Arriving early evening we didn't have reservations. Having only opened for two days they are working out some kinks. We are seated in the first room of the original building, four of us this evening. My wife orders the veggie burger advertised as the 'impossible burger' and is disappointed pointed when it arrives as a standard style veggie. My wife informs them of this confusion. The burger is presented with the pickle on top, which brings a smile when it arrives. I order the salmon meal with baked potato. My blackened salmon is cooked nicely with a crusty bite to it and arrives with a few springs of asparagus. The baked potato is cooked perfectly with sour cream and butter served on the side. The side salad is fresh with blue-cheese dressing on the side. Though the chalked specials were from the prior night, and the veggie burger wasn't as advertised, overall we're satisfied with the meal, and especially knowing this is their second night open. I can recommend to give them a try and see how they progress. It's a good start overall with a few things to work out. read more

If you're a lover of remote out of the way hidden gem restaurants like me, you're going to love Nic-L-Inn. Though the address says Frewsburg, trust me, it's nowhere near Frewsburg. It's way out on Bone Run Road in a lovely setting which is actually located closer to the Seneca Nation's Indian Reservation than it is to Frewsburg; so how much more remote can you get than that? Which, by the way is one of the reasons you won't see any Yelp Check-ins here since it is located way out of cell phone range. The restaurant itself is not only clean but of absolutely outstanding décor finely decorated with all forms of trophy deer, fish squirrel and other area wildlife. The deep wood paneling, stone work and particularly its all cherry wood bar give an ambiance of local flavor and taste unequaled by any other area restaurant. The owners are always present and their staff friendly polite and warm. As for food, they're really very good and always willing to make any custom adjustments to suit the desires of their customers. They not only have an extensive menu but if you look at the board, there are generally four or five daily specials displayed. My favorites are their clams casino, their steaks and their prime rib. Nic-L-Inn also provides a perfect outdoor bar as well as dining area which is open in the summer. I always enjoy being there, eating at the bar or at the inside lounge area looking the fountain, watching the hummingbirds feeding at their feeders, some ducks or whatever other wildlife might happen by. For setting and décor, the place is a five star plus and for food far better than what is otherwise available in the area. Overall, I'd say it is a must visit place. read more

First time there since they reopened. Got seated fairly promptly, server Lisa came over quickly took our drink order and our food order. Drinks came over quickly and were very good. Food came and that's where the disappointment started. I ordered the queen cut prime rib which was supposed to be 14-16 oz. There was at least 4-5 oz of fat that had to be trimmed from my prime rib. It was cooked to my specs, but it wasn't hot it was luke warm at best. Also it was the first time I have ever had prime rib that didn't have a little bark on it from roasting. My side was the rice and it was more like mashed potatoes. It was very bland tasting and the rice was very over cooked, it clumped together like potatoes. My wife told me her chicken was good, but right on the menu it stated that they are "Know for their Prime Rib". I doubt that very much. I will give them another chance in the future, just because our server Lisa was outstanding. It's a coin flip, you may like it you may not but I will give them one more try in the future. read more

Food is really good here and a fair price for good quality too. We made a reservation on a Sunday but when we walked in, the restaurant was empty. That's because everyone was outside! The weather was great and they had live music. Their outdoor bathrooms looked nice (at least the building for them). The decor of the restaurant is nice, love the large Buffalo nickel on the door and the home-like kitchen tables and chairs. Ordered the seafood pasta for dinner - delicious! Came with bread and a salad to start, I chose the house dressing which was very good. The pasta itself came with HUGE pieces of seafood and lots of it- two giant scallops, a few pieces of shrimp, and imitation crab. It was topped with plenty of alfredo pasta sauce and I took half of it home. It tasted great the next day but smelled strong of seafood, so you choose. We had not been for sometime, pleasantly pleased with the service and the meals. Josh was a good waiter and knew the menu and answered questions that were asked. He also subtly suggested alternatives with each dish questioned. I had the Lasagne, excellent homemade sauce, my wife the Veal parm, my mom the chicken alfredo, my brother the spaghetti and meatballs, all took home some, fresh rolls and the salad was big and great Italian dressing! I've been eating here on just about every trip up to visit my relatives in the local area, so that makes about 25 years where I can actually be a sort-of mature food critic. The Nic-L-Inn is easily the best sit-down restaurant in the area, with an extensive menu of great food. The prime rib is king here -- but come hungry. Even the queen cut is 14-16 ounces, but always seems to come out a little on the big side. It's always just perfectly cooked, too -- ask for medium rare, get medium rare. And for those used to city prices on things, 19 bucks for a gi-normous prime rib with all the fixins is a steal. The ambiance is wonderful, too -- if you can get a window seat, there are swarms of hummingbirds around the restaurant. There are plenty of tables, but it doesn't feel crowded. There is outdoor seating, too, which has a great tiki-bar feel to it. Service is always great, especially when your cousin's kids work there. read more

