Ordered takeout and it was out of this world as always. When I called they were super busy and I let them know I will wait if Chef can accommodate and I provided my order. Let them know I'm right down the street and just need a 5 minute notice and they would call back when it wasn't busy - they called me back in less than 30 minutes and said ready in 10 minutes. I love the fact that if they are too busy and can't accommodate at that time they're honest. It's a small family business the Mom is the host and probably one of my favorites she is like old school south Philly meets Mother Theresa! The chef is a perfectionist and I always try at least one special and have never regretted it. I am utterly amazed each time at the dishes he comes up with. Overall price wise they cannot be beat, huge portions and every bite was heavenly. Where can you get this much fresh, delicious food for under $100 no where except New American Bistro. It's also extremely rare to get take out and it be as good as served in the restaurant. The beet with pistachio encrusted goat cheese salad with raspberry dressing. This salad had it all! Everything was so fresh and crisp. There were so many bursts of flavor. This was a special hopefully it will be added to the menu. Rating: 5/5 Spicy crab chowder - we always order. It's my husband's favorite soup. Rating: 5/5 Blackened Scallops with Raviolis and Lobster Sauce - we always order. Appetizer size comes with 4 blackened scallops and a couple ravioli. Rating: 5/5 Maryland crab cake with Ravioli and pesto sauce. This was my first time trying and typically does not get pesto dishes. This had so much flavor and was refreshing if that makes any sense. Appetizer size comes with a very large crab cake and a couple ravioli. Rating: 5/5 Gnocchi's with Jumbo Lump Crabmeat and Gorgonzola Sauce- this is my absolute favorite dish. The Gorgonzola sauce you could drink. I dip the homemade bread in the sauce after. It's my favorite. I'm a huge Gorgonzola fan I put it on everything. Was there for the first time for dinner tonight and it was a fabulous experience!!! Our waitress was super nice and attentive, and the food was to die for! I had the filet mignon and my friend had a scallops/shrimp dish. They were both cooked to perfection! They had a big case of desserts to choose from and our choices (carrot cake and tiramisu) were delish! Prices are reasonable and its being BYOB kept the cost down too! Can't wait to go back! Hidden gem! I almost resist getting the word out on this place because it is what I consider the best kept secret for upscale dining in Delco. When I say upscale I mean the food is absolutely top-notch, and we have tried something different on the menu the past 3 times we have visited. No need to go to Media, this is right in Ridley Township! Make sure to grab reservations for fridays and weekends because they fill up quick, the dining room is small. The entire service is focused on the food, they know it's good and take their time to ensure every item that leaves their kitchen is perfect. If you don't care about good food, and just want to fill up your belly, then skip it and grab a hoagie at Roma's ("Ohhhhhh they give you so much meat..." no thanks). On this particular outing we tried the steak and shrimp special as well as the crab cakes off the main menu. Their bread is awesome. I really am not even sure what is in it, a mix of sweet and savory, with a spreadable, buttery cheese to go along with it. The steak had a delicious demi-glace and the seasonally prepared veggies and mashed potatoes were a great pairing. Crab cakes were awesome. They offer a spicy remoulade with the crab cakes, but I wasn't in the mood for too much spice, so I opted to go with the lobster blush sauce. The crab is king in this dish, and why shouldn't it be? So many places, even big fish houses and seafood restaurants serve really bad crab cakes. The simplicity of this dish is what makes it great, crab. If you cover it with fillers and overpowering seasonings, and a bunch of gobbly-goop, it will always tastes bad. New American presents you with a crab cake that has just that, crab, along with the right combination of breadcrumb and seasoning. I make my own crab cakes with mayonnaise to keep them moist, and I prefer my own, but if I were to eat them at a restaurant, this place is my go-to. New American is also owner-operated (it seems), and you feel as if you are stepping into their own home and quaint dining room. Amongst the 12 or so tables you will always hear lively conversation and happy guests. They do things a certain way, as the service was consistent each time, so we knew exactly what to expect. Blink and you'll miss it. Tucked away in a little strip mall I found salvation after a long day of travel. I was seated immediately