Breaded Jalapeno Poppers
Sheila P.

Came here to watch one of the FIFA matches recently and it was packed! So lucky that my friend was able to reserve us some seats all the way in the back. I got some jalapeño poppers and they were soooo good! Filled with cream cheese and the breading was just perfect. I understand the service being the way it was due to it being packed, but my order still arrived in a timely manner and I was pleased :) would definitely like to try other veggie items on their menu next time.

You'd think an OG Yelper like me would've patronized all the Irish bars in the city by now. Especially one with an appropriate historical reference in its name, a legendary 18th-century Irish revolutionary and freedom fighter, a kind of Zohran Mamdani for Brit-averse Dubliners. But no, while I love all things Ireland, I had yet to enter the corner double doors of this old school tavern. Normally I'd be thrilled by a cozy place that serves such Emerald Isle standards as corned beef with cabbage, bangers & mash, and sausage rolls. However, as a genuine napper, a moderate sodium intake is something I have to consider as I find a legitimate excuse to order the $14 Large Irish Coffee (Photo 9). Well, it was colder than the Ring of Kerry and my thirst could scale the Cliffs of Moher. An obvious veteran of the establishment, the friendly, inclusive bartender knew how to make one with true finesse and just a touch of blarney. With a shot of Jameson, it was most satisfying, and I would've danced an Irish jig in celebration. However, such displays of whiskey-induced enthusiasm probably went the way of my sodium intake. Oh what the hell, would a bit of corned beef kill me? 10/10 service 5 stars to the lady running the show when we got there. She took care of us and everything we needed. 10/10 vibes had rugby matches and upon request threw on the ufc fight for me and the boys. The place is a real pub and isn't decorated head to toe in rainbows. 8/10 food I had Irish breakfast and it was solid. 1/10 water. With all due respect the water tasted like it came from the toilet. I'm not saying this as a snob either. I drink tap everywhere I go but this was bad tap water. Highly advise investing in a better filter. 4/10 Guinness. Below average to be honest. There's other spots with better creamy Guinness there

This Irish restaurant and bar offers a casual and homey vibe in a lively setting with quirky wall art and decor and a pool table in the back. Their website notes that they have live music at the venue on Friday evenings, but apparently this is not a thing, at least not at 7pm on the day we visited, in which games were being shown on the TVs instead. There are multiple large screen TVs all around, ideal for sports fans. But beware, the crowd here can get rowdy. The noise level was not very pleasant this past weekend as my partner and I tried to enjoy a meal before attending an event nearby. Service was a bit slow but very friendly. And it was about a 20-minute wait for our food to be ready. The chicken pot pie wasn't served in the traditional style. Rather, it was a small bowl of chunky flavorful broth, a nice mix of chicken and veggies, with a light & flaky puff pastry on top. It was low on the carbs but definitely satisfying, I finished every last bite. My bf enjoyed his crispy chicken salad, made with fresh ingredients and topped off with plenty of avocado. We also got some complimentary soda bread served to our table which was yummy with its crumbly texture and butter spread. To drink, the red sangria was delightful. Altogether, we were pleased with our recent experience at The Napper Tandy.

The Napper Tandy is so inviting and cozy! Pull up a seat and order a delicious drink and something to eat. The staff here are great and the vibe is super relaxing while also feeling familiar. They've got a pool table, games, and some larger tables if you aren't wanting to sit at the bar. The bar seating is also nice and feels very community forward. Definitely stop by during holidays as the tasty holiday cocktails are a definite must!

Great pub for watching the game or chilling on a padded bench outside. Fish and Chips were really fantastic- chunky pieces of fish that had good seasoning, tasty tartar sauce / sides, steak fries. Would order again I also like the Rueben sandwich- definitely ask for the "brown sauce". They will add it to the tray of condiments brought out with the meal. Takes the sandwich and fries to another level. The big food items feel expensive ($18/meal) but the portions are quite large and quality is high. This is offset by a wide beer selection that is $8/pint. - food and beer is amazing - super friendly staff make you feel welcome - outdoor patio is very comfortable - interesting rotating specials

The Shepherds Pie was really great The taste was outstanding. The corned Beef and Cabbage was ok the vegetables were good. Unfortunately the Corned Beef was a bit dry for my liking .I was imagining the fork tender goodness and juiciness but I didn't get it. The service was absolutely wonderful the Bartender was very friendly and she was very nice. The place was very interesting and unique. The decor and the painted door was eye catching. The people were really friendly.

I usually am there for trivia nights on Wednesday, and it's awesome but the staff and food are the best part. Cozy bar, surprisingly great food, and of course great drinks. Try the chicken pot pie! Crispy pastry, tasty soup. A hit in any man's league.

If you are in the Mission District in San Fransisco & you are in the mood for an Irish Pub, The Napper Tandy is the spot. There are several tv. screens for watching different games. They have great food (Shepherds Pie, Fish N Chips, Stew...) Marrissa was our Irish server & she greeted us with a warm personality & was mighty friendly. She knew all the regulars who frequent the spot Nice beverages sealed the deal We shall return!

Fish and chips with a Guinness, natch.
Bob K.

