    Clean and modern rooms.

This B&B is one of a kind! I highly recommend staying here if you are in Milwaukee. The rooms are unique and display local artists work. The owner Mary is very friendly and a pleasure to talk to. The breakfast was super delicious, and filling. Within walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. Nice neighborhood, with plenty to do. Onsite parking which is always a bonus. We are looking forward to coming back.

    A cozy corner.

Great b&b. Very welcoming hosts. Delicious breakfast and wine & cheese. Jetted tub in the room was perfect end to the day. Would stay again!

I also recommend a longer walk to St Josaphat Basilica, which was recommended by Mary Ellen and also some other guests.

They have a carriage house on site that you can rent on airbnb which would certainly make for a charming stay with such a gorgeous environment laying mere feet away. They host an array of events, from weddings to wine tastings to classes (a gorgeous spot for a wedding with a smaller guest list--this isn't your 400 person wedding sorta spot). For anyone into horticulture or simply looking for ideas to improve your own garden space, you can't help but leave here inspired. An absolute gem in Milwaukee!

The house itself is very architecturally interesting with high molded ceilings and all original fireplaces. It's decorated to look as close to the original as possible. We came as part of #Doorsopenmilwaukee. My daughter was volunteering here later this day. The gardens have an instant peace feeling about them. It's a touch of tranquil in the busy surrounding Downtown. I loved looking at all of the different fauna and flowers. I only wish they had the signs saying what type of plant it was. There are a series of paths, a few fountains, and some nice areas where you can relax. They rent out the gardens for parties and weddings. There was a separate carriage house that has bathrooms and facilities to get dressed for events. I am sorry I didn't know about this place sooner. It's really beautiful!

From the moment I walked in, the lobby was overwhelmed with a heavy, Axe body spray-like scent--so strong it felt like walking through a middle school locker room. I assumed it was temporary and that my room would be a relief, but unfortunately, it was worse. The room smelled musty, like a house that hasn't been aired out in years. To make matters worse, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, which is unacceptable for a hotel at this level. Beyond that, the overall cleanliness of the hotel was lacking. For a boutique property, I expected a much higher standard, but the space felt worn and not well-maintained. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the towels were rough--far from the soft, high-end feel you'd expect. The most concerning part of my stay, though, was waking up at 1:45 AM struggling to breathe. It genuinely felt like a reaction to something in the room--possibly mold or poor air quality. I initially thought I was getting sick, but after spending a few hours away the next day, I felt completely normal again, which makes it hard to ignore the room as the cause. If you have any respiratory sensitivities, be cautious. I contacted the front desk to explain the situation and was told checking out early without being charged for another night wouldn't be an issue. I even offered to return around noon so they could turn the room, but was told not to worry since they weren't sold out. When I returned later that day, there was no note, and the staff refused to honor what I had been told, citing the late checkout time. While I understand policies, the inconsistency and lack of follow-through were frustrating. I also dined at the hotel restaurant, which didn't help the experience. The food was overpriced for the quality--my salad was warm, fries were room temperature, and clearly sat out too long. Dessert was equally disappointing; the lemon tart was buried under an excessive amount of powdered sugar, making it unpleasant to eat. It's honestly a sad day when I transferred to a basic airport hotel--Hyatt Place Milwaukee Airport--and had a significantly better experience. The bed was more comfortable, the towels were actually soft, and even the shampoo and conditioner were noticeably better quality. On top of that, the Hyatt was spotless, which only made the lack of cleanliness at Iron Horse stand out even more. Overall, this stay fell far below expectations. Between the condition of the room, air quality concerns, cleanliness issues, and poor service recovery, I won't be returning.

The real problem I've had is after our stay. We had a bit of a billing dispute since the room I was staying in was paid for in a block of rooms for a wedding party in advance. Since discussing that issue with the front desk attendant on-site, we were told that the Accountant and GM would "look into" the issue on their end. After calling today I was very rudely told essentially that there was no problem for them. Doesn't solve my issue since I was charged as well as my parents. But that doesn't seem to bother them. I've never been treated the way I was by a customer facing person, and I guarantee it wouldn't have been that way if I wasn't on the phone compared to in person. In the end I guess I'll be left to dispute charges online and/or file a BBB complaint. Would not recommend.

The neighborhood has old Milwaukee feel, like true residential feel. This place was restored roughly 25 years ago. It was originally built in 1886 and condemned to be torn down before they saved it. It took 7 years to really revive it. The grounds, the building, the details, the architecture, and sheer care that went into this place is very evident. It is so beautiful and the hospitality is even beyond. Truly a wonderful experience. I don't stay at bed and breakfast much because I usually opt for the hotels and it's amenities but I must this place definitely has changed my mind---although it is unique. I stayed in Sophie's room and it was very well maintained. The water pressure is actually very good and you can definitely come and go as you please. The breakfasts are delicious. They will use vegetables from the yard for omelets or Andrew's famous French toast w/ "brewed" vanilla. They are wonderful company and extremely cordial and down to earth folks. If I ever come back to Milwaukee---because this was a random spur-of-the-moment trip--I would stay here again. Definitely recommending it to others!

I was there on a Saturday night and my room was just above the street, freeway side. There was non-stop drag racing, loud stereos and yelling till 3AM. At first I thought the window was open because it felt so close, like it was 10 feet away. Turns out there's just really poor noiseproofing. They do provide ear plugs but they didn't help. When i complained about it, (everything by text, BTW) they said they had never heard that complaint. The first lie of a series of other crazy lies. At checkout, Rosa said she would talk to the owner and adjust my bill. I thought.... great! Weeks go by and like 20 texts, still no credit. I called and talked to the owner. He assured me I would get the credit. Another week goes by. Finally they said they had issued the credit and sent me some "proof". My name and the words "-$100". What the hell was this? I still had no credit, having checked my credit card daily. Finally, almost a month goes by and I email the owner and say, I never got the credit. He said he didn't have time for this and they would void the credit card "credit" and mail me a check. It's been weeks and still no check. I figure these grifters need the money more than I do so I'll just let this review suffice. Stay at your own risk. Sketchy as hell!