in the little spot that feels like a family home. I started with the fried eggplant appetizer special. It was cut very thick and lightly breaded and not greasy at all. I chose the tuna special for my entree and it was fine, nothing made it stand out to be honest. I finished my meal with a cannoli cake and that was delicious. If you're reading this review go here now! Okay, now that I've got your attention let me tell you about one of the BEST dining experiences I've had in Delco. As a Delco native and current Philly resident I can say for sure that delicious dining is few and far between in the Interboro/Ridley area but this place takes the absolute cake. We came here last night to celebrate birthdays and the food was absolutely phenomenal. I mean some of the most complex, delicious, fresh, perfectly cooked, absolutely beautiful flavors I've had in a while. Ordered by my party: Myself - Oysters (so fresh and delicious) & octopus salad special with artichokes, capers, and black olives (see picture) that was huge and charred to absolute perfection - so tender Others (all had rave reviews and were HUGE portions) - Chicken parm - I was told the sauce was divine and it definitely needed a box for leftovers Special steak and shrimp asian-style pasta dish - I forget the name but the "appetizer" size was ordered and basically came with a whole filet of steak (perfectly cooked btw) and needed a box for leftovers Pork belly special with pumpkin ravioli, apples, veggies, and cranberries (my husband now requests that I learn how to make these raviolis as he described they melted in his mouth) Soups - lobster bisque, clam chowder, & mushroom soup (apparently I need to learn to make this, too haha) Dessert - tiramisu & creme brulee cheesecake. The tiramisu was absolute perfection (I stole a bite) and not overly sweet. Creamy and divine I wish I had more characters to write about how absolutely amazing everything was. There wasn't a single dish served that was anything less than stellar. It's BYOB and the prices may seem high but don't be fooled, the portions are so so so big that you'll absolutely have leftovers and the flavors and ingredients make every penny worth spending. I was so pleasantly surprised, deeming myself a bit of a food snob, that I may actually go visit my family more often just as an excuse to come here. Final note: If you have any food allergies/aversions I would suggest asking for the ingredients. While pleasantly surprised and absolutely delighted for the complex flavors/ingredients there were some that ended up on plates that weren't listed on the menu (cranberries & capers for example). Tonight was the second time I've gone here, and I honestly need to start going more often. I had the shrimp cocktail & stuffed mushroom appetizers which were both phenomenal. I also ordered the filet with crab meat as my entree - I ordered it med/rare and it came out PERFECTLY. The filet literally melted in my mouth, it was so fresh, tender and juicy. It's such a warm relaxing environment. It almost feels as though you're at a family member's house for dinner. Service was great as well. We live in the area, so we visit regularly. This was probably our fifteenth visit. The food is excellent as is the service. The New American Bistro is a family owned; chef owned restaurant. Dad and brother run the kitchen and Mom and daughter run the dining room. They have daily specials which are written on a board near the entrance. They have an excellent menu with many meat and seafood dishes. They are very accommodating in preparing your meal the way you want. Any appetizer can be prepared as an entree. If you like steak, these people really know how to prepare it. It is always cooked to perfection. It's a fairly small dining room so reservations are a must. Its a BYOB. read more

Decided to walk in today and although the place was empty except for two tables , we were told by the server that they do not accept walk-ins especially on Friday and Saturday. Walk ins cannot order to take home either, however website has a link that takes you to order out ( go figure) . Your best bet is to reserve earlier in the week if you want a Friday or Saturday reservation or try Sunday as we were told by the server. This restaurant is always a go to for me. It is a little small BYOB that really makes you feel like your sitting in someone's living room! The servers are always so nice and personable, also the hostess one night who I think is the owner was very accommodating when we came in without a reservation. The blackboard right when you walk in has rotating specials that are always delicious. Entrees come with a small salad and the house dressing is a must. The warm bread they give you is so good, BUT the butter is to die for! We got the crab dip as an app that is THE best crab dip ever. It is more like a meal I could eat it with a fork. This time I got a special of monkfish and scallops which did not disappoint. Also he got the filet and said it was great and cooked perfectly! I highly suggest this place for any occasion! read more

