This bar and restaurant looks like a small corner bar but once you walk in it is very spacious and even has an outside patio full of plants and waterfall. The bartender/server was very attentive by checking on me multiple times that made grabbing the check not an eternity. I had a meat lovers pizza that was absolutely delicious. Not sure if it was worth $28 but I did enjoy it. I asked the lovely server/bartender to pick my beer and she did great. I definitely recommend this spot and if I am in this part of town again, I will definitely stop by. read more

Last night (June 20) my fiancé and I arrived at the Mars Bar to celebrate the retirement & 60th birthday party of our long time friend along with around 40 other mutual friends. We arrived around 8pm to a great Open Bar & delicious buffet - and had a total blast celebrating with our friends. The bartenders were all very professional & knowledgeable, and made awesome cocktails (like spiced moscow mules) and beer drinks. We would recommend the Mars Bar to anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday or retirement party. Came here after work with a group of coworkers for a happy hour. Divided into three sections, Mars Bar consists of the main bar area, a dance floor, and an outdoor patio dining area. Due to the rain, we pretty much stayed in the bar area the entire time. There are plenty of both table and bar seating options available in the bar area, and both staff and bartenders were quick to take our orders. There is a pretty good selection of bar appetizers to choose from, and everything that we ordered was sizable and enjoyable. The bathroom situation here is a bit oddly constructed. There is a women's restroom inside. But the men's restroom is a separate addition that can only be accessed from the outside. read more

I love that Mars Bar is divey yet vibrant. This spot is a chill yet fun vibe, especially the back patio on a nice sunny day. Perfect for a quick lunch break or relaxing drink after work, it's truly a versatile space where I feel comfortable coming alone or with a group of friends. They have free pool but the floor is slanted. It's not ideal but one of the staff members was kind enough to stuff some paper plates under one side to help level the table and it worked pretty well. There's regular programming that promotes a strong sense of community, like drag brunch and open mic nights, and the bar staff I've met are so friendly and amazing: Shane is really fun, Noah makes my favorite palomas, and Chance makes me feel extremely taken care of. On top of that, I always get the wings here! They're not that big but it's usually enough for me. I love that they're saucy yet still crispy; get the mango habanero, but if you're not feeling saucy, I also like the lemon pepper. read more

Stopped in for lunch while on jury duty. Had a great grilled chicken sandwich with side salad. The choices for side are salad or fries with a Caesar salad, or tater tots for an up charge. The staff was super friendly and service was fast, which is what I needed on limited time. Everything was fresh and very tasty. It was a nice day out, so I ate on the open air patio. I'm glad this place is close to the court house. Also full bar! But not for me today. But I'll be back again for sure. read more

Once a Beloved Dive, Now Just a Ripoff I've been coming to this bar for over 15 years. It used to be a proper dive--gritty, fun, full of character, and always packed with a rowdy but respectful crowd. It wasn't fancy, but it had soul. That soul seems to be gone. Lately, the place feels emptier than ever. What once buzzed with energy now feels like a sleepy Sunday afternoon. I think I know why: the service has completely tanked, and the prices have skyrocketed. I was charged $20 for a martini--and to make it worse, my friend ordered the exact same thing for the next round and got a different price. Are we charging based on what the customer looks like now? This place was never about fancy menus or overpriced drinks. It was a staple because it was real--a come-as-you-are kind of bar where you could blow off steam without draining your wallet. Post-COVID has been hard on this neighborhood, but raising prices and killing the vibe isn't the answer. $50 for two drinks in a no-frills dive? No thanks. We were shopping at the Jewlery mart and the security crew recommended Mars for lunch and drinks. Place was walking distance Very clean upon entry and inviting. Noah was the bartender. We ordered chicken wings, pulled pork sandwich, French fries and Taco salad. Food was flavorful and cooked to the appropriate temperature. Large portions and quick service. Fun place will definitely go Back. I ordered an old fashioned and was not a fan. No orange peel, fancy cherry, or stir which really makes a difference in the taste. Had I known ahead of time I would not have ordered but that's just me. My brother enjoyed his old fashioned they way it was served. I went five stars because we really enjoyed our time with Noah And the food was awesome. Just need to Tighten the old fashioned up. My burger was raw, pretty bummed about it. I've been here a few times and usually a good experience. The service is generally quick, never a long wait. THe place is always clean and well kept. Just upset I guess over the food I ordered this one time. Hopefully things will change on my next experience. read more

