    Ham & Cheese & Pickles

Great find just off the interstate! Stylish, clean building - bright & modern seating area - fresh food & drinks. They did have some Gluten Free options though the staff didn't seem super knowledgeable about gluten, I'm sure they would have helped us investigate if asked. They were very friendly :) I do wish there had been some more classic kid-centric options. That ham & cheese sandwich was fantastic, but it was a bit too "fancy" for our picky eaters who shy away from "green stuff" - They loved the bread though ;) The salads were so fresh and flavorful, and we got some tasty Oat Milk Lattes to go. We'll definitely be back! Grateful for any place that has fresh food, good coffee, and can feed us in a small timeframe while we're passing through town.

Menu offered very few options for a specific food allergy. Didn't meet our expectations based on previous reviews.

I had a breve and a pastry to go. The coffee was great and the pastry was fresh. The server was pleasant and prompt.

Stopped on the way up north, and got the Mazza sampling board which was delicious.

Luckily we beat the crowd and I was able to snag the last piece of quiche. Lots of groups gather here. I got a coffee that I think was local. There were 3 servers ours was younger and newer, Alyssa. I had to ask someone else for utensils before we got the food. We split some great hash browns. Basil got A farewell to sausages omelet and juice. We both enjoyed a local coffee. This was a great start to our trip out East to the Chicago burbs. I think it will be our stop from now on and should be yours as well.

Review Visit: November 14th, 2024…read more Maybe not THAT grand... The short trip to Eau Claire was coming to a close and I needed some food before I hit the road home. Around the corner from where Tim lives is a cafe he's been to a few times. We took the short stroll there to get some breakfast and coffee in us. We popped in after the major breakfast crowd and before the lunch crowd made the small cafe packed. We took a seat towards the front by the window so we could get some natural light to go with our meal. Our waitress was a hoot. She was professional but really chatty and we all quickly got on the topic of horror movies, spooky things, and the love for reading. I got the house coffee with a biscotti stick to go with it. Tim got a latte thing. The waitress forgot my biscotti but quickly brought it over when I asked her about it. As for our meal, I ordered just the french toast and Tim got a full course meal. I wanted to eat somewhat light as I had the long drive but... when I say I got french toast... it was the most basic two slices of french toast I've ever had. It ended up tasting decent but for $8.49, it just felt like it needed to some with a side of protein or eggs or something. Tim said his The Grand Gatsby and Bread Pudding was good, even if he doesn't care for Mango, which is what his Bread Pudding flavor was. The biscotti was really good, even better dipped in the coffee. The coffee itself was your typical drip coffee that you'd find across the country. Not great but not bad. It served it purpose. While it was a bit of a letdown that my last meal before heading home was less than stellar but the memories made at the cafe (and the whole trip) are one you can't put a rating on. With that in mind, if we visit here again in 2025, I will definitely get a more substantial meal than two meager slices of french toast.

For entrees we had the bacon burrito jalapeño and classic steak fajitas. The burrito had a nice kick to it and the Mexican sausage added a real depth of flavor. The steak for the fajitas was cooked perfectly (too many places lately overcook theirs and it's like gnawing on shoe leather) and the dish was flavorful, from the tantalizing meat & veg on the sizzling platter to the rice and beans. The staff checked in regularly to offer refills and see how we were liking our meals. We can't wait to stop in the next time we're in town!!

Complimentary chips and salsa almost beat us to the table. The salsa was great! A lot of cilantro which I love. (Fair warning to those that don't!) I was super excited to see they had great breakfast options available until 3pm. If I see huevos con chorizo on a menu, that's what I'm getting. It was fantastic here! Served with rice and beans which is certainly typical for most Mexican restaurants. The beans and rice at most places usually just seems to be plate filler. At Rancho Grande, I thought the beans and rice actually added to the dish. The rice was actually still fluffy and had good flavor instead of being dried out like some places. My husband had a chicken chimichanga that he really liked. We had to have margaritas too, of course. Lime on the rocks with salt and the perfect lime slice. We both thought the margs were great. What could be better than a margarita and huevos con chorizo for a quick lunch stop? How about the service and attention from the staff?! They did excellent. We had 4 different people tag teaming the service and all were super friendly and attentive. There was always at least one server either making the rounds or at least overseeing the dining area to observe and identify anyone that may have needed something. I wish we lived closer! This would be a regular spot for us, for sure! If we're back in the area, we'll stop in again. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out! Bonus info if any of this interests you: gambling machines with ATM payout, yard of margarita on tap, early open for breakfast.
