I would change the fact it's not pet friendly as that's what this town is all about, also I'd make all the decor a bit more modern... not that it's not nice but many other rooms we walked by looked pretty amazing. =)

The building is nestled into a valley, surrounded 360 degrees by mountains, valleys, and aspen groves. Since it's situated on a hill, you have an incredible view of the lake right below. Bonus--Marble, the town in which the lodge is located--is a fantastic place with a one-of-a-kind mountain town vibe. If you want to get married somewhere remote that celebrates the beauty of the Rockies without having to pack hiking boots, this is the spot. As you likely know if you're on this website, planning a wedding involves a ton of "what if.." and "can we..." questions. Whenever I've got one of these, I can rely on Vince to be a partner in problem-solving, information sharing, and accommodation. His laid-back, can-do approach keeps my stress level low because I know that I'm in the good hands of somebody who's done this before. Recently, I was hoping to visit the space to visualize where we might set up the bar, the dancefloor, the dinner tables, etc. Vince went out of his way to welcome my fiance and me to the venue. It was middle of winter so this visit required Vince to clear 3+ snow and actually shuttle us up the hill with his all-wheel drive truck. Besides the above and beyond service of this visit, the place itself was a high point. Pictures don't do it justice. On the inside, it's homey and full of character and every piece of furniture has a story. You'll love the Marble Lodge and working with Vince. I expect to be able to share many more positive things once we've actually had the wedding :)

Shower curtain was moldy in the main house. Freezer in main house would not shut completely so it took hours upon hours to freeze ice cubes. Windows in "chalet" didn't have screens downstairs for the windows that opened. Other windows had screens but wouldn't open. Deck stairs were wobbly and unstable. Vince pointed out that the bath on the main floor leaked down into the downstairs bathroom - "just throw a towel down and it will be fine". We were instructed not to use the washer/dryer because they were expensive. Housekeeping staff would wash the kids' laundry if we left the clothes in baskets. We had 11 teenage girls and 10 teenage boys in our group. No one was comfortable with the housekeeping staff (all men) washing their clothes. Add on how dirty the washers and dryers were, it made everyone more comfortable to take our things to the laundry mat. Vine came by at 7:35am our second morning there and was very irritated that he could not get into the main house where the girls were still sleeping. He came back at 9:30am and was very rude and confrontational. He told me my behavior was abnormal because I insisted on locking the doors while we were sleeping. Mind you, I was not ever given a key to lock up while we were gone hiking. We returned that evening and the water was turned off to the chalet. I called Vince and left a message. I then called housekeeping and they said he turned the water off due to a suspected leak and forgot to turn the water back on. Vince was at a meeting until 10pm and would come after that to turn on the water (the valve was behind a locked closet). We stayed up until midnight waiting for Vince. He came at 4:25am the next morning trying to enter the house while we were sleeping. He left to get keys. I met him on the porch when he returned and again he was rude and confrontational. I asked why he had locked cabinets and closets if he expected us to leave everything unlocked. He said he needed that closet locked because he unplugged the washer and dryer so we wouldn't use them. Vince's behavior was creepy and uncomfortable. We checked out at 9pm on Tuesday. We were booked to stay until Friday morning. I called Vince multiple times. He will not return my calls. I would like a refund of $3240 for Wed and Thurs nights. These kids (high school cross country team) raised funds for this trip and Vince ruined their stay.

And what a booming town this little hamlet used to be. And that is why you should tour Redstone Castle. You need to buy your tour ticket in town. Give yourself another 10 minutes to drive up to the castle, park, and get over to the castle. But it isn't really a castle. No moat. No drawbridge. No turrets or towers. It's just a big house. And considering I live in Boston Metrowest - I have friends who live in larger, more ornate, tackier houses. Most of the first floor of the house has been kept in "original" condition. But since the castle has been operated as a bed and breakfast or inn by previous owners, all of the bedrooms have been updated. No telling if there is any resemblance to the original. Also, most of the furniture is NOT the original stuff, so again not sure if any of the stuff is even period pieces. It is still cool to walk around. And imagine living there 100 years ago. It's really about the coal, not the castle.

The cabin was originally built as housing for the local quarry workers but has been beautifully remodeled and updated. There was no no cell service in town, no TV in the cabin, and the only internet access was in the main lodge. It was wonderful to unplug for 2 days. The town itself is very laid back and is a nice change from many of the more tourist orientated towns in the Colorado mountains.

The phone service was no good but that is was is so fun and relaxing about small remote towns. It's nice to unplug. They did have WiFi that worked okay for things like checking email but not for streaming or anything like that. The shower in the bathroom was super nice but it was one of the fancy ones that doesn't have a door, it's just half glass and open the other half but when you did shower the entire bathroom and room got super humid and muggy. Hotel is dog friendly which was awesome for our pups. Also, they only take cash and check but they are super flexible!

When we got upgraded the junior suite was amazing and the bed was in much better shape. Breakfast took forever, it was ridiculous on many levels. We had to constantly hunt down for staff and service. The food was good though. This place is so dog friendly, we took her to breakfast, to the bar and staff literally brought her dog treats. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was basic but comfortable and well kept. (They could upgrade the T.P. quality but maybe that's just me...)
