On an absolutely glorious Friday afternoon, we took the elevator at the Thompson to its roof top bar called The Nest. Very nice rooftop bar in the Thompson Hotel. Went there for some drinks and food with coworkers. We had to pay $100 deposit to reserve a space and after seeing how crowded it was up there, it was definitely worth to have a reservation. The view at the rooftop was amazing, I could see The Wheel in the background. We got the giant flamingo to share and there were a lot of servings, probably around 15 or so of the glasses they provided. It was very refreshing to drink. I ordered beef skewers and got three small skewers with about 4 bite sized pieces. It was grilled to a medium consistency which was just a tad bit raw for me. My friend and I arrived at 5pm on a Friday. There was a short line of people waiting to get their name on the waitlist with the hostess. If you have a larger group, the wait might be longer. There's a bar inside and an outdoor patio section that makes the time pass quickly. We enjoyed a bowl of clam chowder and a drink before we went up. There's an app that you can download to see how many parties are ahead of you. When they're ready to send you up, they'll send you a text. Very easy process! I'm actually glad that they regulate the capacity since it wasn't uncomfortably crowded. There was a good mix of people that would come and go. It wasn't a pretentious scene and most people were casually dressed. Though, you could also go dressed up as well. It was easy to get a drink at the bar. We honestly went there for the view. Most of the roof top lounges I'm used to have a strict dress code. So for me to be in a hoodie, joggers and yeezys I was able to be comfortable and not dressed up. The atmosphere was amazing. Though my only issue was the pricy drinks it was still worth the visit. Perched atop the Thompson, this bar/lounge space may have one of the most stunning vantage points of the market and waterfront I've found in Seattle. View aside, The Nest is a scene and they know it. Even in the middle of the week, expect to put your name on the list downstairs with the hostess. Conveniently they do take down your cell phone so you can explore other options nearby till your name is called. Then, up the elevator you go till the doors open to reveal a wall of greenery and an uber trendy Nest sign as a greeter welcomes you inside and checks your ID. Confusingly, expect a second round of inquiry once you get around the corner. Who are you? Do you want to be on another list for a table? In my opinion, it would've made more sense to ask these things when we first got on the list downstairs (or when our phone buzzed and we checked in downstairs), but what do I know. I can see why some call the staff pretentious, although personally I found them fairly affable, just all performing the lines they were trained to deliver. Be aware that 20% gratuity is already included in any bill, as seems par for the course with many tourist places around the country. Although I never tried the food (not sure if I even saw a food menu), the cocktails were fairly average. While they were on the pricey side, that is to be expected at such a scene-driven spot. My biggest complaint was actually the taste of the drinks themselves, all seeming slightly imbalanced like the bartender was following some standard recipe and mixed up the proportions. The Hummingbird erred on the side of cloying, and the Old Fashioned was far less smooth than it should have been. I've had better cocktails for sure. We were fortunate to find friends with a table, which made the experience that much more comfortable. Don't know anyone inside and didn't plan ahead by booking a spot? That is a problem. Even if you request to be put on the waiting list, don't expect a call, we never did get one that room opened up for us. Otherwise expect to stand or mill near an awkward pillar in the center of the room with a laughable amount of seating, completely missing out on the atmosphere you came for. The Nest may not be the best drink you've ever had, nor can its scene rival the lounges of New York, Miami, and Vegas. Caveats aside, that view though...it is worth going to see at least once, especially if you're a tourist visiting the city. read more

I happened to come here on a random weekday in the middle of the day, so I managed to snag a seat by the window in between reservations. The greenhouse affect was strong! But no one who worked there seemed to care that patrons were very uncomfortable. Love love the view from the nest! Seattle already has one of the best skylines, but on a perfect sunny day, as the sun is setting it surpasses "best" and goes into "mind blowing!" The nest itself is pretty fun, swanky, a good place to people watch, Depending on which night of the week you go, obviously. Dress is anything from casual, to work attire to "going out" wear towards the weekend. It is on top of a hotel so you are going to get a variety. The place itself is small and not to large so you feel like you can still talk with your company and not feel lost. There's lots of Nibble's to pick from on the menu and the service seems good. My favorite were the yucca chips and then sea salt and vinegar popcorn. There is a covered portion to the bar so if the weather is a little crummy you can sit inside and still enjoy the view; there is also a deck outside with long tables so you can enjoy the nice warm nights. Came here within the first few weeks of opening. It was definitely still working out it's kinks but the view was beautiful and the cocktails were stiff and tasty. Service has major room for improvement and hopefully the whole check-in process is less awkward as time goes on... When my BF and I went, the hostess was having trouble getting someone to respond to her on her headset and once we did get to the rooftop, we had multiple waitstaff bring other tables' orders/check to us while we waited 30+ mins for 2 cocktails. I get the whole idea behind the mandatory 20% tip, but either 1) provide service that actually equates to me paying more than the average 18% I give, or 2) maybe hold off on that mandatory initiative for the first few months until the logistics are better organized and the staff becomes more experienced. I can definitely see how people can perceive this place as pretentious but I also see that this place is trying to be an experience that people seek out when they want to do something a little more "special" than your neighborhood cocktail bar. It's probably not somewhere you're gonna go drunk bar-hopping or the