    Wonderfully packed - $3.99 each

Cake Wala serves delicious pastries. Butterscotch is my personal favorite although I recommend all their flavors. The cake is spongy & melts in the mouth with layers of flavored buttercream that's made with just the right sweetness. I'm not a fan of overly-sweet buttercream, so this one's my type :) Prices are slightly higher on Doordash, so recommend ordering it directly on their website instead. The entire order came beautifully packed with no spills.

Chai tea! The most authentic version in the area.

Cake Wala is a small bakery that specializes in cakes and traditional Indian cuisine. The highlight of my first trip was the Masala Chai Tea. It's the most authentic in Howard County. Food: On a cool morning, the unique blend of spices awakens my tastebuds with a buttery smooth finish. This version of Chai Tea was an enlightening experience for me. I've never had anything like it before, so once you try this version there's no going back. The cakes here are beautiful! You can enjoy a single-serving sponge cake with whipped cream filling topped with your choice of rose, black forest cake, pineapple, pistachio, and mango gel. The cake is airy and moist, there's a hint of vanilla in the whipped cream and that mango gel is perfection, I can see my face in the reflection. Service: Super friendly. I didn't recognize most of the items on the menu so I made my decision based on the cashier's recommendation. Ambiance: Inside there is no seating, just the display cases and an area for utensils. They have seating outside, but only two people can sit at each table. Most people take their orders to go. Overall: The Best Masala Chai Tea! Perfect way to surprise a friend, coworker, or family member with a slice of cake. Affordable Friendly service Grab and Go!

Awful Bhel Puri.. Can you count the Puffed Rice ?

Visited this place multiple times for chaat items hoping this time it may be better. But every time it's a disappointment. Took home Bhel puri and Samosa Chaat. More than the Bhel or Samosa, they are Chickpeas chaats. I don't understand their infatuation with chickpeas so much, may be to show the quantity. Bhel puri has no Bhel in it, but is full of chickpeas and green chutney. Never seen Bhel puri being green in color in any part of India. Look at the picture and see for yourself if you can see puffed rice in it, We could hardly count puffed rice in it. Total disappointment.

This was a little treasure that I happened to find randomly. It gives the neighborhood bakery vibe in any Indian town and if you're an 90s kid, you would totally relate. We got the chocolate and butterscotch pastry, and the cream roll and those were delicious. So fresh and not overly sweet. We also got the chicken puff that was slightly bland, but their Frankie was sooo good! Will definitely be going again!

Cake slices: black forest (top), rasmalai (middle), falooda (bottom), tiramisu (right)

Cake Wala can be described in two words: excellent choice! Parking was easy enough to find in this lot, but be warned that it's very busy! The line to place an order for Cake Wala was out the door, but we were able to place our order within 10 minutes and receive our food within 15 minutes! There is no seating inside, only tables outside. Bundle up if you plan on sitting outside during a wind day, like my friends and I ended up doing! I came to Cake Wala with friends initially for chaat, but ended up ordering cake slices as well. For chaat, we ordered samosa chaat, bhel puri, vada pav (not pictured), and gol gappa. My favorites were the vada pav and bhel puri because both were flavorful and really fresh. The gol gappa did not quite satisfy our craving because something was missing. The samosa chaat was great, but dredged in chutney and it became difficult to take in the entire dish. The cake slices were the real stars of the show, namely the falooda and rasmalai cake slices. These slices were not overly sweet and the true essence of falooda and rasmalai was captured perfectly in this slice. The black forest and tiramisu fell flat because the cake itself was not very moist and the icing was a bit hard. Thanks Cake Wala for a great Sunday afternoon turned evening! I'm sure we'll be back for more chaat and cake soon - looking forward to trying new flavors!

    Pani Puri

I stopped in this past weekend since I was dropping my daughter at the Pottery place next door. I got the pani puri and it was pretty good, however the service was not so great. The guy at the counter came off as standoffish and seemed like he didn't want to be there. Since there was a $10 cc minimum, I decided to grab a couple of cupcakes as well. The chocolate was okay, but the strawberry frosting didn't really taste like strawberry. If I'm not mistaken it tasted mostly like shortening. I'm not sure I'd make any special effort to return unless they improve their customer service.

