Thought I would share my foster experience with NOAH as a testament to their focus on animal welfare. I have fostered three times with NOAH: A litter of three 6wk old terrier puppies, a 6wk old daschund singleton, and a young mom with 4 newborns (YIKES!). The first two were easy breezy. I was given good instructions and tons of supplies. The mom with 24-hour old puppies was a bit of a stretch, but they were super helpful again on supplies and support. Unfortunately, the mom became ill. The NOAH team was super quick to respond. They had me immediately bring them all back, took everyone to the vet, and found an experienced medical foster family. I wanted to adopt a second dog from The NOAH Center and thought I had found the perfect match, but it became clear my current dog isn't ready to share his space. The staff was incredibly supportive, patient, and kind throughout the entire process. The dog care coordinator and Operations Director even came out in person to help evaluate the situation and walked me through what they were seeing behaviorally. I didn't end up adopting and know I won't be able to, but I was genuinely grateful for the time they spent making sure the dogs' best interests came first. They helped me understand adding another dog wouldn't be fair or safe for my current pup. Their honesty and education meant a lot. I left feeling informed, supported, and even learned my dog is more reactive than I realized. The NOAH Center truly cares about matching pets with the right homes, not just any home making all the difference for pet parents. read more

The animals are wonderful. But I do wonder about the people. it appears that record keeping is not that important. And they just want to blow you off when you ask questions. We adopted a cat in 2018. We wanted him but they were really pressuring us to take him. They don't even vett (no pun) you at all. They didn't have his original picture which should have been the least. Now that he has issues and I have asked for some help they seem to not have any history or pictures. read more

My recent experience trying to adopt a dog here was so stressful, unpleasant and disappointing! The employees that day were not on the ball. Serious lack of communication between workers. The dog I came for was snatched away while I was going to go in the room with him. Sadly, for me he got adopted by somebody else, but I came in ahead of them! Noah Center: Your employees/volunteers are forgetting we humans have feelings too! Years ago, I adopted a dog from you. It was such a great experience and I told everybody I know about it. This time around your people weren't welcoming or friendly. Not much help either! I know many people who have adopted animals from here, but I will no longer recommend this shelter or donate to it. I used to go here, I even sent my husband to deliver 2 free brand new black cages as a donation for them. Brand new and still in the boxes!! But when it comes time to needing desperate help after I moved into a new home and a cat colony was in the neighborhood and when I tried contacting NOAH to see the cost of fixing 4 females - I get nothing. I was fortunate to be a part of my employer's volunteer event at NOAH. NOAH is a non-profit organization focusing on saving dogs and cats. NOAH is a non-kill shelter. NOAH doesn't accept animals from the public or from pet stores. NOAH only accepts animals from partnering shelters throughout the United States (natural disasters and such). Once a NOAH animal, always a NOAH animal, meaning that if the owner can no longer care for the pet, the pet may return to NOAH. NOAH takes the adoption process seriously and has "match-makers" on site to go over the best fit for owner and animal. Keep in mind, the interest lies with the animal and not the person. Just because a person likes/wants the animal doesn't mean they will get the animal. Animals are only adopted out if the fit is right (temperament, home, family unit etc...) More places should operate within these guidelines in my opinion. NOAH offers discounted spay/neuter 7 days a week. The proceeds from these services unfortunately does not go back into NOAH. The majority of the tasks are completed by volunteers. During our event, we picked up dog poop, re-filled poop bags, laundry, cleaned and disassembled crates. In an attempt to keep costs down as well as raise money NOAH accepts donations. Donations can be placed in the drop box at the front of the building. Donations include but are not limited to: dog/cat food, plastic grocery bags, blankets, plastic gloves, bedding, etc...Donations that cannot be directly used at NOAH will be sold at their garage sale. Proceeds from the garage sale go back into NOAH. NOAH also has an onsite pet store in which the proceeds go back into NOAH. All animal bedding is washed every single day. The walking trails are clean and amply supplied with donated plastic grocery poop bags. The carrier crates are disinfected after each use. NOAH takes pride in their services and they love their animals. I personally am thankful to have been educated on all the work NOAH does. Now that I am aware, my future free time and donations will be given to NOAH. read more