Since Covid I have been starving for some really good food and I found it in my own backyard in Ridley Park. A small little storefront restaurant with absolutely delicious offerings and large portions. Lobster bisque, clam chowder that my husband claims is the best he's had, oysters on a half shell, hot crab dip for 2, pumpkin and lobster raviolis (and ohhh the tiramisu and creme brulee cheesecake) are just a few of the menu items we tried in our first visit on Friday! We couldn't wait to go back again which we did last night. My husband gauges restaurant food quality with the simple chicken parmesan dinner. Everyone makes it but few make it good and even less make it special. This was special and he was delighted to have as much left over as he ate for his lunch today. It's small, cozy and just delightful. It is a BYOB but that's just fine with us, restaurants overcharge for alcohol anyway. Please do yourself a favor and go. read more

I love this place. I felt like I was in my sassy grandmother's house, if my sassy grandmother served up delicious and somewhat exotic cuisine. As soon as I checked out the numerous and varied specials here I knew it was a must try, and from beginning to end nothing disappointed. We went with a group and in true Delco fashion rolled up with a cooler full of choice beverages. Love a good BYOB. I tried the spicy crab bisque on special which was fantastic. Perfect amount of spice and lots of crabmeat. We also tried the bacon wrapped shrimp which were great, we loved the mango Dijon sauce on the side. For my entree I ordered monkfish with crab jambalaya and it was fantastic. The portions are very generous as was the flavor. Everyone at our table loved their dishes and we all agreed we will be repeat customers. Despite being quite full we managed a few bites of dessert. I ordered a chocolate mousse pie with a cookie crust which was as delicious and decadent as it sounds. Everything from beginning to end was fabulous and New American Bistro has four more happy customers! Can't wait to get back. read more

So I'll give this place a 3 for effort. I appreciate local businesses so I'm glad we were able to support by staying for dinner. But that's kind of where it ends. The food was not great. The "crab dip" is clearly the crab dip/cream cheese mixture that you get at Wegman's. With the peppers and other weird ingredients and it just tastes smooth without a hint of Old Bay in sight. They threw a pile of lump crab meat on top with cheese but it was still that low quality in-crablike crab dip that I wasn't expecting. Bleh, whatevs. The rolls were weird. They were like a pinkish color, as if they had baked in peppers and/or tomatoes. And so much flour all over them that I looked like I ate a funnel cake after. The butter was weird too, like a whipped red pepper butter. Not bad, just not good. I had eggplant parm, not bad but not good. My son had fingers and fries. He really enjoyed the fries but he wasn't thrilled about the fingers. My mom had shrimp scampi which she described as "shrimp and noodles in olive oil." There appeared to be no butter and she barely tasted any garlic. Idk, nothing was spectacular. I will say that the service was great. Our server was a very sweet & kind woman, who was very attentive and had great things to say about the restaurant. The owner was warm and welcoming as well, and gave us some history of their business. In all honestly, I would love to return again, but I don't want to eat anymore of their food. We only made it to this restaurant because Gas Light is closed on Sundays. But yeah, visit at your own discretion. read more

ZERO STARS! I will never come to this restaurant again. My family and I all meet for dinner here once a year (there is 25-30 of us) and have been doing so since this restaurant opened. There have been issues in the past, but we were able to look past them due to the convenient location, but after the events of our visit this past weekend we will never be returning. We visit on the same day every year and make the reservation months ahead of time. We also provide the meal order for each person attending over a month in advanced to make it easier on the staff to be prepared. We arrived this year to find out that they "forgot" our reservation and we would need to wait for tables to clear. Once enough tables cleared (about an our after our party arrived) we were able to sit. Once seated it took another hour and a half before we got our food. The service was DREADFULLY slow, we had to ask multiple times for some things such as wine glasses or butter. After all this, we received no apology and were treated rudely by the owner who was there at the time. This place is poorly run and I would not recommend patronizing this restaurant to anyone read more