Absolute favorite restaurant ever. Ive been going here ever since I can remember. Whenever I come home from DC I always make sure to come here. Food is amazing (especially the prime rib and scallops). I love how far out in the country it is. No cell phone service, so no annoying customers on their phones. I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I've bad "bad" service, but it wasn't even that bad. Make sure to have a reservation. There have been plenty of times my family and I have gone out there thinking there wouldn't be anyone and we couldn't get in. Inside the main dining room, there is a nice fireplace, which is very cozy in the winter. There's a snowmobile trail behind the restaurant, so sometimes in the winter you'll see snowmobiles. The outdoor bar in the summer is also great. It's a very chill vibe. Cute bar, a little fountain with fish (I think?), lots of bird feeders (hummingbird and regular bird feeders), I'm not sure what more you could want from a county restaurant? read more

It's out in no mans land but if you're looking for good American good Italian food this is the place to go to plenty of parking try the prime red it's great to eat in the tavern area away from a lot of people and within eyesight of the bar the staff is friendly and fast. The primary up is really good small or large and the veal Parmesan with a side of spaghetti is very good you also get a large salad with believe me you will not leave hungry but driving at night time with Care this is deer country and they're not too friendly when you hit one read more

I love this hidden gem of a destination restaurant! Tucked into the woods and along a rolling rode perfect fpr cyclists and bikers the Andriaccio family has created a wonderful, homey restaurant. Great food, prime rib, steaks, wonderful specials each night and great service. The bar is a must see! Filled with hunters trophy stuffed animals and quirky decor it is a man's bar. I have eaten here dozens of times and often take out of town visitors as the drive from my home in Bemus Point is lovely. The last time I ate there it was a Sunday afternoon and there was a couple from Ohio who said they always stop in on the way to the casino. In the summer the hummingbird feeders placed by the windows where you have a wonderful view have hummingbirds coming non stop and I have seen a rose-breasted grosbeak as well. read more

My family of four made the 45 mile trip to dine at the Nic-L-Inn. The restaurant came highly recommended to us by a number of my wife's coworkers who love to gamble at Seneca Allegheny Casino just a short distance away. The Prime Rib was supposed to be one of the Nic-L-Inn's finer menu selections. The service was excellent, until the end of the meal. Our server seemed to disappear and we had to track her down to get our check. The Prime Rib was okay. It was not worth the price. It was cooked right, but the underside of the cut of rib they gave me was like the end of a roast or something. It was all seared together and uneatable. It was like leather. The Chicken Picata was good, but unusual. It was made differently than traditional Chicken Picata. I'm not sure what the differences are because I'm unfamiliar with the dish, but my wife said she'd never order it again. The atmosphere was nice. We had reservations. They suggested reservations, yet the restaurant was practically empty. Its a long drive and not worth it. Even if your at the Casino, I'd stick with the Casino food. We have gone to the this restaurant for 30 years. Unfortunately, we won't be back. New ownership. We used to love going to the outside bar, but on a recent visit there we dropped $77 on two bowls of soup, a burger, a philly steak, and 4 beers! Not joking! $67 plus tip because the bartender is great! The menu choices suck and the prices are wayyy too high. And to be quite honest, the food wasn't all that great! If you are going to have a restaurant out in the middle of nowhere, you better be top notch or you are not going to make a go of it. The only reason the Nic L Inn was what it used to be is because Nick and Linda worked their butts off, they had great food, good choices, at reasonable prices! It's definitely one of the more expensive restaurants in the area, but the food is always amazing! I have never had a bad meal there. And the drive around the reservoir to get there adds to the experience. The fireplace and decor make it feel very cozy and welcoming. We even got the kids to try the escargot! Fair warning for parents though- the kids macaroni and cheese is pretty expensive for what was obviously Kraft Mac-n-Cheese out of a box. read more

Five years ago I would've given the Nik-L Inn 4 stars. I would alternate between Chicken Parmesan and Filet Mignon. The filet was always thick, lean and cooked to perfection (medium rare for me). But something happened with the quality of their food. Our last meal was my birthday last August. My filet was thin and fatty, a poor cut of meat. My husband ordered a stuffed fish, the stuffing was super salty and mushy, and the fish was dry and tasteless. This used to be my husband's favorite place to eat, but since our last experience, I won't ever go back. There are too many other good places that are closer to home. Very disappointing. read more

