Hello, this is a very friendly bar. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I find it one of the best gay bars in Long Beach. However, I do have a complain because its the only thing that bothers me when visit. I see that the bottles and cans are thrown in the trash and not recycled. I hope our community becomes more proactive in environmental issues. When I order a straight up whiskey, I get a plastic straw with it. Maybe we can shift to paper straw and not plastic. I hope this is not taken as an offense to Mineshaft but I do hope you consider making some changes to this practice. Thank you for all you do for our community. read more

We were just gonna stop by for a drink but it ended up being a really chill spot. It was only a Monday so I'm sure it's even better on the weekends. Cool pool table to chill and chat it up. The review is mostly for the pool tables here at night. You can exchange bills for quarters at the bar to play pool and they are a pretty good value for what you can get. The good thing is that this place isn't too crowded so there are usually pool tables available. There is a juke box of sorts that you can put money in and play music with, which can throw you off a bit when someone goes and starts playing Lady Gaga or something on it. The mixed drinks were about $8 and are pretty strong. I thought they were pretty cheap compared to OC Bar prices, but my friend seems to think it's pricey for the area. read more

Abusive Hell Hole - if you want to be treated poorly and even yelled at by a psycho bartender, then this is the place for you. I can take that the place is a dive bar...no probs with that. But to have consistently lousy service by the bartenders is not cool. There is one bartender in particular, the younger of the two, who are usually on shift, that likely has a personality disorder. As a few previous reviewers have mentioned, this dude selectively ignores you. He'll serve others but seems to randomly pick a handful of guys that he simply choses to ignore. This makes noooo sense for a place that serves alcohol in order to make money. Unfortunately, this had happened to me on a number of occasions. It eventually became easier to simply let a friend order, as they'd actually get service. Not sure what I did...refuse him on Grindr??? In speaking to a number of other guys, this same bartender has done the same to them. It wouldn't be so bad if there were a handful of bartenders working from which to choose, but there are only ever two, no matter how busy they are. So not only can getting a drink be damn near impossible, the line-up takes forever. A very stupid move on the part of management as they could be pouring way more alcohol with more staff on. The worst of it came when the last time I was there I went to the bar and asked for change from one of the guys at the bar. He told me that he was only a bar-back and couldn't get me change and that I'd have to ask one of the bartenders. After he pointed out the bartenders to me, the younger of the two bartenders came towards me aggressively yelling and calling me an asshole. WTF??? I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. Buddy kept on swearing at me at the top of his lungs. I think he may have missed some of his meds. He then got the bouncer to throw me out. For asking for change??? Again, WTF. I sincerely hope that the bartender does get some help. Guaranteed though, I'll never darken this pit of misery again. They don't deserve the business. read more

I'm not exactly sure what is going on with the MineShaft lately. I have been going to this bar for over 20 years and I have never had an issue. They have recently fired most of the regular employees and the new staff is less than hospitable to it's patrons. I have been told that a lot of the employees have been replaced with straight people. Nothing wrong with straight people working in a gay bar, but if they don't know how to act with the gay clientele, it's a problem. In the last week, I have heard of 3 of my friends getting 86'd. All of these people are regulars and have been patronizing this bar for decades. They are all great, law abiding, mature adults and I cannot imagine what they could have done to deserve this. With all the money that has been brought in by these, and many others in their group, it's a huge slap in the face. Personally, I am choosing to no longer patronize this place. Since the rehiring, the atmosphere is not the same, the drinks are way over priced, and the service sucks! read more

Walking inside, I felt like I was going on the Log Ride at Disneyland. But instead of Miners whistling in the background, it was Madonna bumping loudly. The bar was really cool inside, and it was pretty big. The prices were slightly higher than what my spoiled ass is used to. I ordered a draft beer, which came in a glass that was probably only 10 ounces big/small. But of course, once I finally start feeling comfortable, the only straight men in the bar (foreigners), end up finding us and buying my DD'd friend drinks....Things got uncomfortable quickly, and we had to pound the drinks and move on. read more

After a few drinks, this gay bar was pretty fun. A gay friend took me and 2 other straight guys out to this place. I wouldn't come here by default or as a first choice but this bar was better than the other gay bar down the street that we hit up first. The music was very girls' night out-ish: Spice Girls, Beyoncé, Nsync. You get it. I loved it. The vibe is fun and lively. 1 of my straight guys friends was sticking to the wall and not making eye contact with anyone except our group of friends. He was still getting approached left and right. Later on he said he felt like he was "a piece of meat". Go figure, how dyou think us girls feel 99% of the time?! It's cash only, but there is an ATM inside the bar. read more

