Went on 1.24.14. I think the wind chill was single digits but it was worth it! I'm not a big fan of grilled cheese sandwiches so I was pleasantly surprised at ALL the options they had. Reuben, turkey Reuben, chicken parm, buffalo chicken, etc. I had a hard time selecting but went with the turkey Reuben. They put it in a brown paper bag so that was nice to transport back to work. When I first looked at it, it seemed underwhelming. Not too many ingredients. Not too big. But wow when I took the first bite! Still warm even after a drive. The bread was so crispy and not greasy at all! They mix of the turkey, sauerkraut, 1000 island dressing was delicious. I wanted to go return and get another sandwich! I asked for something to wow me and they did. The lady beside the counter listed off the best sellers and her favorites. What was nice is you could get the sandwiches as a sandwich OR as a quesadilla. I had the Club with a side of homemade chips. The club had cheddar, havarti, smoked turkey, apple-wood smoked bacon, tomato, and Fresh baby spinach on sourdough. It, along with the chips smelled wonderful on my walk back to my building. The sandwich was a good size. Slightly on the greasy side but after letting it sit on a napkin for a bit it was OK. I could have made two meals out of the sandwich! The flavors of all the different cheeses and meats was a wonderful combination. The chips likewise were a tad greasy. They were OK - not the best homemade I have had but not the worst. I would also say slightly overpriced for what you got. I look forward to their next visit in the area so I can try something new. read more

My husband always makes fun of me for being a "cheese toasty" addict. I do love myself a grilled cheese. I knew i had to try this food truck, so Megan A. and I put it on our food truck pilgrimage rotation. We stopped by while it was at City Garden one very nice day. I ordered the Cafe Grilled Cheese (5.75), which is havarti, housemade pesto, tomato, and spinach on peasant French bread. I asked for no tomato as I'm just not a fan. It came out pretty quickly. It was a very nice size and looked great! They also serve soups and homemade chips here. We found a seat and I started eating. I wished right away that they had cut the sandwich in half. It was big and it made it harder to eat. The turn off was that it was VERY greasy. Both the bread, and the insides. While I ate it, a huge puddle of grease formed in the paper "boat" it came in. I stupidly forgot to grab some napkins, so I had to do my best to keep the grease off of myself. My other complaint was that it tasted like there was pesto in one bite in the center of the sandwich. It wasn't spread at all, just a blob. So, while the sandwich tasted good, and I appreciate them using local cheese and bread, and definitely high quality, I just couldn't finish it with all that grease dripping out. Next time I'd order the regular grilled cheese and see how it tasted and if it's as greasy. As of now, it's just A-Ok for me. read more

Well fast-forward in time and realize that the feeling is still there, even if your youth isn't! The Garber (w/bacon, tomato, avocado, cheddar, and havarti) was simply delightful! The balance of the bread's crispness and the gooey cheese more than just worked well; it made me want to go pretend I was 7 years old and make a fort out of couch cushions. I tried two because I am a fierce supporter of everything cheese. And I got to judge the Dinner Bell portion of the Food Truck Fest and their grilled cheese won hands down. Stopped by here when they were downtown. I hit up this for my lunch and the other Sarah's Cake Truck for my dessert fix. Both food trucks are owned by the same name sake - Sarah. I ordered the deli club sandwich with their roasted tomato soup. The sandwich had cheddar, havarti, smoked turkey, bacon, tomato and baby spinach on sourdough bread with a total cost of $5.75. The roasted tomato soup had some spice in it and cost $2.75 for a small cup. It was very good, but ordering a hot soup on a 105 degree day probably wasn't my smartest idea. It is a huge sandwich. Since I ordered the the cupcake too, I ended up splitting the sandwich with my boyfriend, and saved the cupcakes for later. Seriously, the thing is big enough to serve 2 people. I think my only disgust was the price for a bottled water. This is such a small thing not to fret over, but word of advice is go to Hot Aztec where their sell their water for $1 versus Sarah's who sells it for $1.50. I am a stickler for saving money. We both really liked it otherwise, and would order from here again. Next time I will have to explore their other menu items. read more

