It's hard to complain about prices at a museum with free admission... but these were quite exorbitant. It was over $50 for two adults and a child to eat and the portions were also quite small. That being said, the food was quite tasty for museum fare and offered some cultural offerings not typically offered in museum settings. There is also plenty of comfortable seating for parties large or small. If you can't get to a more reasonably priced setting, this cafe offers a good option that doesn't require getting a new parking spot for museum goers - and that convenience might just be worth the additional price. read more

My Bride and I were visiting the museum, and (as museum people ourselves) decided to eat here to provide a little more financial support. On the whole, this was an excellent decision on our part. Bride got the Peppadew Chicken sandwich, a panini with slabs of grilled chicken, arugula, asparagus and manchego with a sweet paprika aioli I ordered the Sister City sandwich, which was a cutlet of roast pork with avocado xxx I got chips for my side but my better half, being a better person, got fresh seasonal fruit. Museum cafes, like stadiums and amusement parks, know that they're selling to a captive audience, so they are never cheap. But honestly, $14 apiece for these sandwiches and sides? That's pretty darn good- comparable to the local restaurants. Our total, with tip, came to $34.37. The only issues I had were the water, which tasted pretty chemical-y, but after a mouthful of salty chips, I couldn't really tell, and the fact that it took 20 minutes for us to get our sandwiches after we paid. Wonderful quaint cafe at the museum with a simple but elegant menu. You order at a counter and a server brings you your meal in the dining room. Our service was quick but personable. Our food was fresh, at the perfect temperature and super tasty. There's also nice views in the glass enclosed dining room. The robust aromas was irresistible. The Smoked Salmon Gnocchi was satisfying. I converted the salad to a carry out container. The only thing that wasn't irresistible was the unnoticeable; yet, noticeable crevices of the dining area. How have I not rated this place yet?? I've been going here for 11-12 years. It's honestly really good food! The cafe always has something with salmon (and that dish is always my fave). They also have burgers and other items as well. The chocolate chip cookie is everyone's fave. You can get beer or wine, so then you can enjoy the art museum a bit tipsy if you like! The setting is very nice - mix of booths and tables, and then an enclosed patio. Service is always quick and excellent. The art museum has WiFi so bring your laptop to get some work done if you like! read more

Reasonably priced and good food. Spent a few hours enjoying the museum and got hungry and and needed to grab a beverage. I had the Burger of the week ($12.00) that was some delicious speciality burger with mushrooms and some chips. My partner had the Grilled steak and mushroom ($12) with cheddar cheese, onion, banana pepper, and peppercorn aioli and chips. Both were good choices. Would totally recommend eating here. Nice menu, good service, and food. A nice way to break during a visit to the museum. read more

My friends and I stopped into this cafe after visiting the museum for a bit. I have to say, the whole museum including the cafe really wowed me. The menu was interesting, everything was made fresh daily, and the prices were just right. I enjoyed the variety of soups, sandwiches and sides and really appreciated the weekly burger special. I didn't order it but the burger that was highlighted during my visit was Frankenstein's monster- a cheeseburger with bacon, pate, duck confit. I really admire the creativity! I can tell that the menu was curated with heart and the dining room was very clean. Everyone from the person behind the counter who took my order, to the person that delivered my food was very friendly and kind. I appreciate all the attention to detail that went into this lovely cafe. I ordered the grilled delicata wrap and a side of the root vegetables. The wrap was delicious, it was light, full of flavor and grilled to perfection! The root vegetables were a beautifully colored medley and seasonal vegetables however, the vegetables were a little too hard for my liking. Hence, I'm knocking off a star for my review. Overall, this cafe is the perfect addition to an already wonderful museum. This definitely added value to my museum visit and I'm sure it will do the same for others! read more

Located inside the museum, just to the right past the main "Grove Street" entrance on the back side, the Café is serving up some seriously delicious & fresh eats. I popped in for lunch today, and was absolutely thrilled by my poached Salmon BLT on marbled rye. The bacon was perfectly crisp and the salmon was silky. I opted for a side salad, which came with greens, grapes, croutons and candied walnuts. It's a quick walk or drive from the OWE or downtown. This restaurant is a great place to enjoy a bite before or after spending a few hours wandering around the amazing FREE Toledo Museum of Art. The dining area has floor to ceiling windows which provides a nice indoor/outdoor feeling. I dined with my sister and mother and we split a few items; the Spinach, Watermelon and Blueberry salad, the Maple Smoked Onion soup, and the Artichoke Piccata Gnocchi. The food didn't take long to arrive, and when it did, it was hard to decide what to try first. The soup is creamy and delicious and the taste of the smoky caramelized onions was wonderful. The spinach salad was well done. You can't go wrong pairing goat cheese and watermelon, and the fruit was so fresh, considering it was all out of season. Gnocchi can be hit or miss for me, but this dish knocked it out of the park. The light citrusy flavors of the capers, lemon butter, artichoke and roasted tomatoes really brightened up what could have been a heavy dish. The whole meal was so pleasant from start to finish and I can't believe you can order this quality of a meal for less than $30. It's worth planning a visit to the museum just to eat! read more

