I was in one of your soundbath groups, but from the very beginning, I felt encased in a protective bubble of utter peace and relaxation. Each different instrument you played and your soft voice put me deeper and deeper into that tranquil state. How you walked around the room with the chimes and the waves sounding Instruments was astounding! Most of the time, I literally felt like my arms and legs floating, though in reality I was laying comfortably on one of your mats. I remember thinking "on my arms, really floating? Yes, they are!" The MOST incredible thing, though, happened to me AFTER leaving your sound bath, while eating supper with friends. You see, I had a stroke, a couple months before the soundbath, was left with what is called "aphasia", the difficulty of verbally expressing myself. Directly after the soundbath, my friends brought to my attention how clearly I was talking, much much better than I had before the bath. Truly, you are a healer!! A wonderful healer! My only regret is that I was just traveling through the San Diego area on a trip, so I cannot take part regularly in your healing baths either in groups or, what I would love to do is book private sessions with you. Overall, such a warm, welcoming studio with a unique and memorable class experience.

But you are more interested, probably, in what I don't like: Rocco Ragano. He's a Nia instructor who titters when the class makes mistakes based on "assumptions", which means we assume he was about to do the same thing again and followed that instinct, when he's instead changing it up without any verbal communication. He is a classically trained dancer besides, so his choreography is overly complicated, and he's talented enough that he can't comprehend or assist people who aren't already proficient--not traits you want in a teacher. Imagine trying to learn basic math from a astrophysicist who has an internalized understanding of numbers, and can't imagine why you don't just get it: he's the Nia equivalent of that. And there's a touch of malice too; he seems to delight in the mistakes of his students, even when the mistakes are due to his poor leadership. I was so frustrated and ashamed that I didn't stay for his cool-down. I left in the middle of another overly complicated routine, with just 7 minutes of class left--I couldn't endure any more of him. When I walked out the door, he was smiling smugly in the mirror, like it was an accomplishment to distort the meaning and purpose of Nia to the point that a student *who truly enjoys it* has a miserable experience, gives up and goes home. Other instructors though, are marvelous, helpful, and even inspiring. I would avoid that man, unless you are already a Nia and dance star. Otherwise, prepare to be alienated.

Both styles are very easy on the joints and less intense than Vinyasa, so good if you are looking for stretching and/or coming back from injury. I liked the classes as you do positions that other schools tend to not get to (such as extended cobra, threading the shoulders, etc.). I also LOVE the fact that you get blankets to use - makes final Savasana position so comfy and relaxed. Irene is a great instructor with a soothing voice. Parking in the neighborhoods is super easy even on street cleaning days (Wednesday/Thursday) and you have plenty of space to move around in the studio.
