They offer a $5 day pass option for guests, so if, like many in the greater Lake George area you are visiting for a portion of the summer, it's an excellent option which other gyms in the area do not offer. The "Anytime" part of anytime fitness is only for full members with a key card - the day pass is only when the gym is staffed (Tues-Th 11a-7p, Fri-Sat 8a-4p right now), which is understandable. I didn't inquire as to the membership rates for obvious reasons, but if you are up here full time and the rates are competitive, I'd strongly recommend it - the gym is incredibly clean, with excellent equipment - much newer, nicer equipment than most of the fancy, presumably more expensive NYC gyms I've been to, in fact. The staff is friendly and its one of the few gyms I've been to where they actually play quality music, so much so that I wouldn't have left without working out had I forgot my iPod (which I *might* have done before at other gyms). My one quibble would be that there isn't really a formal locker room area, just a couple of large, clean bathrooms with one shower. I realize this is a bit of an outgrowth of location, and that most people in non-city gyms just drive here and leave the grooming for home, but I still appreciate having the option to comfortably shower/change and go somewhere directly from the gym, which I don't think I'd want to do here. Would also worry about a wait for a bathroom/locker at more crowded times of day. But whether you're looking for an easy no-frills temp. vacation gym option or for a new permanent gym upstate, I think the quality of this place makes it well worth it.

Walked in to work out and noticed Fox News wasn't on any of their many TVs. When asked, staff flat-out said they're "not allowed" to put it on. So let me get this straight -- dozens of televisions, nonstop sports, random reality nonsense, and selectively approved news channels, but one mainstream news network is banned? That's not "judgment free," that's controlled and biased. I'm here to lift weights, not be quietly told what viewpoints are acceptable. If Planet Fitness wants to act like a politically filtered bubble instead of a gym, they should be honest about it. Plenty of other gyms manage to treat adults like adults and let them choose what they watch. Do better -- or at least stop pretending this place is neutral! The coaches are very friendly here and the workouts will wipe you out almost as much as a good CF workout. You don't use heavy weights in these classes. Instead, you exercise for 45 minutes straight using body weight, dumbbells, bands, etc. Overall, I like the setting and classes. The cost is $179/month if you don't want to commit to 6 months or longer so the price isn't for the faint of heart. Also, they charge a $15 cancellation fee if you don't cancel 12 hours or further out for a class. You need to give 30 days notice even when you're a month to month member. If you have a job where your schedule can change last minute you might want to skip joining as you'll rack up cancellation fees. The fees are really my biggest pet peeve with this place. Other than that, you'll get a good workout.

I signed up for a package that was $299 because their website said the weekend was "open to the public". The day of - they had a sign to the left of the front door and on the door to the studio that said it was "Closed to the Public". I just escalated it to an appeal on Paypal sending screenshots showing that on their Twitter and Facebook it still even says Teachers only (I'm not a teacher) and the shot of the flyer on the glass of the front door saying "Closed to the Public", a screenshot of her website that said "Open to the Public" as well as a screenshot of an email I sent her immediately at 8:07 in the morning showing she lied about when I contacted her to paypal.

One sister bailed so there were five of us. After he set each of us up on our bikes, we did a "warm up" on the TRX that quickly had us all in a full sweat. Then onto the bikes. A projector screen came down and we biked through a town in France while Bob kept us going with a range of pace, resistance and positions that created challenging intervals set to a fun and varied playlist. All the while he was enthusiastic and encouraged us in a positive, not shouty way and made sure we were all comfortable on our bikes. Highly recommend!
