This is my go-to record store. They have a very large selection of records, CD's, and even cassette tapes at reasonable prices. However, the one thing that really annoys me is that they put the price sticker directly onto the record/CD sleeve as opposed to a plastic outer sleeve. I understand that this is to make sure people aren't simply switching the plastic outer sleeves to show incorrect prices (stealing), but it is rather annoying to have the sticker rip off some of the sleeve or leave that gummy sticker residue behind. That is the only reason I have taken away a star. Besides that, I love this place and am a proud patron! read more

I am a huge music fan, all styles of music. I love to find new things, unexpected things. In my home town of Santa Rosa I have always had a place that has provided me with not only music, but a place to talk about it, live it and learn abou it. This place is called The Last Record Store. I have been shopping here since I moved to Santa Rosa in 1984 and it has always been owned and operated by a couple of great guys who always have a fabulous staff that knows their stuff, loves to talk about it and are always polite and professional. They were one of the first places to start dealing in used CDs and they are one of the only places that still deals in Vinyl. I am a classical music fan and I also collect jazz and soundtracks and no store has a better selection of these styles of music. They have a large selection of new and used cds in these styles. A few years ago they had to move locations and their "new" location is even better than the old one. It is large well lit, clean and well organized. There is always something interesting playing on their sound system that the staff is ready to tell you about. They also sell tickets to lots of local shows and even have a band play at the store now and again. It just don't get much better than this place. read more

I don't frequent this place as much as I used to, but for some reason, whenever I'm here, it just feels like home. Walk through these doors, and there are always familiar faces and musty smells and records galore. Sure it's expensive, but you're paying for an experience on top of the music. I love this place! Great selection of vinyl and cd's, knowledgeable and friendly staff, even live shows. I can never walk out empty handed- even if I just happened to stop by and browse. You just never know what you'll find: Chinese garage bands, The Who released for south America, that "unicorn" record you always hoped you find. All that, and I have never had a problem with the quality of any used vinyl or cd's. This place has always delivered. read more

Great store for records and CDs with all genres present and accounted for. The organization is tight and it is easy to find something if you know what you are looking for. For the vinyl-lovers, they have a "new arrivals" section that is kept fresh and is my first stop when visiting the store. The staff/owner seem to appreciate all kinds of music, as demonstrated by the variety of music they play in the store. They are also eager to help and can order anything very quickly if they don't have it. The pricing is very fair and for used vinyl, the price fairly reflects the condition of the record. This place is a gem. I'm used to the bigger stores like Rasputin's or Amoeba, but this place had a great array of vinyl records (in really good condition) for decent prices. The used CDs were priced comparatively to other stores as well. I found a record that I had been searching for, and it was priced much less than what it was going for on Amazon. The staff was also helpful and kind, which is sometimes hard to come by at these smaller record stores. I'll definitely be back! read more

The customers who shop at the last record store should know that if you bring something back for a refund, the owner doesn't give you back the tax. Says he has to get it from Sacramento. That's very illegal. The dollars are no problem. The tax department should know what he is doing. Very poor customer service and wants to argue with the customers. This is by far the best record store I have been to in a very long time-and it is in my home town! Whenever we travel I like to go to local record shops and I am NEVER impressed as The Last Record Store makes me. They have an incredible Rock, Reggae collection of music. Especially Rock. It seems to me that the people who work there are on a similar music vibe as myself so maybe that is why I always enjoy going in there. We passed this store on a road trip and I immediately pulled over, screeching our poor zip car's tires as we turned into the parking lot next door. I am so glad we stopped because this store is great! It is the quintessential independent record store...friendly and knowledgeable staff, great selection, a bunch of local bands' albums, and a lot of used records, tapes, and cds. We could have spent all afternoon in here, but Calistoga was calling. I ended up walking away with a couple of used cds that I've been wanting for awhile and a Neil Diamond Hot August Nights LP for $1! The prices are fair in my opinion considering that they are such a friendly and vital element in the local music scene. This place was awesome. We were traveling through Santa Rose and stopped in. I found some really cool punk and noise records that I have never seen anywhere else. I also saw a lot of jazz and more standard rock stuff that was cool. Very good selection. The guy at the counter was cool too. Will stop in next time I am around. read more

Until last week I had never spent any time in this store. The selection of CD's, DVD's, Vinyl LP records (both new and used) is mind boggling! very chill, spacious, independent record store! they have an excellent selection of new and used records, well-priced. they've also got CDs and cassettes. they've got a wide variety of genres and eras represented. the store feels nice and spacious (and it's also air conditioned!) I spent a few hours there today on my first visit, and everyone was friendly and gave me the space & time to browse at my own pace. if you like record shops and/or buying physical copies of your favorite music, you will love The Next Record Store! Now how did these Jackalope's know they were going to be the Last Record Store in santa rosa? They do have a great selection of used records & cd's . But when it comes to boxsets, especially new ones, they don't always have what you want, & they have to order them. They also don't discount new items either, so I'm sorry to say it's cheaper to buy them elsewhere instead. The guys that work there are very nice & knowledgeable though. I'm in the process of trying to replace all of my cassettes on used cd's & all of my vhs videotapes on used dvd's, but I have quite a collection, so they don't have it all at once. Time to start making a wanted list & selling what I don't want! read more

