Bloody Marys and pool! They had specials on Sunday mornings and it was always empty. Basically, we were able to have a drink, play pool, and watch the game on a huge TV without many bothering us. Skip it. None of the casinos in La Center are worth spending that much time in or writing about for that matter. It just really sucks that if you want to gamble and live in this area, you are stuck driving a couple of hours in either direction to find decent gaming. Nothing noteworthy about this place, except they had a smoking hot cocktail waitress who was very friendly, hence they are spared from the one star rating. read more

The restaurant food was absolutely terrible. I cannot believe how bad, or that they have the guts to serve this and call it "Chinese food" for $12.75 per person. I swear to god the "chicken" is quite literally frozen chicken nuggets, the "fried shrimp" looks and tastes just like the long john silvers fast food frozen shrimp (which I received just 2 of), the fried rice seemed like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day (this was a 5pm on a Friday night dinner too, not a Tuesday lunch hour), the egg roll was cold in the center so I have to assume that it too was microwaved. I ate 2 of the chicken nuggets and a scoop of rice before giving up. Paid the tab for all 3 of our "Dinners" and left. Atleast the water was good. The service was good. DO NOT EAT HERE. I really like New Phoenix and Last Frontier. They are a great place to play poker, even though it's a 25 minute drive from my place in NoPo. The games are good action, but there have been a lot of tight regulars in, so it's not as juicy as it used to be, now more sharks looking for smaller amounts of prey. The dealers are competant, not overly friendly, the floor staff is fine. I enjoy most of the servers as well. They charge for water which at a casino or poker room seems ridiculous. I had a caesar salad for dinner last time i was there and it was quite tasty. overall, I try to play cards up there every 2 weeks or so...and will keep going back! read more

I used to stop here for take out 2 or 3 times a month and a drink or two while waiting for my order back in the day before I retired and when I used to drink which now also is History? My husband and I headed up to La Center to check out the casinos up there. I would refer to these casinos as "card rooms", since they appeared to only have tables to play cards. We stopped in at the New Phoenix. All of the staff we encountered were wonderful. Almost all of the dealers were very friendly, and all the security guards who checked our IDs were very kind to us. I thought the facility was clean and pleasant. Nothing fancy, but clean and functional. The place is 18+, so anyone who is under the age of 30/looks like they are under 30 needs to wear a wristband that states they are over 21. At 29 years old I think it's a stretch that I look like I'm under 21, but I'll take compliments where I can get them. I was a little shocked that they wouldn't serve me or my husband until I had a wristband on (after I showed the bartender my driver's license) but the bartender kindly explained to us that it was the policy there, and she directed us to the security desk where I could get a wristband stating I was, in fact, over 21. We could not get a seat at a $5 blackjack table (there were very few) so we took a seat at one of the tables that has a variation of black jack, where your odds are as good as they are at regular blackjack (I don't remember the name of it, but it involved 5 decks of cards with no 10s, and you could win bonuses for other card matches, so there was the potential to win big). The dealers explained the game and rules to us, and were very kind while doing so. I don't think we will be returning since it seemed too hard to get a seat at the $5 blackjack tables, which was really what we were looking for. But we had a very enjoyable evening, and if someone in the area was looking for a place to play cards and didn't want to drive all the way to the coast, I'd recommend this spot. It's a smoke free casino, which I was really happy about. There is ample parking. We were there on a busy Saturday night and didn't have trouble finding a spot. Also - we only ordered drinks in the bar, but it looked like everyone in there was having a great time enjoying the karaoke and hanging out. read more

i don't come here often but i do play limit from time to time. The good: Well there is not much in the Portland area to go to unless you want to drive to the coast, so it is convenient. The have a wide verity of table games as well as poker. the waitress and staff are friendly for the most part. The bad: the poker tables are too low, the chairs are super uncomfortable, for people who like to play for hours its not comfortable at all, the chips are worn out, i know this place makes a lot of $ they should put some $ back into the their equipment. If I could pick ZERO stars, I would. The customer service here is so atrocious that one cannot even refer to it as such. If you are in the mood to be ignored by aging, slightly overweight, incredibly rude and unfriendly female servers, by all means, get here as soon as possible. If you are really lucky, after you have been ignored for ten minutes or so, a member of the waitstaff may possibly enter the bar only to look the other way and socialize with the group of underage patrons seated at the next table. There are other casinos in La Center. Unless you are really, really into being treated like garbage, I would suggest you avoid this place and go somewhere else. My husband and I were regular patrons, and have had experiences like tonight on two or three other occasions. We will not be going back. It is a shame that the lack of competition in La Center allows management here to feel that it is acceptable to treat patrons the way we were just treated. Go across the street to Chips/The Palace, maybe you will have better luck. read more

Rude employees and bad service pretty much sums it up. No consistency with regard to the rules either. I've seen a lot of really bad calls by the floor people way to many times. Save yourself the disappointment and skip this place. Two thumbs way way down. read more

I used to be regular at Chips Casino. (Almost a decade). But what has happened is that rude and bad behavior by their regulars is not curtailed. When I started playing red chip games regularly and was winning the behavior of a few (who they will not stop from being rude) drove me away to the Portland poker clubs. It was like being in a private game where a few characters wanted to control the game and the people in it so they try to drive away any newcomers who can play well. read more

Although this place is in the middle of nowhere, we went here to play some blackjack. It was a Sunday night and this place was really crowded. They only had one blackjack table, but we were lucky enough to get to play. The dealers we had were really nice, and that is why I'm giving the 3 stars. Only because of the dealers. My issue was that when we arrived and sat at the blackjack table we asked for service. the dealer called out for service on three separate occasions. it took the waitress about 30 minutes to finally get to our table. My husband ordered a drink and I ordered a water bottle. Another 30 minutes later the waitress finally comes back with their drinks and has forgotten my water bottle. I politely ask for another again and wait. She finally comes back around with everyone's second order of drinks and had my water on her cart. She FORGOT yet again to give me my water and started leaving the table, I had to holler really loudly and ask for my water. I'm sorry that the place is busy. Maybe they should have more cocktail waitresses, but she was so rude to me. Who knows maybe because I wasn't ordering an Actual drink? Anyways that service totally ruined it for us. We will be going to Chips Casino next time. The service there is always so great. read more
