One of the best dive bars in town. It's my go-to local where the music is good, the crowd friendly and the atmosphere soluble. RATS....This happened to us LAST NIGHT: From out of nowhere, a giant black RAT appeared, scurried across the bar, crawled over my girlfriend's hand and scratched it as she screamed and pulled her hand away. We immediately told the bartender in absolute shock. The male bartender pointed at where the word "Rats" was spray painted on the door and acted unsurprised. The other female bartender seemed surprised, shocked and concerned but he acted upset she cared. Oh yeah, she SAW the rat too. So we then get up to leave, are told we need to pay for our drink still. Are you KIDDING ME? A rat just scratched my girlfriends hand. A damn rat. Luckily a bar patron offers to pay and we get the hell out of there. We then go to St.Paul's hospital because her hand is throbbing and she's worried about rabies. We go to the hospital, and they fast track her through all the other people who have huge cuts or other fairly serious medical conditions. We get straight in and see a doctor within 15 minutes. He tells us he's very glad we came so fast, gives her a rabies/tetnis combo shot, tells us not to worry because most rats don't have rabies but to watch out for infection either way. I love dive bars, but this was a little over the top. My girlfriend was crying and it ruined our night. Plus, Im pretty sure rats shouldn't be on the counters. Maybe some people are into that, but seriously that was pretty disgusting to see in a Vancouver bar. read more

I'm over the whole hidden place vibe. This place banks too much on being underground (and presumably cool) but could really use a slap of proper service and an attitude adjustment to boot. Found the servers slow and snarky, especially when trying to make their way around their own narrow bar. The music (volumes) mixed badly, adding to my annoyance. I was pleased with the scotch selection at the bar, just wished it hadn't taken 10minutes to get a drink from a server who barely looked busy. With that in mind I wasn't likely to order food, though I'd normally go for some of the comfort food options listed on the chalkboard (mmm....mac and cheese). I just don't get why anyone would find it comforting to eat beside some dead animal heads though. The quasi-colonial veneer of this place is a little too much for my palate. read more

This bar is an absolute disgrace! The bar staff are the most ignorant people I have ever met. The bar staff here have a big issue serving tourists and people who live in Vancouver but are from another country. They refuse to treat you like a customer because they have the opinion that foreigners don't tip even though 80% of this city are foreigners. I will never go back here and would strongly advise anyone who is from another country to avoid this over priced bar. You will be told to wait 10 minutes as they serve English speaking locals and ask you to tip because you're foreign. Absolute disgrace and personally I have been to bars all over the world and have never been treated as bad in a bar in my life. To top it off, the bar staff were drinking themselves and got drunk as the night went on and more aggressive with us. Love! Sick atmosphere, I feel like i'm straight out of a sexy 30's jazz lounge. Next time i'll be sure to bring my feather boa and garter belt... As the name would suggest the Narrow is more of a bar than a restaurant but from what I experience the food is dirt cheap and top quality. I had the best hummus of my life and satisfying macaroni and cheese for under 15$ (for both). I warn: the drinks are more expensive, however so this isn't the spot to go to get out of your mind drunk on a single bill. The music, how could i forget, is fantastic. Eating delicious food with imported beer in a sexy atmosphere while listening to The Cure? I though I needed to die before going to heaven... If the other reviews haven't informed you, it has no storefront. It's the back door behind a gallery on 3rd and Main. But don't worry, you'll hear the music and it's really not too hard to find. Its hidden- no sign just a dingy door and then you're in a creepy dexter-type hallway, another door then awesomeness-- of the casual, relaxed, intimate, and close-knitted kind. Decorum- plain enough, with its quirks: antlers on the wall, red walls, black bar and stools and chairs and tables. One big hallway with a bathroom hallway perpendicular to main room. Its all about the atmosphere and mood. Relaxed, trendy, and cool. Food and drink prices, standard "pricy" kind in vancouver; but the place itself makes it well worth it. Brooklyn Lager is $6. Pretty standard. Food is solid; sorry, not amazing. Great place for any kind of night. I actually give it a 4.5 but for some reason it wont let me do that. Man, I love this place! Came here on Sunday for a friend's birthday, and fortunately, it wasn't raining, so as planned, we sat outside in the Tiki bar/patio. It's super tiny out there, which is really the only down side. One large table which seats 6 comfortably, but you can jam in 8 or 10 if you just want a place to park your drink. There are 2 other small tables that seat 4 or so, but that's it. If you're planning to meet up with a bunch of people for some patio time, this probably isn't the best option. drink menu features traditional tiki drinks as well as newer or twists on traditional style tiki drinks. You can also buy the tiki cup if you want...can't recall how much they are now..I had too many Chi-Chi's (so good by the way!!) to remember! The specialty drinks run about $8-11 if I recall which seem reasonable for all that boozy fruity goodness. They do have other standard stuff..your typical hi-balls, beer, etc, but I wasn't drinkin' those, and I doubt I'd remember how much they were anyway! The bartender "Rocket Rod" is friendly and makes a damn good drink. Definitely a good idea to check to see if the Tiki bar is open, if that's what you've got your heart set on, as I believe it's weather dependent, and when it's sunny, it fills up almost instantly. Also, I think the Tiki drinks might only be available on the patio..not sure though as I haven't been inside since the patio opened. For that matter, check what time the lounge itself opens, as when we got there after 6pm on Sunday, the stools were still all stacked on top of the tables. This place is just like it's name - NARROW. Inside is more like a wide hallway. It has a bar to sit at, a table that you can fit 6 at, and then some tables - maybe 4 or 5, along the side which probably fit 2-4 people. It too fills up fast. I've eaten here more than a few times, and I've always been really happy with what I've had, and the prices are reasonable. Didn't eat this is time, so I'll save the food comments for the next time I do. Now that I'm back in East Van, and walking distance I can definitely see myself being here more often, whenever possible. Doesn't hurt either that almost a dozen of my friends are walking distance to Narrow as well. Yay! read more