Good place to start off because of their happy hour and continue on bar-hopping down Broadway. More of a sports bar kind of shindig than anything else. When the mining disaster occurred in Chile I tried to find a Chilean bar at which to watch the news coverage. Failing that, I decided to go somewhere strong with the mining industry instead, so I headed over to the Mineshaft hoping to gain insight into the ongoing rescue effort. Well, I learned a lot; a whoooole lot. I was impressed by the altruism demonstrated by the group of miners gathered in the bar that day. They expressed a surprising amount of enthusiasm over the thought of being with their brothers, trapped in a mine, surrounded by other half naked, sweaty men. I guess those miners truly are a selfless lot. This is a great joint. Try the wings! read more

Pretty decent gay bar located in central Long Beach on Broadway in the heart of the "scene". There's a big horseshoe-shaped bar and a couple of pool tables as well as a small back porch for the smokers. Also a late happy hour with already decently priced beers and well drinks. My favorite place to go to in Long Beach. Weekends are best and has a DJ, if you're looking for a party crowd and usually gets crowded at around 11pm and after. If you're looking for something chill and laid back during the week this is a good place. Lots of regulars during the week but weekends lots of new faces. Not as impressed with them as they are...came in on Saturday afternoon, has local dive feel and that's ok... Problem is $7 for a mason jar of beer. First off watch bar rescue. Shape of the glass makes a difference. 16 oz or not, it looks small and affects the bubbles. Next up $7 for a draft beer. Really??? this is mid day, not a weho nightclub. Maybe at night that's ok. But Saturday afternoon, not cool, I wanted to check out the place but won't be back, and not sure why the rating apps give this place a 1 "$" it's worth "$$" TVs showing ice skating and golf.....way to excite the crowd, and sad 80s music, still to young for most of the crowd in here but not good enough to revive "superfreak" Two other guys here when I came in had one beer and heard them say they won't be back. Awesome gay bar on the Broadway bar strip! I LOVE the bartender (Robert? yeah...I think Robert)!! He is soo nice and super super attentive. This place gets busy but not packed unless it's raining. There's pool and darts to play, the smoking area is TINY but so cute (great place to meet new peeps and chat), but the restrooms are unisex and kinda crazy...no locks, tiny windows on the door (even though they're like two steps up from the main level). I'd take a friend to be the watch out. Overall, I really like to go there on chill nights where I wanna get outta the house but don't expect too much in the way of movin and shakin. So I am reviewing this based on my visit on a late late Thursday night. The place was dead but was welcoming and fun inside. i call the decorating inside - " gay Knott's Berry Farm" lol. Robert , the bartender who was working, was so sweet. My friend had just done a drag show at Ripples so we walked over and Robert was so welcoming and cheery. We talked for like an hour about gay life in Long Beach over the years ( Robert was a man of a "certain age" lol) and it was just a blast. Downside... cash only, hardly any patio/smoking space, and only two bathrooms that are NOT handicap accessible! But that is due to the fact that the bar was built ages before laws came into affect. This place is seriously the place to be on a Friday night. I came here with friends and it's a dive, plain and simple. They have two pool tables and a DJ on the weekends. The music is sick, but this place is small so the dance floor is where you make it. I didn't order any drinks since I was driving so I can't comment on them, but I had a good time. I did learn that I suck at pool, but, with a little help, I can be okay. We definitely had a great time so if you are looking for a relaxing place to drink and hang out this is the place to be. read more

Probably one of my favorite bars in the Log Beach "gayborhood" scene. There are a couple of fun places in North LB that I go to but for the "hood" this is my spot. Friendly staff and friendly laid-back people, much like the other reviewers have stated. Parking sucks. Welcome to Long Beach. Expect to do the street shuffle and cruise around a lot until a space opens up. You're competing with limited commercial and limited residential street spaces. Such is the life in the big LBC. This bar is usually full on Saturday and Friday night making for a good time. Drinks are not too expensive and the pours are generation. There a few pool tables, I believe a dart board and a smoking area outside. The bartenders are always courteous and have great customer service read more

I came for pride to Long Beach, landed at this bar, horrible. Smells like shit. I guess if you are into that you'll love it. Bought a drink at 1:27... at 1:33 a rude asshole is employee dumped my drink, didn't even let me finish the whole entire drink I just got.
