I have been coming to Money Pit for over 12 years now and I have nothing but great things to say about the food. The bacon avocado cheese burger is amazing and it's been my go to for years with the zucchini fries. I've had many zucchini fries from many other restaurants and they by far have the best. The ranch from here is top tier as well, so it makes it all the better. This is where the 3 star review comes in. My family loves to come here after the beach on our way home, as it has become a tradition at this point. Part of this tradition is eating inside because the decor and vibes are awesome. I love movies and so this place has always been a favorite as it comes to the theme. They close at 9:00pm and they won't let you sit inside if it's closed to 8:30pm and sometimes, like tonight we got here before 8:30pm. The young kids they have working here want to get out of work as soon as possible so they start cleaning early and turn away people early so they don't have to stay longer to clean. This is ridiculous, as the closing time is clearly 9. They always seem so annoyed that you even walk inside in the first place, which with a family being told we can't eat here even though it's open is just insulting. Management needs to talk with their employees about this because I'm sure they aren't aware of this and they turn away business. Why wouldn't you want to eat inside at a place like this? Food is amazing, but if you want to eat inside be sure you get there an hour or even more before close! read more

How have I not known about the Money Pit until now!!! The place used to be a bank and the restaurant owners kept the original vault from the bank in the restaurant which you can see when you walk in. One of my new favorite casual breakfast and burger joints. What makes it 5 stars? - awesome food and generous portions. The food was fresh and tasty. I loved my burger and chili cheese fries. Unlimited drinks. The perfect meal. - very reasonable prices for the quality and food portions (better than any fast food including In N Out especially since they keep raising their prices) - they serve breakfast, burgers, other sandwiches, salads, and several sides. Something for everyone to enjoy. - plenty of parking in the lot and lots of seating inside. The vibe is casual diner food. - service was friendly and professional. The Money Pit is such a cute place with fun decor, and it's a well-known San Marcos establishment that's been around forever. I went Monday night (9/21/26) with my boyfriend and his friend. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of ordering a salad. I got the Greek Tavern Salad, which doesn't come with meat, so you have to pay extra to add chicken. The chicken was very dry and flavorless and in a big chunk on top of the salad. The tomatoes and green peppers were also in really big pieces, so I really wish I'd been given a better knife to cut everything up. I also wish the salad had a better Mediterranean-style dressing and more feta. I ended up leaving most of it behind. The other thing that really bothered me was that they started deep cleaning the restaurant around 9pm, even though they're open until 10pm. They were fully mopping and stacking chairs around us, which made us feel like we were being rushed out. I actually asked when they closed, and they said 10pm--it was barely 9pm at that point! Who wants to smell cleaning chemicals and have furniture being stacked around them while they're still eating? The decor is cute and the restaurant has a lot of character, but unfortunately the food and the way the evening ended probably means I won't be back. read more

My bride and I always differ in the morning on what to eat. I am a breakfast person and she is more an early lunch person. This place is a perfect blend, in more ways than one. First, there will be a line to order at the counter, don't worry, this place has a drive thru, they know how to cook and prepare food quickly. The menu is on the wall, simple, yet something for everyone. I ordered an egg and sausage breakfast with a coffee, my bride a chili cheese dog and soft drinks! (Came out to $21.93) Coffee and soft drinks are self-serve. We found a table and the serve brought our food to us. The food is served on paper plates and plastic utensils (and the server clears the table, there are no trash cans around). My breakfast was as good as a typical cafe style meal, only it cost $10 less. My bride said her dog was great. My cousin loves this spot and I wanted to love it too but it just didn't hit for me First the inside decor is cool though, for a quick fast casual sando this spot had a cool atmosphere and diner feel while carrying out the money theme really well. Service also was super quick! But my sando just wasn't too great, good chance the cook in the back was having an off day and I'd be willing to try again since my cousin loves this spot so much but for me this time around- the chicken was just not crispy and it made my whole sando soggy. One of the coolest things about this place is the backstory. Though the name money pit sounds cool it used to be a bank that's why all the money is there. Besides from that the food is pretty good. I moved nearby the Money pit but I found the food average. Not that much to say but I tried it. It's crowded around lunchtime with construction workers stand in line to get your food. Staff there is very efficient and very nice everybody that is staff is terrific. But the food is very average and if I want a hamburger with a beer or an iced tea the iced tea you can get a beer you can't. I don't drink soda so it left me drinking water. That's about all I have to say I enjoy the neighborhood shopping in that little mall area. read more

My family and I ordered basic cheese burgers and hamburgers and made them a combo which was about $10/ person after taxes. While it may seem like a budget meal, the quality of the burgers and fries far exceed the surrounded places and fast food options! The chili cheese fries were delicious, personally i would have liked more cheese and for the cheese to be melted a little better but im not complaining at all. The chili was great as well. I ordered a Vanilla Strawberry mixed shake and the strawberry ice cream they used tasted so fresh instead of just any regular strawberry ice cream.
