This place was mentioned multiple times to my fiancé when we ask about local diners. We tried it out this morning and we were wowed by the food and the diner feel this place had. The menu was great and they also had a great list of daily specials for all meals. I ordered the mini breakfast which consisted of two eggs, one meat, hash browns and toast for $7.50! It was a great deal and the meal was very filling. Great breakfast spot and we will be back for sure! read more

We were starting out on our road trip and we were hungry, so we asked Siri for suggestions. "She" suggested Gander's, so we decided to give it a try. I was going to order the mini breakfast, but then, the country fried steak caught my eye, so I ordered that. But I didn't realize that it was basically two complete LARGE breakfasts: it came with the country steak, gravy, 2 eggs, toast and hash browns. I was rather embarrassed that I had 4 large plates set before me. The country fried steak was a bit chewy and didn't have much flavor, but the hashbrowns were really good. And there were a lot of them! The eggs were done to my liking as well. Sadly, because we were embarking on a trip, while I did take the leftovers, I never had the chance to eat them. Took by buddy there on Sunday for breakfast. I used to go here all the time. Really great breakfasts, fast service, pretty clean, etc. I kind of stopped going because they had a cook that was unable to make over easy eggs without breaking the yolks. Over easy eggs with broken yolks are pretty much really crappy scrambled eggs, not over easy, but I digress... We both ordered the Gander's breakfast. It consists of 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage links, 2 decent sized pieces of ham, hash browns and toast... YUM! I love eggs cooked over easy. That means the white membrane on top of the yolk should be cooked, the yolk should be runny and not broken. I love it when the edges of the whites are crispy. These were perfectly cooked! I always order my hashbrowns crispy. They didn't fail me! The bacon wasn't too crispy, the sausages were perfect and best of all, the ham consisted of real pieces of a real ham! No ham loaf or ham roll in this place! Now, I can't comment about any meal other than breakfast in this place. I don't think I've ever been there for anything else! If lunch and dinner are as good as their breakfasts, no worries!!! read more

We were traveling north on I-75 to go home after a week of camping, and eager for a good meal. After reading numerous good reviews, I decided to stop at Gander's with my gang for Friday night dinner. We were surprised to not have to wait for a table, but were told the ongoing construction in front of the restaurant has negatively impacted their business. We were greeted immediately and served promptly and with a smile. All of our orders were correct and the food itself, which is all cooked fresh, was delicious. We ordered hamburgers and roast beef dinners. I told them I wish they were closer so we could come more frequently. As it is, I hope they stay open through this challenging time so we can stop by again next time we are traveling through! read more

My first time visiting and I loved it!! I had the cod dinner (I chose the beer batter). It came with two sides. I had the clam chowder and coleslaw. Both are homemade and delicious. The fish was very good and a huge portion (six pieces!). The dinner also included rice pudding to top it off. It was tasty with real whip cream and cinnamon sprinkled on top. All this for just under $15. The service was fantastic! The server very caring and helpful with questions. The turnaround time from the order placed to get food was less than five minutes. Excellent! Thought about stopping at Tim Horton's on my way down to Toledo but then decided a full breakfast would be more enjoyable, and Gander's did beat a donut by a mile or two. I ordered the #2 breakfast, eggs with pancakes, and got the optional sausage links. The eggs in particular were excellent, cooked to a perfect over-easy. Sausage was good, not greasy or bland. Pancakes were a little doughy, which seems to be the case at a lot of diners. But overall a fine breakfast, with fast service, in a very clean and comfortable setting. read more

