The Mug is a wonderful place to be! It has a cornhole set outside in the summers, and wonderful ice cream to keep you cool during the really hot days. In the winters, they put a plastic wrap around the outside tables and a heater to keep you warm even when it's very cold outside. Inside, they have the kitchen in the back and ordering tables in the front to order some great comfort food. They have nice waiters and waitresses to keep the food and drinks coming as you watch the cars go by on the street near the restaurant. They have gardens in the front in the spring and summer to add some beautiful decoration. They are open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. On those days they are open 11 A.M. and until 8 P.M. They have all sorts of comfort food from hamburgers to giant pork tenderloins. Giving a "5" star means to me everything was perfect. If I was just evaluating food and service it would be a five. The only thing that keeps this review from being perfect is the outdoor restroom facility and no indoor seating aside from long bar like table facing outdoors in front of the order counter. Based on Yelp reviews and photos I ordered the pork tenderloin sandwich which was HUGE. So large I actually had to cut it up and eat it with a fork. I could have easily shared this order. Garlic fries were the best I've ever had. Coating was light and airy, garlic was fresh. Graham cracker ice cream was unique and delicious. I think it's due to the fact that they use all locally sourced ingredients from Central Indiana, which is also probably why, as some reviewers have expressed, the prices are a little higher. They serve hot dogs, hamburgers, tenderloin, fries, onion rings, root beer, ice cream, etc. They have a very few seats inside, an outdoor seating area, or you can stay in your car and order from the sqwak box. Growing up in Indiana, I somehow managed to avoid trying a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich until this past summer at A Different Drive-In on Indy's West Side that Shares Part of Its Name with The Mug. It was ... not good. Bland, and almost tasted freezer-burnt. I figured this was a weird Hoosier thing that I just wasn't going to appreciate. Consider me reformed! On our way back to Indy after an afternoon of fishing in Brookville, my dad and I stopped at the Mug. After seeing pictures of The Mug's tenderloin and knowing that they sourced their meats from Tyner Pond Farm, I decided to give the pork tenderloin sandwich another try. I ordered it "Mug-Style" (with pickled jalapenos and shredded cabbage), and it was straight-up delightful. Juicy and flavorful. I couldn't eat the whole massive thing so I saved half for my boyfriend to eat later. After he finished eating it, I regretted not eating the rest myself. My dad enjoyed his "Wisconsin Dog" even though they forgot to put the cheese on it. And they also serve Sundae's ice cream!! The mobile Yelp app clued us to this venue during a road trip. Not too far off the highway to be terribly inconvenient. Your wallet will like it, very affordable prices. Lots of yummy options to choose from. I chose the pork tenderloin sand which grilled because there was so much buzz about it on yelp. It was not bad, but if I had it to do over again, I would try the cuban because I was torn between the two. My wife had the pulled pork sand which and it was very good. The kids tried both the triple decker blt and the grilled cheeses. The garlic fries do not disappoint but your fellow passengers in the car may not appreciate as much as you did that you ordered them. Note to self - no garlic fries on road trips ;) Be sure to save some room for ice cream because it is worth it with some incredible flavors to choose from - sweet corn husk, mango, red velvet, maple bacon, banana cream pie, etc. You will want to try them all. And these aren't flavorings to pretend to be the food names they claim, these are the real deal. For example, the maple bacon actually has real maple and real bacon in it. Try it with a rootbeer float to turn it up a bit. In addition to all of this, they source just about everything locally so you are supporting your area as well. The place has some great outside seating and also provides the sonic drive up curb service if you wish to not leave the car. Note that the in and out of the parking lot appears to be reversed from most normal quick food establishments. Not sure why this is. They do a great job of providing fun diversions, i.e. the sidewalk chalk and board games for the kids. Very cool. About the only thing I do not get about this place is the name. There is no beer or alcohol served so are we talking about the pig's face? Maybe it's a agriculture reference that I am missing? Feel free to comment and let me know. The root beer here it's from Wisconsin and it's brewed, it's really good. The two and change burger is not worth two and change. It's like a white castle on a regular sized bun. The best thing about that sandwich was the pickles. No sauce included. The fries are really good. The Mac n cheese tasted like stouffers. The tenderloin is huge and not as tough as most, if you like those. The grilled cheese is nothing special, barely any cheese. The people are nice. Quaint feel, good food - pretty much sums this place up. The menu is broad enough to make you stand there and consider your meal, but classic. I came for the breaded tenderloin and was not disappointed. It was crunchy and juicy, large and in charge, and big enough for two! The hubs went classic cheeseburger- must've been delicious because no one was offered a bite and there wasn't a crumb left. I had garlic fries too, which were good, but not spectacular. So after years of hearing how great this place is we decided to try it tonight. I will say that I was not very impressed the order of hand cut fries were crumbles and overcooked. The onion rings had so much batter and a tiny slither of onion and again overcooked. The tenderloin was again overcooked and dry. I would just like to start by saying, it is pretty nifty that this farm-to-curb joint is located on Apple Street. Anyway, stopped in for lunch around noon today. You order at the counter and I noticed because of people entering from two doors, where the line ends seemed a tad confusing to some. The interior has an open kitchen layout. The order was taken on an iPad tablet and credit card swiped with Square (mobile cc processing), which was nice to see. Service was basic and friendly enough from the cashier. We ordered, got a number and sat outside. The dining area was attractive and comfortable. Our food was delivered in about 10 min. The meat used is sourced from a local farm, Tyner Pond Farm, so you can feel better about the food you are eating; antibiotic-free and it's traveled from just a few miles away. I ordered the Jalapeño Cream Cheese Bacon Burger ($7.75) and Chad, the Ultimate BLT ($7.00). We shared an order of garlic fries ($3.25). While my burger was very good, I wasn't completely convinced about the addition of the two jalapeno poppers. They were likely originally a frozen product and were like little scalding bombs. I smashed them into the burger before biting in. Overall, the flavor was good. This is what I would have done differently: Spread cream cheese on the top toasted bun and layered the burger with fire-roasted fresh jalapenos (not breaded). Chad was happy with his BLT sandwich. I don't have more information about it other than that. The garlic fries were good. They were fried correctly (not over or under done) and a good ratio of seasoning. The one size was too much for both Chad and I to share, so the portion could have been smaller, especially because of the garlic and they only offer the one size. SUMMARY: Super cute place, very clean, love the outdoor seating. Bravo for the local sourcing of meat and supporting another local business! The food seemed like it can be taken up a notch slightly for the prices and presentation. The service is basic: ordering at counter, food delivered, not sure if there were drink refills available, no follow-up to speak of (but we still tipped 15%, so...?). We always eat at The Depot when we stay in the area. Wanted to try something new. Big mistake. We ordered grilled chicken sandwich, chicken strips, sweet potato fries, onion rings, and Mac & cheese. We got 6, literally seeping grease through the bag onion rings, no sauces that were paid extra for, no napkins, no ketchup even though I asked. We wouldn't have had cutlery for the Mac and cheese if I hadn't asked for it. Disappointing first meal of the spring season sitting outside. The first time I ate here a few years ago I raved about my great meal but not now.
