Got $100 worth of takeout last night and it was terrible because of a basic cooking error they made. Got three dishes with paneer, and they had fried the paneer until it was as tough as shoe leather. If I had been in the restaurant I could have sent the food back to the kitchen, but I can't do that with takeout. So I have a refrigerator full of horrible leftovers. Beware this restaurant. They mess up the basics. Also the manager was rude when I came in with a mobility scooter a few months ago. You'd think he had never seen one. My first visit to this Sangam here in Ellicott City,MD and this doesn't disappoint at all. The food was just so good and the service was extremely good as well. Definitely a thumbs up for the Thali meals. THE FOOD: We went in towards the end of the lunch timings I believe so it was not at all crowded for a Saturday lunchtime. The Veg Thali was the first thing that caught my eye. Paneer Dosa was the other thing that we ordered along with a glass of Badam Milk. The thali was just exquisite with some great flavors and everything was cooked to perfection in my opinion. Sambar, Bittergourd Kuzhambu stood out. The Paneer dosa was a delight as well. The Badam milk seemed bland a little bit and it was just okay. Rice quantity given initially was less so had to request more and they were able to accommodate without any additional charges. Quality of food was good as well. SERVICE & AMBIENCE: The ambience was excellent. Ample light coming in during the day time and it was quiet as well despite couple of big groups around us. The restrooms were very well maintained. The service was just amazing. The staffs were literally working around us to get us what we wanted without hesitation. BOTTOMLINE: I would highly recommend this place for some great variety in South Indian food in particular TamilNadu style of cooking. The spice levels were apt and the service was excellent. Sangam is serving up some of the best southern Indian cuisine in the area! I ordered takeout via Grubhub on a Saturday evening and my delivery arrived without any issues. The Masala Dosa was one of the best dosas I've had in awhile--fresh, flavorful with ample filling. I ordered a side of raita, which balanced the subtle spice nicely. Was looking for a place to eat on Christmas day and just happened to stop in Sangam. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly & helpful. The restaurant was very clean .We had the Chicken Pakoda & Butter Naan for our appetizers they were both very delicious. And in conclusion...... We didn't end up eating here. We absolutely will when they get the lighting under control. The place is so bright at night that I had to get sunglasses for us from my car. Even then we left because it was so bright. I've turned to giving 1 star reviews to this so that the management sees the review. Owner, manager, how do you have absolutely no comprehension of ambiance? People want to be comfortable when they go out to dinner, not feel like their eyes are being bombarded with 50k lumins of bright white light. Install a dimmer and use it. You will have more repeat customers. No one wants to eat in a laboratory. Aside from that, when the lighting is so bright you see every spec of dust and dirt. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take any pictures, but all of the food was flavorful and delicious. Our party of 4 arrived at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon, not knowing that they close at 3. The hostess was unsure if she could seat us as the kitchen closes at 2:45, but she talked to the manager and he said it's fine. The restaurant was packed and the noise level was above average, playing various pop indian music. Tables, plates and utensils were clean, but the placemats had curry residue. We quickly sat down and ordered the following dishes, listed in order which we liked the best (but all were enjoyed). All the dishes were flavorful and just the right spice level. The price is fair for the portion size and quality of food. Location looks like another take-out joint, but definitely is not; lovely interior, separate bar, decent amount of seating. Food is wonderful and portions are more than ample (had gobi/roasted cauliflower appetizer (that would have been a meal for one) and lamb biryani (brought home more than half.) The food at Sangam is delicious. I loved their aloo gobi and the butter chicken was also very well done. I tried the dosa but was not a fan of the filling because of personal preference. They do get really busy on weekends and you may need to wait for a table. They're also short staffed so you need to try hard to flag down a server. read more

Entrees - saag paneer good, chicken tikki masala- sauce was good but they use dark meat chicken, other local places we go make this with white meat. Most disappointing was the tandoori 1/2 chicken that was not on a sizzling platter and was about 6 thighs and 1 leg. The rice was bland without the flavors of cumin, clove, and cardamom that we are used to. Not once did someone come check on us after our food was delivered by the food runners. Went back to Sangam restaurant in EC with relatives who were craving South Indian cuisine. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience and delicious food! Several of us ordered the thalis-which were as expected including many small servings of classic S. Indian items (sambar, rasam, veg curry, eggplant kuzhambu, rice, papad, and a very lovely rava porridge dessert flavored with mango. Mini vadas (fried savory lentil donut) that were included in the thali were cooked perfectly. Mango lassis were nice and not overly sweet. My daughter has severe food allergies and the owner was very helpful and transparent about her options. (We went in knowing that her options were limited but several others really wanted to eat there). The dosas were nice and large and crispy as was requested. I would say the spice level was not at all too much-as compared to previous visits to Sangam. I like a bit of heat but others in our household (who shall remain nameless) are very intolerant of chillies. The onion pakoras were especially tasty-the curry leaves and seasoning were perfect. At previous dinner outings the goat and chicken dishes were superb (and nice and spicy!). The service was attentive and helpful. They were very kind and helpful to an elder in our party who had difficulty walking. read more

Fantastic South Indian food! Our favorites so far are the veg thali (which is like a sampler of various dishes), and the onion rava masala dosa. Everything is flavorful, delicious, and authentic. We haven't tried any of their North Indian dishes (that might be more recognizable for those that aren't familiar with South Indian dishes since a lot of the Indian restaurants in the area are focused on North Indian cuisine) or the indo-Chinese dishes yet but everything we have had was amazing. My fiancé and I heard about this place from my company picnic and we work all over Maryland so we like to see what are good hot spots. We ordered online (there only option was DoorDash when we looked them up). It didn't mention spice level so we assumed it's mild and with me being pregnant and Im in a high risk pregnancy I can't eat spicy stuff. We spent over 100 dollars and they gave us medium spice. I called to see if they can exchange it as online you can't level comments and there is no choice on type of spice or in description say what level Itll be. They said that not their problem becuase they can't control doordash. NEVER going here again and let my company know it's was a waste of money I couldn't even eat it. Ambiance? Loud. Busy. Busy is a good thing for a restaurant. It should, I would think, make the staff happy. More customers. More money. More tips. But. Every single employee seemed unhappy. Not a welcoming smile on the way in. Not a " thanks for coming in" on the way out. And no one cracking a smile in between. Clearly we were a burden to them. So they could have moved things along so we could get a meal and get on our way. But...no. 10 minutes of sitting there with no one coming by. Finally. We got water. And eventually someone took our order. The food? Well, a Shrimp Biryani should have more than 3 shrimp. And another piece or two of chopped up shrimp. ( why?) it was good biryani. Nothing special. But good. But not for the price and lack of shrimp. We eventually got our requested boxes to pack things up. And asked for the check. And another 10 minutes goes by... Then, the payment. A hand held credit card machine. That stays in the servers hand while she glares at the customer looking at what level of tip you're going to add. Not a very good customer experience. Finally. " Would you like a receipt?" Yes. What's this? 3% feet added for using a credit card? Not disclosed on the menu or mentioned by the server? Bye.