type of place you'll frequent weekly for happy hour but it's kinda nice to have a legit rooftop in Seattle.... I arrived at about 7:30pm last Friday night and the hostess greeted me very kindly on the bottom floor. She let me know they had just filled up but that I was first on the list. I walked over to the waiting area, a pleasant area between the lobby and bottom floor cafe/restaurant, and a nice gentleman asked me if I wanted to order a drink. I politely declined and proceeded to wait until they called my phone. I received a text at about 7:45pm and went up the elevator to The Nest. Upon walking out of the elevator, there was yet another waiting list to get a table (this is where they check ID). This is where I would take off a star as I ended up waiting for over an hour for a table, even though it seemed there were plenty (there's a lot of communal sitting so expect to sit by strangers). I ended up bellying up to the bar, where I honestly would have rather stayed! Jeremy and Katie (bartenders) were great and took care of my girlfriends and I. They were friendly, knowledgable, and made delicious cocktails! Jeremy even told us to go outside when the sun started setting; most beautiful place in Seattle to watch the sunset! Judging from other reviews, I expected these employees to be pretentious. They were the exact opposite and I will definitely be coming back! Losing half a star for the entry experience and quality of liquor that didn't match the high class atmosphere. Upon entering the hotel lobby to access the elevators we were stopped short and asked for our names and the number in our party and for our IDs. Oh ok I suppose this is where we check in for The Nest. We gave the info and stood in the lobby for about 15 minutes, dogging people checking into the hotel and baggage carts. Waiting is fine but we had no indication on what we were waiting for. Were they full? Is there a wait? The hostess just stood there, I was never sure if she was listening to her ear piece our what. Finally we were allowed into the elevator. We reach the rooftop to see about 60% of the tables available, no idea what the wait was for, but this places is stunningly beautiful, 5 star class and views. My wife orders a cocktail and I ask for an Old Fashioned. Then the waitress says, would you like that with our well bourbon, Hevan Hill, it's from Kentucky? Hevan Hill? Really? The cocktails were $17 and up so I assumed mine off the menu Old Fashioned would be of a similar price, but a plastic bottle bourbon? It simply didn't fit with the amazing high class atmosphere of The Nest. I politely asked for a different bourbon (glad she asked, thanks!) and the drinks were served and they were absolutely amazing! Single large rock in my Old Fashioned (missing a cherry though) but the bourbon was great, same with my wife's. Overall excellent experience, friendly staff, and stunning views. Totally aging myself here but I wish rooftop bars were a thing in my 20s in Seattle. You come here for the view, but honestly the drinks are solid and the space is quite nice. The drinks aren't that expensive all things considered. Also they do have good cocktails. There's a good sized outdoor patio with heated cover now for winter which is great. Valet parking at the hotel is decent at $15 for 3 hours I believe and so covenient. I think this is a great place to go for a night out and to bring out of town guests read more

I planned to meet a friend downtown for a drink. We agreed to meet in the lobby of the Thompson Hotel. Got into the elevator and pushed "R" for Rooftop ~ The Nest. Wow.... Just WOW! The view. We were greeted immediately and taken to fireplace seating facing Elliott Bay. I'm a Seattle native and I was blown away by the view. The late summer evening was a perfect balance of sunset and clouds. After the oooohhhing and awwwwwwing we were approached by friendly staff with a warm welcome and cool glasses of water along with John Nugent, Bar Manager. John asked us what we liked to drink. My preference? Anything with Vodka and lime. Within a short time I received the most elegant cocktail. It's called a "Hummingbird". As pretty as it was, it had just a hint of sweetness which is how I like my spirits. John nailed it. A short time later I was asked if I'd like another Hummingbird or something different. Yes, different please. The next drink was even more beautiful. It's called a Brazilian Ruby featuring Cachaça, a distilled spirit made from sugarcane juice and lots of other yummy ingredients. This concoction was also nicely tart/sweet. Overall, my first experience at The Nest was AWESOME! Great staff, a bar manager who "got me", happy, shiny people, and an incredible view. Got to come here after a day of work to celebrate my birthday with friends. The view is just wonderful. We called ahead and was able to reserve a table, something that is a great feature, and it was ready when we arrived. It is at the top of the Thompson Hotel which is new and all the staff were super helpful. The drink menu was plentiful and light snacks were a great side. There are tables inside and outside, we sat just inside but when we asked, Tyler, opened the side glass and it felt wonderful. Again the staff really seemed to please at this location. Parking was easy and I was able to just send a text and have my car ready by the time I got back downstairs. I would strong recommend the Nest and I look forward to going back. We checked the hours on their website and headed over there only to find out that the place was shut down to walk ins as there was a private event going on there. It would've been nice if they updated their website. A few days later we attempted to visit there again. My hubby tried contacting them but no one answers the damn phone. He sent an email to them as well with no reply. We took a chance and Uber'd over there on a Sunday evening only to be told that since we didn't have a reservation and are not guests at the hotel they could not accommodate us since they were fully booked. Great view, and wonderful adaptation to the regulations in place due to COVID-19. Note that they do charge a 20% service charge on all bills, do there is really no need to tip beyond that, but can be surprising if you don't expect it up-front. Service has improved over all of my previous visits, as has the menu - which has items more widely enjoyed by the patrons. I do give 4 stars due to portion size of some apps, expect about $85 for 2 drinks & 2 items from the food menu. Drinks are tasty, order at the bar and everything is brought to your table.
