Elegant interior with delicious Indian cuisine and a full bar. Came in on a Wednesday night for some dinner and got seated very quickly. The decor is so pretty, with a ceiling of fairy lights and leaves. Even their plates are gorgeous! My sister and I ordered their rose pina coladas (one with alcohol and one without). They were both SO sweet and I honestly couldn't tell which one had the alcohol. We also ordered their samosas, which came two in an order. The chutneys that came with the samosas were insanely good, and the samosas themselves weren't too spicy. After the appetizer, we decided to split a small butter chicken entree and garlic naan. The butter chicken was more tangy in flavor than most others I have tried, but not bad at all. The garlic naan was buttery and delicious. Between the two of us, the small entree was enough to feed us that night as well as have leftovers to take home. Although it felt like we ordered very few items (two drinks, one appetizer, one small entree, one side of bread), the total came out to nearly $80 with tip!! I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here! The menu offers a great variety of dishes, from chicken prepared in different sauces to tender lamb, curried fish, and vegetables cooked in various styles. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. The mango rice pudding for dessert was especially delightful -- a perfect sweet ending to the meal. I met a friend for lunch today. I arrived late and she had gotten her first helping. I went and filled a plate. Asked the waiter for silverware. He instructed me in a rude voice that I should have picked it up at the buffet. Then he walked me over. He took our empty naan basket and I wrongly assumed he would bring back another basket. Same rude voice told me it was on the buffet. He begrudgingly went and brought some. I felt his rudeness was because I am Indian. Your food is ok but I will not be back. I'm so glad I stopped into The Mint Room. I had my eyes on this place for quite some time. It certainly lived up to the hype. The restaurant is beautiful with plenty of bar and dining room seating. I sat at the bar. The bartender/server was super friendly and made sure I was well taken care of. I went with my go-to dish whenever I try Indian restaurants for the first time...Chicken Saag (creamy spinach with spices). It was delicious!! I recently came as part of a larger group to celebrate a birthday. Right off the bat, I must say that the food was delicious - we had a family style set up where apps were shared, followed by a larger selection of entrees and sides and then desserts (including a cake that was brought). I can't remember everything we had because there was so much food, but every single dish was flavorful and satisfying! One of the appetizers stuck out to me which was the chicken tikka naan pizza, which I really enjoyed. I also liked the cauliflower dish, though I wish it had a little more of a kick to it. We had plenty of chicken items for the entrees and I tried a little bit of everything. The chicken tikka and chickpea dishes were my favorite, along with the chicken biryani. I appreciated the subtle spice in some of the dishes. The desserts were also good, but the gulab jamun was a bit too sweet for my liking - I am the type that prefers for subtle sweetness. Since we were a larger party, we were served the mango lassis in these plastic pitchers (which we actually didn't mind), but then they were switched out into just a few small bottles so we couldn't really share them anymore? They were better off in the pitchers if I'm being honest. I am removing one star because the service could have been better. It seemed like the staff members were not communicating amongst one another, as one staff member would say something that contradicted the other, on multiple occasions (including during the planning process). They did not pack our left overs for us (they said they didn't do that) so we asked for several containers to pack everything we had left; had we known this, we would have packed the many appetizers we had leftover or asked them to keep it to the side. Finally, there was a staff member that seemed visibly irritated with our party when she passed by because her tone was a bit unpleasant, even though she wasn't helping our table but was working the other tables (might've just been because we were a larger party and they were somewhat busy). Overall, the food was delicious and the set up is aesthetically pleasing. I was also impressed that there was a full bar available. A very over rated buffet restaurant in the city for various reasons and the main reason being the food taste/ variety for the price. The buffet is very much like any other buffet that serves Indian food except that this is not as healthy or clean as it is supposed to be. FOOD: Very limited food options be it Veg or Non Veg. There isn't anything that stands out from other restaurants and have a very very usual menu. For vegetarian, it was the standard menu. A salad, Vegetable biryani, Kadai Paneer, Gobi starter, Palak item (corn), Dal makani, Kheer, Vada. Most of them tasted very normal and there weren't as such any flavor or something