Last week I was able to adopt the sweetest puppy! The NOAH Center was such a great experience from start to finish! They were transparent with where the pup came from and his health and also went over the contract in detail. Wow all I can say is wow. I brought my cat here to be fixed. Julie, the director was very very aggressive and rude when I showed up early. She put me in an uncomfortable position in front of my 4 year old daughter, and I had to set her attitude straight towards me because I'm a human being and you shouldn't talk that way to me or anyone else. And my daughter will not learn that is ok or should ever be tolerated or accepted.. and why would you tattoo my cat without my permission?! I will avoid supporting this place if I can. I don't like how rude I was treated for being early. Then I told her I would wait a little longer for his safety and she brought him out to me anyway. So now I have a high risk with my cat that he might die. I will sue if he dies. I did not sign anything saying to release him early after she told me I shouldn't. Needless to say he was so upset when they gave him to me like they beat him or something he was fine the moment that nurse was away. P.s don't tattoo animals, you can use skin pens. She says it was so they surgeon knew it was a male. So much wrong with her statement . If the surgeon doesn't know the difference, maybe he shouldn't have a job. & Julie should be fired. Somewhat disappointed with NOAH this time around. This is the second pup we've adopted with the first being about 8 years ago. This time we adopted a cute little mix breed puppy a week and a half ago and we love him. The problem is he has had diarrhea the entire time. When we called NOAH to ask if they knew anything, they informed us that our puppy's sister had giardia with the same symptoms and indicated our little guy contracted this at the facility. After spending $425 on the adoption process, NOAH refuses to help us and just told us we'll have to take him to a vet which is going to cost another $200+. Probably the last time we will adopt from here. read more

got my two babies here. the two ladies working that evening were very informative and we could tell the cats were well taken care of. it was understaffed when we went but they still made time for us and communicated the whole time. they were also separating the sick cats from the healthy ones and i appreciated their efforts in letting us know and keeping them safe. i would definitely recommend coming here, whether to adopt or just to look at the kitties :) there was info and documentation on each kitten, and even a small shop for those who didn't come prepared. they made sure to tell us the pros and cons of owning kittens and made sure we were thoroughly prepared before bringing them home. overall a very positive experience. read more

We had just lost one of our most beloved cats and decided to rescue a kitten (or two) to help us move past the grief. It's something we've always done, and in the process we've shared our lives with over a dozen rescued cats in the last 30 years. NOAH staff are extremely efficient at their jobs, and there are lots of wonderful, adoptable animals at their shelter. About the only negative we saw: don't look for a lot of warm and fuzzy (other than from the animals) We figured that anyone lucky enough to work with animals all day would be over the moon about it, but everyone is different, and these folks are mostly all business. That said, we did meet two beautiful kittens, a brother and sister, and it was love at first sight. They're two of the sweetest and most affectionate kittens we've ever adopted, but unbeknownst to us, they both had upper respiratory infections (URI) that became evident once we brought them home. It cost us over $1000, three visits to the vet, and three different antibiotics before the disease began to alleviate. They're still sneezing, but it looks like they're past the worst of the URI. Unfortunately, the infection was also passed to our two adult cats, even though we kept the kittens separate, and washed our hands and all the dishes constantly in antibacterial soap. The folks at NOAH had warned us the kittens may have been exposed to a URI at the shelter, and were treated once already, but apparently they picked up a second, different URI before we adopted them. I'm sure NOAH didn't know this because the kittens were not symptomatic when we left. I notified NOAH of the situation, and they immediately refunded our adoption fee to help us cover some of the extra expense we'd incurred for the kittens once we got them home (and for our two adults when they picked up the virus). They did this without being asked and it was much appreciated. They also promised they would look at their screening and quarantine procedures to be sure this didn't happen to anyone else. For stepping up and being totally professional in the face of this challenge, we give them highest marks. read more

We adopted our dog Bruce from here over a year ago. They had named him canelo, we changed it to Bruce Lee Wayne. The greatest decision in our life was to adopt Bruce. He has changed our life. They provided all this vaccines and a major dental procedure at no cost to us. We fostered him while we was waiting for his dental to be done and then formally adopted him. We visited this location 4 times before we walked away with a dog. Can't wait to adopt our next dog from here! People complain about the cost of adoption. Let me tell you one thing $150 is nothing to what I've spent on Bruce. Bed, food, bowls, toys, treats and other start up items needed was about $250. I've spent over $3000 on vet bills since I've adopted him. He has anxiety so he goes to daycare to be socialized. When I first got him he went to daycare 5 days a week because he couldn't be home alone at all. Dogs are a huge responsibility and they are not cheap. I recommend dog insurance. Bruce is getting surgery for his hip dysphasia in the next two months which is $5000. Again he was worth every penny but be aware that dogs aren't cheap and they are family. I take care of him like my child because they can't speak for themselves you have to advocate for them. read more

