Very disappointed with the service at Guppy's, especially since our family has been coming here for over 20 years. We sat for dinner at 6pm; one or two other tables were outside along with us. Our server, when giving us our drinks, apologized and stated she basically forgot about us... which seemed to be how the whole night ended up! We got an appetizer that was served with our drinks, and it took 30 minutes to arrive. We ordered our food, waiting and watching as at least 6 tables were seated. They all had gotten their food before we did, and they arrived at least 10-30 mins after us. The owner comes over and notices the sour look on our faces and states she will go figure out our food order... After watching more tables get their food we decided to ask for our food to go as this is now an hour and fifteen minutes since we've been sat. The owner then states that because we got an appetizer, our food took longer... but the tables that arrived after us got their appetizer AND meal before we got our meal. One of them was even getting their check while we still hadn't gotten our food. Our server checked on us probably one time, and no apologies were given for the wait. The owner states that "it's dinner rush and Saturday night, everyone came in at the same time," which I understand the first part, but no ma'am, they came at least 10+ minutes after we had already been seated. The owner barely apologized for the whole time we were sitting waiting, being ignored, and even told us our food had been sitting on the counter... for who knows how long! She then "so kindly" removed the appetizer from our check. Two of the orders we took home were incorrect, leaving this whole situation even more frustrating. I came to yelp figuring that I'd update my old review of this place but it looks like I never wrote one. Weird. A few years ago, I'd have given Guppy's a solid five, but it's sort of drifted toward the valley of mediocrity that consumes so many restaurants. First the good: it's a cozy spot inside with cool vintage ski area decor. Outside there's another bar in a covered area and past that are uncovered outside tables and- get this- private ski gondolas! That's always a hit with my young son. The wings had been quite good. They've gone downhill a bit, but I'm still happy to eat them if others in my party want a varied menu. The fries used to be great too. The not so good: the beer selection is seriously lacking for a place like this, the mixed drinks are...well, read my bar reviews. They're not my speed. The aforementioned fries are no longer great, either. After a brief period of horrendous, they're now just okay. I haven't looked at the price of a basket recently (since it's not worth getting one), but with a $22 burger, I'd expect better. And more- my gf and I split a burger today and each got maybe eight. Speaking of splitting, that $22 burger cost us an extra $3 to split. This is where I draw the line. It'll make me seriously consider every other option before going again. I get it if we were taking a table and just splitting one little thing, but at a table of five, with drinks (for me at least) and a dessert (two if they had had what was on the menu...), a splitting charge is over the top. Even worse, generally, when that happens, the restaurant gives each person half of the burger on a plate with a serving of fries. Nope. As above, the fries were meager for one- downright ridiculous for two. And it was handed to me stacked on another plate. I guess the empty plate under the other one was what the $3 was for. Um, we'd have been happy to share one plate. So... as a longtime Bemus Point summer resident, I can't really recommend Guopy's anymore, but if you go and you're not that hungry and/or aren't swimming in money, one of your couple should order an entree and the other should just say nothing. It'll at least save you the $3. read more

Found this place while I'm in these parts for the Eclipse, and boy was it a find! While we didn't end up sitting in a ski gondola (because we didn't want to wait too long), we still had a good time. The haddock fish fry (really, it's fish and chips with cole slaw) is really, really good. I got it battered and I swear it's better than what a lot of English pubs or seafood places can do. The fish is meaty, crispy, and cooked just right. The cole slaw is creamy and flavorful. Just, wow. We also got a buffalo chicken stromboli which tasted as advertised. Really gooey and good as well! Wish it would come with some greens (like celery, which is classic), but overall it was spicy but not overpowering due to the cheesy. Everyone enjoyed the food thoroughly, and their wacky eclipse themed drinks. The staff was clearly overrun by tourists but still managed to be really nice. I just wish we had gotten into a gondola on hindsight! read more

Weinerschnitzel (that melts in your mouth) with spatzels and fresh warm applesauce, German Potato Pancakes and Apple Strudel are their homemade options. We all cleaned our plates. Christy was very friendly and a small world story, grew up in the same area and attended the same church as one of our family members. We enjoyed hearing her and Doug's story. I have been going to guppies every summer for most of my life. They always have amazing food, wonderful and comfortable outdoor seating, and great service. It's even more interesting now that they've added the individual gondola seating opportunities. Favorite things to order are either one of the gigantic stromboli (I like meatball and pepperoni) for their giant fish plate. I have very rarely ever been disappointed, though I would not recommend the shrimp scampi as it was pretty tasteless. They have a great selection of beer and mixed drinks, and they have added some fun new features like fish bowls or light up cups. It's a great place to go, though you should be prepared to have a drink and wait to be seated as they're always very busy. read more