nice that we would want to try again. They had on request tea it seems which I wasn't aware of until we paid. AMBIENCE & SERVICE: The ambience was too good. No complaints at all there. The lighting was perfect, the smell and the arrangements were good; it was quiet as well for a Friday lunch hour. The service was good but the most bothering thing was the waiters were standing very close to our tables and looking at us most of the time. It was kind of awkward. Not just one but there were 2-3 starring at us at any given time. They have the TV mounted on the wall and they stand there only to obstruct the view. I hope they give us some privacy while eating. The 2nd most bothering thing was everyone eats with their hand and they just take items like Poori, Naan with their bare hands and none of the staffs who are seriously looking into our tables bothered to ask them to use the tongs. Very uncomfortable to see this. BOTTOMLINE: A very average buffet restaurant that excels in looks but lacks a lot in the menu varieties to cleanliness to staff duties. The Mint Room is a beautiful location offering a lot of Northern Indian dishes. While it's clear to me that I should come sometime to explore their buffet offerings, I came with some family for dinner recently. Overall good. As I mentioned, the inside is beautiful, with gorgeous wood trim, pristine napkins and tablecloths, as well as lots of art from India. Not to mention several TVs displaying Indian loves like cricket, or Indian soap operas. The service is very attentive. My drink never got below halfway because someone came to fill it up. Maybe it was because we were there early and there weren't many other tables full, but there were so many waitstaff around us at any given moment. In one instance I got the distinct feeling of being circled by sharks. I like attentive service, but I think this tipped a little over the edge to being overbearing. The food - overall nice. Appetizers were tasty. A mix of pakora is hard to beat - tasty fried snacks with various dipping sauces. My father ordered the Bombay Bhel with its mix of yogurt, sauces, chickpeas, and other spices. Different, but tasty. The lentil soup was delicious (baby Child #3 loved it) - not too spicy, but well spiced, you know? Mains - Mostly good. My wife went for Chicken Tikka Masala as a reliable standby. It was decent, and a little bit sweeter than I'm accustomed to. My father loved his Chicken Korma and the bit I tried was very pleasant. I went for the Malai Kofta and it was fine. I'm used to a more yellow curry sauce for this, but Mint Room went a little heavy on the tomatoes - it was red, and reminded me a lot more of the Tikka Masala sauce. Not bad, just not what I was expecting. My older kids were feeling picky (to my embarrassment) and opted for a pizza with paneer tikka masala on it. Just know if you have some less adventurous eaters, there are some more North American friendly dishes available. All of the naans were good. The poori was a little greasier than expected; a bit soggy with how greasy it was. I get it; it's fried dough, but I've had a fluffier poori before. read more

Incompetent, Chaos Run Virtual Restaurant: This review is for The Tiffin Company, a so-called "virtual restaurant" that operates out of The Mint Room. I called ahead to confirm they existed before I placed the order, because DoorDash listed them but there was no storefront. The Mint Room picked up the phone and said "there's no Tiffin Company," then when I asked again, they corrected themselves.. "oh, that's our virtual restaurant." I said I'd place a pickup order now and be there in a few minutes. They said, "sure." I arrived. A woman at the bar saw me, I showed her my order on my phone, she didn't check anything. She just randomly said it would be another 10 minutes. She didn't check any order number, no kitchen inquiry. Just a random made-up number. I sat down and waited. Ten minutes passed. Now it's been 30 minutes since I placed the order. Maybe these people think their customer enjoys waiting around in a crowded, noisy sweaty buffet mess restaurant like a farm animal. I got a notification from DoorDash saying the food is ready. So I go up to the bar again and ask. A man comes out and says, "Oh, we didn't send the order to the kitchen until now. I just now pressed the send button!" Excuse me? You made me sit in a crowded, sweaty dining area with buffet traffic, for nothing? You didn't even send the order until I asked again? Then he says it'll only take 5 minutes to make. Food that takes 5 minutes to prepare but waiting around for 30 minutes because that's how little they regard their customers. A refund was only offered because I asked. Not because they took ownership of the mistake. They treated it like it was totally natural. The whole operation was incompetence, but the person most to blame was the woman at the bar because she wasted my time by lying without checking on my order. In contrast, this place is right next to Domino's, which runs like a machine: order tracking, efficient pickup, car side pickup, and ready exactly when it says it will be. My order there has never been late, and the food is always amazing. But