand later, and I'm still paying on it and it's literally falling apart. The handles are falling apart, the knobs on the lids are just as bad. (Pictures to follow). I showed Brian, and once again wad promised that it would be replaced or repaired. I would like to think that he forgot, however, each time he called and nagged me about refilling my food order, I reminded him that my cookware that I'm spending thousands on is falling apart. They just don't care. They'll take your money, bribe you for all your cell phone contacts and keep nagging you to refill your order. But God forbid you have a legitimate concern and they forget all about you. Do yourself a favor: wait for good market sales and stock up on a freezer you bought for a $1,000 at an appliance store. This place is a scam.

Instead, I spent over $50 on two chicken cheesesteaks, cold fries, two fountain drinks, and donut holes -- and it was an absolute disaster. Let's start with the bread. It tasted like someone washed it, then smashed it and said, "Cook it up!" It was flat, soggy, and had none of the fresh, soft texture you'd expect from a real sandwich bun. The chicken cheesesteaks weren't even close to what was advertised. The cheese was melted terribly -- like a 4th grader's science project -- and the chicken had zero seasoning, with little to none on the bread. This was *not* the flavorful sandwich I was promised. The fries were cold, the donut holes were whatever because they lacked sugar, and the fountain drinks were the only part of this that weren't a letdown. But honestly, $50 for this? I could've gotten better food for half the price. I wanted to give this place a shot, but now I know better. Pardon My Cheesesteak clearly doesn't care about quality, and I'm definitely not coming back. Save your money and find something better.

My boyfriend and I went in thinking to ourselves, "we'll just try it for a few weeks", and we we've had our meals weekly from here for the past few months! We love it! We used to order from Freshly before and there really is no comparison. These meals taste home-cooked, while Freshly truly tasted like freezer meals. I also love the way I feel when I eat the food. The food feels fresh and wholesome in my body! I will say that the meals vary in size. We opted for the low carbohydrate 4 oz meal plan option so naturally, the meals are rather light. Some meals are a bit on the smaller side and I get hungry again in 90 minutes or so while some meals are larger and I am unable to eat it in one sitting. I do think some of the meals are lacking in salt/seasoning, but I just shake a little bit of "Everything but the Bagel Seasoning" from Trader Joe's and it does the job! The meals I enjoy most are the meals that include a sauce or meals with flavors that I know I enjoy. I do find that the meals that are simply a protein (ex: chicken) and a side of vegetables with no sauce are almost always dry. Overall, I highly recommend this service! There is such a variety in the foods week to week and day to day. The food is well cooked and tastes of quality. It feels good in my body and most importantly, I feel good knowing that I am eating good food!

It's an up-and-coming sandwich shop, and for good reason: handmade loaded sandwiches for $7.99 is an absolute steal in today's economy. There's only one worker so it can take a while if there are people waiting in line, but the wait is definitely worth it. Both the Simply Italian, GRB w/ AVO sandwiches are 5/5; the sandwiches are made-to-order with freshly cut ciabatta bread, thinly sliced meat, and veggies. Their quesadilla was also amazing too, and much bigger than what you would get from Taco Bell. Overall Bocadillo Kitchen was fantastic and it deserves the traction its getting from social media. I hope to visit again soon in the future.

Lastly no tables or chairs for eating have to take it to go. Have a nice day!