In reading some local news articles about this place, it turns out the owners have been around the Delco scene for quite some time. They owned a similar business in Morton many years ago, and also owned the Rose Tree Inn for quite some time before opening this place. So it's good to know that they are experienced. The atmosphere is very homey, and quite nice on the inside. Given that it is basically a storefront place, the decor does look good. Only problem is that the view is of the nearby parking lots, and if someone in the Wawa next door pops their high beams on, you get an eyeful right at your table. This isn't exactly a prime location. Perhaps they might want to invest in tinted windows or some blinds. Service was friendly, but slightly slow at times. I'll give that a pass and base the star rating specifically on the food. They do make a nice bowl of gumbo. It was good enough that my wife kept dipping her bread into my bowl. So kudos on the soup course. The salad was pretty basic offerings. The entree I chose, as did my wife, was the Chicken Parmigana. I just can't resist that choice sometimes. It is an all time favorite of mine. My basic review on their version of that dish is that I've had better. I still enjoyed it, but it wasn't up to the level of what you'd get at a place that specializes in Italian food. It could have used a little more sauce, and could have used a bit more crunch in the breading. I will say that the chicken itself was pretty fresh and juicy. Our dining partners had some salmon dishes that did look worthy of praise. The desserts were pretty decadent. My wife enjoyed her basic brownie and ice cream so much that she didn't even feel the need to taste my cinnamon roll cheesecake. Which is good because I made the decision to hoard it all for myself after the first bite. Excellent job there. I do think this place is nice enough, it's a decent choice for BYOB, and is worthy of consideration. But I'll start them with three stars and give them a chance to win more. read more

Good Golly Miss Molly! An absolute winner. Yelp does it again. Looking for a place to chow down on a Sunday late afternoon and the reviews lead us to this place. So glad we tried it. Nothing to write home about from the outside as it is in a small strip mall lower levels to boot. However once you walk in it's like walking into a relatives home. Talk about a place where everybody knows your name. You'll probably be greeted by Patty the owner with a warm welcome lead to your table and immediately a conversation begins. The server will bring you hot rolls that was accompanied with a cream cheese and butter cumin spread that was great. We both had a corn crab bisque that definitely was homemade. The corn Al Dente plenty of crab and a base that simply exploded in your mouth all a while watching TV just like I was home. Next to our entrees--I had a requested Veal Francese-Picata with angel hair pasta and fresh asparagus and baby carrots. My wife had a Grilled swordfish topped with a creamy citrus sauce lightly topped with warm jellyfish, selected from their huge special of the day board WOW! Sorry no room for dessert I really wanted to savor the flavors I just ate a little longer, but I will next time and I do mean there will be a next. Ok so I've only gone once. And as far as food goes, wow. 10 out of 10. Absolutely wonderful and fresh. This place restored my faith in the fact that there is a local place that isn't disappointing. Hallelujah. The deducted star was for 2 things. 1. The atmosphere is a little.....dated. I'm guessing they were looking for homey decor to feel like ur having dinner at grandmas. But it just feels like they went to a bunch of estate sales and picked the most dated stuff they could find. I appreciate what they were going for but they missed the mark. It just feels a bit cluttered inside. 2. It took awhile for our food to come. Waiting is an issue for me. If ur a place that knows the food takes awhile to make, being transparent with guests wouldn't go amiss, in my opinion. I personally would appreciate that kind of heads up. But I'm sure that's not a popular opinion. And some people may not want to hear that. Those 2 things aside, great food. Truly sublime. Highly recommend. read more