So here's my review for doug & Christy's great restaurant/bar Guppy's in bemus. Love the place & the kitschy decor & the annual lobster bake. This year the best lobster I've had there yet. Nice clams really good chowder. The extras are corn & potatoes & hey they're in the pot too but it's too many carbs ha. What is it $35 a man. Something like that. It's a great fun bar the only prob I guess is it's always packed. I always write about the good looking waitresses and probably shouldn't but they have cute waitresses. Usually I get the white pizza but I add pepperoni. It's awesome. Haven't really tried anything else I'm a pizza hound. The owners are great & work hard in a busy busy place. Everybody knows everybody in bemus! In season there's several options but we always go there. Offseason there's like no options and thank god they're open but we would go anyway. Really unfortunate experience from start to finish here - I am usually one to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt but this was bad on a number of levels. The parking lot, to start, kind of a nightmare, not enough spaces to accommodate people in the restaurant area. The lot is also super haphazard. We were quoted 45 minutes for our party at the hostess stand, and while I understand that those wait times vary - at the end of the day we waited nearly 2 hours. This was due to them giving our table away to another group (because they rang their buzzer instead of ours?) - and seating a table of 10 who arrived after us before our smaller group. One redeeming quality was the drinks - the bartender definitely knew she was doing and all of our parties drinks were excellent! When it came to dinner - service took quite a while and also included some entire dishes mistaken for other options + substitutions forgotten. Overall not the best experience. read more

A visit to Chautauqua Lake wouldn't be complete without a trip to Guppy's. With many choices to consider in Bemus Point, Guppy's Restaurant & Tavern is the one worth waiting for (and you probably will if you visit in season). It's just a cute little place with a small dining room but a lovely outside patio. Great menu of choices with no frills and something for everyone. Burgers, pasta, strombolis and pizza. But my favorites are the mussels appetizer and the fish fry. Nice staff, friendly young kids and owners who have put their care and love into the quality of the food. This is the second time I have visited Guppy's and both times the service has been fast and friendly! I highly recommend the strawberry mojito and the portobello salad was delicious! I have also had the cashew chicken salad and I enjoyed every bite of it as well. Other guests at our table had the nachos, grilled haddock, and chicken alfredo and they were all very satisfied. All of the portions were more than enough and pricing is very reasonable. They were very specific to share options for an individual in our party with celiac disease and offered to rush an order for a young boy in our group with diabetes. Came here for Father's Day, and at first glance it was very busy but they had a beautiful outside bar and large tent for people to sit under and wait for their table. Although it was a holiday, it was definitely a really long wait to be seated, then to order, and lastly to wait for the food. I appreciate the owners of the business trying to be transparent about inflation and rising prices where they have this giant yellow sign on every page of the menu about rising costs. For a bar/tavern kind of vibe restaurant (since the dining area is surrounded on both sides by a bar), the prices were still more than I expected especially given the taste of the food. However, I thought the food would match it but unfortunately I had the really long named menu item "Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato Pesto with Chicken". There was no red nor tomato tasted in this dish or pepper, and I was told that its a homemade sauce which really surprised me. I've actually had this sort of sauce in a different style of cooking before and I definitely don't think it should go into this kind of dish and it was really heavy/oily when the "sauce" was separated from the penne home noodles. The sea crab dip did cost the same or even as more as an entrée but they definitely nailed it with the large-sized, crispy and soft chips. The service and waitresses were phenomenal and even asked about switching out the dish I had for something else. This would've been a better experience if I had chosen a different dish in the beginning. read more

Four friends and I stopped for lunch. We found it dark and messy, with a view of the parking lot when you sit outdoors. Food prices are eye-poppingly high. And we found out that if you share a meal, they will charge you $3.50 for the privilege of dividing the food (it was a plate of linguine & clams in the shell) yourself. We were refused when we asked the waitress to have the kitchen divide the linguine into two separate dishes, and ended up using our hands to do it. And I found just one tiny piece of clam meat among those shells. What a disappointment. We will not be returning. read more