Had a great time here at Mars Bar. Went to Thursday trivia with a group of friends and ended up winning a few rounds. Prizes varied from drink vouchers to shirts. The bartenders were kind and funny, and regularly came up to us to check if we needed anything. The patrons of the bar here seem to be regulars, but everyone was friendly to us. The venue itself is larger on the inside than what I expected. There is a covered outside patio part that has space for live music events. We ordered various rounds of drinks and onion rings, which was great. The pool table in the back was slanted, which made it unplayable. I returned again yesterday for another chance. David, the owner has remedied my concerns and given a full refund for it. Today, I had a juicy Mars Burger with fries. The burger is cooked to perfection. It's soft, buttery, tender, and oh~so delicious. Fries is an improvement from my last visit and cooked just right this time around. All in all, this is the food I remembered from Mars Bar. The place isn't too busy today and I love the chill backyard vibe. The sun shines just right and it makes it feel like I'm in some tropical place somewhere. It is just missing a tiki bar but otherwise a great place to chill during your work lunch. Terrible Customer service! I walked into the restaurant to place an order. I briefly stood their she would attend to me, then I moved towards the end of the counter where she was headed. I stood their for about five minutes, I never got any acknowledgement..As a matter of fact she served drinks to about other people as I stood their waiting patiently. ** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the shelter-in-place order currently in effect. ** Apparently it took a pandemic for me to go to Mars. I didn't need a rocket to get there, just a self-made mask and a pair of disposable gloves as I was taking a walk on the empty SoMa streets. I remember reading on Eater that Mars was offering takeout, and silly me, I thought it was just a bar with rowdy customers who already ate at a taco truck. But my dismissive nature made me unaware of their surprisingly robust menu of grill favorites. Unlike most places offering takeout during these dark days of COVID-19, they allowed you to walk in, order, and even wait, although the chairs were appropriately stacked on the tables. There were a couple of guys who looked like they made themselves at home at the bar. So much for social distancing. The server, however, wore disposable gloves and kept away from me as best she could when I ordered the $14 Chicken Taco Salad. I was just happy to get home and not have to get my wok out to make my riced cauliflower. It was pretty good, simply made with a large chicken breast, charred on the grill and sliced resting on a bed of chopped romaine, accessorized with black olives, shredded cheddar, pico de gallo, and corn chip strips (photo: https://bit.ly/3esRYLx). There was a creamy chili dressing on the side which I used sparingly. I'm happy to have this neighborhood option because it was brave of them to keep going. Always a good time at Mars Bar. I've been here a number of times because I work close by. I have consistently had a great time with great drinks and great service. They have outdoor seating which is a huge plus in my book, full on with umbrellas at each table for shade and all. Today in particular, I ordered drinks and food. I ordered the burger because it was highly recommended by the bartender. I mistakenly didn't realize the burger came with bacon on it until the burger arrived. The bartender was SO nice about it all and got me another burger without bacon super fast. He also let us box up the first burger and said to bless someone else with it - he even brought out new fries and everything, the whole nine yards!! I felt so accommodated and taken care of, not once did he make me feel bad or get mad - even though this was totally my fault. This is the type of service that keeps you coming back to a place, I can't express how much gratitude I feel for the stellar service. I will absolutely be back! Thanks Mars Bar!!! read more

The food here is tasty and the staff friendly, but the ownership seems to insist on only paying one person to work the very busy midday shift. Frequently the service is slow to non-existent because one person is serving more than 20-25 parties. I hate owners that understaff a business. read more

I was in town on a camping trip and googled a "Good burger". From the moment I walked in, I wanted to love this place.... but sadly service was not amazing. I had to repeatedly ask for another beer when my glass sat empty (3 drinks total) and only 5 people total at the bar, which is where I was sitting. I ordered onion rings for an app after a long day of hiking and a burger with side salad. Burger came and halfway though, I asked if the rings were still coming, she clearly forgot and just ordered them to which she never came back to ask if I was ok (it's ok we all make mistakes but avoidance makes it worst)... again this is where my glass sat empty on the bar rail for 9 minutes. When I asked for the check finally, nothing was offered at a discount for the lack of service. I figured she would at least comp the rings, but nope. So sad.... read more