It would be easy to miss this place, it gets lost in the shopping center facade. Parking was tough, always bad in this little shopping center. We went on a busy weekend night, it was a full house and somewhat noisy. I couldn't really get a feel for where the decor was going, kind of a mixed bag but oddly homey. There is a huge lighted dessert case in the middle of the dining room. The hostess (owner?) seemed a bit frazzled. After a short wait we were seated. Our waitress was terrific, she opened the wine right away and made great suggestions and also made sure we ordered before a table or 13 so we wouldn't have a long wait. The food was very good. Entrees were expensive in my opinion but portions were good. Our salads with house dressing was very nice. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and the plate presentation was very nice. Tried one chocolate cake dessert which was very good. Overall it was a nice experience and we would definitely try it again. The BYOB is a great money saver. The decor and other: It doesn't have a fancy decor but it is nice enough for the space it is in. On the picky side, none of the wine glasses matched and were all different sizes, had a small, tall glass for an expensive red. Also, there is an old couch, chair and TV inside the entrance which we assumed was for waiting patrons. On our way out one of the staff wearing an apron was stretched out with her feet/boots up on the couch with a full restaurant checking her phone. We thought that was very inappropriate (who let's their staff put their feet up and hang out literally in the middle of a dining room?) and did not lend itself to a nice restaurant. That is a little too casual. If I want to see a kid with their feet up on the couch I could have stayed home! Really no need for a TV- doesn't add anything. How about some nice music in background instead. That aside, the food is very enjoyable and worth a try. A nicely varied menu with interesting choices. Chef is talented. We were held up in traffic on 95 south today and found this place on line. As busy as they were they accommodated us for dinner so we could wait until the traffic cleared. Had dinner here last night with friends. As a vegetarian, sometimes it's hard to find great options, had an absolutely fabulous five star pasta with seasonal vegetables with aglio and olio. I highly recommend it. Patty, one of the owners and Robert the waiter were so accommodating. Great atmosphere. Diverse menu choices. Beautiful salads. Even Andrew the dishwasher at the end of the night came out to introduce himself and see how we liked our meal. Also, the desserts were unbelievably decadent, not too sweet just pure perfection. My family was looking for a place to take my mom out for her 65th birthday. She's a big seafood fan, so I turned to yelp to help me find a local gem that would be a bit more memorable than Joe's Crab Shack or whatnot. When the results turned up the New American Bistro, I couldn't for the life of me think of where it was. I drive on Morton Ave often for work, but never even took note of the Bistro's existence, much less tried it out. But the reviews were all pretty good, so we made a reservation and hoped for the best. When we arrived, half an hour after they opened for dinner, the manager was the only person in the dining room. I didn't know how to take the emptiness, so I just told myself it was early for some folks to eat dinner and pressed on. While the standard menu appears a bit limited, the daily specials are extensive. Everyone had a bit of a challenge narrowing their selection down, but eventually chose and ordered. As we waited, other diners started filtering in. For the most part, they seemed like regulars. That's always a good sign in my book! The manager (who also was our waiter) was very attentive and helpful throughout our visit even as his work load increased. It took a while for our food to come out, but there were nine of us in our party - so I can understand what a challenge it must be to get that many plates on the table at the same time. Luckily, we had nowhere to be - so it wasn't a huge deal for us. When the food did finally come out, we all decided quickly it was worth the wait. Portions were generous, but not excessive. Plating was beautiful, but still approachable. And the taste... oh my, the taste. I had the veal saltimbocca with gnocchi and it was easily the best restaurant dish I've had in recent memory. All members of my family shared similar feelings about their dishes. But the real raves were yet to come. Because then there was dessert. Oh, how there was dessert. I opted for the apple & cranberry pie, which was warmed and served with ice cream, whipped cream and fresh berries. It was heaven. Pure heaven. I chose Veal Française and my dinner companion ordered Filet with lump crab for the entrees. Both came with a salad. We requested Caesar salad and they made it fresh. Entrees were better than we hoped for. Perfect portions for a perfect price. Can't wait to go back to try other things that looked appealing.