the minute I want Indian food, I have to deal with this mentality of chaos, disregard for time, dysfunction, and inefficiency. That contrast made it even worse. Domino's delivers. The Mint Room fumbles. What's jarring is that they offer modern services (virtual kitchen models, DoorDash integrations) without the matching mindset. It's like slapping a Tesla badge on an autorickshaw and calling it innovation. Why are you operating a virtual restaurant if you don't know how to manage orders or communication? If you're not going to honor pick-up times or check the system, don't list yourselves on apps. Unless you enjoy waiting around in crowds and chaos for food that takes 5 minutes to make, (that too only when they feel like sending the order in), you might want to go next door. read more

I love Indian food. So much flavor and spices to experience. For that reason, unless I am going with a pro, I prefer going to a buffet. I just hate the thought of eating just one or two dishes. Not sure why but have not had the chance to try the buffet at the Mint Room. As I get older, I just cannot put away the food like I used to so it definitely isn't the quantity for me anymore On weekdays, the buffets run from 11:30 to 2:30pm and weekend the same I believe. The cost for weekday is $20/person and weekend $25. That cost is important, because any higher, I couldn't justify eating just one plate. So I got my plate and filled it with a little bit of everything. So much flavor! I was tasting all kinds of spices, textures, everything. But half way through my plate, I started sweating profusely. Something had a latent spiciness that I just failed to identify. Now don't get me wrong. I love spiciness but it has been years since I sweated because of spiciness. I was intrigued because I did not taste anything overtly spicy or hot. And it did not bother me at all. I just want to know what it was that caused that reaction. We don't often get Indian food--some of the diners in our crew love Indian, others not so much. 1. The place is new, we have to go! 2. It was Saturday night, and we didn't have anything out for dinner. So, one of my personal go-tos for American-style restaurants is fish and Chips. For Indian restaurants, it is Lamb Vindaloo. It's sort of my quality control check. I know what it should taste like. First, they have a 1-10 scale for spiciness. I went with a 6. The Lamb was prepared perfectly, and the tomato-based Vindaloo sauce was perfection. Overall, this was a six out of five stars. The other diners with me found their food to be perfectly prepared. So two last things. First they are on our list of places we are returning to! Second, they are close to home, making it even better! read more

This is my second review of this beautiful restaurant. Some of the decor has changed. The ambience is very nice, we arrived shortly after they opened at 11:30am. ThereThere was nice comfortable seating, and the staff was attentive and helpful. Their lunch buffet is what people come for and they promptly clear away any used dishes if you are going for other trips to the buffet. Our water glasses were always kept full. They highlight traditional Northern Indian cuisine and there was a variety of dishes to select from. The buffet was well stocked with ample amounts of each dish was available or replaced as it ran low. There was also a variety of rice and noodle dishes that showed the Indo-Chinese influence. We all enjoyed our choices. The sauces were flavorful and went well with each dish. The vegetables were not overly done, chutneys were very tasty and meat and poultry were tender and delicious. The Chili Fish was light and not overly spicy. There were some dishes for those who are vegetarian. There were a couple of desserts that were not too sweet and were a nice end to the meal. They have a full bar that looks readily available to serve drinks and cocktails. Their buffet is served each day of the week, just need to check the times they are opened. Parking is readily available off of Rt.40 in Ellicott City. We loss track of time chatting but were never interrupted to leave until we noticed them getting ready for the dinner crowd. summary: overall it was an excellent experience. Went on a Monday around 5:30 for dinner and it was relatively quiet. Food was great, service was great, will be back again. the service: it's one of those places where it felt like your water glass could never get empty because there's a server somewhere keeping an eye on you to make sure you're taken care of. We had multiple staff members coming to check in on us periodically to make sure we were happy. Everyone was very kind and accommodating. the vibe: beautiful decor. It looks fancy-ish in a way that it doesn't necessarily make you feel like you "need" to dress up. They have a nice bar area and a large selection of drinks. It also looks like they have a pretty small stage situation for events. the food: delicious. everything was great. Our favorite dish was probably the vegetarian starter, the Palak Chaat. It was vibrant in flavors and very well-balanced. Great way to kick things off. We also had the vegetarian vindaloo, the kadai gosht, and the achar jingha