Yesterday my Boyfriend and I came to this shelter fully prepared to leave home with a kitten and give it a forever home. Although the snobby and condescending attitude of the employees made this experience absolutely crushing for us. Immediately when we walked in the employee's were irritated we were there and it was very visible that they were whispering about us and rolling their eyes at us. Once we explained our situation with them (that we still live with our parents) and that we are also looking for a cat who gets along with our cat we have at home. They continued to "inform" us about how our environment and situation isn't ideal for a cat. They kept questioning if we had the resources and capability to take care of a cat at "our age" and in our "situation". They continuously asked us how old we are and if we were of age while my boyfriend is 21 and i'm 19. This was a very degrading experience since the employees created stereotypes for both my boyfriend and I as soon as we walked in. My boyfriend and I have both grew up with family cats and have taken proper care of a cat before. We know all that comes with being a cat owner. But the employees made terrible assumptions by how we were younger and decided to question our capability simply based off our looks. The environment at this shelter is absolutely disgusting and so saddening for the animals here. The employees here would rather talk a customer out of bringing a animal home, and the animals at this shelter don't deserve that. The purpose of shelters are to save animals and give them a home, this shelter does the opposite of that and would rather push customers away. Not to mention they don't take proper care of the sick kittens nor give them the care and medicine they need. They keep all the sick kittens together in one room so once a kitten gets better there's no hope for it to recover because it will just get sick again. This is not okay for these poor sick kittens. The kitten we ended up picking out was in the "sick room" and when we mentioned he still looked sick they were completely unaware and thought he was fully recovered already. But because he was stuck in the room with all the other sick kittens he obviously ended up getting sick again. My boyfriend and I were so excited to go support a local shelter but after the experience we had, we will never be supporting this company again. No one should ever support a business like this. I have nothing but disappointment and anger towards this organization. Do better. read more

Please DO NOT take your animals here for ANY service whatsoever. My dog has FLEAS from coming to this so called Vet Clinic. Lola Bear got spayed last Monday, and never had a problem with fleas until we left. I didn't really think anything of it but after surgery, Lola started itching and I thought it was post anesthesia effects and I was concerned because she might be scratching her incision. But as I looked and kept applying Neosporin on her incision, my son and I noticed FLEAS jumping around her incision!! I called the Vet Clinic and spoke with a woman named Julie. I told her what had happened and she said I should have been more responsible by using a preventative measure because of all the low income animals that have been in and out of the clinic. She also proceeded to tell me that it's a risk for taking my dog to pet stores and my vet (who I have NEVER had trouble with and gotten fleas from!) I make it a point to NEVER to keep my dog safe as possible but I heard great reviews about the Noah Shelter so I didn't think this would be a problem for a CLINIC! I kept trying to explain that I was greatly concerned because I have another dog and I have a little one at home, I do not want my family to go thru a flea infestation episode!! I had no idea that this clinic was okay with allowing animals with fleas, without active monitoring!! Julie first offered me discounted flea treatment, but she had no remorse and brushed this concern like it was a common occurrence! I was very upset that my concerns weren't acknowledged or it was a casual concern, and that's where Julie asked if I wanted a free flea treatment -- but said "you are taking advantage of our shelter by asking for it for free." I hung up on Julie because she kept trying to talk over me and continually blame me for not knowing that there was a risk of getting fleas at this "clinic." I NEVER asked for a free flea treatment, I wanted acknowledgement, I wanted remorse, and I didn't want her placing the blame ON ME for bringing my dog to the CLINIC and getting fleas. That's the kind of treatment I received and I refuse to go back this "clinic" but I will share this to as many people as possible so they will know to NEVER to bring their animals here, ever!!! read more