Fast, delicious. Who ever heard of a chicken curry burger? I thought it would be curry flavored chicken on the bun--nope. It was actual chicken curry. The food smelled strongly of spice, but it was seasoned to perfection. This isn't going to be the spiciest thing you've ever eaten; there's just enough to taste it and enjoy the flavors. I ordered the mango cake on a whim. The prices were so good I figured "meh why not." The mango cake would pair perfectly with a cup of tea or a strong cup of coffee. It's light, fluffy, and airy. There's just a tad of mango flavor in the after taste of the top layer of frosting. I would have preferred a heavier mango flavor, but it isn't bad as is. Unfortunately, I wasn't in a place where I could access either coffee or tea. I wouldn't eat the cake again on its own. Would order again in the future.

    Samosa Chaat! Yum!

Found this place on our way back to Silver Spring from Baltimore. I was specifically looking for mango cake for my mother in law's birthday and although they didn't have a full cake available right now, they have single slices. We decided to try slices of black forest and pineapple before buying a large cake. They have quite the options for sliced cake: pineapple, black forest, pistachio, mango, tiramisu, fresh fruit, butterscotch, chocolate. I noticed on the menu they offer eggless black forest and eggless butterscotch. Since we got here between 5-630p their happy hour (M-Th) offered chaats and curry burgers at a discount, both were delish with the right amount of heat! I only wish they had mango and sweet lassi drinks.

Their egg puff pastry is superb -- their puff pastry on the outside is delicious and fluffy, while their filling is generous with about half an egg inside. However heads up they don't always have it so call in advance before making your way down here!

I had the pistachio and milk cake. Milk cake was my favorite of the two. But they were both amazing.

My birthday was on a Monday and I needed a cake or a slice of cake. I called numerous places and they all agreed to close on Monday's I guess. I called cake walla and the guy said I'm open until 8 and I jumped into my car and ran over there. I bought two slices of cake because I didn't want to go overboard, you know. came home and the cakes were so soft, moist, not too sweet, perfect feeling... what can I say; best cakes I've had in a long, long time. Not going anywhere else anymore.

    Paneer Frankie
    Pallabi M.

This spot is open for pick-up and so good! They serve up some delicious cakes, pastries and Indian street food. My favorite is the paneer frankie - which is a great on-the-go meal. I usually like to call them in advance as they prepare the food items fresh and don't have them prepared in advance (which I think is great). Just a note that there isn't any seating available inside the shop - so you'll just be able to order items in store and will need to dine elsewhere.

The restaurant is in the back of the building and has a few tables. I'm not sure if it's a sit-down and order type of place, but I ordered at the counter and also picked up my food at said counter. I had stopped for gas and saw the Indian place was just opening for the day. I wanted to try something from this place, even though I already had lunch plans. So I ordered a little snack of Papdi Chaat (as people affectionately call it the Indian nachos). It was refreshing and flavorful. Pretty hearty for a small treat. Hidden Gem for Gujarati Street Food!…read more Situated inside a grocery store, it may look random, but it serves great homestyle food. It was recommended by a friend--otherwise, we'd have never crossed paths. A must-try for Gujarati street food! We ordered the Gujarati thali and loved it. The chapatis were incredibly soft, and the bhindi and gawar fali were absolutely delicious. I just wish there was a bit more kadhi or gravy to go with the rice--to help balance out the carb load (I know, it's a lot to ask!). We also tried the dhokla, which was excellent--light, fluffy, and flavorful. Will definitely order that again. Ended up getting khichdi and eggplant curry to go, and I'm really looking forward to trying those. Next on the list: some of their fried savory snacks! Bonus: They also serve Indian-Chinese and Punjabi food if you're in the mood for something different. A warm, comforting meal that truly feels like home-cooked food--definitely worth a visit! Note: I would've loved to see the kitchen open--it's always comforting in small places like this.
