The store had some plastic cups in the window that I wanted to buy. I picked up the cups, took to the counter to purchase and was berated for removing the cups from display. So, I asked if there were anymore in inventory so that the ones that were taken could be returned. There was not. They refused to sell me the set of cups because they were "display" which, as a retail store seemed counterintuitive. Why in the world would you have something displayed that you don't sell?!?!?! when I went to pick up my order from the monogram shop it was the wrong item. The lady working there was not apologetic whatsoever and simply told me "it's a human mistake". She treated me with no respect and made no effort to solve the issue. I would not recommend the monogram shop to anyone you're better off ordering from Etsy because it takes a week anyways and don't have to deal with the rude owner/manager. read more

It's a shame the sales people and the owner are so unfriendly here because they have great gifts. I've been in several times over the past few years and always end up leaving without buying anything. The owner is usually speaking to customers she knows well and the salespeople clearly take their cues from her. I've never been greeted or asked if I need any help- Because the shop is tiny I always end up feeling unwelcome and like I need to leave quickly. read more

the monogram shop is a very cute little boutique with clever gift and home items with linens, cocktail napkins, cups and plates all emblazoned with labels such as pool, pool house, beach house, guest towel, etc. they will embroider any of their goodies to order, and the children's bathing suits embroidered with first names are particularly cute. what drew me in, however, was the chalkboard out front with the tally of obama and mccain cups that the store has sold recently. as of this weekend, obama cups had been bought MUCH more than mccain cups. my sister bought me some obama 2008 cups for my apartment and a few mccain 2008 cups for herself. the adorable proprietresses were very amused and added our purchases to the tally. a very good spot for host/hostess gifts or just cute stuff for your own home or home away from home. read more

Having owned my own retail shop, I understand the importance of providing excellent customer service. Sadly, Valerie, the owner, does not. I purchased a duvet and two shams from her, having been told that the items would be custom order. I had seen the same items online at Neiman Marcus, but because I wanted to support The Monogram Shop, a locally owned business, I decided to purchase the items from Valerie. Having managed a Laura Ashley store years ago that included custom home furnishings, I knew it was possible to see the same pattern in a premade versus a custom order item. I was asked to provide my credit card information when I gave Valerie the order, and I was told I would receive a phone call when the items were ready to be picked up. In the end, the items I purchased weren't custom made. They came directly from Neiman Marcus. Valerie misrepresented what it was that she was selling. In addition, even though I had told her that I would be paying cash for the transaction (and ultimately did when I picked up the merchandise) Valerie ran my debit card prior to even letting me know that the merchandise had arrived. As it was, I was out of town with poor cell reception and very limited access to email. There was a glitch with my bank in reference to a wire transfer. Nevertheless, I thought it was inexcusable for Valerie to run my debit card before I had even inspected the "custom order" which is the way in which all custom orders are typically handled, having worked at fine stationery as well as home furnishings businesses. In the end, while I love my new duvet and shams, I won't be giving Valerie any additional business. I found her ethics to be questionable and she was incredibly rude to me in both her email and voicemail when she wasn't able to speak to me immediately regarding my order. Apparently Valerie was concerned I wouldn't ultimately honor my commitment by paying for the merchandise I had ordered. The Monogram Shop is easily my favorite store in East Hampton. Family-owned and operated, they sell beach-related odds and ends, often adorned with different monograms. Definitely check out their plastic cups (adorned with print like "Beach House", "Boat", and "Almost Oceanfront"). The help is very friendly and personable.