First time here and we were not disappointed. Not my rating of four stars is based on equivalent diners. I'm not judging this place against a high-quality sit down restaurant but other similar type of diners. My husband and I stopped him after a visit to Luna pier. We decided to share a patty melt and fries. We were one of two tables in the restaurant in our food arrived very quickly and it was blazing hot. I particularly liked the grilled bread at the patty melt.. Nothing special just your typical rye bread that was buttered and then grilled on the grill. Fries were good. Nothing exceptional but good. No regarding the Decour it definitely is dingy and outdated in there. Waitress was nice, not going but that's fine I wasn't looking to make a new best friend. This place will never be our first choice of where to dine in the southern area in Monroe County but it'll be good for a quick dinner here in there. Long story short, sometimes we need to just get out of Toledo and see the region from different perspectives. Sometimes the suburbs help. Sometimes we have to go a little farther. Today we say "F" it, and drove to Luna Pier. Why Luna Pier? We have no idea. It's a bizarre little lake front town, with a bunch of small quirky houses all smashed together enjoying the view from lake Erie. Frankly, it's not even that great of a view with the smoke stacks and nuclear plants off the in the distance. Still, it's a view. And it's a tad bit epic. We hit Gander's for the first time, mostly because it was SO close to Luna Pier Beach. In fact, it's closeness to the beach is a big reason why they are getting 4 stars instead of 3. The place is cute. It's got a VERY familiar small town, midwest vibe. All of the patrons seem to know each other, and the wait staff do a good job of making you feel like a local. There is a reason it's been around for 26 years. While we were in the mood for breakfast, all signs in the menu pointed to fried seafood as the logical choice. I ended up with the fried perch sandwich, and my lovely bride got her "go to" fried clams. The portions for both plates were pretty substantial, relying heavily on carbs to fill us up. The fries and mashed potatoes were generically perfect, as were the clams which are obviously flown in from some far off land. But my locally procured perch? It was perfect. Lovely. Just right. And it made me think of how much I'm missing out on regional seafood (or is that lakefood?) Sadly, even though we're a hop, skip & a jump away, Toledo restaurants just don't feature much Lake Erie fish. After we ate our filling lunch, we headed to the beach for some sight seeing. It was a great way to spend the afternoon. And that my friends is why this place is a 4 star joint. Location, location, location. read more

We had a pickup order here for breakfast and it was alright. My farmers omelette was pretty tasty. We ordered blueberry pancakes to share as a family. My kids enjoyed them, but I didn't like them at all. The batter tasted old or some thing? I'm not sure what it was, but it was definitely off, I couldn't eat more than a few bites, even with syrup. Bummer we missed this place for lunch or dinner! read more

We visited this morning, received a bill that was incorrect just based off from what was on it by almost $10 but after reviewing prices charged, not a single price we were charged matched what was marked on the menu. Really good food and good prices. Something for everyone kind of diner. Burgers are good and big. Fries are good. My daughter had her first coney dog and loved it. Lots of options for sides if fries aren't your thing, as is the case with our son. He was happy with apple sauce. My only drawback is that the bathrooms are pretty bad and could use a major update. But the service was prompt and no nonsense. We might have had a little pie for dessert but our ticket was on the table too fast so we didn't bother. Maybe next time. read more

Food was good, but really nothing to get too excited about. Just your typical diner breakfast. I will admit that the sausage gravy and bacon were very good. We were all fairly happy with our meals, but the service was pretty awful. We were ignored walking in the door, and had to eventually stop someone to ask if we should just seat ourselves. Our waitress had an equally cold attitude. Her first visit to our table, she grumbles, "one check or separate?". No smile, no greeting, no "have you had a chance to look over the menu?". Yikes. Seems like a locals place, and maybe you get the cold shoulder unless you're a regular. Who knows. What I do know is that I won't be back. read more

Ate here last week for lunch. It was actually the middle of the afternoon on a weekday so there was only one other customer in the place. I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich off the specials menu. Came with mashed potatoes and gravy for $6.69. Standard hot roast beef open face sandwich on white bread. Thought the beef was a little tough, but flavor was good. Good size portion. Vegetable of the day was (canned) green beans. Asked if I could have some with my lunch; they didn't charge me anything extra for. I ordered a piece of homemade apple pie to go. $2.49. Apples cooked perfectly. Server was very pleasant and took care of my requests. Easy to find off the highway. I'll return. read more

Classic breakfast diner. I had the early bird special: 4 sausage links, 3 eggs, very tasty biscuit, and a mountain of hash browns. Only $6. Me and my boyfriend have been eating at Gander's for at least the past 3 years since we have moved to Erie. We usually always go on Sunday mornings before everyone gets out of church or a little after noon time since it's a lot less crowded then as well. The food has been amazing each time and the staff is absolutely fabulous! They're always friendly and very kind. The prices are more than reasonable for the amount of food you get. I can never finish my plate without getting full first. read more