[First Visit *and last visit] Pros: Friendly staff, fairly organized rooms based on age, thorough with record keeping, accept multiple payment types Cons: failure to minimize the risk of infectious diseases (including mites ringworm, shelter colds), failure to educate adoptees on risks associated with a pet. TLDR; We will not be suggesting to friends or family that they visit NOAH because their shelter infected our house and our housecat with ringworm, all because we adopted a neglected cat. Consider our experience as a cautionary story, should you proceed with NOAH or other shelters. History. Last October, we made the drive to NOAH after a referral from a family member. Upon arriving we approached the front desk and were asked to fill out a form and shortly after were instructed on the process for adoption review, starting with the juveniles (e.g. kittens) before proceeding to the adult area. After reviewing numerous kittens we made our way into the adult holding area. From there we saw multiple cats with their information posted on a bulletin board. What was remarkable was how friendly each cat was. After 30 - 45 minutes we asked someone to assist us with interacting with one of the older cats that were caged. It didn't take long for us to make the decision and we proceeded with getting the paperwork and medical history. Upon reviewing the information there were concerns about a shelter cold, which had been treated multiple times. But overall we found no reason not to proceed. A few weeks into our newly adopted cat's quarantine, we visited the vet and learned they might have several shelter diseases, including herpes, as well as a shelter cold. After an inspection, the vet cleared our newly-adopted cat for engagement with other cats. Taking the advice of the shelter we continued the quarantine of our cat before allowing them to roam further. Soon enough, our new cat was eager to explore their surroundings and before long was engaging with our older cat, through a pet barrier. Within a week the two were bonding and grooming one another. Unfortunately, a couple weeks after allowing them to roam we noticed a sore on our older cats forehead. Taking him in the vet used a woodlight test and confirmed the visual presence of ringworm or mites. two weeks later the lab confirmed the hair and culture positive for ringworm. It should be noted that our cat has never traveled outside of the house beyond a visit to the vet. As of early 2019, we are waiting for a confirmed second negative fungal culture result. We have also not taken the 'easy route' by returning our adoption as a way to ease our pain. Animals need homes and it was human neglect which allowed ringworm to enter our home. Let me be clear on something, animal shelters are a valuable asset in minimizing the senseless euthanizing of neglected or abused animals. But the stress associated with treating our house for ringworm has taken its toll on us financially, mentally, and matrimonially. During this period we have learned much about how to minimize the spread of ringworm both in foster environments and shelters. In speaking with NOAH's operation manager I was informed they isolate confirmed carriers of ringworm as well as those who come into contact with the carrier. The current procedure for treatment is isolation, sterilization of the common area where the cats are stored, followed by a lime and sulfur bath treatment. Afterward, a hair and skin sample is sent to a lab and after a confirmed negative result are returned to the general population. In speaking with the operations manager I was reminded that our cat may have come into contact with ringworm. But as we have never dealt with or endured the pain of treating ringworm, this was as urgent a warning as telling someone our cat might have a cold. In retrospect, the shelter should've been 100% (or 99.9%) sure before they allowed us to bring them home. We are no longer consider NOAH as a reliable shelter because they have demonstrated their existing protocols for preventing infectious diseases are not enough to avoid countless $1000's in medical and cleaning bills from occurring. I adopted 2 bonded kittens in March 2022. I Adopted the 2 kittens, aged 5 and 6 months. When I adopted them, I did so with understanding that if I can no longer take care of th, for whatever reason, I had to, by contract, return them to Noah. I did so today, July 14, 2022 do to their on-going aggressive and destructive behavior. No time I n my life have I been so shit-shamed. Shame on Noah center. I abided by my contract with them when i could have had given these cats more options. And, they charged me $200 to return the cats, more than I paid to adopt the bonded pair. I gave 4 months effort to these cats and did my best, definitely needed more than what I could give. Noah center, you are abs not "non-profit". You took nearly $400 from me when the last 4 months, I have been solely and independently responsible for every aspect of their lives. Again, shame on you, not me read more