Hidden bar with alright cocktail menu. Got the pimm's cup and they use the gingerale that's made with real ginger not those pop gingerales. Props for that. All cocktail prices are tax inclusive. Pretty small but hipster place with lots of personality. read more

Great little pub if not filled to the rafters, which isn't very hard to do as it is tiny, it has an eclectic vibe that is the norm for the area, I hope it survives a rent increase as I can't see the cash register full with the small space and 1-2 beer an evening crowd. Well it's there, and it's got tons of sun and it's staffed by @ShamefultikiRod who makes amazing beverages with daily specials and is a great guy for a smile and chat. Absolute worst service I have ever received. If I could give it a 0 star I would. The girls behind the bar were taking shots and holding conversations ignoring the busy bar in front of them and going out of their way not to make eye contact with their guests. Once I finally got my order in They tried to over charge me and when I stopped the transaction and asked for a correction she flipped me off and told me to f*** off.... This is a secret hideaway that you'll never find unless you know what to look for, and if you use Yelp. not too loud, great atmosphere, casual and eclectic, nice vibes overall. It's narrow, too. I have been 4 times and each visit has exceeded the previous. Friendly bartenders, food that is much better than you'd expect (fish tacos are on POINT), warm comfortable spot for a date or a drink with friends. Their cocktails are, as you'd hope, well done, and not too expensive. (A little under market price in this ridiculous Vancouver scene). Always great tunes on, I guess the barman picks the records. Used to like this place. The bartender girl has the worst attitude.. She is mostly by herself...stressing out...yelling at ..."what do you want?" thats how she asked everyone. such an unpleasant environment to be in. People feel sorry for her running the bar by herself. This is just awful! Sometime she calls another guy in for help and he has a shittier attitude. Mr cool doesn't talk or smile, actually, they both don't really smile or talk. It's like a little kids being told to go clean their rooms. Should not work at a place if they are not enjoying it. Great basement bar. While the crowd tends to be young with a heavy weighting towards tween women my view as an older gentleman was that this is a great beer and simple shot bar. The cocktail I had was mediocre but our bartender knew his beer very well and was nice and chatty on a pretty low key mid-week evening. The aesthetic is very cool and the bar vibe was friendly - we did not feel it was a clickish place as the young men and women around us were talkative and friendly to some out of town visitors who were asking questions. I've had some good times and some good drinks at The Narrow. My only beef is with the layout... yes, it's an awkwardly shaped space, but it's primarily filled with tables for four or more, yet most of the people who come are in pairs, so those tables get filled with twosomes. The atmosphere may be dark and quirky, but the bartender was really friendly... Especially when I was half expecting some Hell's Angel to yell at me for a password. This is a pretty neat spot. Kind of hidden away, which adds a feeling of exclusivity. The menu has some interesting comfort food and the taxidermy inside makes for a unique ambiance. The inside is dark so its more a winter hangout in there but the tiki patio out back is amazing in the summer!!!! We live super close so its easy to just pop in there from time to time. The drinks are good and the bartenders are always super nice and chill. Its a hidden back alley amazing spot that feels like a different world as soon as you sit down. The blueberry mojito was especially nice and the food is decent. Menu is small but everytime Ive gone me and whoever is with finds something on the menu to enjoy. A small great spot to let an evening pass no matter what time you get there, and again the inside is awesome and mega cozy in the winter :-) oh and tiki lounge is only 5-10 on sunny days I believe. read more

This place is a cross between a dive bar and speakeasy. Cyan was our bartender and she was so friendly and accommodating, she even made us a list of recommended places to visit the rest of our trip! The bar has a good selection of craft and local beer and excellent hand crafted cocktails. We tried the mini-hotdogs and they were very good on perfectly toasted buns.
