Found this place while I'm in these parts for the Eclipse, and boy was it a find! While we didn't end up sitting in a ski gondola (because we didn't want to wait too long), we still had a good time. The haddock fish fry (really, it's fish and chips with cole slaw) is really, really good. I got it battered and I swear it's better than what a lot of English pubs or seafood places can do. The fish is meaty, crispy, and cooked just right. The cole slaw is creamy and flavorful. Just, wow. We also got a buffalo chicken stromboli which tasted as advertised. Really gooey and good as well! Wish it would come with some greens (like celery, which is classic), but overall it was spicy but not overpowering due to the cheesy. Everyone enjoyed the food thoroughly, and their wacky eclipse themed drinks. The staff was clearly overrun by tourists but still managed to be really nice. I just wish we had gotten into a gondola on hindsight!

Food was good, took a while to come out, but everything was super hot. We were seated outside in a gondola, which the kids thought was super cool; inside the gondola is a blue tooth speaker and heater to use. Our hostess and server were very friendly. I went in the restaurant to use the ladies room. Inside was pretty packed, but there's definitely comfortable space between tables on the patio, and outdoor heaters as an added bonus.

We come here every time we are up. The food is good, they have plenty of seating and pickup options if you prefer take our. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Things we have tried: the wings (tastey), the mushroom burger (delicious), Doug's chili (a good basic staple), the grilled steak sandi (my fav/ so much meat), and some of the weekly specials including a delicious schnitzel

But there's a good mix of other cocktails and beers too. The owner seems really nice, she was working the kitchen along with a couple other family members, good to see, especially since it was all women- love a female owned business that's doing well and doing it right. Chicken tenders were good, not great but I think they're on the menu to placate the kids coming so fair enough. The rest of the food was GREAT. We started with calamari and it was great, came with a lemon dressing already on it which was good and didn't detract from the crispiness at all. Also had lots of battered pepper rings as well, nice balance. Combo seafood basket was solid. The shrimp were great as was the haddock - all battered on site. Fries were thin and crispy. The winner though was the California Grouper sandwich which was a daily special. It was fantastic. I could have eaten two. Came on a soft roll, with slaw and bacon and avocado and I forget what else because I devoured it so quickly. I'd go back just for that sandwich. This place is definitely worth a stop if you're ever out by the lake.

I lived in Dunkirk for several years, but the changes that they have made to the pier and boardwalk are really unbelievable !!!! Shops & restaurants and this gem!! Let me be very clear in saying that there are maybe three tables inside; this is definitely a grab and go restaurant . However there is a huge patio with many many tables even if they are full, which is doubtful, you could certainly grab a spot on the boardwalk nearby . We happened to have a beautiful night and we have an event to go to at SUNY Fredonia so a friend recommended this place . We waited about 15 minutes to place our order. After ordering we enjoyed our drinks out on the patio while we waited for our food. I opted for an alcoholic beverage while my son had a virgin piña colada. Our number was called maybe 15 minutes later and we were served absolute deliciousness. My son ordered the California, which was a delicious crispy fish sandwich while I opted for an Asian chicken wrap. Our food was absolutely delicious. Served just right. The food temperature was perfect and the portions were ample . The service was wonderful. If I ever come upon a beautiful night again in Dunkirk, I will definitely be visiting this place !!!!

Westfield is a lovely little village and the park is right out the front window of the parkview. I like details, and the parkview did not disappoint on that level. The table was beautifully set and simply, tastefully decorated. The small, significant touches definitely made an impression on me. When my friend joined, he suggested the homemade chicken pot pie. There were only 2 other tables and we had a long wait time on drink refills because our waitress was talking with friends while the kitchen kept dining the pick up bell for her for about 5 minutes straight. No sides come with the pasta dishes not even a slice of bread. Our food came out luke warm on ice cold plates. The flavor of the spaghetti and meatballs were amazing, but they break their noodles in half which is a sin and it was room temperature. The flavor of the Alfredo was very bland. The chicken had zero seasoning and it tasted like it was from a can or frozen and boiled with chunks of cartilage in it. I told the waitress and asked for seasoning or something to save it. Nothing did. I had 2 bites of it and left it all on the dish in a big pile. When the waitress came she looked right at it and I told her I didn't like it at all. She still charged us the upcharge for the uneaten chicken that I complained about twice. I always tip at the very least 20% everywhere, today I tipped $3.

