An awesome addition to Downtown Peabody! I ordered takeout---2 steak tacos, chips and guac, and the churros. Steak tacos were delicious--I loved the cilantro sauce and the meat was tender. The guac was just okay---a bit watery which was disappointing but the chips were fresh, warm, and perfectly salted! Churros came with an excellent chocolate sauce---definitely recommend. I was highly impressed by the interior of this place---would definitely come back and grab a table or a seat at the bar. Looking forward to going back soon! read more

Having lived in Texas for several years, the bar for acceptable Mexican food is kinda high (with low expectations). The steak quesadillas are a favorite in the menu. Ordered takeout on taco tuesday! First time tryin them out and they were really good! They have 4 kind of tacos so we ordered 2 of each kind. Downside is the taco shell itself fell apart immediately when I pulled it up because it obviously got soggy on the 3 min trip home. But my suggestion would be to have individual wrap under each taco. I would rate the tacos as #1 Beef #2Chicken #3 Fish (tomato-ey and dry) #4 Pork Definitely will go back next Tuesday for the beef ones and maybe try another item! read more

I don't drink. I have enough ulcers in my stomach to have my own golf course. So, generally, I don't like "Mexican food". Didn't go there on purpose. Was looking for someplace else, and thought this place wasit. All that notwithstanding.... The bartender was AMAZING. Friendly. genuine. Just a real human being. And a good one, too. The atmosphere was FANTASTIC. One other huge party there. Bunch of barely-legal young ladies. being young and having fun. And there was me. The guy that doesn't drink and didn't go there on purpose. And they wre super nice....the bartender AND the huge partying other party. Didn't make me feel awkward. Made me feel welcome and accepted. Let me be but let me feel like I could do mroe than be if I wanted to. It was just a really good experience on every level. read more

I thought the food would be a bit more authentic. I got tacos that were Luke warm and didn't have very good flavor.

Atmosphere: First time coming, sort of came on a whim. Although I have heard some people talk about it. There was of us, we walk in and there are 6 people, not very busy, could be the time of day or just the establishment itself. Decor seems forced, sort of blah if you will. Menu: Not huge. Simple. Anyone who eats Mexican food, pretty standard options that you would be familiar with, or so you think. I'll get to that later. Food: To start menu says "first chips n salsa on us." $3 after, say what? So first batch is cold chips, decent salsa. 2nd batch was hot, so if I get a 2nd batch I get them hot just not the first? Guacamole was nothing special, got that with the 2nd batch of chips. Now for meals, what was ordered was a chi1cken quesadilla, a pork quesadilla and a starter of 3 mini chimis with ground meat as a meal.  So I will start with the quesadilla's because those are a pretty2 common item that people order. The quesadilla was a decent size, however upon it being opened to add sauce, my first thought was "that's it?" Where is the rest of the meat? This was implied to both the pork and chicken. Definitely could have had more meat. They came with rice and beans, rice was not good and the beans tasted as if they had been sitting out for quite sometime. Just dry, cold and little flavor. If you didn't get the quesadilla right, well there is always hope with the rice and beans? Not all. Now to the mini chimis. So keep in my mind I was expecting 3 mini sized chimichangas with queso, now if you have had Mexican food before as I have, you think of a chimichanga with queso, as in a deep fried burrito with white queso sauce drizzled on top and or covered. I have never encountered a chimichanga without WHITE queso. What I got instead was 3 egg rolls that were cut all fancy at an angle with a small bowl in the middle which seemed to be nothing other than tostitos salsa con queso. So when it was set in front of me, I was quite taken aback as I had no idea what was in front of me, I thought I was brought the wrong thing. So I said I'm going to at least try it...this was the furthest thing from a chimichanga on all levels. So I told the server that this was not what I envisioned when I ordered mini chimis. I said chimichangas always have had a white queso. She said we don't have the white cheese stuff. So I told her I no longer wanted the food as it was not what the menu read nor what a chimichanga is/should be. In closing. If you want, warm endless chips and salsa, if you want meat filled quesadilla's or a chimichanga whether it be mini or full sized with white queso sauce, this is definitely not the the place for you. The name certainly should not be the NexMex thing, it is far from that, perhaps it should be called the LessMex thing. read more

The Good: The Gentleman at the front counter was fantastic! Supper friendly, very easy going, and was very helpful with everything. (Getting burrito set up, warming his bottle, lots of questions from us. etc.). So that was a great start. The food was excellent! Shrimp tacos, pork quessidilla, churros with nutella and a California burrito. Shrimp tacos were delicious and the avocado sauce really added a great element to it. Pork quesadilla was solid but had no WOW factor. ( more on that in a minute). California burrito on special was amazing. The Cali burrito was a deilicios composition of steak, lettuce, pico de gaio, guacamole, rice, cheese, and french fries (all in the burrito!). Burrito was supper dense but completely worth it! Would be nice to see it permanately on the menu moving forward. Day loved that they recycle here, especially with her trying to do her low waste lifestyle. Resturarant is super clean. And they have a TV menu on the wall that really highlights what they have to offer. The Bad: First and most important, no bathroom. For a restaurant we found this disappointing. We totally get that with it being less than 20 seats this is probably more of a take out spot than eat in but still disapointing. Most of you who follow our blog and instagram probably notice that we carry burrito with us to all of our resturant reviews. During this partiular trip, burrito had an accident right before we orderd our food. We had to treck up to the main branch library, an almost 10-minute walk with baby in tow just to use the restroom. There is city hall as an option, it was just closed when we were there. Secondly, the quesadilla was not as hot and melty as we would have hoped. The quesadilla was good, the ingredients delicious and fresh, just the cheese was kind of cold and definitely not melted. The Ugly: There is a limited selection of drinks avabile, a couple flavors of Jarritos and a few coke products. Half the fun of mexican food is the Mexican drinks. We would have loved to see more of those. If you were looking to pair your tacos up with a nice Corona you have the wrong spot. Nex Mex Thing does not serve alcohol. Naturally, with most Mexican foods you need to be prepared to get your hands messy, digging in is a must. The food itself is not messy, the presentation here is fantastic, food just gets everywhere when you are digging in. Lastly, the only real parking (street parking is very limited) is up by St. Johns church, so it is a small walk, just FYI. Final Word: This is a really good addition to downtown Peabody. Great food and service certainly outweigh the bad and ugly. Also, side note, they are opening a full-service restaurant right down the road, and we cannot wait! 4 stars read more