Love what they do here, however our experience in attempting to find a second dog to join our family was quite frustrating. We found two dogs we were interested in as we had been there earlier that day spending some time with them outside their pens. We went back later in the day to spend some more time with them and finalized the two we wanted to meet. We went and signed up on the list up front. It took nearly 25 minutes before someone even came to tell us about the first dog, and then we were able to meet him in his pen. We were in there for 10-15 minutes and were checked on toward the end. We knew that we wouldn't be a good fit for that dog, so we went to greet the other dog we were interested in. We felt it could be a good fit so decided we wanted to pursue further. It took quite some time for his leash to be obtained and we were then told to take him down on the trail. That would have been extra fine and dandy had it been a nice day, but it'd been raining for weeks and 85% of the trail was pure mud or standing water. It would have been nice to have either A) been forewarned about the trail so we could have gone home for proper footwear first or B) been given the option to walk him in one of the two grassy off leash areas where no other dogs were at the time. Well, after our walk we wanted to have him meet our current fur boy since we were happy with him and he seemed to be good with us. Long story short, the pups met and we were outside for a bit while they explored their surroundings. The worker mentioned she wanted to get a harness for the dog we were interested in because of how badly he was pulling, which we were totally fine with. She ended up being gone with the dog for about 20-30 minutes. It was SO cold out, and the wind was nipping like crazy. We did not anticipate having to spend over TWO HOURS doing this entire process just to meet and greet two different dogs. They seemed rather unorganized, and we were a bit disappointed. Personally, I'd rather make the extra trip to Whatcom Humane Society where we got our other pup. They at least have things organized, are quick to assist you, still take ample measures to ensure good fits for their animals, AND they have a lot more affordable adoption fees for the average Joe wanting a new best friend. read more

It must be a requirement to be grumpy and rude to work here!! Went fully prepared to come home with a new addition to our family. We totally understood they were busy but that gives them no reason to be condescending and downright rude when we asked to see a puppy. Once we saw the first puppy, they were quick to get us in with the second one. Once we decided on which puppy to take home, the paperwork was started. At that time it was disclosed the puppy was a Pit mix. No where was that noted and at no time were we informed about this, as soon as we questioned it, the attitude was in full force with Rose. She spoke down to us as if we were stupid for not seeing that it was a pit mix by looking at the puppy. This puppy did not look like a Pit at all!! When we started questioning her further and asked to see the paperwork, she threw he hands up pushed back from the desk.....Seriously?!? We didn't come for the attitude, we came to make an addition to our family and we were simply questioning something that is not disclosed on info sheet on the dogs door. We decided to continue with the adoption process even though we felt there was no transparency regarding this and despite Roses' condescending attitude. Needless to say, we did not go home with the puppy. When it came time for the dog to meet ours that was happily waiting in the car, Rose made a sh$t show of it and has no clue of how to do an introduction. We will NEVER go back to this place, NEVER recommend it and NEVER make a donation here again. read more

My husband had come in looking at an older cat. After finding out he wouldnt be a good match for us. We decided to look at the other cats. My husband wanting a kitten, tried to talk me out of getting an adult. We finally compromise, by agreeing to get an animal that was no less then a year old. And that is when our new cat moomoo chose my husband. Apon agreement, we had a meet and great the same day with our cat and dog. While buying moomoo we had gotten knowledge of her past, the last shelter she was at. Along with medical history from noah and the last shelter. The lady who helped us was extremely nice, and caring. I cannot recommend this place enough. I got my 4 month old kitten spayed here and she came back looking just as good as she went. Small incision sight that barely bothers her and not much soreness. Most important part is she was nervous in the car and at the shelter, but she perked right up as soon as she came home! No fleas or any unwanted pests on her! If I get another cat or even a dog I will definitely be going here again! $90 for a spay, microchip, and her first shots is a price no vet clinic around the area can touch. We sent our male cat to get neutered. My daughter named him, Rosie, even though he was a boy. I SPECIFICALLY SAID "he is a BOY". He came back neutered and his paperwork had a big hand written note saying, "I'm a boy!" Well, a couple of days layer , I picked him up to hold him and I felt something on his belly. It was SUTURES!!! THEY HAD TRIED TO SPAY HIM LIKE A FEMALE!!!!!!!!!! THEY EVEN TATTOOD THE INCISION!! They NEVER mentioned ANYTHING about this HUGE mistake on his record or in person! NOAH has been a great place to work with. In January, my boyfriend and I adopted 2 kittens. We loved them! NOAH made the process super easy (though we did wait for about an hour, which is not a huge deal). We adopted them both from colony 2, and took them home. They are the best! Unfortunately - one of our kittens developed FIP and passed rather quickly. We emailed NOAH and told them our situation - and they were very helpful. We are wanting to adopt another kitten pretty so, not only to fill the void but also give companion to our other kitten who lost his sister (he is not sad, but bored). My only negative is I did email the adoption center about 2 kittens and have yet to hear anything back. NOAH is over an hour away for us and I would love to have been provided some information/photos before we drive all the way up there. Didn't find the dog that was right for me, but could not be happier with the experience. The staff was lovely and really cared about their dogs. The place was clean and even had a nature trail as well as two enclosed yards. read more