Reading other's reviews sometimes reminds me how asinine the reasons are for complaints. This place is awesome! A fixture for many years, the staff are friendly, and willing to help. If they don't have it, they'll do their best to get it. If you're not looking for something specific, there is plenty to browse through - for hours if you wanted to. If you are expecting a Rasputin, or Amoeba, sorry, you will be disappointed. The store is only allowed what its four walls let it. But there is PLENTY, and I mean PLENTY of great stuff packed in those four walls. In an increasingly dystopian city, this place brings sanity to myself - even for a little while. read more

The store takes its name from Little Feet's "The Last Record Album", so minus one star for that. Just kidding. I can't find any fault in this place. A lot of rather difficult records to find were priced at $4-$10, whereas a high volume store like Amoeba would probably have them at $10-$15, which itself wouldn't be too unreasonable. $4.99 for a glossy orignal "Gilded Palace of Sin"? Hell yes! The two guys on staff didn't have the regular surly or aggro record store attitude problems, but instead were friendly and chatty, stocking records and answering questions (in a record store?! Shocking!). Hell, even if you don't buy anything, it's worth stopping in just to check out the stuff on the walls. It's chock full of rock memorabilia that I imagine isn't for sale. A sleeve of The Replacements' "Let It Be" autographed by all the members was especially remarkable, as was the Tom Waits "Big Time" clock, apparently a promo piece(?!). I wish I lived closer, because I'd surely be here everyday, heading to the amply stocked "New Arrivals" bin, hoping to pull out a cheap gem, and probably coming away with a few. Whenever I'm in Santa Rosa, which isn't very often, I always make a stop at the Last Record Store. It's really one of my favorite record shops in the Bay Area (and beyond), primarily because they are so organized. The store has a super casual vibe, and the staff is always pretty friendly. I especially like their large dollar section - I am a huge believer that the best finds are always in the dollar bins. Their vinyl (and CDs) are very well organized by genre, and it's easy to find what you're looking for. A lot of the new vinyl is a bit pricey, but they do have a large selection. I could easily spend hours rummaging through everything. The last time I went I bought about 8 records for $19! read more

Staff is *GREAT* - their knowledge seemingly spans all the genres the store carries (alt/indie/punk/pop/jazz/classical/oldies/plus more) and every one of them is incredibly friendly. This is easily one of my favorite record stores. To start simply, they have a great collection of cds, vinyls, and even some cassette tapes. I came here first because it is one of the few surviving record stores in the area. I started my collection here, searching madly through the 1 dollar section, finding many records that I consider classic to my collection. If you don't like the quality of the dollar records, or you don't feel like searching through millions of random records, they also have new records and used records that are decently priced. The "new arrivals" section is added to almost every day, with record prices ranging from 3 dollars to 20 dollars or so. The owner tends to be picky with the records he buys, so the condition of the used records is generally pretty good. I think it has been a long time since I have walked in here and not walked out with something I enjoy. The new records are not any cheaper than other music stores, but the range is better than most small record stores. The electronic section, metal section, and reggae sections are stocked pretty well, but you can tell that most of the customers buy the used records because the new ones will usually still be there next time if you decide to pass. The store itself is well organized, and has a lot to look at. The walls are covered with posters, as well as records that are for sale (Keep your eyes peeled, the good ones can sometimes be on the walls!). The music they play in the store is always changing, but is generally in the classic rock range. Parking is easy because they share a lot behind the store with a restaurant and a grocery store. The only problem I have encountered is service. Don't expect to be considered a regular after your first visit. Or your second. Or third. The staff can be silent and distant unless you know your stuff about the records you are buying. I have spent countless dollars here, and I still have never been asked my name nor heard the names of the cashiers. If you are building a collection, looking to sell, or just enjoy being in a musical environment, check out the last record store. Expect to spend money, because chances are you will find something you like. read more

We've been going here for many years, since they were downtown on 4th St. This place has a great selection of music, used and new and, most importantly, lots of records. Many records are particularly inexpensive and they always have some for just a couple dollars. They are really knowledgeable and know a lot about music, so if in doubt, one can always ask and they have never steered us wrong in suggesting things we might not have known about. read more

They have a great selection of both CDs and vinyl, and I just got that "welcome home" vibe I've always wanted in a local music store but never could quite find. Kainoa is right -- it really is the only place to buy music in Santa Rosa. The staff have a knowledge of music that is bordering on the absurd. This is a hidden treasure trove! I've been living in the area for 4 years and only stumbled upon TLRS this past year. Great assortment of new and used cds, along with vinyl and more. An added bonus: tickets to local shows can be purchased here. Although it's a little on the pricier end, I'm amazed at how incredibly knowledgeable the staff is. I went in recently in search of the latest New Young Pony Club album, and although they had not received it in yet, the guy helping me knew exactly what I was talking about, and even gave me a brief review of their first album! I love this place, I would highly recommend it to any music nerd like myself. read more