Sometimes I'm a walking cliche. Take Irish pubs. I'll walk in, order fish & chips, a shot of Jameson, and a Guinness. If they do it right, good review will follow. Nappy Tandy is in the Mission, and my barmaid was Danielle, with a lovely accent and blond ponytail. A few other blokes surrounded the bar. The door behind me was left open, a questionable choice when the weather was upper 50s at best, but it was fine. The shot was nice, the Guinness pour professionally done in two stages to optimize a centimeter head. The fish came in fried tubes, which was odd at first, but plenty of white flesh inside, piping hot. Good quantity of chips, with malt and ketchup. All of it delivered with a charming lily, to lend verisimilitude. Another place to add to my list of where to get the best...whatever, depending on the neighborhood.

The Fish & Chips are the best I've had in the city! Not greasy at all and simply delightful. They also have a solid selection of beers on tap; I enjoyed a Deschutes IPA and a Guinness. A lot of people were ordering Old Speckled Hen, which I want to try next time--I've never heard of that beer and it seems quite popular. The menu features all the hits of a British pub. I want to try their Shepherd's Pie next time, and my husband wants to get the bangers and mash. He was hoping they had a scotch egg, but that's the one item not on the menu. Oh, and some sticky toffee pudding would be awesome! The only downside was a large party of eight people with screaming children. We can't seem to escape that in restaurants lately--even in a pub. Ugh, it was terrible and sadly put a damper on an otherwise delightful experience. Chuck E. Cheese energy is not the vibe. Despite that, we will be back.

I hate leaving negative reviews, but my experience with the owner of this bar was so upsetting that…read moreI feel compelled to share it. I'm currently living in San Francisco for six weeks while caring for my father, who is recovering from a double lung transplant at UCSF. It's been an emotionally exhausting time, and I was excited to find a neighborhood bar within walking distance where I could occasionally relax and decompress. I first discovered this bar after a trip to Trader Joe's. During that visit, the bartenders, especially Chris, and the rest of the staff were welcoming, friendly, attentive, and wonderful. Based on that experience, I was looking forward to returning. Unfortunately, my interactions with the owner have been the complete opposite. On my second visit, the owner repeatedly ignored me while I was trying to order. When he noticed my service dog, who was leashed, quietly sitting beside me, and causing absolutely no disruption, he loudly yelled across a crowded bar, "Get your dog out of here." I calmly explained that he is a service dog. The owner immediately rolled his eyes and demanded to know what service my dog provides. Because I did not feel comfortable disclosing personal medical information to a room full of strangers, I asked if I could privately show documentation instead. He became increasingly hostile, telling me that he "knew his rights" and that I "didn't know anything," while continuing to demand an explanation. Feeling embarrassed and cornered, I reluctantly answered his question. He rolled his eyes again and asked, "What do you want?" When I ordered a Corona, he responded by pointing his finger in my face and saying, "You mean you want a Corona PLEASE." He refused to serve me unless I repeated the order exactly as he demanded. I was shocked, humiliated, and left the bar in tears. Several patrons nearby apologized to me and expressed how uncomfortable they were witnessing the interaction. A few days later, I decided to give the bar a second chance and brought my partner with me. My partner was seated with my service dog while I walked to the bar to order. The owner immediately recognized me and once again said, "Get your dog out." I calmly reminded him that we had already had this conversation and that I had previously explained my dog's service role. He responded by asking whether I was providing a service to the dog or whether the dog was providing a service to me. After I again explained the situation, he asked what I wanted to order. I ordered two dirty gin martinis, and before I could even finish speaking, he began walking away. When he returned with the check, I asked him to keep the tab open. He again corrected me and said I needed to say, "Keep it open PLEASE." At that point, I asked why he seemed to treat me this way every time I came in. His response was, "Piss off. Finish your martini and you're never allowed back here again. Get out." Once again, I left in tears. Once again, nearby patrons appeared shocked by the way I was being treated. I've worked in professional environments my entire career and strive to treat everyone with kindness, patience, and respect. I was never rude, disruptive, or confrontational. I simply wanted to enjoy a drink at a neighborhood bar while accompanied by my service dog. The bartenders and staff were wonderful. My experience with the owner, however, was one of the most humiliating and hostile customer service experiences I have ever had.

The high decorative ceilings, stained glass accents, dark wood finishes, vintage-style lighting, and unique artwork throughout the restaurant give the place a warm and authentic feel. The inside has plenty of character, with cozy booths, classic pub seating, and a spacious layout that somehow still feels intimate and welcoming. The décor and atmosphere alone make this place worth visiting, whether you're there for drinks, dinner, or simply to take in the ambiance. The food definitely lived up to the setting. I ordered the beer-battered fish and chips, and they were excellent. The fish was flaky and fresh with a crispy, golden batter that had great flavor without feeling too greasy or heavy. The fries paired well with the dish, and the tartar sauce added a nice finishing touch. I also tried the loaded potato skins, which were packed with cheese, bacon, sour cream, and green onions--flavorful and a great appetizer to share. Service was friendly and attentive, and everything came out hot and fresh. Between the quality food, generous portions, and one of the most unique interiors I've seen in San Francisco, Johnny Foley's Irish House is absolutely worth stopping by.
