Rubens andwich with French Onion soup side.
Cheryl M.

This review is for lunch only! A friend and I decided on Moonlight Cafe for a Friday luncheon. We went around 1pm and were 1 of 3 tables in the place. The ambiance is quaint and dark. Great for a romantic dinner place! We were greated and seated immediately. Their lunch menu offers some great choices in sandwiches and our server gave us 3 or 4 soup options. We both decided on the Ruben, one with a side of French Onion soup, and one with onion rings. I can never pass up that soup and consider myself a bit of a snob! I wasn't disappointed!! The soup was freaking awesome! Great broth flavor, just enough onions, and the bread wasnt too soggy, still with a little crunch. The highlight was that sandwich!! Excellent Ruben and probably the only local place I'll get one from now on! Paired with a nice glass of cab, that lunch seriously hit the spot! If you're looking for dark, quaint, and tasty, this is your place!

I enjoyed my food when I had lunch here, but like some of the other reviewers, I found there could be a lot of improvement in the service. I ordered the Cafe Chicken Sandwich with a tasty grilled chicken breast (still juicy and well seasoned) and selected a side salad to go with it. The salad was colorful and I got a house-made balsamic vinaigrette which was really delicious! The sandwich came with choice of cheese, lettuce, red onion, and tomato. Maybe just a hint of chewiness, but overall, quite good. The problem with service was one that as the only lunch time diner, I thought I would be welcomed to the restaurant or at least greeted and attended. But the man who was running the front was very quiet. He would often disappear into the back (he was managing a "to go" order as well), and my meal took about a half an hour to come out. He also didn't ask if I wanted the salad before the sandwich, so I received them at the same time. (That's basic restaurant 101 to ask.) I did get my water refilled and the check was promptly processed once I let him know I was finished, but it was odd sitting alone in this long, cold (not well heated) room. I understand that with low attendance during lunch, it is hard to hire staff, but more effort on being welcoming improves the customer's experience and can lead to good word of mouth. I will round up my review since my complaints can easily be fixed. I just hope that the business chooses to be more friendly so that visitors want to return. Note: Lots of free parking along Main Street and a nearby lot to the south. Review #3570

Shrimp and scallop alfredo. Excellent!

These guys will make you a dinner that you will not soon forget! My husband and I came to visit Lawrenceville in February 2020 and had to stop here for dinner. I ordered the lemon chicken with smashed red potatoes and my husband had the shrimp and scallop alfredo. We devoured both of our dishes because everything tasted so good! The seasonings were all spot on, and everything was so rich and flavorful and cooked extremely well. We topped it off with one of the best creme brulees that I have ever enjoyed. We did have to wait quite a while for our dishes to come out. They had a full house the night we were there, but everything tasted so good that it was well worth it! We also had the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer which was also fantastic. I really like that these guys know how to cook and season everything well. It keeps you coming back for more!

Always a great meal. Best ocean fish in the area. A must for any and all. I have never had a bad meal. A good wine pour.

Outdoor seating is great at this restaurant. The only negative comment is they don't put on the…read moretable that you should come inside before being seated. It took a while for them to acknowledge me since there's no signage. Once we got past that everything is great The Cobb salad with chicken is really good with the homemade bacon vinaigrette dressing and the sweet corn & crab chowder is really good. It has just a slight kick to it as far as taste but really just pops in your mouth is really delicious. Cobb salad has lots of toppings lots of chicken and a very false salad. Fresh ingredients, fresh eggs avocado slices might be a nice touch to it. Fresh brewed iced tea was spot on and Service was absolutely wonderful out on the sidewalk, enjoying the sunshine and a nice warm breeze.

On the border of 2 and 3 starts, rounding down because it was especially underwhelming given the…read morereputation. I suppose this is why the Midwest has the culinary reputation it does... This being a soup-salad-sandwich place, I had a half-sandwich with soup. The famous crab-corn chowder was just okay--I didn't really taste any crab in the broth, just some strands of loose imitation crab. I found it thicker than a usual bisque sort of soup: although that's reasonable by clam chowder standards, this broth didn't quite taste like anything. I also found the sandwich nondescript--the hard-boiled egg was nice, but the ham, cheese, and pita all seemed premade, and their combination didn't seem to add anything.