My first time to lunch at the museum café yesterday. I had the grilled chicken and peppadew wrap. Best wrap I have ever eaten ~ surprised! I find most wraps to be somewhat dry but this wrap was warm and toasted and even a tiny bit messy from juiciness. Typically museums of any type have sub par overpriced bland food. I wasn't aware that the wrap came with a side of cranberry almond farro with wild rice. I sampled it but I am not a fan of those particular grains so I couldn't really say much about it. The setting was very nice, two dining areas. I chose the one furthest from the entrance which is up 3 steps on a higher level with 2 sides of glass walls allowing you to see outdoors and soak up a little sunshine if you choose to sit in the right spot! Tables are set with cloth napkins and silverware and all food and drinks served on nice dishes. No paper or plastic! My husband just works down the street from the museum so I highly recommended it to him as a great lunch spot. Maybe a bit pricey for everyday lunch but worth a splurge occasionally. My wrap with side of grains and a soft drink was $11 and some change. I look forward to returning and trying out some of the other menu items. Menu is not huge but certainly unique. Was about to get Chipotle when I walked past the menu here in the museum. The lavender mayo on the grilled portobello sandwich sounded delightful! I had the side salad with it that was joined with a green goddess dressing. Wonderful experience! Wonderful service; caring people. Will return again! Also: lots of vegetarian options!!!! read more

The Museum Cafe is one of the best dining options the Downtown area has to offer. First off, the Chef grows much of the produce used in the kitchen in TMA's own community garden, which is awesome. Second, the dishes are inventive without being obnoxious. For example, the turkey wrap with mixed greens, pecans, and drunken fruit is healthy, refreshing, and a pleading twist on a diner classic. The soup of the day is always a safe bet as well, and surprisingly enough, the Museum Cafe serves up one of the best burgers in town! The Poached Salmon BLT is another favorite, light, fresh, healthy and full of flavor. The menu isn't large and I think that's to the benefit here. It is evident that each dish is prepared individually and with care. I've never had a bad meal and think menu size and attention to detail play a big roll. I also like that given your mood you can eat cheap, light, and healthy, or ca get stuffed on the likes of BBQ, burgers, and other bigger meals. Bonus - it's quasi cafeteria style, so you'll order first and pay, then take a seat and wait for your food in a rather inviting and pleasurable atmosphere (some great historical information about the museum is included in the dining area). Once you eat, your free to get back to wandering the collection or whatever else you've got to do. Extra bonus - the cafe is located just inside the Grove Street doors (back side of TMA) right across from the parking lot, so it's a viable place for locals to pop into for lunch, meetings, etc. Great food at good prices. If you're headed to the Toledo Museum of Art (and even if you're not) don't look any further for a good place to eat. In addition to really pleasant and attentive service the food is great! I had the poppadew pepper chicken wrap sandwich (delicious) and my wife had the grilled portobello mushroom wrap which she loved. I liked the leather booth seating area next to the windows with the artsy "blinds" (see photo). I ordered the arugula and mushroom salad. The food we had here was good, though the menu selections are, shall we say, a bit eccentric (pear and asparagus panini? really?). Not that I don't appreciate creativity in cooking, and this is a museum, after all, but the menu seemed heavy on selections that may not have a broad appeal. For instance, all the cheeses available on sandwiches and salads yesterday were of the "stinky" variety (goat, blue, brie), none of which my wife likes, and I know she has a lot of company in that regard (certainly mine at least where brie is concerned). The burger of the day was BBQ Pineapple--how many people would choose that if they had an option? My wife finally decided on the chicken salad, but learned the cafe was out when she ordered. Instead she settled for the breakfast wrap (egg/bacon/greens) which she said was very good, with a great aoli topping it; she just hadn't been in the mood for breakfast. My arugala/mushroom salad was excellent, with the tenderly reconstituted sun dried tomatoes a fruity but piquant note to almost every bite. So, a good place to grab a bite before or after a museum tour, but pickier eaters in your group may have trouble here. read more

For a cafe within a museum, this place is excellent. They have a delicious short rib sandwich with Ohio peaches, and it's served on two slices of perfectly grilled bread. I got it with an excellent side salad with mixed greens, blue cheese, and walnuts, with an onion vinaigrette. Five star dining at two star prices. This is seriously some of the fanciest cheap food I've ever had. Gnocchi, braised beef, hearty homemade soups-- it's all fantastic. The atmosphere is bright, elegant and relaxed. I also love how guests are encouraged to doodle on the table paper with colored pencils while they wait for their meals to come out.