This place is pure paradise a getaway from the work week but still includes learning and fun. So what the Chautauqua institution is it's a place near the Chautauqua lake that has just about everything you could ask for. Classes to learn how to make a mosaic. Sitting in on a lecture at the amphitheater or just taking a dip in the lake. This place has it all. You can rent bikes to go for fun bike rides around the property. There is a huge park in the middle for tossing a ball around our hanging out on the lawn. They have cool shops cafés. And there isn't a moment that goes by where you are sitting inside bored out of your mind. We keep coming here because my aunt has a really cool apartment and she let's us use it when she is away. And it is just the perfect vacation even if you stay for just a week I promise your drive home will be memorable. Chautauqua Institution Chautauqua, NY Then vs. Now Series - Entry #4 Updated in 2025 If you've never heard of Chautauqua Institution, let me be the first to introduce you to one of the most magical hidden gems in New York State. This isn't just a vacation spot--it's an experience, a tradition, and for my family, a meaningful piece of our history. THEN (Early 2000s Me): We'd visit Chautauqua when staying at my aunt's nearby place--not far from our ski trips to Peek'n Peak. It always felt like a bonus adventure: we'd drop in for a few days and get swept up in this lakefront world filled with lectures, music, and art. Back then, I was in full kid mode--learning to sail on the lake, playing tennis until sunset, and once crafting a mosaic hot plate for my mom for Mother's Day (she still has it). There was even a festival celebrating the Mars Rover that blew my young mind. It was brain food and beach fun all in one. NOW (2025 Me): Looking back, I wish I had the words then to express what I feel now. Chautauqua wasn't just fun--it was formative. This place made space for thought, creativity, family, and joy in a way few others do. My dad, a devoted birder, adored it here. The serenity, the nature, the intellectual energy--it was his happy place. Every visit brought him peace, and watching him light up during a seminar or quietly admire a warbler in the trees left a lasting imprint on all of us. The Institution's four pillars--Arts, Education, Religion, and Recreation--are alive and well. Whether it's a symphony concert at the amphitheater, a speaker discussing global ethics, or simply lounging lakeside with a book you picked up from the on-campus bookstore, there's something here that recharges your soul. ELITE TIPS: Check out the theme weeks--there's something for every curious mind. Book sailing and tennis early; they fill up fast (for good reason). Don't skip the birdwatching trails--especially during migration season. Stay near Bestor Plaza for max access to talks, treats, and live music. Would I recommend Chautauqua? Without hesitation. Would I go back in a heartbeat? Absolutely. Will I forever treasure the mosaic hot plate I made at arts & crafts? You bet I will. Chautauqua is a place that grows with you, and every visit deepens the story. If you're lucky enough to go--pause, breathe, and take it all in. You'll understand what I mean.

Our reservations were at 6:00pm and we arrived 5 min early and were seated right away. Much to our surprise we were escorted, all the way to what we would call the patio with rattan high top chairs and marble tables, with no more than 5 tables and window bar seating. The restaurant has linen table cloth tables with nice padded chairs which we did not have the pleasure to dine on. We have to say the waiter/bartender was very attentive during our meal. At the end of our meal I stopped at the hostess station and spoke to a manager about our concerns. She advised me I should have said I wanted the dining room, but I explained I had no idea there was an area other than the dining room for dinner to ask for, as I did this over the phone and not online. Normally a restaurant will ask if you are ok with the patio area but that was never asked. When you secure reservations over 2 months prior to an event you would think you would get the main dining room with the linen table cloths and padded chairs. I am not sure what my early reservation got me when again I got rattan chairs at a high top marble table. The manager advised next time I should specify where I want to sit, but I can safely say there will be no next time. This was supposed to be a nice romantic dinner for us, but clearly sitting in the bar/patio area we could have done anywhere.