Hit up Sarah's Meltdown at the year's last Food Truck night at Faust Park this past Thursday. It's pretty good! I can't say it's great, but it is pretty good. The food tastes pretty good, but the presentation could use a couple tweaks. I saw that they had a Cuban Pork Melt, and I loves me some Cuban sandwiches. So I had to go for that. Smoked pulled pork, shaved ham, pickles, swiss cheese, sweet and spicy mustard on French bread. The wife went for the Caprese Melt - fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil pesto on peasant french bread. All meat melts are $5.75, with a classic grilled cheese being $4.50. We also got a side of home made chips for $2.50. Food came pretty quick, and looked tasty. The sandwiches were crisp and toasty, a nice golden brown without making my fingers all greasy. However, they are pretty big. That's a good thing, considering the price. But cut them in half! If you are trying to eat it one handed, the size is a problem. Small touch, but do it. As far the innards of the sandwich, my pulled pork was pretty much a bunch in the middle. So half the time I only had ham to eat. They need to working on spreadin the meats out more evenly. The wife's Caprese Melt was pretty well balanced. So I'll recognize the truck for that. For both though, and this is a major point to me, I expected more cheese. Yeah, there was enough cheese, I guess - but this is Sarah's MELTDOWN. I'm getting it for the cheese factor. Don't just make me a grilled sandwich that has cheese on it, make me a grilled cheeeeeesyyy sandwich that has other toppings in it. Cheese can taste so good. That'll get people talking about the food truck! Finally, the chips were decent. Typical homemade style chips, which were decent. Nothing to fault there. But...I did think the volume was a little light for the price. Potatos are cheap. Pile it up a little bit. So overall, looks good, tastes good. But step up the cheese factor a bit to live up to the name - and cut those sandwiches in half! read more

One word-YUMMY!! I have been craving a good grilled cheese for a few weeks. It just happened the food truck was parked by me today. Omg. Yummy. I had the Garber. I never would have thought to add avocado to a grilled cheese. The only thing I'll add is a little ketchup to dip it in made it a little better. Didn't need it but was great with it. I tried Sarah's Meltdown for the first time at the Saint Louis Art Museum's outdoor film series. It was about 90 degrees and sunny, not exactly typical "grilled cheese" weather, but the aroma wafting from the truck completely drew me in. I opted for the caprese melt, with mozarella, tomato, and pesto. It was absolutely delicious. The mozarella was creamy and perfectly melted, and the fresh, homemade pesto pushed the whole thing to the next level. If you're looking for delicious comfort food, Sarah's Meltdown is definitely worth checking out. read more

The quality of the sandwiches has gone down since Sarah disappeared and it's become "The Meltdown". I used to love the bacon grilled cheese. It was once filled with tons of crispy bacon strips...now it is filled with a million chewy bacon bits...wth? I don't like anything with bacon from this truck now :-( what was more disapointing was that i had a long black hair mixed in my grilled cheese too. Unfortunately I had taken it all the way back to my job so I didn't feel like taking it back. Also the soup was not hot. Used to be one of my favorite trucks...not so much anymore. read more

I stopped by when they were near my office (WUSM). I first requested The Garber but was shot down because they had just run out of avocado - that's what I get for waiting until 1pm for lunch - so I ended up with the Bacon Melt which was fantastic! There was an ample amount of cheese without being obnoxious and the bacon was nice and crisp. The french bread was encrusted with... was it Parm? Anyway, the bread tied it all together. You crunch through the nutty cheese exterior, followed by the chewy, dense bread before reaching the gooey cheese inside. Mmmmmmm! I paid more than I thought I ever would for a grilled cheese (I'm used to the post-show, Shakedown Street specials), but after experiencing Sarah's Meltdown I can say that it was totally worth it. The chips are good. The baja chicken soup is amazing. I'm a bit of a food truck junkie and I think this is one of the best. Fast service, excellent fresh grilled cheese sandwiches. But this isn't your mother's soggy grilled cheese, this is gourmet baby. Working up in North County and not being able to get down to Tower Grove on Food Truck Fridays, my experiences with STL food trucks has been quite limited....until recently. I had the pleasure of hitting up Sarah's Meltdown twice in 5 days - at 4 Hands Brewery/Feast Magazine Food Truck Feast and when they came up to visit Boeing (the first big truck to do so that I'm aware of - thank you!!!). I've had the pleasure of indulging in the Club Melt, Cafe Press, and tomato soup. None disappointed, but I was particularly impressed by the Club. Granted, I love clubs, so you can't really miss with me on that, but it was ooey gooey delicious with bacon on top (or between bread, rather). The tomato soup is also fab. I'm not always a huge tomato soup fan, but I thought I'd give it a try. It was creamy with big chunks of vegetables - certainly a huge leap for tomato soup kind if you're one to go the Campbell's canned route. I highly recommend them both and Sarah's Meltdown in general. $8.75 for a sandwich and soup combo, and I was stuffed. Everyone I work with that gave it a go was impressed as well. My first time at this truck and luckily I didn't give up as I had a bit of trouble finding the parking location. The food was fantastic!! That is the part of the review you all wanted to hear anyway right? I had "The Garber" and a cup of the Tomato Pepper soup!!! Wow it was fantastic. The bread was nice a crisp while not being burnt and the cheese and other ingredients were so awesome. I was happy to hear they frequent this location and another one even closer to my office. Not a reliable person. I Talked with this vendor for 2 months before our event, confirmed everything and then he never showed up. I called and called and text and emailed and only heard from him 3 hrs after our event ended. I was told he had car trouble and the truck would be in the shop for a while then saw the food truck the next day at a food truck event. Very shady wouldn't recommend using him for your event because he's not reliable. read more