Great place, Great food, and Great staff !! My son is a picky eater and I would always order a certain Burrito, one night I happen to go in and one of the staff said to me instead of paying so much more just order a regular Burrito with the Chicken and Fries in it !! Finally tried this place after wanting to for a long time. I was excited and surprised to see a California burrito on the menu. The steak was tender and the burrito as a whole was great. Rice was good and the churros with nutella were the best. Mexican street corn was a little pricey but it's not something I eat often or would make myself so I don't mind paying for it. NexMex has to be one of the best taquerias on the north shore. The service is friendly, helpful and fast. The food is simple but delicious, always fresh, and great flavors. Have ordered take out from here before. Usually pretty decent. Last visit we ordered about $50 worth of food for a dinner for 4 people. Ordered it online. Got an email confirmation, even told us the time it would be ready by. I show up and no one is there. The hours online say they're open. The hours on the glass say they should be open. There was no sign saying they would be closed that day. Just a dark interior behind a locked door. To be clear this was at 5:30pm on Tuesday. I called their number and got nothing. Crickets. No idea what happened. Did this close? If so, couldn't they have the decency to close down their online order system. They had no issue processing our credit card. Nice new location in Peabody near the Courthouse. I had jury duty so I wanted something quick and tasty. Had the chicken tacos with traditional toppings and they were fresh and delicious. What a surprise! This place was so good, I got the Taco Salad with Steak and added guacamole and it was fantastic. The steak had great flavor to it and was tender, everything tasted really fresh. I love this unpretentious taqueria. The menu is limited, which is part of its appeal. They do a few things but they do them very well. My favorites are the shrimp tacos. I adored the atmosphere here. We entered to be greeted by a lovely man who guided us to our booth. I was delighted by the desserts but first the menu and what I ordered. First we got Chicken quesadillas to share which were wonderful and moved onto the meal after inhaling those and the nachos. My poor memory here defeats me for I cannot remember the name. It was some sort of burrito. It was filled with pork and some veggies with rice and the sauce that came with it. It was okay but that night I wasn't really feeling all too well and left most of it unfinished and tried some of the other things my family got while I was there. Rather than deal with the crazy Father's Day wait times, I decided to take my pops here for a casual lunch. It was perfect. Came in late afternoon and we were the only folks eating but some other people came by for take out. The staff was super friendly. It was toasty today so they I wanted a bit of everything so we went with 2 Pescado (Swordfish) Tacos, a Mexican Street Corn, a Pollo (Chicken) Quesadilla, an Al Pastor (Pork) Torta (Sandwich), and the Churros. Let's break it down in the order it came out... The quesadilla was GREAT. Probably my favorite out of all. The portion was huge (12 inch) and it was stuffed with goodies...chicken, beans, lettuce, cheese, everything! It was packed with flavor. The tortilla was perfectly grilled to a golden crust but still with chew. The cheese could have melted a bit more but I'm nit picking at this point. The torta was also very good. The bread was toasted and coated with sauce. The pork was tender and juicy. The chunks of avocado in there helped each bite slide down my throat. The Tacos were just alright. It was my mistake to not put some lime on it as it tasted a bit fishy. It fell apart as I picked it up because it was 1 layer of tortilla but I ate it with a fork. Flavor was OK. The corn was tasty. Would have liked a bit more cheese on top but that's just the greedy side of me talking. It packed a little punch with the spice but not overpowering other flavors. Some places over-grill their corn...it gives it a bit of extra flavor but this...every kernel was cooked but not dried. The churros...there's no such thing as bad churros. The outside was crunchy and sugary. The inside was still soft. The chocolate tasted like Nutella or maybe a mix of it with chocolate. Look, unless you're allergic to hazelnuts, Nutella is heaven sent. The churros and this chocolate is a winning combo. I'd definitely come back and try other items. The place has something like 8 small tables that seats 2-3 and a small counter at the window that seats 3. It's got a bunch of hot sauces. Oh, and prices were very reasonable. Again, friendly people work here. Hope they're around forever. read more

This is a great spot to eat good Mexican food right in Peabody Square. The staff is amazingly friendly, and the guys in the kitchen churn out great tacos, flautas, quesadillas, and burritos. Ordered Barria tacos from this place. They did not come with the comsume for some reason. Apparently it's an extra charge for cheese and consume on something already pricey. Other restaurants I've ordered Barria tacos from come with it. However they gave me rice and beans from a can instead. Probably the worst "mexican restaurant I've eaten at. I also ordered 2 steak tacos that doesn't come with any hot sauce, so I ate a dry steak taco. First and last time I eat here. Not sure how this place even has this high of a rating in the first place. Stay away food is terrible. read more

The service was great but the food was just ok. It was missing all of those bold flavors. You can use the sauces but with a well seasoned taco, you shouldn't have to have sauce. I will definitely pass on another visit. read more
