Stay away! No food just a bar. No one likes the rude owner. How he keeps the electric on is a mystery to the whole town.

Great vibe friendly staff and awesome beers and burgers. Head on over to Archer Florida and find the Mustang Grill and grab that burger.

Entering it kind of reminds you of a farmhouse, I guess. Pretty standard furnishings and decoration for a country diner sort of place. Of course, we were there for breakfast, so the standard diner breakfast was on the menu. The full menu consists of burgers, sandwiches, and a couple of barbecue dishes. If there were more screens mounted on the walls I would call it a sportsbar, but that isn't the case. Our orders were taken, and I had gone for eggs, hashbrowns, and corned beef because it was St Patty's Day. Realistically one of the few times that I have legitimately had food that was appropriate for the holiday. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time for a group of ten, so the kitchen and staff knew what they were doing. The food was fine... nothing to really shout out about, but also not bad. It was what I expected it to be, and that was good enough.

I don't mind themed restaurants (they can be fun). This place was designed to model the Farmhouse where the ranch hands gathered for meals before and after a long day of riding. I dug it. It gave off a warm, welcoming, one-of-the-family vibe. Kasey was my server for the meal and she was frowning before I asked one question. I placed an order for one Country Fried Steak with sides of Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese, along with some Strawberry Shortcake to round out the meal. I soon saw Cantankerous Kasey begrudgingly returning with my victuals. I don't understand this attitude. Am I supposed to be grateful she deigned to work here? Anyway, if any of you are curious like me, you may have often wondered what it was like to spend a day in jail. To that end, I admit, I got myself hauled off to the County Hoosegow. Wanting to make the most out of my tax dollars, I booked my stay to include lunch. The dry bologna sandwich you receive, along with the juice bag to wash it down, is something you try to forget. As I looked at the slop my trustee, Kasey, placed before me, I began to long for the county jail government issue bologna. The Country Fried Steak was fresh from the freezer and cooked with the precision of Stevie Wonder passing his behind-the-wheel driving test. I've been hit with hockey pucks softer than this garbage. The gravy was made in the Sysco factory and this had to be their bottom-grade slush. It was as tasty as flour and water. Wait. The sides were a step down from the entree, if that is possible. Just look at the pictures and tell me, does anything look appetizing? While I am not one to ever judge a book by its cover, as looks can be deceiving. In this case, they are not, and the adage 'a picture speaks a thousand words' is spot on. The Collard Greens were obviously from an industrial can. Hey, don't get me wrong, all restaurants use a food service, but you don't have to be cheap about it and try to finagle the dining population by using the lowest quality they have to offer. The Mac & Cheese looked more like something a dog regurgitated than actual food. It was dry and pasty on the palate--just the way it is not supposed to be. The Strawberry Shortcake is also food service, not unlike the stuff you got in high school, only worse. Kudos, 1906 Farmhouse, you officially serve Swill sans the fly. At least on this visit. The Big Boy says, "I wouldn't serve this SWILL to a dead dog."

But when I first visited Harry and the Natives about 6 months ago I realized this place was different. Now, I can honestly say it's a place 'I look forward to' vs. a lot of The Villages food options which are 'places i settle for'. Pricing is fair for the quality you get. The drinks are Tiki inspired and delicious (I highly recommend the Village Dodo) and you can tell they pride themselves of freshness and quality. They have some of the best crab cakes I've ever had, a bit pricey but they are almost 100% crab (almost not binder/filler) and if you know the price of crab these days you'd understand the pricing. For me, a Village Dodo drink, Filet Mignon medium rare 'surf and turf' style with a crab cake, and creamed spinach side served outside with the tiki torches blaring is near perfection in a meal.

My mom was out of town so my dad and I went for an early Father's Day celebration. Unfortunately, it was one of the kitchen's off nights as the calamari which is normally cooked perfectly came out rubbery and overdone. Wait staff offered to have the kitchen remake it but my dad wasn't sure it would come out any better the second time, depending on how the kitchen was timing or judging the cook. He opted to get the voodoo pasta which I had ordered as well. The chicken in the voodoo pasta was also overdone and on the chewy side due. Pasta sauce was definitely bland in comparison to the sauce from a special the week prior that our same waiter had said was actually the voodoo sauce. Sad that nothing came out how we'd hoped, especially on a celebration day. One last note for readers: the dining room to the back right of the restaurant is extremely loud and hard to hear even those you are dining with, regardless of the number of tables filled.

Some of this is locally-produced like the honey, some not. Some is reasonable in price, some you'd do better at a supermarket on probably. However, the cheeseburger and fries I had--plus iced tea!--all were excellent. There's nowhere to eat inside but they have shaded pic-nic tables outside. They also have a drive-thru and most of their cooked food orders likely are to take home. Aside from burgers, they have other sandwiches, various plates and sandwiches made of their famous brisket, and daily specials which trend towards Southern homestyle favorites like meatloaf or roasted chicken. My burger was great: it tasted like a burger Dad or a friend's dad would grill--not one from any restaurant. It tasted truly homemade. This restaurant has an entry on the corner of the building, with outdoor seating along one side of the building. I opted for the outdoor seating as it was a nice day. I was escorted out to my table, and my drink order was taken. Going through the menu, I opted for a burger with fries. It was quite pleasant out, and waiting for my food was not a problem. The burger was quite good, and the fries were decent as well. The price point is a bit more than most of the sports bars out there, but the Tioga area tends to boost the cost of things a bit. It's been about a year since our last visit and here's what I've come up with. 1. The water is terrible. Please buy a filter. I think it's the worst water I've had in a Gainesville restaurant. 2. This place can't decide if it's a restaurant or bar. It's loud. Very loud when full. I couldn't even understand the server and my husband had to sit next to me. The bar is the focal point. It should really be in the other room off to the side. It takes up too much space and it's obnoxiously loud. 3. The menu: Again. It's a bar menu. Large selection of handhelds. Few limited mains. Some salads. There are appetizers but this is the weakest link on the menu. 4. I usually love their off menu drinks. But they were both lacking tonight. I even asked for more purée to boost the flavor. The problem was I couldn't taste the gin. Just seltzer. The issue I have when I go out to dinner I'm looking for a meal I won't make at home and although there is a huge chunk of the population that doesn't really care what they eat as long as they don't have to make it , I don't fall in that category. I'm a foodie. Have traveled the world and know a good meal when it sits in front of me. The food here is decent but the ambience and awful water leaves me coming here last minute to find a bite. But seriously, buy a filter for your tap. The clientele will thank you.