with a naan basket. It was definitely too much food for us, but it was all so good. recommendation: their menu is very large and one of the challenges is limiting yourself to only a few options for your meal. It looks like they offer a lunch buffet for a fixed price. In a dozen orders we haven't had anything we don't like!!! Still exploring the menu, but highly recommend the lamb dishes, esp the lamb saag. The breads are lovely, chaat & pakora delicious. This is one of the best Indian buffets that I have had the opportunity to visit. It's in an area with lots of good Indian restaurants nearby but for a Buffett I don't think you can get better value than this. They have a large variety of options and none of them disappointed in my opinion. It was only 30 dollars and definitely worth. There is also a large selection of drinks and other items and the service is extremely kind and they made sure my glass of water was never empty (and regularly picked up the dirty plates from the buffet) As for the food, I was surprised at its quality. For the veg section the chole batura, mushroom mutter and the saag paneer were my personal favorites and the veg biryani and daal were also solid. Also the vada sambar was very well done, they also had a large variety of non veg options involving goat, chili fish, chicken biryani, tandoori chicken and everyone's favorite chicken biryani. Again everything was very well done and I have high standards for indian food. One of my favorite biryanis in my personal opinion (at least in the area). They provided lots of naan batura rice and other options to accompany all the bhaagis. One thing that definitely surprised me the most was the dessert options. I don't think I have had a gulag jamun that good in a while. Whenever they refilled it it was funny seeing a rush of customers getting more. The mango kheer wasn't a personal favorite and the chocolate mousse was surprisingly good. They have plenty of staff and we were attended to immediately. In terms of the food, my fave was the vada (a South Indian delicacy) and tomato chutney. The chutney was spot on, sambar was sub par (very mild flavor profile). The rest of the dishes were average, but they do have a good variety. This is by far some of the worst chicken tikka masala I've ever had. And that too the most expensive. First of all as an Indian, this place caters to the non Indian (it's too spicy) crowd. Also why have a spice level scale of 10 numbers. How do you distinguish between a 4 and 5? So dumb. The food was prepared and delivered in 25 min. Its 15 min away so there ain't no way this was all made from scratch. The gravy was not only bland but watered down. Spice level was very slightly there for a 5 but the blandness was more noticable. And finally, the chicken is of decent quality but barely marinated so that didn't have taste either. How can you butcher CTM like this? Spent 60 bucks for one entre, one naan and a dessert. I tried The Mint Room for the first time a couple weeks ago after recommendations from a friend. Overall I was very happy and would definitely go back. The selection was pretty good for a buffet, and flavors were solid. Service was incredible, very friendly, fast, no complaints there. The interior was nicely decorated and felt like a nicer place that most buffets. The only area I felt left room for improvement was the naan. It didn't have the nice chewy/cript texture that I usually look for. It makes sense that given it needs to be cooked and brought out in bulk, but I have been to other buffets that have managed to pull that off better. Was passing by ellicot city and was craving for Indian food . Google reviews took us to the Mint room ! First of all, the interiors was really good and the ambience was good . They had a big bar once u enter .. they don't have much choices of tap beers or IPAs. They had some lager beers which was pretty expensive- like 13$ for a big TaJ mahal etc . Service was exceptional . There were so many going around helping customers .. hats off . We then started the buffet . Vada was a bit oily . I did t want to stuff up my stomach with samosas . Chole batura was good . Chick 65 and tandoori chick was really good . Had some biryani after that . It was ok . Coming from Edison NJ our taste buds want more :) but for Maryland standards the food was good . 25$ for the buffet was not bad . This is a beautiful restaurant!! Very nice design and spaces. I love the black and bronze/gold as well as the greenery. Every single server was pleasant and smiled. Each person said hello and went out of their way to accommodate us. Just a pleasant feeling space. Now the food! Delicious. Simply said. I went during lunch so it was a buffet which I wasn't aware of prior. They had a HUGE variety and everything was hot and tasty. The space was clean and well lit. The food was absolutely delicious from the appetizers all the way through to my rice pudding dessert. For appetizers we got the Palak Chat and Tulsi Paneer Tikka. Both were very delicious, but I'd highly recommend the Palak Chat. For my entree, I got the Akhroti Gosht. I got spice level #6 (out of 10) which was plenty spicy for me! It was absolutely delicious!