Had dinner on Memorial Day weekend. Server was great - Janice I think. She makes a great Bloody Mary! Appetizer - Stuffed Mushrooms were good. I'd get them again. Friend got Veal Marsala and she really enjoyed it. The problem came with the Mussels and Linguini, unfortunately two of us ordered them. The mussels were very odd, There was a thin film of mussel stretched over each half shell that shredded when you pulled it out. No mussel - plump or otherwise. About a third of them weren't open. So I decided I'd stick to the linguini. Totally bland with absolutely no garlic whatsoever. The server said they weren't the usual mussels but honestly I'd never order them again. This was my second visit to Nic-L. I had a tender and flavorful filet the first time. But, again there was an issue with the meal. They served me instant mashed potatoes - Idahoan Red Skin. I use them at home in a pinch - but I don't expect them on a $30 plate. I just wish the food lived up to the atmosphere... read more

We went there for the Easter buffet and it was terrible. The roasted potatoes were not cooked thoroughly, pasta was dry and the hand carved beef was so tough, no one at the table cut cut it , let alone eat it. This used to be one of my favorite places to eat. Today we stopped in after Carving at the Casino, shortly before 4pm and waited for the doors to open because the website said open fro 4-9pm. Then we discovered that the dining room didn't open til 5pm! Needless to say we were not happy and did not want to spend an hour at the bar with the long ride home (we live in Ridgway)! We have been coming here for the past 30+ years and always have made a point to bring out of town family here as a Christmas tradition and a special event. This year was so disappointing. The restaurant had been remodeled and lost it's cozy charm. The service was extremely slow and it appeared as it was everyone's first day on the job. When our entrees arrived they were cold and it was challenging to get the server's attention. Having just moved back to the area I was excited to take my husband there for our 20th wedding anniversary which happens to be New Years Eve. I ordered Surf and Turf and was extremely disappointed. The lobster tail had zero flavor, water tastes better. My filet was cooked nicely but was dry with hardly any seasoning. The rice also was tasteless. My husband's meal was a bit better which was a bone in strip steak.. he did however say his broccoli had no flavor. The best part of the meal was our deserts and wine. Will probably not go back after reading other reviews with the same complaints.. very disappointed. Our server was very nice but we were definitely rushed through our meal. read more

Well after 25 years thought it would be a good foodie experience. Had reservations for 7:00 pm for three. When we arrived ( at 7:00 pm on the nose ) we waited for another couple who had a reservation at the exact same time as our party. They were told would be a few minutes as we were told same thing and go to the bar to wait. Well only waited for about 15 minutes and never saw a bar tender! Were then directed to a table in the main dining room. Causally observed several open tables but ok so far. Waitress took order for drinks and water in about 5 minutes. Drinks came fairly fast ( but no water ). Orders for food were taken then the WAIT began. Half hour after order was placed waitress came back and told my son they were out of shrimp and could not make his dish so please order something else. He did. We finally got our salads about an hour after we sat down. Another half hour goes by still no main course. At this point it had been very close to two hours and we decided to leave. The waitress was very nice, it was not her fault. It will be another 25 years before we return to this badly managed restaurant. read more

Nice outdoor bar on a beautiful day ruined by inattentive staff huddled around one of their drunken co-workers at the bar. Food is subpar but the behavior of the staff, with the exception of one server, was inappropriate and unprofessional. The youngster manning the outdoor grill was popping food into his mouth while he cooked a meal. Then was texting using his filthy phone, not washing his hands, then picking up the food. The owner appeared more interested in hanging out with kids young enough to be his grandchildren than running a restaurant. This place is awful and we will never go back. read more

Service was so slow,(3 tables ahead of us) people who arrived after us were waited on first,our order was finally taken and took forever to arrive, drinks were never asked to be refilled! One of our party went to the bar to get a refill, the bartender couldn't get off his phone long enough to even acknowledge him being there!! Clams casino tasted like somebody knocked their cigarette ashes into them. I don't know why. They didn't look burnt or anything. Prime rib was great! Well cooked. Four of us went to the Nic-L-Inn for dinner. My wife ordered chicken picatta. The chicken was greasy and overcooked, there were no capers, and no lemon sauce. Why call it chicken picatta? My mother in law's coconut shrimp were overcooked and dry. My father in law's scallops were overcooked and rubbery and his shrimp were overcooked. My seafood Alfredo was fine. This is not the restaurant when Nick was there.We told the waitress about our bad meals and she just shrugged her shoulders and said "I'm sorry" but made no offer to replace the meals or adjust the price. New owner in the boon docks; it's an hour drive+ from or house; the stuffed cod and chicken parmigiana were over the top salted. The drive was not worth it. Are they done in house? If so, cut back on the salt. Chicken parm - $16.00; stuffed cod $16.00: good prices if they were good. Long way to go for mediocre food. read more
