I've been here multiple times over the years, but a recent visit had given me reason to not recommend it despite every other experience being pretty good. The food is absolutely fantastic, the coffee and drinks are perfect. The hostess was fantastic and very friendly! That's not where my issue lies. I was aware of a wait for a table and food (the original wait for a table wasn't bad at all), but what I was not aware of was how other tables who had been seated after I had been waiting for awhile would be served more quickly. I was not asked, and there was a distinct difference in attitude and demeanor with the server compared to other tables. Be prepared to sit and talk though as it took a while to get a table on a Saturday morning and about 45 minutes to get the food after you ordered. For breakfast, we have ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes several times. They are so good, especially with the whipped cream that comes with them and the real maple syrup that we order as a side. The portions are huge; thus, we normally make a single order and share. For supper, we have had the meatloaf dinner and the chicken pot pie. Again, the portions allow for multiple meals from a single order. The meatloaf is among the best we have ever had, and the chicken pot pie is exceptional, especially because of the crust and the large chunks of chicken and vegetables. Staff is awesome! My family is vegan, so I took my 5 yr old here for her birthday. I baked her a cupcake and after we ate at the Nucleus, we broke it out. 1st off, I love the fact they state tipping is not required bc they pay their staff a "living wage." I have no problem paying more AND leaving a tip to support this type of business. 2nd the porpotions of food for every single order is pretty decent. I wish that I have tried their crêpe, but I was craving for some smoked salmon. So I had the Omega Scrambler dish. The avocado and smoked salmon mixed with scrambled eggs and cheeses matched perfectly to score high on the protein side. Not only do I have a special spot in my heart for Eau Claire, but an even bigger spot for The Nucleus on Water Street. It was particularly busy, as we went Saturday morning, but that is to be expected as it is amazing. Despite the wait, the staff was very friendly and got us a table faster than expected. In addition, they were completely transparent about the table waiting times and the food waiting times, which I very much appreciated. Okay ONTO THE FOOD. You truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They have the classic omelettes and French toast options, but they always have fun twists on them. This time, I got a bagel sandwich with eggs cheese and bacon, so simple yet so good. On the side I got the garlic parmesan has browns (everyone needs to try them-they are to die for) and I was the happiest girl alive. I consumed all of this in under 10 minutes and I don't remember being that satisfied in a long time. If anyone is in the area, they have no choice but to go here for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. It was alright!! We came in with a group of 5 and we were able to get seating right away. One of us had a chai latte, it was kinda mid. My miel latte was good though! The food was just decent. Not worth the price on my opinion. I feel like some of the stuff you can just get at a family restaurant and it would taste the same. I am never disappointed when I come to Nucleus. The lemon ricotta hotcakes are marvelously delicious. I was able to order just one rather than three to five, which was just perfect. I also had the pepper bacon omelette with hash browns. After eating the hot cake I was only able to eat a bite or two. The leftovers will be perfect for dinner. The omelette was also yummy. I really need to come to Eau Claire more often. There are so many restaurants where you can get some great food for a cheap price, and the Nucleus sits atop the list of places in Eau Claire where you get the most bang for your buck. We came during a very busy time (Saturday brunch around 10). We had about at 15 minutes wait, but since the Nucleus has an adjoining coffee shop (Racy D'lenes Coffee Lounge) that serves as a waiting area, it felt like no time at all that we were at our table. It was also communicated multiple times that the wait for food was over 30 minutes. This was a great move on Nucleus's part and set the expectation that we may have to wait a while. But man...was the wait worth it! I ended up getting the breakfast sandwich with a side of the parmesan garlic hash browns, while another person in our group got the stuffed french toast. This food was just SO tasty. The parmesan garlic hash browns, in particular, were so flavorful, and are some of the best hash browns I've had in my life! Addionally, having quality espresso from the Racy D'lenes Coffee Lounge was the cherry to a great brunch! Highly recommend coming here for weekend brunch!
